    For sure the best car reviews on TH-cam! You cant ask for a much better quality review! Keep it up! :)
    I drive this CHR 2.0 Hybrid Business Line pro as lease car , which we can also drive unlimited for private use. Since we drive for the company around 70.000 / 90.000km a year, the car choice was very important for me. I never had much with Toyota, (I owned an Audi A3, Audi A4 Avant, and Chrysler 300C before which are totally different cars) but I really, really love my CHR. The CVT transmission is something you need to get used to regarding the 'noise' in RPM, but you learn a bit how to drive with a CVT once you have it to understand it more. Its a world of difference once you first have it, or once you have driven it for a couple of months.
    One thing for sure however, the 2.0 185 HP engine really helps a lot better over the 1.8 and 1.2 lesser engines. I drove a Lexus CT200h in 1.8 with also CVT transmission, and it was a horrible experience in RPM noise. Especially in sports mode! The 2.0 185HP CHR was night and day difference for me. Also Comfort, options, JBL audio, Apple Carplay, handling, material use for interior, for this price point of 34.000 Eur, its really a great car for this price. I preffered it over a VW T-Cross / T-Rock, Lexus CT200h, and the new Golf for sure. Our lease contracts are only 2 years, so next year I might just pick a 2022 Facelift of the CHR again, or perhaps the 2.0 Corolla Touring Sports. :) Really starting to like the new Toyotas. They sure look waaaay better since that new CEO wanted ''no more boring cars''.

As for the interior I think this face lifted C-HR gives me more interest to try it. This is the car you can finally buy for your money. Thank you for the review.

    Typically great Thomas engineering/battery/hybrid technical details. And commentary. Thomas explains so well - so much more interesting info than if you studied the Toyota website carefully or visited the dealer! No HUD? Thanks for the German lesson for today. Not keen on a hybrid, prefer a PHEV with long electric range... Great Review Thomas and Jonas, many thanks.

    My 1.8 C-HR gets 55 - 60 mpg on the motorway when travelling at 75 - 80 mph, on a good sunny day. Drops to 45 mpg when in to a head wind or its raining hard, etc. I think that is better than a non-hybrid car can achieve... Around town I get around 60 - 65 mpg. My year to date fuel consumption (brim to brim) is running at 50 mpg. Great car for two people and to occasionally carry a couple of passengers

    I actually like the new bumpers and lights. The front bumper looked too simple and flat. Now it's more aggressive with more details and better suits the rest of the car, especially the complex rear part. The rear always reminded me of a Honda Civic 9th- gen. Interesting that they removed the running turn signals and placed them on the rear lights. =)
    The tree leaf indentations of the ceiling are cool. The small windows make you feel you are driving an armored car. )))
    Not really like the steering wheel and getting inside the rear seat row is kinda hard.
    But overall I liked the car when I took the first version on a test-drive and the new updates made it even better. )

    I drove outgoing Auris Hybrid for few city journeys and had less than 5 l\100 km. Hybrids really are very effective in the city if you have decent driving style. Also hybrid transmission is the most comfortable for me from all automatics I've tested. The "downside" is that you cannot stop looking at what's going on with hybrid monitor all the time :)

    7:34 Hey Autogefuhl
    Toyota has used small capacity Lithium ion cells for a couple of years now in the large 7 seat Prius+. While it is more responsive, it's not terribly desirable. It's made much smaller than the NiMH battery so to not change too much in the ECU programming.
    A big issue with these minute Li-ion batteries is that because of their size they can cool down very quickly during the night and can't retain their heat like much more massive plug-in batteries. So what happens in cold mornings of 5 degrees Celsius or below is that the Toyota hybrid system locks out the battery from propulsion until it safely heats up again, this can make for rough and uneconomical driving. This is to protect the Li-Ion chemistry where it can become damaged and lose Lithium ions in between the cellular separators, causing capacity loss or denitrification and worst case scenario internal shorting and fire risk.
    NiMH cells fare better in cold weather. Li-Ion makes little to no sense when packaged so small without any active thermal management for cold mornings.

