I was reading that they are axing the C-HR for the new Toyota Corolla Cross-Over by 2021.... Not sure if it will come with AWD, but It will have the option manual option. I think that is why that the C-HR has no hybrid/awd/manual/sunroof... etc. I am sure that it will have more horsepower/torque. I am just curious tho, when you are doing the 0-60... do you have the car in Eco/ Normal mode or do you have it in Sport mode?
If this had a manual option and the new 2.0L with 169hp, I'd actually consider buying it. I love the funky styling and small size. But as it stands, the Corolla hatchback is a more compelling car. I really hope the rumours are true and they stick the GR Yaris powertrain under the hood.
Why would one want tinted rear windows? Maybe in a hot, sunny climate like AZ or FL but in the north, esp in winter, they greatly reduce both interior light and outward visibility, esp at night.
The problem Toyota made was choosing design over practicality. They need to scrap this vehicle and come up with something new. The competition is far better than this.
These things sell like crazy in other world markets. Toyota just sells them here in NA for the heck of it. (you mean to say there's other markets than just USA???!?!😱😱😱)
A used Toyota RAV4 is better or get the Corolla Hatchback, no? Not the same class but at this price point for a subcompact suv who cares. It is a neat looking vehicle though.
It’s okay that it’s small for single people or couples with no kids ... like me. I like it and don’t need a lot of space. I’m Sofyan’s size too. People can figure out space and size for themselves. He opened the center console but didn’t mention if it was spacious and it’s hard to see because it’s all black & dark. I need to decide between this & a Mazda CX-3. I can’t buy a car because I have back problems that make it hard to get into & out of the Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla. Thanks for the review otherwise Sofyan.
I think the problem with the C-HR is that it was originally designed to be a Scion. The facelift kind of helped but hopefully the second gen makes a departure from looking cheap and making changes to the engine
I’m pretty happy with my 2018. I’m short so I find the seats comfortable, and it rides nice. The infotainment is terrible. That’s the biggest issue. Overall it does 90% of what I want it to do.
Sadly, in North America you don't have thr HR-V Sport 182cv, yes same engine from the civic we've got here in France, 0 to 60 in 7,8s, really a fantastic car (got one).
They CAN be good if they’re well-built and well-tuned. Accelerating uphill with a CVT, for example, is amazing since it’s smooth all the way without ever needing to shift gears. The problem usually occurs when you try to quickly accelerate or decelerate. You feel that so-called “rubberbanding effect” from the CVT having to suddenly change ratios (since it can’t just drop/upshift a gear like regular autos). This combined with poor response to you putting your foot down is what sucks the life out of cars with CVT’s (usually).
Easily the worst car in Toyota’s lineup, just get seltos, or if you don’t mind slowness, get HRV for practically, if you need AWD, get crosstrek or seltos. If want fuel economy, get venue, much cheaper, has the latest safety features and tech. If you like Toyota cars, just get corolla hatch, or corolla sedan.
IAmJustLordFarhan: The Normal Dude things like forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert, etc, go check out Hyundai website. The only thing I think venue is missing is that it doesn’t have leather seats as an option, you get half leather half cloth in denim edition.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 Forward Collison warning with Pedestrian Detection and Auto Braking, Lane Departure Warning with Active Steering Assist, Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control, etc come standard on the C-HR. It's part of the Toyota Safety Sense package. Upper trims do get Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Hence that the Venue doesn't actually compete with this car. The Kona does.
IAmJustLordFarhan: The Normal Dude yeah, just realized venue also missing adaptive cruise control. But venue does have many safety features, I view adaptive cruise control more as a driver convenience feature and not really a safety feature. Venue only missing a few features like the adaptive cruise control. But keep in mind venue cost much less than CHR. If you compare CHR to Kona, then Kona easily wins by having a turbo Powertrain with 201 HP, 0 to 60 in around 6 to 7 seconds.
