BTW, I live in California and haven't lived in snow country since about 1940 so it's not my fight. You can't save a parking spot during any other weather event. You can't save a spot when it's raining or when it's sunny, but people seem to think that they can save a spot after a snow storm just because they dug their car out. You had to dig yourself out because you wanted to go somewhere. That doesn't mean that you get to park there when you get back.

I saw a lady once break out a very long garden hose. She started spraying the snow off the roof and then the windows, washing it down the sides on the street. She hosed that snow by the drivers door until it was pure pavement. She must have spent 15 mins letting that hose run. Her car looked brand new by the time she was done. The neighbors all called each other and watched her and laughed.

the mayor should've assigned parking spots to each home owner then.. so when they do shovel out, no idiot can take the spot without the owner's permission.. Its bad enough when they get that much snow in the city without him interfering with what the community already does to handle the situation the best they can.. What he has done makes no sense at all..

That's pretty hard to do when there's another car parked right behind your truck.
Many of the houses in Boston were built long before every one had a car, back in the horse and buggy days. That's why parking cars is so difficult in those areas. Add a snow storm ind the street becomes a cluster fuck. Not only do the residents of the street fight for space, you have out of towners also trying to park any where they can find an open spot. It's a catchers catch can situation. If you're caught in the wrong spot at the wrong time, expect to find damage to your car when you come back. Or some one will come out of one of the houses with a baseball bat aiming to crack your skull open because you took his spot.

I live in Chicago and as someone who wakes up at 4:30am to go to work, I happily pay my $170 garage covered parking fee every month. You already have problems looking for parking in the city, then in winter every curbside space becomes a premium due to plowing, no parking when it snows 2 inches, the endless mounts and the dibs. If you want a car just work harder and garage it.

  • @IndependenceCityMotoring
    @IndependenceCityMotoring 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

These are public parking spots...no one "owns" a spot, even if they cleared the snow. If you want a private spot, go buy or rent a private space. "Saving" spots is inefficient because then there will always be open spots unable to be utilized until that person comes back. If you think about it, during a snow storm, everyone had to dig their car out of a spot so it evens out anyway.

I wish they would do this in my neighborhood. All my neighbors are assholes, they steal con edison cones and put them on a spot infront their house. There's these specific neighbors I hate most. They live one house away and have one of the few driveways on my block, but they dont use it ever, they have a big chruch van and 3 other cars and they asshole park with the church van so that later they can move it and park their other cars. If they just used their drive way there would easily be at least 5 more parking spots on the whole block, and that's not an exhagerration, they always take up extra space.

Salvador Hernandez I wish, my family hs bad luck though. Everything goes down on us. Someone reported us for loud noises construction noises and a city inspector came to see the house. We weren't doing anything noisy. Also we have to recycle where I live and my neighbors(don't know who specifically) would be lazy and leave there mixed trash and recycle on our sidewalk and we always got the ticket. I noticed everyone else half asses their recycle too. I can only guess someone wants us out of the neighborhood

You'd do 1 or all 4, maybe 2 if it's like a drive-by slashing on one side of the car, but 3 is just insane.

In my country, its the citys duty to clear the snow off the streets and transport it elsewhere to make sure the streets have enough parking spots.

The bottom line is this: If you're parking on the street, the space doesn't belong to you. I sympathize with the fact that you spent a lot of time clearing the space so you could get out, but that's only because you had to clear the space to get out anyway. Otherwise you could have just left the car parked there until the snow melted.

This is an old South Philly trick. North Jersey too (Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth, Hoboken, etc.). Remove those cones/lawnchairs at your own risk. Come back to find your car keyed up and your tires slashed.
Part of the problem is that when idiots dig out their cars, instead of taking the minimal extra effort to throw the snow over the sidewalk, they simply pile it up into mounds on the street and make more parking spots unavailable.

    • @luciusmaximussd

Homeowners and businesses can get cited for not clearing the sidewalks directly in front of their home/business. So, they just throw it back on the curb/street.

I live in WI, & in my city, it’s illegal to park on the street overnight from Nov-April. They also have parking lots downtown, for residents who live above the stores on the main downtown street.

Hey, if you break your back shoveling a ton of snow in front of your house for two hours, then you deserve to be able to park there *IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE* as long as there is snow on the ground! Some people just clean their car off and shovel just enough to get their car out and then take their neighbors nice clean spot when then get back home...leaving their neighbor no place to park! And then sometimes, you get one snowstorm after another and you can dig out for days, however long it last for, *YOU DESERVE THAT SPOT*

@@oliasofsunhillow7116 If it is on a public street it cannot be reserved for one car. Unless the car owner makes provision for a reserved space as what happens in some gated private developments then this system is nonsense.

If you don't like the snow, move out of boston. I don't care if you did dig out your car, the snow is something you put up with living in the city of boston. So if every neighbor dung out their own car then every person is entitled to every spot because every cleaned out at least one spot. People need to act more mature.
