There are actually fan-made comics out made by fans. However, much of what I’ve seen is based on the MCU, though they are actually surprisingly good, whether it’s Temporal Agent Loki reuniting with Thor as a brother after he ‘died’ twice (First Kursed, then Thanos), or Captain America entrusting one of the Infinity Stones to Red Skull after he was freed from the Tesseract and making peace with his enemy.
I treat comics like the SCP universe. There is no "one true" canon. Just a lot of details and plot elements that can be used to construct an interesting canon or spun-off into new ideas and concepts entirely as more stories are added and imagined. Like how there's many version of adult peter and his future. sometimes he starts a company, sometimes he just climbs the ranks in the Bugle, sometimes he gets mind-jacked by one of his villains, sometimes he simply retires and lets a new, younger spidey take the reigns. Sometimes the younger Spidey is his daughter, or some random black kid, or a clone. You get to pick, but they all add context for the character that the word "Spider-Man" represents.
Both Ultimate Spider-Man runs are absolutely amazing, it's crazy how the mainline run of Spider-Man comics is nowhere near that level of quality. Honestly I much prefer the ending proposed here, to finally let Peter be happy. Let him have the family, the life he wants with MJ. It's much better than One More Day and Paul...
I mean it’s an ending this is like comparing apples and oranges. If you want to make argument that Synder’s Batman run ( a book that is constantly trying new things with a continuous status quo) is much better than Well’s run sure. If you agruing that Superman rebirth is better than Well’s run because that is also an ongoing storyline that has Superman available to use in crossover than sure. But comparing an ongoing stable (and the biggest one it’s not even close) that essentially is forced to have a status quo and countinuing having stories to an alternate universe that has a beginning middle in end is such a nothing argument.
Also fuck Spider-man growing up does not mean he need to be happy to have good story. The problem with the wells run to me is that nothing in Peter’s life feels like it has stakes because there is not enough good so everything feel bad. But that doesn’t mean that Peter needs to be happy for a story to be good. There are tons of mediocre stories where he’s happy and basically nothing is said about the character. We wouldn’t have gotten Swamp thing is Alan Moore had decided to make Swamp thing Miserable to some extent.
I haven't bought a comic in well over a decade, but that changes today. If supporting Ultimate helps Marvel to realise we don't want Peter to be miserable, then that's what every Spidey fan needs to do.
I was at NYCC this year at the Spider-Man panel. Someone asked the editor in charge of all main continuity Spider-Man books. “Why can’t Spider-Man be married again? Why can’t he have some level of happiness in his life?” He basically went on to claim that that wasn’t realistic because his personal relationships haven’t worked out so that must apply for Peter also. He was booed by everyone In the room and then refused to answer any more questions about the subject claiming it’s toxic. Truly embarrassing that these are the people in charge of such iconic characters.
That has to be one of the most pathetic answers to a question like that I've ever heard. So because this guy's life is miserable, Peter (and the readers as a result) must suffer as well? That's some next level trauma dumping. Which is the only truly "toxic" thing I see.
It's totally fine to use your personal experiences in a story. But when that story has f**king Spider-Man in it, you need to have some restraint. Someone needs to tell those writers this.
For all of the first Ultimate universe's faults, Peter giving his life to save the people he loved is one of the best Spider Man moments ever. Not to mention Thor being at his funeral and smiling, not for any mean spirited reason, but because he knew Peter was a fighter and he knows that heroes like Peter Parker go to Valhalla. Thor knew the kid went to a better place
Thor and peter were like the 2 only good people in that universe (tony got better over time becoming an actual real cool dude but he was an ass originally) But seriously like thor and peter were the ones who genuinely were the only people who were not assholes were fully heroes
I mean, Stan Lee said that Spider-man was supposed to be the hero that anyone can relate to, the (kinda) realistic hero, the one that , anyone that picked up a spider-man book, would instantly like and invest themselves into. To continuosly torture the character by, oh I dont know, having him be in the cuck chair for Paul, have his aunt shot half to death and have him take a deal with the god damn Devil to fix her, is purposely pissing on the meaning of Spider-man. Honestly wtf is wrong with Marvel editorial? Who decided that having sadists in charge of a supposedly wholesome character was a good idea?
Stan Lee's definition of "Relatable" : Struggling through life but still coming on top through willpower and support of your loved ones. Marvel's Editorial's definition : Live a miserable life. Buy our Comics.
To answer your question at the end, mainly 3 guys: Joe Quesada (editor in chief at the time of OMD, has admited that OMD is his idea), Tom Beevort (a strong presence at marvel overall, and has shared the same vision with Quesada), and Nick Lowe (currently the editor for ASM).