I like Toyota but this car screams cluster phobic. My Kia Soul has more space and a sunroof and more horsepower than that. I prefer bigger and arm room. All that fake leather plastic rubber stuff will be scratched in one week of ownership depending on the person. I can never see myself drive it.
Thanks for the upload. Well done. The CHR is way too compromised by its styling. The JDM all-wheel drive turbocharged version needs to be imported to the US market. The Kona and CX30 are better buys...
@@theredline In all seriousness though, the C-HR really is a decent vehicle that is even underrated. It does bring in some pizzazz in the otherwise generic Subcompact Crossover segment, from its styling that still also brings in some geniune fun behind the wheel and decent practicality. Honda and Toyota seem to not care about quality as much a they used to. They’re not bad, but they’re just not as good as they used to be in the 1990s. Hyundai and Kia is becoming like the old Honda and Toyota. The sheet metal near the roof of my 2020 civic left dents after only a few times at the car wash.
Does it come in manual transmission? no? will this car be able to be driven for 20 years without major repairs? with that CVT onboard I don't think so.

Eh, Kona and Seltos 1.6T AWD all day, man! Those two, by far, are the only ones that matter in this segment! Though I’m curious what you might think about the Chevy Trailblazer/Buick Encore GX on that front.
I got the kia soul with 1.6l turbo 201hp 195ftlb. Much faster. Gas mileage is competitive compared to this chr. The soul has lots of space in the back hence box on wheels. Also it has dct which feels better than cvt. Im happy with my kia purchase
I dont know. Honda and toyota does not seem to care about quality as much as they used to. Engine and transmission issues in both cars. Hyundai and Kia seem to be getting better while honda and toyota seem to not care like they did back in the 1990s. I have a 2020 Civic. The sheet metal on top of the doors by the roof area is so cheap and thin, IT LEFT DENTS only after a few car washes. Many other people with 2016 to 2020 civics are complaining about this too. My car also had zero rattles the first day I drove it, and now three months later has several rattles. My friend's old 2008 civic has zero rattles for the four years he had it and the fit and finish was better than my car. also been in some newer Toyota cars and they feel cheaper versus the older ones I've been in. are hondas and toyota one of the more reliable new cars you can buy? yes. but are they as good now in comparison to the 1990s? not really.
We read about that recently too after filming this. Very surprised to hear since this car is very mechanically simple compared to other Toyota products.
I work for extended warranty the most cars we get calls on are of course Nissan CVT sometimes on their 3rd replacement. Hyundai/Kia with their engines locking up or a rod knock. We really don't see much Toyota or Honda I think i only seen 2 cvts for Honda over years a couple from Toyota but as far as engine not really.

Why do you all say it needs interior space when it’s clearly a sub-compact ? Lol that’s like buying a 3 bedroom house and complaining that it doesn’t have more bedrooms. You know what you are getting so why not buy a larger car? The next class up
The CH-R targets a much younger customer base that doesn't have children and doesn't want to pay the high insurance rates of having a super car, it's stylish and practical without breaking the bank. Try to see it from that perspective.
Good thing you're not buying the base Civic LX trim because that has a very old small outdated infotainment screen that is not touchscreen and does not have apple carplay or android auto. That's one advantage of the 2021 Corolla, even the base L trim has touchscreen with apple carplay and android auto.
Don't know about American spec cars but here in the UK the CHR comes from a Turkish factory. That together with the overly fussy styling - it's a no thanks from me. Would rather have a Mazda or Honda.
The Europeans may option this car to come with 2.0L hybrid producing 184hp, they also look better over there ;-; lucky Europeans/ seems more like it was built for the European market but it was brought to the us to see how well it sold 🤷🏾♂️
I may be in the minority but I like how it looks but I don't want to have to feel like I need to floor it to merge onto an interstate. My much smaller 2005 Acura RSX-X has 210 hp. Hard to double the size and take a big drop in power especially with an automatic transmission.
I love the look of this car but will never understand why they just didn't go with the 2.5 liter motor from the Camry and Scion TC. The 2.0 is so 2006-ish to me and the CVT surely is awful.
