JFJ Easy Pro: The $135 Disc Repair System - Unboxing & Review!

- The JFJ Easy Pro is a disc resurfacing machine which allows you to properly repair CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs properly by removing scratches from the bottom of the disc. None of those at-home remedies like using Brasso or buying something cheap such as a Disc Doctor/Skip Doctor are methods I have ever recommended. Cleaning discs can help to get rid of smudges and such, but actually removing scratches can only properly be done using a resurfacing machine such as this!
I've used a few resurfacing machines and have repaired/restored thousands of discs over my lifetime thanks to working at a game shop for a few years. The JFJ Easy Pro is a much more affordable setup than what many local game shops or rental shops might use, but how effective is it? And more importantly: is it worth the money? I've had one for a year now and done hundreds of discs. It takes some getting used to but after a while it gets really easy and they come out perfect. The trick is don't use too much solution.
Any problems with swirls? I get them on my JFJ Easy Pro. I usually don’t do the black ps1 discs because of the amount of swirls.
@@whiteformula98 I know im a year too late, but i've heard that if you are resurfacing gamecube games or mini dvds on the same pads that you use for normal size discs, it will have uneven wear on the pad and it will leave a mark on normal size discs.
Hi there. My machine is not polishing the outside ring of discs so is leaving big circles around disc, and unevenly wearing down my pads.

I just noticed something. You didn't show any actual video of the resurfacer running. Is it too loud or something? Does it sound like a chainsaw trying to cut a battleship? I'd love to see a view of it running through the top clear plexiglass.
Good idea on using the Meguiar's buffing compound and polish. I've used stuff like that on my cars headlights and it works like a charm.
Nowhere near as loud as that, but all resurfacers will make a decent amount of noise. There's no way to quietly run this 🤣

You don't have to change the pad going from the compound to the polish???
Just ordered one of these. Everyone mentions the buff marks but these arent even bad compared to the old crank ones. Cant wait for it to get here!
Oh those crank ones are AWFUL, we had to fix so many of those discs.

I do Meguires M105 and M205. I used to do detailing and very familiar with taking out scratches.
I want to buy one. Hell, when I mentioned to my uncle that there's no place to resurface discs in Bulgaria, he gave me the money to get a resurfacer. Only issue, when you add shipping and customs, it'll cost 2.5x to get the machine.
I take care of my stuff. I have original Atari 2600 games so yes my stuff does not sit out. All games go back in case. Any games that need resurfaced are ones that I bought used (the previous owned let the disc sit in the rain). I have used JFJ machine, and resurfaced over 100 games. Mr. Mario stated use discs you do not care about. JFJ easy pro has learning curve. But I had a Madden 2003 that did not work scratched very visibly, would not be recognized by PS2 or my launch PS3. Used JFJ easy pro sanded with soft sandpaper 10 seconds (if you need more just keep sanding small amount of time do not sand for two minutes because disc is really scratched). Buffed for two minutes then polished for one. Disc looked new I could not have been more impressed. This machine does exactly what it states. If you need to do GameCube discs you need to get a different plate that JFJ Easy Pro sells due to the smaller size of the disc.
Hey Mr Mario , i just wanted to give you a little tip maybe it'll make you feel less bad about styrofoam , use a bucket with paint solvent , it'll desolve the Styrofoam and it'll evaporate eventually ... I know it's not the perfect solution but if you close the bucket , it won't go anywhere and you can reuse the solvent 😊
I've learnt this when the house we lived in was very humid , so , to isolate the walls a bit better we mixed styrofoam with the solvent , waited for it to dissolve and then mixed the paint ... It worked but yeah, eventually humidity came back , but took longer to reappear... Just a tiny tip in case you didn't know . Not trying to be a teacher but you share you knowledge with us , so i do the same !!

actually, makes sense the number 2 being the first one to use. It's the same logic as polishing a car, the number two has the bigger cutting action than the number one.
Thinking of buying the JFJ EASY PRO that is now $240 in most places or the ECO PRO 2 that cost $1900. So far the ECO PRO 2 is way better but is super expensive.

Any problems with swirls? I get them on my JFJ Easy Pro. I usually don’t do the black ps1 discs because of the amount of swirls. Will the meguairs help get rid of swirls?

I can get my discs near perfect on the first try each and every time with NO SCRATCHES, I've restored hundreds of DVD's using this exact machine, you gotta use meguiar's ultimate polish, all other brands live scratches at the end, also before cleaning CD's you have to run your foam pad under warm waters out of the tap, as warm as possible I usually do, cuhz it softens the pad, then when applying the polishing compound you want to put a small pea sized dot, and basically dot it all around the buffing pad, make sure every piece of the buffing pad is covered with some polish, or the "buffing" scratches will always be there, and before polishing you wanna open and close the lid with the cd on the machine to make sure you spread the polish ahead of time, and I get PERFECT SCRATCHLESS DVD"s eacha nd every time, it's taken me a lot of trial and error to get this method down perfectly, it is very annoying when I'm restoring 100 DVD's and I have to go and re surface them twice as the first time left a swirl scratch on it, so this method has helped me tremendously.
Ik this is ancient. But meguiars plastic x is a great finisher. It's like all the other compounds but designed for plastic.