The OG Ultimate Spider-Man is my comfort comic, I love the clearly dated early 2000’s setting and I think it adds to its charm instead of detracting its quality for me.
That’s the thing. Writers HAVE wanted to. Writers PITCHED STORIES to try to. The editorial now is the same as it was then and they have and will continue to shut down these stories and not allow them to be published
Ultimate Spider-Man gave us an MJ we needed for a while. A lot of people hate on her but it’s the editors’ fault. We all know that MJ ain’t like that. She’s sweet, considerate, and always wanting to support Peter
OMD would have made much more sense if MJ was the one lying on a death-bed instead of May since it be believable that he'd sacrifice his own happiness to ensure that his wife lived, even if she didn't remember him, instead of save somebody whose been perpetually on deaths door since the late 60s. Hell, Mephisto's arrangement is probably something May would've hated had she'd known what it took to get her back
My thoughts exactly, like the story is ass and all the ramification we are still experiencing this many years later is ridiculous, but at the very least they could've made it a hell of alot more believable that Peter would resort to making a literal deal with the devil by having MJ be the one on her death bed instead of May. Such a simple change, which I would imagine they thought of, but for some stupid reason they decided to have it be his old ass aunt who had already been knocking on deaths door for years.
They could do that in the mcu now, since marvels daredevil as well as the other Netflix shows are officially canon to that universe and aunt may is already dead. Although I’d still rather not have him make a deal with f*cking mephisto of all peoplez
It's sort of funny that in the years since OMD, two non-comic Spider-Man stories (which almost certainly were seen by more people than read ASM) did in fact choose to kill off May. One of these times she could have been saved if Peter did the wrong thing for selfish reasons, and both involve her keeping him on the straight and narrow with her dying breath. Both feel like pointed reactions to OMD, made by teams where the Spider-Desk editors don't have any sway.
@@AzraelNewtype0079 Yep, Spider-Man PS4 has legitimately one of my favourite Spider-Man stories (the gameplay certainly helped tho) No Way Home was... ok ig
the 8 deaths of spider-man are feeling like its kind of a end and beginning. like, its basically saying "okay to get the zeb of it all out, were gonna just do this thing and then after this, its going to go in a hopefully new diretion." Ultimate spider-man by hickman is just one of the best spider-man comics over all. also i loved how the nick spencer run put MJ and Peter in a good place. only for Zeb Wells and mainly the spider-man Editorial i;m thnking, saying "Peter and MJ are together and in a good place!? WE CANNOT HAVE IT!!"
I do think they need to make some kinda decision in the main continuity. You can't just keep throwing crap at him for decades and expect fans to be OK with it, whether it's with MJ or not, he needs to move on in his life and find stability.
Btw my crew of Amazing voice actors adapted Kraven’s last hunt into a motion comic movie 🍿 If anyone is interested in a Dostoevsky style Spider-man story
Honestly, the best way to fix Spiderman comics is simple. They've come really close to following through with it a couple of times. They just never deliver. 1. Do a reset, or a Thanos snap, or a "No More Mutants," thing. Dump everything that came after the events of "one more day." 2. Do the intro to "Renew your vows." Have Peter be a photographer working for Jameson and not making enough money to support his wife and daughter. The Avengers offer him a permanent spot on the team and living quarters for his wife and kid, but before he gives them an answer Venom calls from MJ's cell phone. They fight. Venom dies. Peter saves his family and decides to put them first. Spiderman retires/vanishes and the Avengers have no clue why he bailed on them. 3. A couple of years go by, and Miles Morales starts his school year at a new school. With a new teacher for all his AP science classes that we never see the face or hear the name of. Copy the opening of Into the Spiderverse, but replace Spiderman's fight with Kingpin with any Defender or Hell's Kitchen hero taking on Tombstone or Kingpin or whoever. Miles gets bitten by another spider, and decides to use his powers to save his Uncle Aaron from whoever the Prowler is working for. 4. Miles fails spectacularly. Maybe Prowler lives. Maybe he dies. Miles is at his all is lost moment when his teacher from all his AP science classes stumbles on him in his suit making more web fluid in the chemistry lab. Miles tries to convince "Mr. Parker" that "it isn't what it looks like." Peter just shakes his head and says, "If you're really going to do this, then you're gonna do it right." 5. From that point on, Miles is Spiderman, and Peter is his Yoda. They can maybe get Peter back in one of his old suits once every dozen or so books, but he stays retired. If any other Spider tries to join Miles, it will be Annie May Parker, who is a couple years younger than Miles and just developing her powers. This is the only logical and acceptable route to take Spiderman comics.