@@f181234 Why not? Shouldn't Toyota have something to compete with the Venue and those other miniature CUVs? The Yaris Cross can deliver AWD and nearly 60 mpg which sounds pretty appealing to me.

The transmission in 2018 is already failing. Toyota Service manager in Canada confirmed that the transmission in 2018 is going out around 90k km mark. I just hit 50k on my 2018 and can already hear the humming and grinding in transmission. So its just the matter of time now when it fails. For ayone with young kid considering this car, I would suggest test driving this car with your kid at the back because my 2 years old absolutely hates sitting at the back because its too dark with tiny windows and he cant see anything outside You get used to the power if you ignore the fact that the same car offers 184hp on hybrid engine overseas but it is what it is I do not miss the AWD at all, its good enough with winter tires on in snow Fuel mileage not good. Car is heavy, with under powered engine that is always struggling on the road while burning more fuel Interior is good, seats are very comfy
@Richard Favreau chr came out in 2018 which was the first year. Never buy a first year. Do you have proof long term about the chr s cvt after the first year?
One word reliability. A naturally aspirated 4cyl Toyota engine it’s gonna last you way longer than anything with a turbo in it. I really don’t know what he expected from a 2L four-cylinder non turbo engine these are not race cars so it’s on par with anything else with the same type of engine. It’s a good looking car way better than anything else in the class. Some of the vehicles that he’s comparing it to I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole Kia or Jeep 👎🏻. This car is definitely not for a family, but I don’t think that’s who Toyota marketing this car to. Whenever we get people in our dealership looking at this, the simple exclusion of not having AWD turns off almost 95% of potential buyers. That, and a relatively cheap feeling interior, like most other Toyotas.
When you said, “like most other Toyota’s,” did you mean all their interiors feel cheap ?
@@joshua9073 no that's why he said 'most' and not 'all'.

Where did you hear about the C-HR being discontinued? The Corolla Cross is slotting between the C-HR and the RAV4.
Nothing weird about it, its a gorgeous car
Take a shot every time Sofyan says to check out the competition
Take a shot every time he says the word "standard" in any of his videos and youre going to have a bad time real quick.
which you should check out the competition
In Europe it does come with the new 2.0 at 184hp combined, brings down 0-100 kph to 8.3 seconds.
Naw
The problem Toyota made was choosing design over practicality. They need to scrap this vehicle and come up with something new. The competition is far better than this.
These things sell like crazy in other world markets. Toyota just sells them here in NA for the heck of it.
(you mean to say there's other markets than just USA???!?!😱😱😱)
It's almost everywhere here in japan too. Problem is they should have upped the power for US market because 'muricans needs to compensate
That is correct.
Your reaction to the lackluster acceleration: PRICELESS
Ouch that was rough.
I think the next gen will have Awd and hybrid system! Just be patient
And I’ve said this to you before the tail/brake lights are LED
People that buy this car are probably the type of people to give gimmick gifts.
That's right we do. Jokes on you.
17yrs old girl wouldn't complain as first car for life. nvm 28k????
I'd be willing to get the Rav-4 or Highlander Hybrid which are bigger, more spacious, and get way better fuel economy plus AWD
I’m wishing Sofyan would show us things we can’t see like if the sun visors extend on 1 side or both and how’s the audio system. He didn’t open the glove box.
Next time, buy a Subaru Crosstrek.
Sadly, in North America you don't have thr HR-V Sport 182cv, yes same engine from the civic we've got here in France, 0 to 60 in 7,8s, really a fantastic car (got one).
aren't CVTs supposed to be able to optimize the engine's power at all times? why do they suck the life out of cars?
The one in my Corolla SE is pretty good, but it does have the added launch gear.
Safety features and tech from the Venue in which this car does come standard with.
?
@@blackwhirlwind1245 Yea and drive it off the lot don't expect any value in return.
Imagine if Toyota gave the C-HR the 2.0t from the Lexus NX300 Toyota not going to put it in the Rav4.
