Thomas Cowell I never like the design of the 911, though! It looks too much like a damn toad, in my opinion. But, I would still buy it, because of its awesome driving dynamics and engineering.
It's still so beautiful to look at. That design has aged so well. And those performance numbers are still damn good, even all these years later in 2018.
Compare that to the 2018 911Turbo S, 0-60 in 2.5 sec with PDK....and by the way, the contrived impression that Germans are somber over-serious folks is part of the past war(s) western culture anti-German legacy. I grew up with German parents, and though they could be very stoic, they were mostly very fun loving and emotional.
I drove a modified Turbo S that was a claimed 700 horsepower. Did a 2nd gear roll and when it hit boost all 4 tires broke loose. Scared the crap out of me because I didn't expect that to happen!
one of the fastest cars on the road back then by a long shot! the viper was high 12's and the vette lucky to hit in the high 13s. even the diablo couldn't beat this in the 1/4 mile
I've driven every generation Turbo since the 930 & I have owned several 911 and turbos. They continually get better, but the 996 Turbo is the best out of all of them as a true driver's car.
@@samlauer8855 996 was at its best in C4S trim. The suspension and cornering just felt best in that version. The Turbo had alot more understeer for some reason, the GT3 was twitchy, and the narrow body cars were just not dialed in
I would say I bet you can get these for a decent price now a days but hot damn they are still 100k or more in great shape, talk about a killer resale value.
993 base Carrera with low miles is now 100K. Turbos are between 200-300K. I understand you wrote this 6 years ago but that's how it goes unfortunately.
I've owned a 1996 #993 Iris Blue C2 since I bought it off my doc in 2005. The thing has been bulletproof. G50 6 speed manual is sweet. Yup, I do my own oil/filter changes!
One of the best 911s of all time. If this is where Porsche was in the 1990s. Imagine how much further ahead of the others 25 years later. That’s why the current Turbo is faster and more refined than other supercars.
Imo, this is the most beautiful version of the sexiest car ever built. Just enough computer technology to make it safe and still an old school driving dynamic. Having driven one, I'm in lust and it's been a poster on my wall for years. I don't care if I ever get a road worthy one, I'm gonna buy one before I leave this Earth, Lawn ornament or not.
It's hard to think of looking at that 911T from '96, and how Porsche can continue to extract better power, handling and braking from that car all these years later, but they continue to do so. I will say the leap was bigger from a '76 911 to a '96 vs '96 to today.
I just watched the 1994 911 Turbo 3.6 review and am surprised that the 1996 911 Turbo was slightly slower in Motorweek’s testing. The 1994 Turbo 3.6 did the same 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat but was quicker through the 1/4 mile at 12.2 @ 117 mph versus the 1996 Turbo at 12.4 @ 114 mph through the 1/4 mile. I would expect the AWD and extra horsepower to get it to 60 mph and through the 1/4 mile a little quicker.
Damn we taking about engineering 80s,90s how german, japan, and america how powerful and quick they are Now 2020 its all about interior electronic tech!!!
Adjusting for inflation, $99K in ‘96 would be $160K in 2018, or the price equivalent of a 991 Turbo which accelerates to 60 in 2.9 seconds. If you want something that can only accelerate in around four seconds, that would be the 991 Carrera S for $105K.
It’s crazy that the performance numbers and the exterior design still hold so well in 2018. The car is timeless.
Thomas Cowell
I never like the design of the 911, though! It looks too much like a damn toad, in my opinion. But, I would still buy it, because of its awesome driving dynamics and engineering.
400 horsepower never goes out of style.
For sure.
@@houseofno ford focus has 400hp
0-60 in under 4 seconds is still amazing!
Those performance numbers are pretty stout for 1996... impressive even by today's standards.
and it was air cooled
Impressive yes, but not for Porsche now. Lol today they're just insane. I'll til 2028 for these new ones to age and drop to affordable lol
And then the next year came the C5(MSRP $38k). With some bolt on mods the C5 smokes that 911 Turbo.
Also one of the cars that was capable of stoping from 60-0 within 100 feet. I love this car.😍
Well, it's Porsche so...
It's still so beautiful to look at. That design has aged so well. And those performance numbers are still damn good, even all these years later in 2018.
Those numbers are still impressive today. It was putting up numbers that a 2019 Mustang GT350 puts up with over a 100 less horsepower.
One of my favorite cars.
The performance and appearance still hold up.
I'd rather have this than a new one.
It’s more expensive
@@samlauer8855 Yup.
You are wise.
4 seconds flat, that is pretty darn quick
thats fast for 2018
I remember flicking through the pages of an issue of Car & Driver, where they compared this 993 Turbo against the 959... They were pretty even.
Erik Hertzer Older models are more fun and don't need all that assistance of the new ones
I drove a modified Turbo S that was a claimed 700 horsepower. Did a 2nd gear roll and when it hit boost all 4 tires broke loose. Scared the crap out of me because I didn't expect that to happen!