If I had a nickel everytime an "Ultimate Spider-Man" was created to pick up the slack of the standard ASM run, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's strange that it happened twice.
Loved the video, ending was beautiful. Thanks for sharing just a few of the thousands of precious moments between Peter and MJ from the comics. I spent most of my life reading Spider-Man and their relationship is really the heart of it all.
LMAOO I love how hard this goes in already, I remember that video you referenced in the beginning, I absolutely loved it. I listened to a lot of your stuff while working actually in the background, when I was working retail. Something about the way you tell these stories is absolutely captivating, even when I can't see the comics you give me a clear picture of what's going on.(though being able to sit and pay attention to them is a bit better of course, the artists are truly phenomenal in some of their work)You can feel the emotion, the care and effort you put into your scripts, and I don't mind rewatching your stuff again and again. I absolutely adore the Beta Ray Bill video as well bc I had always been kinda interested in the character but wasn't sure where to start, exactly, and your videos always give me a fantastic timeline of events, obviously some things get skipped over for the sake of being brief but even when you're concise I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything necessary. You're awesome, dude, and I hope you keep making your videos!
The thumbnail you used I found as a back-issue in the comic warehouse I worked at. Bought it, and it’s my favorite Spider-Man comic to this day. As close to a Spider-Man depiction if I’ve ever seen.
For as much as I love the various characters created by Dc and Marvel over the years, and for how many storylines I enjoy from the runs of their characters, when it comes to American comics I do generally lean towards the output of IDW, Dark Horse and Image for the simple fact that their comics have a tendency to actually be brought to a proper end.
Ultimate Spider-Man art is gorgeous!! Your love for Spider-Man is equal to mine. He helped me understand quite a bit about life and got me through tough periods with the realization that it’s my responsibility to face it accept the outcome. It broke my heart to see Peter struggle and dig himself a whole. Don’t get me started on MJ and Paul. With the new Ultimate run it’s not just fresh air but a gasp of relief seeing Peter actually get what he’s earned for all these years.
Dang anything with Ultimate in Spider-Man's name just becomes amazing without question. Yeah the writers definitely wanted to let Peter personally know he is suffering and it's not going to change.
I think I've deduced what happened to the Zeb Wells run ... It feels like he doesn't care. He knows the book has been brutalized by the editorial so he just stopped caring because In his mind it will never be good again. Now this is just an assumption I'm not Zeb I don't know what he was thinking when writing this run of TASM and most of us probably never will but this is probably the best I could make sense of it. Alex's video on the run completely scrapped the barrel to make sense of it all and my previous deduction was that it was a parody of what editorial wants spiderman to be with Peter being a loser and MJ taking the most extreme route to not be with him and the black suit arc was kind of a response to fan out cry... Then I got stuck when the run kept going... I seriously can't make sense of any of this
So, I just found out that zeb wells run finished, so i started reading "the 8 death of spiderman" issues that have come so far, and I have really enjoyed them, of course it can't just do an overcorrection and put MJ and Peter back together like nothing, that is something that will take a while. But the story so far seems fun, wich I can't say about the zeb wells run. But yeah, ultimate Spider-Man is so good, amazingly good.
While the Ultimate run of comics started off with a good idea, 'tell the original stories for a modern audience'... The Ultimate run got into a middle ground of actively killing off it's heroes in sick and twisted ways that pointed less to, a desire to tell the modern audience the adventures of their heroes, and was a series built to destroy those heroes. Then when it got into it's late game... no one really cared about the Ultimate-verse because it never nailed in the foundations of it's characters... tearing them down, relying on the foundations of authors of 60 years ago. It was a good idea that can be summed up in a common occurrence in Spider Man comics. Psycho eyes reaction panel.