Needs a Hybrid & AWD badly. If you're not going to upgrade the power, at least give people better gas mileage...
“Toyota C-HR is a very stylish and neat CUV” in a boring compact CUV world.
There I corrected your title.
Spoken like a true Toyota fanboy.
@@theredline In all seriousness though, the C-HR really is a decent vehicle that is even underrated. It does bring in some pizzazz in the otherwise generic Subcompact Crossover segment, from its styling that still also brings in some geniune fun behind the wheel and decent practicality. It is a good value for the money, and I for one, would choose it over the HR-V.
Hoping that AWD and Hybrid models soon show up.

Redline Reviews coming from the Toyota troll
Hei Sofian it’s a bloody little hybrid car. It’s 1,8 liter or two?
this is the first and last C-HR from Toyota, i am sure that Toyota sell this Car for 3 - 4 years more and then Stops the Produktion.
Reading this comment gave me a stroke 🥴, but yes I agree.
Does it come in manual transmission? no? will this car be able to be driven for 20 years without major repairs? with that CVT onboard I don't think so.
when Kia comes out with the Stelos (or whatever it's called), i bet this guy is going to drool all over it. the video's gonna be titled : "amazing little suv with enough power"
edit : called it..Kia didn't even have to release the vehicle before this guy started praising them 17:56
trippplefive He already drove the Seltos a while back in San Antonio, and he likes it better!
I've never had a chance to drive this car however just by the looks, love the front design, hate the rear tail light.
I don't get why they don't add the 2.0 liter hybrid. It has 180 HP and does 0-60 in about 8 seconds..... Also gets good gas mileage.
It is a mystery why the hybrid is still not offered in our market.
America has too much or not enough money(?). Lexus 250h has the M20a hybrid.
I love how he tries to pretend that this is an objective and unbiased review, you don't like the CH-R, we get it dude.
Eh, Kona and Seltos 1.6T AWD all day, man! Those two, by far, are the only ones that matter in this segment! Though I’m curious what you might think about the Chevy Trailblazer/Buick Encore GX on that front.
the trailblazer and encore both have 3 cylinder engines and even they are faster than this thing 🤣
I got the kia soul with 1.6l turbo 201hp 195ftlb. Much faster. Gas mileage is competitive compared to this chr. The soul has lots of space in the back hence box on wheels. Also it has dct which feels better than cvt. Im happy with my kia purchase
The soul is also GDI only and has a carbon buildup problem (as well as all GDI only engines, except for Mazda).
The funny thing is despite this being a Toyota it's been having some reliability issues.
@@J-W.- Hyundai and Kia are very reliable aside from the Theta 2.4 and Nu 1.8 from the early 2010s, and I think those were more the american assembled models than the korean ones.
@@asdfghjqwertyu1858 i totally disagree with you, modern engine technologies plus severe emissions are killing cars, even the diesels are suffering
The best of this video is Sofyan bad face
It needs more space!!! It’s just not good at anything,And that’s the reason why I didn’t buy it and ended up buying Corolla sedan !! I don’t like hybrids and don’t care if it’s not offered as a hybrid but it needs interior space and AWD !
Not if you are single driver of a two car household.
I like that red color. But if we’re buy a sub compact crossover, I’d go with the Subaru Cross-Treck.
Thank you for posting this a better start of my morning I can't wait to pick up my 18 Civic Sport touring hatch.

sethy1 not everyone knows how to drive a manual
Hope you’ll get the 2.0 not the turbo, or you’ll have problems.
@@tails300 OT that wonky infotainment system.
This car needs led tail lights and AWD! It would sell much better
my ancient craftsman lawnmower > c-hr
I may be in the minority but I like how it looks but I don't want to have to feel like I need to floor it to merge onto an interstate. My much smaller 2005 Acura RSX-X has 210 hp. Hard to double the size and take a big drop in power especially with an automatic transmission.