Arena Red 993 Turbo is a true classic
One of the very best modern - almost classic - sports cars ever made, and in my opinion the best-looking 911 Turbo ever.
IMO, the most beautiful Porsche ever built.
Captain Picard’s voice never ceases to amaze
Thumbs for Sir Pat Stew!
This car is a beast, even by today's Supercar standards.
that car is easily on my top 5 list
The best era 911. Love these so much!
This was the last true 911, Air-cooled with classic lines. Nowadays, new 911s are better cars, but not better 911s.
I've driven every generation Turbo since the 930 & I have owned several 911 and turbos. They continually get better, but the 996 Turbo is the best out of all of them as a true driver's car.
Norm Sallitt ironically a lot of people say that the C4S was a better drivers car than the turbo
@@samlauer8855 996 was at its best in C4S trim. The suspension and cornering just felt best in that version. The Turbo had alot more understeer for some reason, the GT3 was twitchy, and the narrow body cars were just not dialed in
Hands down my favorite 911 generation.
If you want to buy one of these today, be prepared to shell out $200K, they held their value very well
Impressive performance even 20+ years later.
Best looking era imo
was that Patrick Stewart's voice?
The one and only.
I came to comment exactly that!
Captain Picard knows about fast that's why they had him commenting on the 911 in this classic commercial!
But of course
400 HP! 0-60 in only 4 secs.
Damn.
It’s all about that fat torque spread.
@@1PITIFULDUDE that candy red paint too, man she’s a looker.
3:21 anti theft system that might confuse thieves....shows the thieves how to start it 😊
Picard doing the voice over!! AHHHHH!!! AWESOME!!!
96 Turbo goes for over $250K today! crazy. Collectors car.
These Retro videos are great.🎥👍
I would say I bet you can get these for a decent price now a days but hot damn they are still 100k or more in great shape, talk about a killer resale value.
Acc0rd79 I know, $100k buys you a high mileage, rough car nowadays, a pristine low mile example is tough to find for less than $175k or so
that's just proof it's a true classic
993 base Carrera with low miles is now 100K. Turbos are between 200-300K. I understand you wrote this 6 years ago but that's how it goes unfortunately.
My brother in law loves his its only 15,000 miles on it, last year of the air cooled 911turbo.
Best generation of 911 Turbos.
I've owned a 1996 #993 Iris Blue C2 since I bought it off my doc in 2005. The thing has been bulletproof. G50 6 speed manual is sweet. Yup, I do my own oil/filter changes!
Probably the best Porsche ever!! Just brilliant!!
One of my favorite 911’s.
God I love the proportions of this car. Shame the prices for these older Turbo/S have gone through the roof
Best looking Porsche ever.
The 993; my favorite 911 ever!
My fav 911, in the middle of modern and old, not the Turbo but the regular one
The best looking car of all time in my opinion.
If I could only have one Porsche - this would be it.
One of the best 911s of all time. If this is where Porsche was in the 1990s. Imagine how much further ahead of the others 25 years later. That’s why the current Turbo is faster and more refined than other supercars.
Wow hadn’t seen this one. The 993 last of the aircooled 911s. Good luck finding a 993 Turbo for $100k today. Nothing else drives like a 911. 🇩🇪🏁
The braking is insane!
0-60, 4.0 seconds and 12 second 1/4 mile times with 400 hp and 400 lb/ft of torque with under 4 liters.
It's my favourite 911 Turbo right from the start when I first time laid my eyes on this car, apart from my beloved 911 996 Turbo S...
What a freaking ROCKETSHIP!!
Do a retro review of the Porsche 996! Would be so cool to hear the test from back when it was launching
Just think, most 993 Turbos are selling for over original new MSRP after 20+ years. That means, sadly, I'll likely never be able to afford one.
You're in the same boat with a ton of people
This and the NSX from early 90s have to be the 2 icons of the decade relating to resale.
El Porsche 911 Turbo 1996 era mi regalo perfecto cuando me gradué de la universidad, aún lo sigo esperando 😂👍💪🇲🇽
With 60-0 braking in 86 feet means DO NOT tailgate this beast!
This car reminds me of NFS4: High Stakes. Gorgeous car.
One of the best cars of all-time, hands down.
For us left handers, its the left-handed ignition switch that makes our day! 👌
Wait..captain Picard does a Porsche commercial?? How cool...
Solid walk and talk
Timeless!
After the 959. This is the second greatest Porsche ever made.
This car is very rare and sought after today , a clean one with low miles can fetch over 200 thousands dollars .
Favorite car of all time
A true work of art
Please do the 996 911!! I've been commenting this for 2+ years.

12.4/114 is satisfying even today.
still Beautiful Car.

My dream car as a teen.
My favorite Porsche after the 1973 RS Aluminum frame.
993 is one of the all time greats.
If I had the money I'd love to get one of these and have the RWB treatment done on it
This is a beast of a 911
That dude driving looks like Rod Blagojevich lol

This now in lower miles is a $200.000 car. Turbo S is a half million (or more) and 993 GT2 is several millions. Insanity.
Dayum!! Patrick Stewart doing a voiceover for a vintage Porsche 911 Turbo commercial! Make it so! Engage!!
the 993 turbo is the most beautiful 911 ever....

One Bad Ass Porsche!!!!! PERIOD 😎

20th Century Cars Will Outlast "ANY" 21ST Century Cars. Any day. Beautiful Color For 96.
Best 911 ever?
That's $157k in today's debased currency
A much better buy than previous Turbos
Similar performance to today's Corvette Stingray
Gas guzzler tax in 1996? When did the gas guzzler tax start?
Damn we taking about engineering 80s,90s how german, japan, and america how powerful and quick they are

The only modern Porsche that delivers the same driving experience as these awesome classics is the 2018 911 GT3 with a 6-speed manual...
I'm more surprised that a base model auto mustang GT rwd can get to 0-60 in 4.0 for ±$31k
Javier Hernandez in 1996 I don't think so buddy, more like 7 or 8 seconds
you can't compare any gen mustang to any Porsche
The commercial sounded like Patrick Stewart
This car almost looks similar to the black one that was used in the first BAD BOYS movie.
Corvette killer.
Dam... years wanting that car and all the time I see the prices are always going up 🥺

only 4 seconds? 4 seconds is incredibly quick