Yeah i LOVED the ultimate books. I started with the game funny enough Had 2 older friends who had it on ps2 and gamecube. Loved playing it and eventually got my own copy. Then started reading the comics years later. Pure FIRE Later on in like 2011 my friend/bro told me they made a character called "Miles morales" so I look him up and im SHOCKED to see they made him a brotha. Which had me hype asf. Time passes tho and because the library didnt have miles comics i forgot bout buddy. 2013 and my school has a book fair. I go in and i see a spidey volume cover. Spidey with a red and black suit is swinging towards the cover. I didnt know which suit or spidey it was, so i doubted i should get it. However sumn told me to buy it and im glad ASF i did. Miles Vol1 is my comfort book(its not really miles title, but its still ult Spideys issue numbers cont). Reading it made me connect to miles. Back then i was a black kid in a predominately white school. Sumn ppl would NOT hesitate to throw shots at me for. From "you talk white", to "youre the smartest black guy i know(with a devious grin behind it)", to my dean mistaking me for 1 of the other few black kids there (despite us looking NOTHING alike) and trying to send me to iss. I felt like i didnt belong. But it was a good school and i was pretty smart. Seeing miles decide to stand up for himself and try navigate through his new school life spoke to me. Now whenever im in a new environment like a college or new job, i always bring that comic with me. 🤟🏾
Knowing that MCU Spidey is going to have another trilogy... MCU please take notes. This is great. Spider-Man gets his arc with all his classic villians, it doesn't gloss over what happened in one more day, MJ and Pete have a crisis point but in the end Pete ends with MJ no matter what? Thats amazing. Beautiful. Absolute Cinema. Ultimate Spiderman was LOVELY but instead of dying... Pete goes through all that suffering just to have MJ waiting at the end, for a happy ending (For real this time)
This is how I felt with Immortal Hulk. It felt like a perfect conclusion to Bruce Banner's story and what it means to be a Hulk, and the current series is just floundering around and feels like it ignored everything Immortal Hulk did, putting Bruce again in a miserable state. In my head, Immortal Hulk is the final series for Hulk and anything after is not canon to me lol.
I know new comic book readers usually look for "starting points" for certain characters but we should also start recommending "stopping points" like Immortal Hulk, Immortal Iron Fist, the Sensational issues Mullet-Man recommends in this issue, etc.
i have been a spidey fan for like 3-4 years and i may not have a huge knowledge of most comics but this video really went hard through my heart also love your voice!!
The thing about civil war when peter "stopped holding back" I think he still was. He definitley could have killed kingpin with a single punch but he didn't
not kidding bro hickmans run has brought me so much joy as a massive spiderman fanboy that panel where he takes mj swinging was my background for the longest when that came out . also so glad you brought up og ultimate spiderman. that is peak spiderman.
The issue with all of this is that there is no ending for peter, Spiderman is the most popular character at marvel, They cannot afford to let him retire
I loved the bit of the recording your gf took of your pure thoughts, I could FEEL exactly the excitement you were talking about when you said I can’t wait to write about it, thank you for your passion mulletman
I think it's funny that everything else surrounding the main spider-man comic is doing great; the video games, the movies and the new ultimate spider-man run. It makes me so sad that writers and editorial are so determined to keep spider-man down and have regressed his character back to the stone age.
"Amazing Spider-Man," is the first superhero comic series I got invested in and I'm currently still relatively new to it. I plan to stop after Peter and MJ marry because I thought that would be a good hypothetical (and happy) endpoint and based on what I've heard about modern, "Amazing Spider-Man," comics I think that's a good call. The writers sound borderline sadistic towards Peter.
Reason why I liked Superman and Lois show series leading up to its finale in season 4. It didn't have the restraint of comic writers like Joe Quesada mandating every superhero must be alone and unhappy to continue the story. They made a true conclusion to his story from beginning to end to Supermans dying day and even if he could not come back it was satisfying he lived a full life. Other stories comic wise I could see is. Invincible and Old Man Logan. Even though the latter was more tragic. It had a final farewell toward that specific character of Wolverine. But yeah. Spiderman One More day years ago turned me off big time. And then gave me hope when it seemed like they were about to have Peter go back with MJ with the story and continue forward only to get the shaft again while the writer literally told us hes going to piss us off like its a good thing.
Ultimate Spiderman (2024) is very Intresting to me and it’s the first ever comic I’ve read, and is refreshing to see a new introduction to the iconic highschool kid gets bit by a radioactive spider, and instead is an adult who gains his power only when he’s an adult after something happened. I’m not sure if it is a continuation of a previous marvel comic that led to the events in Ultimate Spiderman (2024). But I’ll have to look into it
Ultimate Invasion is the prequel to Ultimate Spider-Man and it explains the attack that caused the death of Aunt May and the Osborns. It also properly introduces Iron Lad that is the character that gives Peter the Spider.
I wanna also recommend Spider-Man : Octo Girl cause it’s like ultimate spider man but for superior spiderman/ doc ock. It is an incredibly faithful adaptation that was way better than superior 3
Spider-Man comics are not dead, ultimate spiderman is literally right there and lowe knows we hate him. Spider-Man will still get more games, shows, movies, comice and other media. Spider-Man is still alive, even if the amazing comics might as well be dead.