For those wondering about what the JFJ Easy Pro sounds like when it's running. It's really not that loud at all. Sounds more like a sump pump or a desk fan on medium speed. Lol. Best way to describe it is "It's quieter than a Sega Dreamcast GD Rom Drive"

I had some difficulties in the beginning, but after really learning how to use the machine, I was able to fix those discs I messed up.

Does this leave obvious signs of resurfacing like the Lame Doctor does or does it leave a fairly smooth finish like a full size bench buffer? I could NOT really tell from the video .
It will leave swirls unless you buff it just right. PS1 discs show it the most.

@@MrMario2011 I have looked on amazon that the machine will possibly work 250 times, But because of the fact that there are 2 different chemicals for buffing the discs I believe its 125 discs around possible to fix.
@@MrMario2011 Some techniques that I have tried are rubbing "Non adhesive toothpaste" to the disc and waiting for it to dry then rinsing it off then gently wiping it down away from the disc's center, *But this technique has not worked so far for me but as I have heard I may need to use fluoride toothpaste for this technique to work* , Another technique is to apply classic "white stick deodorant" to the disc then wiping away again from the center, this has worked for me so far and I recommend this technique, the last technique I tried finally is to use a banana and wipe it on the disc then dry it off with a slightly damp rag, *This has worked plenty of times* What I have learned with applying a banana to the discs scratches was that the bananas sugars easily dry up on the scratches and fill the gaps quite well for me at least and what I recommend is that you apply a damp rag as I have told you, That it is all I know so far your vids are great keep up the good work.

If you have to resurface a disc a few times through that device, it's definitely not a good device.
Seems like a silly way to dismiss it, especially since I've had to resurface discs multiple times on much nicer machines.
@@MrMario2011 While you're right about that; damage does widely differ,especially with some discs being 2 decades old. A lot of multiple buffs from my experience, on "dead" discs with most machines is just going to grind away that data.
Not really being "silly", a lot of your vids are pretty insightful; just can't agree with this one.
You're free to disagree, but your rationale on that is incorrect. The urban legend of a disc being resurfaced too many times to the point of it being unreadable is absolutely untrue if done properly. The point of it being damaged through too many resurfacings would have to be sometime unrealistic, like running the disc through thousands of times.
The only damage you can do is through normal usage is improper usage of any of these machines. Extreme heat to the point of warping, or using a buffer to your disc like one you'd find in a shop class, would definitely do damage.
I'm not sure of your experience, but I've repaired thousands of discs on different machines. I'm not at all worries about multiple resurfacings. I'm also unsure how you're saying you'll grind away data when data isn't on the bottom of the disc? Unless you're causing label damage or buffing the label out instead of the bottom side of the disc, multiple and proper resurfacings of the bottom layer of a disc aren't going to grind away data.

I was actually debating over buying a jfj or a venmill 3500. There is one locally that’s being sold second hand. Apparently these went for $1700usd new $1200 refurbished. Not liquid or polish based machine; it uses a buff wheel and an anti static solution. May actually go for the commercial grade one as I buy and resell heaps of gaming things !

Brilliant video MrMario as always, I've been wanting to get a decent solution for game disc repair for ages (200+ discs to do) and may well get one of these, here in the UK you can get the unit in 220 Volt fairly cheap via ebay but not Amazon (stupid money) plus uk sellers for extra support so not too bad.
Tip for a basic clean, small spray bottle with 95% de-ionised water and 5% rubbing alchahol and a miro fibre cloth, leave it on a minute for a really grubby disc, if it's still bad it needs a re-surface.
Yep, that's probably what most cleaning solutions out there are haha. I've never used those for scratched up discs before fixing them as it wouldn't do too terribly much. A lot of people don't recognize the difference in cleaning a disc vs. fixing a disc.
Carefully following their instructions (and specifically for 'black surface PS1 games' and it has made my discs actually worse. Circular swirls -- scratches really -- that don't come out and my disc reads worse than it did before.
You can easily throw out their instructions...
I use a different compound, and when I rarely sand them, I only do so for three seconds.
Also, always spray the disc and the pad with water before using, even though they say it's not necessary.
How about BlueRay discs like PS4 discs? Does it work on them?

It works on all discs.
Blu Ray discs you can't sand, only buff. If you sand them you risk rendering them into a coaster.
Why are we scratching blue rays?
@@MrMario2011 actually you can't use this in blu-rays. I've had this about 5 years now and it's not recommended to use this for blu-ray because they are made differently that CDs and dvds. You can clean then and it will do minimal repair but it try to use it multiple times to remove a lot of scratches it will ruin your blur-ray.
If I were to get this I would only use it with ps1, ps2, OG xbox, and 360 games. I wouldn't use it with ps3, ps4 and xbox one games.
Blu-ray is fine as long as you don't sand them.
I’ve used jfj for about 5 years. My machine has gone through thousands of games. I’ve messed up plenty in the learning process. Recently I bought a new one and being a combo special I got the eyecon new machine. The eyecon is perfect, no changing pads often only one and a small amount of solution. Disclaimer for newbies GameCube and ps1 Discs are complicated and I’ve got my tricks just like mrmario. Using car polishers and secret sauces lol. Disclaimer as well I’m sure all top resellers and local shops have it as protocol to buff before selling as presentation of item is key.