    The only thing I didn't like about the previous generation of C-HR is when you put your foot down it seems to have very high revs, or it sounded like it is struggling to change up a gear. It didn't sound good at all on the motorway or accelerating up to 100kph / 60mph it sounded like it was really in pain. Hopefully they have fixed this. Or maybe its just the way with hybrids.

    Highly informative review - thank you Thomas! So does the 2.0 have less trunk space than the 1.8 due to the battery fitment? Cause I can fit two large suitcases and two pieces of cabin luggage in my 1.8 C-HR. The trim level with the blue accentuations was removed here in Sweden due to low demand, not really sure about how good that looks. And the details on the inside of the doors look very similar to what I have on my 2018 model, only they are dark brown in mine. I guess the trim levels vary on different markets. You didn't mention anything about the exteriors colours but I believe there's a new red metallic and an orange looking paint as well? Looking forward to hearing more about the updated 1.8 if you get the chance.

    Toyota does this weird thing where it makes a sporty car and gives it barely any oomph. It's a hybrid it has some fuel economy to give up for performance, just give it a sport mode, turn up the acceleration on the electric motor, they did it on the Rav 4. The reason I critique it is because I want it to be perfect, I'm looking at buying the CH-R but they don't have the Hybrid version in the states yet, not sure if they plan to release the hybrid version here.

    is it the same is it not :)

    • @TheSynecdoche
      @TheSynecdoche 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      EV mode on a non-plugin hybrid only ensures that the car runs on electric power whenever possible, that is for very short distances at a time as the battery is relatively small. Thomas says so in this review; the maximum is only 2 km.

      The reason it gets bad consumption over 120km/h is because the gearbox ratio is set for a max speed of 180km/h but this is also why you get amazing consumption at low speeds.

      The entire concept of sequential gear levers comes from sports cars. Imagine downshifting under heavy breaking in a car setup like you describe it. You'd pull yourself forward. Same thing with accelerating and upshifting. You're beeing pushed back into the seat and you are supposed to push yourself backwards even more? No. It's just wrong. You feel in even in a normal car. Drive fast and downshift manually while breaking before a corner. You will feel how wrong it is.
      Even Porsche had it setup the wrong way back when they had Tiptronic. They were rare but man... It destroys the whole car. I only know of Mazda and BMW that actually do it right today. In this day and age of paddle shifters it might be a non issue, but not all cars have it. The VW Caddy we have at work has DSG. And that is setup the wrong way. ESPECIALLY in that car where you sit so high - with the gear lever so low, it's just WRONG to downshift by pulling it towards you. Very unergonomic.
      Someone once dumbed it down by assuming that stick forward = stick up = shift up.

During the periodic automobile inspection the extinguisher (presence and expiration date) as well as the presence and state of other mandatory safety equipment (warning triangle, first aid kit and high-visibility reflective jacket) are often not checked.

    I just cannot get beyond the feeling that it is just a design-oriented car. As you said on the video, Toyota themselves can be quoted in saying that buyers of this model are mainly buying because of the design. Even so, it just compromises so much for that design; in that, the insanely small rear-windows, the unnecessarily space inefficient rear door handles, that hand-span-wide big rear pillar. Additionally, with the interior and that cheaply put on screen.
    I still think it is the most appealing Toyota, this specific facelift that is. Your comment that it doesn't have that sluggish, disconnected feeling steering either, with proper suspension as well this time around with the 2.0 hybrid. Yeah, if I am to buy a Toyota, this would be it.
    But if you want a reliable Japanese car, why chose any of this over the Mazda or Honda offerings I don't understand still.

      t Lim Ok, why not make the car lighter, from carbon fibre or CRP and skip the hybrid altogether. It's not effective for the car to charge itself. Personally I think it's so incredible stupid. Some people say the car will charge the batteries when you brake, but if you're a smooth driver you don't need to use the brakes anyway and the generators will just slow you down too quick and the petrol engine will use more fuel to regain speed.

    • @apangurra2775
      @apangurra2775 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      t Lim The benefit would be having plug-in 10-20km of electric range to cover short trips on electric power only. On most short trips the petrol engine might not need to start. Then the consumption goes down.