@TuckerMasterson-t6i To be fair that's zeb wells comic run From 2021 till September this year was his time. Now another writer has the reigns. Nick Spencer was dope, I think this next writer can work some magic. Seeing as that's the current thing with the newest run. With Peter facing cytoraks disciples
@TuckerMasterson-t6i Um, u mean goblin sins? I'm pretty sure red goblin was Nick Spencer's. He happens in like 2018/2019. That's far b4 Zeb takes over in late 2021
im just trying to eat my fucking lunch and your reading of ultimate peter’s death made me cry lmao. brought back all the emotions i felt the first time i read it.
I personally don't read comics, but I love hearing them broken down, I'm a sucker for Spiderman because growing up it was the one superhero that really felt they could exist. Batman was another; The trials and tribulations they have been through just adds to the mix.
I would also like to add to the argument that mj in ultimate spider-man (2024) isnt written just how mj should be in 616 now. She is also written how Mj was consistently written by authors(unless they didnt like her , in which they mischaracterized her) pre one more day, after that, her , peter , felicia and more were written out of character very often with few exceptions like the spencer run
Marvel editorial needs to write a massive crossover event with Mephisto, where he manages to control all of reality, only to find that the deal he made with Peter and MJ makes them immune to his control. Through literal insurmountable odds and facing trials that are metaphorical representations of the shit Marvel editorial has put him through, Peter and MJ pull through and saves the universe. With Mephisto defeated, the effects of One More Day is undone and Peter and MJ get to finally go on with their lives.
11:04 i swear to god i hate you so mutch for using this Picture 😂😂😂😂😂😂 i bursted out laughing, this stupid picture, i swear to god. My humor is broken 😅
I'm fine with more spiderman stories being made, especially ones with peter parker, but they gotta end his (mainline) story within the next decade dude
You are the Peter Parker of this universe. This life is a gift and break from a world of powers and world-ending threats. Idk, I'm just musing, but you got that Peter Parker vibe and you could totally play the dude in a film. So now it's my head canon that in this Earth, Peter Parker is a comic lover and makes videos about his favorite comics.
When one more day came out I was optimistic. I really dug that mephisto wanted Peter and Mj's marriage just because it was one of the most pure, beautiful, and right things in all of creation, and he wanted to ruin it. He didn't want a soul, or to kill a puppy, or for evil to triumph for all. Time, and he was never going to come back and twist the knife or monkey paw the deal. He just knew the world would be less good, and that was enough to offer a no strings attached deal to the. I think they could have done a lot with that. My theory for the longest time was the last condition mj had to make the deal with mephisto was to being back Gwen Stacy unbeknownst to Peter. And eventually Peter would literally go to hell and back to win back his future, only to see an alive Gwen, and realize in getting back his marriage he would lose Gwen again. I think with kindred we maybe almost got something similar. And now we have... Paul... At least ultimate is good.
The funny fucked up thing about the current run of Spiderman.....is that its a realistic outcome from making a deal with the damn devil of Marvel( or one of them). This perpetual state of misery , frustration and stress that Peter faces even from his Aunt even though she is granted another line of life. He's trying too too hard to hold on things in the wrong way and letting other things go in the worst way (MJ to Paul). Its still ass though.
if i were writing for marvel right now i would propose a story called "No more days" that would involve an end of the world scenario that marvels heroes can't stop probably one caused by mehphisto himself but in the process of destroying all things he through trickery or some fault of his own ends up breaking his contract with peter and the universe would be restored to the events right after civil war to right before the deal was made but instead of the deal being made it simply never happens and the 616 timeline we all know and love is restored.
I love ultimate Spider-Man by Jonathan Hickman it’s really awesome and badass and seeing Peter Parker and Mary Jane being married and they have there child mayday Parker the future spider girl and their son while it isn’t Benji but Richard Parker is a close enough for me and makes me so happy in my opinion.
I have read this since I was 10 (1990). Im old. But your are exactly right. The only way to protest their garbage direction of Spider Man is to NOT BUT THE COMIC. I am buying Hickman's trade based on your recommendation. Thank you!
Maybe Peter needs to perish during an event comic like what happened to Bruce Banner in Civil War II. And then get his own comic equivalent to Immortal Hulk.
@eastonenroth2366 NAH! Remember they gotta have it be a shocking return by having Peter be dead for a couple years. And let people enjoy a period where Miles Morales gets to be the main Spider-Man in the comics.