There was a Family Video near me that just a few months ago shut down and got turned into a grocery store I used to bring my disks to get resurfaced they had a monster of a unit that could be loaded with 100 disks and it would work through them all in a few minutes automatically and they always did it for me for free so this thing seems like a pretty cool option.

We tried using the machine, and the disk is like stuck in the machine. The black thing will not unloosen. It is like tight.
Occasionally that happens, just take something like a set of pliers to turn the nut to the left.

Got one had it years works great if you know what your doing "Does Not Resurface BD" you can only lightly buff them.

Sure, plenty out there! Just be prepared to spend thousands of dollars as opposed to hundreds.

I may get this. I know you didn’t recommend it if I have under 50 games. But I went out of my way 30-45 mins out looking for any place to offer disc repair and none offer it. This seems to be my only option
I hate the machines' compounds as they tend to leave marks on the discs, and I use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound.
I get much better results using that.
I also never use the sandpaper at the recommended times, as it's too much. 2 rounds of 3 seconds it more than enough.
And I always spray some water on both disc and buffing pad before polishing, as well as on the disc before sanding it.
Gives WAY better results. Still saving up for an Eco Pro 2 or Hybrid 2.0 though.
I bought one recently not sure what's siffrent but sand paper and pads so cuddle cut it could take enough supplys that the claim will do up to 300 disc to repair 50 disc this machine will not easily repair disc with deep scratches and if you buy supply that you can make work with the machine then they will void your warrenty and be careful the machine can damage disc so that they non repaible it did two disc I ran through it one I only polished
Will the 110V Version will work in germany(220V) is something like this mentioned at the Power Supply?
Since I'm in the North American territory I haven't run into that, although if you wanted to run this you could do so with a step-up/step-down converter. The converter would connect to your 220V outlet and allow you to safely plug in 110V hardware.

mine came with a metal disc to lay the cds on instead of the plexiglass,why the change and would this not braise the discs?
Have you guys ever heard of a disc resurfacer making games worse? I had a retro game store fix two games and I regret it since both games barely work anymore. One of them is a gamecube game and it resets the console now which I've never seen before. Idk what they did wrong but I'd like to know what could've happened to cause it
Yep. A bad resurfacer, or person working poorly with one, can cause it.

I have wanted an affordable disc resurfacer since I first started buying cds in the 1990s. I was so dissatisfied with the disk doctor that I was so sure I needed, and had to save up for as a kid. I am finally willing to pull the trigger on one of these! I have tons of disc based media I have collected over my lifetime, and now I can shop in the cheap scratched section of my local swap shop. Flea markets near me would sale disc that were obviously repaired from the swap shop because they still retained the permanent marker letters “VS” which stood for very scratched. You can remove permanent marker on disc using dry erase markers coloring over it then using a tissue to wipe it off. You can use alcohol too, but it can destroy the original paint on the disc also. It is best to be careful. I really appreciate you dropping the tip to use that rubbing then polishing compound! I have some aluminum wheel polish I was thinking of using as some people use it to buff their foggy headlights. There is also a meguiar’s plastx polish that looks interesting. I really plan on enjoying messing around with the resurfacer when it comes in, and its because of your video. THANKS A BUNCH!
Totally worth it for someone like yourself! I'd really only recommend going bigger if you're a huge reseller or own a storefront, such as a used video game shop.
Hey mymario, great video. I have been eyeing one of these for a while but I am torn when I got to there website they have the combo pack with the eyecon mini machine and this one you reviewed. Do you know anything about that machine? Their website isn't the great in terms of trying to figure it out. Just wondering if I should pay the extra $$$ and get both machines. I have a fairly large movie collection and have started picking up a large selection used movies that need to be cleaned. I'm not going to lie when I saw the recommendation for the car polish/compound I laughed so hard. I use that stuff for my car.

Its worth getting one, I had a copy of Stubbs The Zombie for the original XBox its worth a small fortune to the right collector the only problem was the game was scratched to hell. it wouldn't even play when I put it in the drive, 2 rounds with this device the game not only looked brand new but played perfectly, managed to sell it for £68 on eBay

My local retro store offers this service and uses the same machine. They charge $2.
Unfortunately due to improper use, they leave visible swirl marks. More than your PS1 game shown. I had to hand polish them using Meguiar's Plastix polish used for headlamp plastic. Looks visibly better.
I think the ELM resurfacing machine is the one you are mentioning. Seen in other videos that they use a mixture of distilled water and a buffing solution. They leave the discs like new.
A retro store an hour from me, uses this on all their used games. It's worth the drive. Reasonable prices too.
Those much nicer resurfacing machines are amazing with that solution. Used some similar ones, although not as nice as the ELM machines, back when I worked at some game shops. They were more expensive and required more upkeep, but if you're pushing major volume like a game shop would? Totally worth it.
