Shortly after we got married, I was shipped out for Desert Storm. In my first package from home that finally reached me, she had made me a mix tape and this was the first song. I cried my eyes out. We held out the long distance a military separation so we are going into our 32 anniversary this June and I still hold her every day.

  • @Shrykespeare
    @Shrykespeare 2 ปีที่แล้ว +398

Richard Marx (yes, that is his real name) owned the airwaves in the late 80s and early 90s. His first SEVEN singles all hit the Top 5, including three #1s. This was one of them. Some of his other big airplay hits were "Hold On to the Nights", "Endless Summer Nights", "Satisfied", "Don't Mean Nothing", "Should've Known Better", and "Angelia". "Hazard" is another great one, and tells a great story. He also collaborated with the legendary Luther Vandross on "Dance With My Father", for which he won a Grammy. Believe it or not, he also duetted with Heart in 2013 on the song "All Through the Night". Thanks for reacting! Love everything 80s!

My favorite of his is 'Hold On To The Nights'. It'd be awesome if it made it to your channel someday! Love all of your reactions! Even the ones that Jay says "It was eh... ok. Richard, at the time was in a very serious relationship with “actress/singer/dancer” Cynthia Rhodes (she was in the Toto Rosanna video as well as Staying Alive with John Travolta and Dirty Dancing with Swayze along with many other movies). Cynthia was doing a film in Africa while Richard was in L.A. He wrote her this song and sent it to her. It was nothing more than a personal love song from him to her. She played it cried with joy and played it for her girlfriend. Upon coming home it got around & many suggested that Richard put it on a record. He constantly said “NO” it was nothing more than just a love song for her. Well, he said “fine” thinking nothing would come of it and evidently it did. It went to #1 on the “Hot 100 billboard chart”.

If you listen to Lionel Ritchie's song "You Are", you will hear him singing backup which was one of his first things he did. He wrote this song "Right Here Waiting" for his then wife Cynthia Rhodes (Dirty Dancing, Staying Alive). He's got so many great songs to choose from, you will enjoy discovering all those gems. I've always been a fan from his first hit "Don't Mean Nothing" until today. Enjoy the ride!

Notice that both the guitar solo and the main piano riff are simply restatements of the chorus melody. It's so simple and beautiful that it doesn't need anything else.
For a more upbeat Richard Marx, check out "Don't Mean Nothing."

    “Hold onto the nights”
“Endless summer nights” “Should’ve known better”
“Now and Forever” He’s a hit maker for sure, but these should be the next 4 songs from him. In any order. All fantastically written songs. And if you’re looking for a B-Side my absolute fav is called “Until I Find You Again”. That is such a beautiful song. Richard Marx is THE guy that can not only write one hell of a love song but can sing the hell out of it too. Btw he wrote “This I Promise You” sang by *NSYNC which also was a big hit love song.

This was a number 1 worldwide hit. It was played all the time. I picture getting ready for work with the radio on (we did that in the 80's) and hearing this beauty every morning. He sings with unbelievable skills, but also an open heart. He is touring this year, and his most recent album came out in 2020. He sounds fantastic. Great pick.

🇬🇧 I used to have an obsession with a song by Richard Marx called
    HAZARD
It was a story song but apart from intriguing lyrics
    The song has unusual musical
Phases & changes & i personally found it a hard song to sing, tricky.
But from the very 1st hearing of
    HAZARD I was hooked
I kept playing it all the time & it gave me goosebumps
Still today, whenever i play it the haunting bittersweet melody &
The way Richard Marx sings it ,
It never fails to give me shivers
I guarantee once you hear this you will replay it until the haunting sounds echo through your mind.
Thanks for your intelligent opinions & the fact that you dont keep stopping the music to witter on & on like some reaction plays
    Peace
    🇬🇧👧

When I was in Jr High this song was everywhere. One day we all got called into the auditorium for something, but us being teens everyone was chatting standing around. The teacher at the front was trying to get everyone to sit with no success. All of a sudden one of my friends Tammy went up to the piano by the stage and started playing the piano opening. It was like a wave in the auditorium of kids going quiet to pay attention to this song. Everyone moved to their seats in awe. My friend was shy, and she was beet red in the face from the attention and sat down too. The teacher thanked her and started the meeting. A moment as you can see I've never forgotten:)