@@Rabbitlord108 well, instead of dying could Peter just take a break and go somewhere else and have his “immortal hulk” be about readjusting to his old life?
@@Rabbitlord108 yeah, but I’m pretty sure everyone is sick of the “comic character dying than coming back to prove that death is meaningless in comics” trope.
Marvel forgets that the reason Spider-Man became the famous icon he is today isn't just because of the "He's a hero who doesn't get the hero's treatment and is dealing with real world problems" trope, it's because he grew and overcame those problems. Nobody wants to read a story that never changes, nobody wants to read a story that's constantly depressing and miserable for the characters involved. It's okay for a hero to struggle and fail, but it has to be for a reason and lately, Peter is constantly struggling and failing but it seems like it's for no real reason and he almost never grows and overcomes it anymore. It's cruel, and it's the reason that most people have just kind of thrown their hands up in the air and given up on Amazing Spider-Man ever recapturing that magic that made the comic so lovable in the first place.
Eddie Brock has become an honest-to-god hero, became a flawed, yet well-meaning father of a teenager and spent some time as a mulidimensional, galaxy-hopping god. Meanwhile, Pete is still stuck in the same rut of misery and failure. Even when Ewing wanted to take Venom back to basics, he simply let someone else take over the role in Eddie's place. As a kid, I used to enjoy Venom more when he showed up in Spidey's books than when he were on his own as an anti-hero. Now, the roles have been reversed, as I find Spidey's inspiring confidence, emotional insight and cool head that he's rightfully earned from his years of super heroing in Ewing's Venom to be far more enjoyable than the stasis that is going on in his own books. I especially love that little scene where Peter finally buries the hatchet with the symbiote after he finds it hidden amongst his clothes, stating that, while the symbiote may not always have known right from wrong, it's obvious that it knows differently now, and that doing the right thing even when it's hard and you want nothing more than to just shut your eyes and isolate yourself from the world is what responsibility is all about. That's Peter Parker to me.
thankfully there's so much media and material and even fan-interpretations that exists so that we don't have to deal with whatever this story with Mark or Paul or whatever his name is.
I like the make your own ending suggestion. I personally have always made my ending issue 500 the final part of the " Happy Birthday Arc" when he has to relive all of his greatest fights back to back and try to make it through them all and his prize is 5 minutes with Uncle Ben and both get to see each other happy. Then Peter walks back in to his Wife MJ. Surrounded by friends and family. That being said I know there were some good stories after I just think there's something nice about Peter having a happy ending.
got solid 3 mins in , thanks for reminding me that i didt read the miles run of ultimate spider man yet , will be back here after i am done with that, you get a like for that alone
The ultimate and renew your vows are too great stories and actually give spider man a happy ending at least two degree. The main 616 I actually can't read continuously because it's so depressing that actually hurts me psychologically.
5:00 we all know Peter could never stop being Spider-Man. Not for long anyway. In Spider-Men II we see Peter is Spider-Man again anyway in the Ultimate Universe. (Let’s just ignore the part where Maker finds the Ultimate world in shambles)
You'll probably never even notice this, but what is your choice for either the greatest friends turned enemies, or what is your greatest fall from grace/redemption story in media (to clarify, a hero turning villain, or villain turning s new leaf, even if only temporary).
Gosh that’s a bit tough, well for a redemption I really love superior Spider-Man, Fall from grace has gotta be Daredevil in Zdarskys run after killing a criminal accidentally, and friends to enemies I’ll say is Geto & Gojo or Anakin & Obi Wan
Another great series is "Renew your vows" where they show Peter and MJ not only rejecting Mephisto's offer but the fallout afterwards with them fighting together.
Honestly, I think fans making their own canon instead of religiously following the messy canon of superhero comics makes the most sense
Some fans follow what’s less messy than others because of that system of writing
treating it like the warhammer franchise would be the best i think
There are actually fan-made comics out made by fans. However, much of what I’ve seen is based on the MCU, though they are actually surprisingly good, whether it’s Temporal Agent Loki reuniting with Thor as a brother after he ‘died’ twice (First Kursed, then Thanos), or Captain America entrusting one of the Infinity Stones to Red Skull after he was freed from the Tesseract and making peace with his enemy.
That's what I do often when writers make terrible decisions
Your live reaction… “that’s my hero, there he is!”
That. That is my exact feeling reading Hickman’s USM.
it's written by Chip Zdarksy, the new Ultimate world was created by Hickman
@@TaxEvader1776 Hickman definitely wrote the new ultimate spiderman as well.
