It was up to the co pilot to call security because of two reasons the first is he's second in command and the second was because he was in the cockpit. We all have our breaking point and clearly she was at hers. It is likely she needed the money so badly she came to work on a day she couldn't perform her duties. She likely received a disturbing message from her ex or was provoked in another way that caused her to spiral out. That was an impulsive irrational move and if she got paid well enough she could have taken a mental health leave.

My uncle was a captain woth American. He had an emotional breakdown after getting home from a flight years ago. Threats of suicide, police called. Took him a year to get his license back and start flying again and only after psychiatric treatment and evals.

That actually happened to me and my brother, we were 7 and 5, on a flight to Italy, we cried for the longest time because we were scared of heights and of the plane falling and crashing, the flight attendants tried to calm us down and we ended up in the pilots room, there were 2 pilots, they handed us cookies and explained us a bit about how they don't always have to fly the plane because it'd automatic, a pretty fun experience.

No one handled the situation when a leader was not in the position to lead. She should have been stood down earlier and not allowed to continue to make it worse.
As a flight attendant, I would contact the company and they would have her removed within minutes either by medics or law enforcement. The fact that the flight crew didn’t step in is wild.

My best friend is a commercial pilot and he took 4 months off because he said he felt " sad and disconnected from people" he took advantage of the mental health services his employer offers and once he was back to normal he went back to work. He showed integrity, selflessness. He is how all pilots and anyone that is responsible for people.
That how it should be in the best of worlds. Sometimes things don't work like that though. Things build up, and just like you break a bone the mind just snaps. It happens! You can heal again, but you need help! Good that there were health serivces avilable for your friend and good on him for getting help! Wishing him and you all the best!

That actually happened to me and my brother, we were 7 and 5, on a flight to Italy, we cried for the longest time because we were scared of heights and of the plane falling and crashing, the flight attendants tried to calm us down and we ended up in the pilots room, there were 2 pilots, they handed us cookies and explained us a bit about how they don't always have to fly the plane because it'd automatic, a pretty fun experience.

The Pilot should never have been allowed to board in the first place. Being out of uniform was a big hint that things were not going well for her. Right decision to stand her down. Hope she gets the help she needs, just dont bring your passengers safety into the equation.

As a flight attendant, I would contact the company and they would have her removed within minutes either by medics or law enforcement. The fact that the flight crew didn’t step in is wild.
Corporate cover up. Thats why they didnt do anything. The flight attendants themselves would have gotten fired and the pilot would have stayed on.

My best friend is a commercial pilot and he took 4 months off because he said he felt " sad and disconnected from people" he took advantage of the mental health services his employer offers and once he was back to normal he went back to work. He showed integrity, selflessness. He is how all pilots and anyone that is responsible for people.
That how it should be in the best of worlds.
Sometimes things don't work like that though. Things build up, and just like you break a bone the mind just snaps. It happens!
You can heal again, but you need help! Good that there were health serivces avilable for your friend and good on him for getting help!

A breakdown is a breakdown and don't take this seriously of her. She loves her men and so respect that she's having a breakdown regardless of the fact that she shouldn't fly a plane in that state of mind.
But people LOOOOVE to take every chance to spew out horrible things at someone whenever the chance is there to grab on.
Nobody know's anything about her, what if she's a great human being doing great things on earth?