I love the look of this car but will never understand why they just didn't go with the 2.5 liter motor from the Camry and Scion TC. The 2.0 is so 2006-ish to me and the CVT surely is awful.
Hopefully Yaris cross replaces this. Otherwise Id get an HRV, Trailblazer or CX 30.
The Yaris Cross seems better in every way.
That’s not even coming to North America
@@f181234 Why not? Shouldn't Toyota have something to compete with the Venue and those other miniature CUVs? The Yaris Cross can deliver AWD and nearly 60 mpg which sounds pretty appealing to me.
Very good review, unfortunately 0-60 is so slow 😊
and it sounds horrible 😐
Toyota: we need to make C-HR cooler...I got it! Put some dimond patterns on the headliner!
The C-HR always had diamond patterns on the interior since it was created...
@Richard Favreau one of the best review ever for chr. Never screwed up his face once like Sofyan. Unique and different not the same boring luxary sedans he's accustomed to.
@@moeanthony9308 luxury* youre welcome.
They need to put whoever keeps loading up Toyota interiors with gloss black trim in the naughty corner.
I'd love to hear your thoughts/ take on who exactly this segment is meant for. Each car seems underpowered, cramped and lacking.
People want to sit up high with bigger tires and slightly more clearance, and dont want a bigger car.
I could never see the appeal of this car. You buy this body style hoping for more practicality. But it suffers in that category. Driver dynamics also sucks. So why would anyone want to buy this garbage? Like most have said already, just go with the corolla.
It has a hatch and is bigger inside than corolla hatch. The car is for people who dont want a rav4.
Skip this car unless you really like it and wait for the corolla wagon.
A lot of space more. Is toyota able to sell little station wagons in the us? 🇺🇸
Corolla wagon? If you’re in the U.S. you will probably die before they bring the Corolla Touring Sports to us. But if they ever do, I’m buying it immediately.
Evan Danielsson in 🇪🇺 we have this little wagon. In southern europe many customers do still prefer this type of cars (space volume comfort)
They should've put the 4 banger from the Camry in it. Scion did it before with the XB and the TC. Thats the only deal breaker for me with this vehicle.
Can you please do a review on the 2020 NX 300h? Thank you!!
They need to put in the new 2.0 engine that's in the Corolla and also add AWD.
It needs the direct shift CVT with the first gear too.
@@tails300 yep thankfully Toyota is making those dreams come true. With the all new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.
Are the seats real leather or Toyota’s softtex?
Ask the passengers and your backside when you get in.
They should've used the same power train as the Rav4
At whose expense?
I have a 2021 and love it.
Reminds me of a Hyundai Veloster
Interesting! How so? They look nothing alike.
It looks good. I might like it if offered more power, a manual transmission, and AWD. The way it is now, no
The transmission in 2018 is already failing. Toyota Service manager in Canada confirmed that the transmission in 2018 is going out around 90k km mark. I just hit 50k on my 2018 and can already hear the humming and grinding in transmission. So its just the matter of time now when it fails.
For ayone with young kid considering this car, I would suggest test driving this car with your kid at the back because my 2 years old absolutely hates sitting at the back because its too dark with tiny windows and he cant see anything outside
You get used to the power if you ignore the fact that the same car offers 184hp on hybrid engine overseas but it is what it is
I do not miss the AWD at all, its good enough with winter tires on in snow
Fuel mileage not good. Car is heavy, with under powered engine that is always struggling on the road while burning more fuel
Interior is good, seats are very comfy
@Richard Favreau chr came out in 2018 which was the first year. Never buy a first year. Do you have proof long term about the chr s cvt after the first year?
My family owns a 2019 model 💪 absolutely love the CHR 👍💯
Hands down. The review was so exagerrated. Very good vehicle
It’s for single folks looking for a good daily driver that gets decent gas mileage and gonna last you a long time. It’s actually a fun car to drive.
I love how Toyota makes good looking cars with no power. I’d rather get the Hyundai Kona
184hp is not *that* low-powered...