@ mb I just fact checked it I was wrong lmao

We wouldn’t have gotten Swamp thing is Alan Moore had decided to make Swamp thing Miserable to some extent.
Literally let him retire and be happy and give the mask to Miles
no sorry i do not want Peter to be replaced by Miles again!
@ the previous runs and cartoons will always be there
If wally can replace barry, why can’t Miles replace Peter?
I haven't bought a comic in well over a decade, but that changes today. If supporting Ultimate helps Marvel to realise we don't want Peter to be miserable, then that's what every Spidey fan needs to do.
But poor
@@krispingle Understandable, you're exempted.
Get your money up not your funny up@@krispingle
Its crazy how both Ultimate runs ended up becoming the goat version of the character
Then they lived up to their names as the ultimates.
Honestly? That's just kind of sad.
The fact it's most likely the same dude who self-inserted himself as Paul, says alot....Marvel def needs to be more careful hiring writers.
@FluppietheRockruffFanI think that the problem are the editors
For all of the first Ultimate universe's faults, Peter giving his life to save the people he loved is one of the best Spider Man moments ever. Not to mention Thor being at his funeral and smiling, not for any mean spirited reason, but because he knew Peter was a fighter and he knows that heroes like Peter Parker go to Valhalla. Thor knew the kid went to a better place
Thor and peter were like the 2 only good people in that universe (tony got better over time becoming an actual real cool dude but he was an ass originally)
But seriously like thor and peter were the ones who genuinely were the only people who were not assholes were fully heroes
In other words, he knew Peter was, worthy
I mean the shot to Mae and devil wish yeh but people do get clicked whether they like it or not
Stan Lee's definition of "Relatable" : Struggling through life but still coming on top through willpower and support of your loved ones.
@@mememe131199 Don't forget Akira Yoshida/C.B. Beluski(Current head of Marvel Editorial) who appears to be a massive Gwen Stacy fanboy.

The same artist had a run on Daredevil (written by Chip Zdarsky) that is fantastic.
The OG Ultimate Spider-Man is my comfort comic, I love the clearly dated early 2000’s setting and I think it adds to its charm instead of detracting its quality for me.
Agreed.
Spider-man will live on forever
I wish some writer just say "nope" and retcons One More Day. Come on, guys. You retcon things all the time. Just this one. Please.
or just have fans challenge that particular writer and have them accept for streetbeefs, comics edition
That’s the thing. Writers HAVE wanted to. Writers PITCHED STORIES to try to. The editorial now is the same as it was then and they have and will continue to shut down these stories and not allow them to be published
Unfortunately its not that simple. In the end, editorial is the one who holds control over the story, not the writers.
@@sheepycheeze Ah, I see. My lack of understanding about those things is showing.
@@ThatVeryOldMan don't fret it man. Not many people know that, especially with how "niche" the comic production process is
Ultimate Spider-Man gave us an MJ we needed for a while. A lot of people hate on her but it’s the editors’ fault. We all know that MJ ain’t like that. She’s sweet, considerate, and always wanting to support Peter
I blame Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies for this. Although I love those films to death, I think MJ was one of the characters done dirty in it.
As I recall it was because the writer of OMD, you know the guy, has problems with relationship and a bit of a momma's boy. Hence Aunt May, not MJ.
@@AzraelNewtype0079 Yep, Spider-Man PS4 has legitimately one of my favourite Spider-Man stories (the gameplay certainly helped tho)
No Way Home was... ok ig
Spider-Man Life Story is a perfect wrap-up of his adventures. Unfortunately Marvel will never allow this to be canon.
Great to see you're still around talking about comics (marvel, dc, image, darhorse, etc)
Love that image. Peter and MJ together is what we need😊😊
the 8 deaths of spider-man are feeling like its kind of a end and beginning. like, its basically saying "okay to get the zeb of it all out, were gonna just do this thing and then after this, its going to go in a hopefully new diretion." Ultimate spider-man by hickman is just one of the best spider-man comics over all. also i loved how the nick spencer run put MJ and Peter in a good place. only for Zeb Wells and mainly the spider-man Editorial i;m thnking, saying "Peter and MJ are together and in a good place!? WE CANNOT HAVE IT!!"
The Older we all get the more sad Peter Parker’s life seems to us
I do think they need to make some kinda decision in the main continuity. You can't just keep throwing crap at him for decades and expect fans to be OK with it, whether it's with MJ or not, he needs to move on in his life and find stability.
Btw my crew of Amazing voice actors adapted Kraven’s last hunt into a motion comic movie 🍿
If anyone is interested in a Dostoevsky style Spider-man story
Honestly, the best way to fix Spiderman comics is simple. They've come really close to following through with it a couple of times. They just never deliver.
1. Do a reset, or a Thanos snap, or a "No More Mutants," thing. Dump everything that came after the events of "one more day."
Parker" that "it isn't what it looks like." Peter just shakes his head and says, "If you're really going to do this, then you're gonna do it right."
Literally had nothing to watch and mullet man comes in clutch like always. The goat

Based.
Dude this video hit me right in the feels!

Spider-Man Comics May Be Dead, But He Will Live On Forever Inside Our Hearts.
The Hickman run of ultimate Spiderman restored my faith in Peter after it was long shattered.
No more heros soundtrack is such a good cherry on top of this great vid.
I started with the game funny enough
Had 2 older friends who had it on ps2 and gamecube. Loved playing it and eventually got my own copy.
Then started reading the comics years later.

Later on in like 2011 my friend/bro told me they made a character called "Miles morales" so I look him up and im SHOCKED to see they made him a brotha.
Pete goes through all that suffering just to have MJ waiting at the end, for a happy ending (For real this time)
Who else remembers that short ‘death of Spider-Man’ motion comic fan film that we all cried at?
This is how I felt with Immortal Hulk. It felt like a perfect conclusion to Bruce Banner's story and what it means to be a Hulk, and the current series is just floundering around and feels like it ignored everything Immortal Hulk did, putting Bruce again in a miserable state. In my head, Immortal Hulk is the final series for Hulk and anything after is not canon to me lol.
I know new comic book readers usually look for "starting points" for certain characters but we should also start recommending "stopping points" like Immortal Hulk, Immortal Iron Fist, the Sensational issues Mullet-Man recommends in this issue, etc.
holy shit ending with a that green gentleman cover was not on my bingo card. incredible

I think it's funny that everything else surrounding the main spider-man comic is doing great; the video games, the movies and the new ultimate spider-man run. No More Heroes 2 - “It’s Kill or be Killed”
@ Thankyou, now I understand the plot, it was a bit confusing
I wanna also recommend Spider-Man : Octo Girl cause it’s like ultimate spider man but for superior spiderman/ doc ock. It is an incredibly faithful adaptation that was way better than superior 3

@chriss.249 I think the best part of zeb wells run was red goblin. A bad concept turned out really well.

I'm pretty sure red goblin was Nick Spencer's. He happens in like 2018/2019. That's far b4 Zeb takes over in late 2021

Ultimate Spider-Men currently going 2-0 in actually having a comfortable ending.
I personally don't read comics, but I love hearing them broken down, I'm a sucker for Spiderman because growing up it was the one superhero that really felt they could exist. Batman was another; The trials and tribulations they have been through just adds to the mix.
You perfectly explained my thoughts of what marvel has done to my 🐐
I would also like to add to the argument that mj in ultimate spider-man (2024) isnt written just how mj should be in 616 now.
Also, since they’ve been teasing us since the fucking clone saga, the last panel of the comic should be MJ showing Peter a positive pregnancy test.

2:25 bro is sassy
12:36 the fact that you hope it doesn't happens means that you care, aghhh a spiderman story you can care about, it's been years.

Can we just skip to the immortal hulk bit?
@eastonenroth2366 NAH! Remember they gotta have it be a shocking return by having Peter be dead for a couple years. And let people enjoy a period where Miles Morales gets to be the main Spider-Man in the comics.
@@Rabbitlord108 well, instead of dying could Peter just take a break and go somewhere else and have his “immortal hulk” be about readjusting to his old life?
@eastonenroth2366 Nope. A character dying gives more shock value than going on break.
@@Rabbitlord108 yeah, but I’m pretty sure everyone is sick of the “comic character dying than coming back to prove that death is meaningless in comics” trope.
Honestly, it's zeb wells run took me through the stages of grief. I started off angry, then sad, then, and finally, then I became bored.

Revisiting SpiderGirl this year has been amazing for me. I still love the artstyle and panel work.
I've kind of just decided that spiderman ended at the airport...........everything else has been an alternate universe for masochists
Peter met God, then proceeded to make a deal with a devil. Of course he would.
4:29 “nah, ima do my own thing” 😂
in every earth it's always Peter n MJ... I hope they fix earth 616 if not then it's the end of their world
Another great series is "Renew your vows" where they show Peter and MJ not only rejecting Mephisto's offer but the fallout afterwards with them fighting together.
