Ripley gets SO MANY absolutely badass moments in this movie. When she takes the controls of the car over Gorman's useless screams of protest to save the marines I get chills every time. She drives straight into her personal nightmare to save people she barely knows. That's how AWESOME Ripley is.
BTW, Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed by an Alien, a Predator, and a Terminator. This movie, the beginning of the first Terminator movie, and Predator 2. :-)
ALIEN and ALIENS were designed as different movies. Before ALIEN, first contact was done by either scientists with no common sense, or by military people with itchy trigger fingers. Ridley Scott's take was putting an alien contact in the hands of ordinary people - basically workers on an interstellar oil rig / refinery, with no military expertise, limited scientific capability, and only what weapons they could improvise. So, yes, the crew of the Nostromo were punching out of their weight class. ALIENS was more of an action/adventure movie, with soldiers who were competent at their individual jobs, and particularly so at their collective job of creating mayhem... but now were badly outnumbered. I loved how the Marines first looked at her as a "useless civilian," then saw she was willing to pull her weight with the power loader and upgraded her to "someone who gets it," and then finally after she bailed them out of the reactor as "one of us."

The reason she can't ask "Mother" is because MU/TH/ER was the mainframe onboard the Nostromo. When the ship blew up, "Mother's stank ass" got BLOWN AWAY. As for them not finding her for 57 years... the shuttle wasn't broadcasting an emergency beacon (or the beacon ran out of power). And even if you _are_ broadcasting a distress signal, someone would have to be listening at the right frequency, in the right direction, at the right time. Space is _huge._ Remember the Voyager 1 probe? It's currently flying at 17 kilometers per second (that's 38 _thousand_ miles per hour!) ... and if it was pointed in the right direction (which it isn't), it would _still_ take 60,000 YEARS to get to Proxima Centauri. To put that in perspective, Proxima Centauri is only 4.24 light years away. LV-426 is 39 light years away (9 times further away than Proxima Centauri). Radio waves travel at light speed. So even if the shuttle _was_ broadcasting an emergency beacon, it would've been 39 years before anyone on Earth could've heard her. BUT! Unless you are using a very narrow signal, for every doubling of distance, the radio signal gets four times weaker. 2 light years away from the shuttle, the emergency beacon would be 4 times weaker. 4 light years away from the shuttle, the beacon would be 16 times weaker. 8 light years away from the shuttle, the beacon would be 64 times weaker. So, to add some perspective: Our first radio broadcast was in 1920. We've been broadcasting TV and radio into space for over 100 years. That means that (in 2022), the signal would've travelled 102 light years, right? BUT, thanks to signal attenuation, with the technology we have today, if you're more than about 30 light years away... you couldn't tell the difference between radio signals and BACKGROUND NOISE. Simply put, an emergency radio beacon in deep space is just about useless with today's technology. Of course, _Alien_ takes place 99 years from now, and _Aliens_ takes place about 156 years from now, so technology would've improved by then. Even so, it'd still be like trying to find a specific needle in a needle stack.
ripley's backstory re the relationship to newt ... when she left on the original salvage mission, she had a young daughter left behind... who died at age 67 (iirc) while ripley was floating the universe.. alien/aliens are two of the best movies ever... not just scifi movies.. but all movies.

The reason they had no weapons in the first movie, was because it was a commercial flight. They were workers coming back with materials. In the 80s came so much movies out with aliens and soldiers fighting them, James Cameron wanted to show how "normal" people would react. In my opinion a masterpiece. The only problem i have, is that no one follows what Ripley had to say. What was common sense. I love your CoReactors ;)
Me personally, I think the corporation left Ripely out there on purpose thinking she would perish but since she didn't they decided to send Burke out there to get her. My favorite James Cameron is “The Abyss “- is visually stunning so like Avatar by Cameron (most like Avatar it’s majestic and unreal, I just love the ocean) it’s best vises on a larger screen when possible
You should check out some of James Cameron's other movies. The Abyss is about an underwater oil drill team that get entangled in a sci-fi mystery when they are sent to the wreckage of a nuclear submarine that sunk under mysterious circumstances nearby. True Lies is about a loving husband who hides the fact that he's a superspy from his mousy wife and must stop a terrorist plot to smuggle a nuke into the US via the Florida Keys. It's a good combo of action and comedy.
Paul Riser took his Mother to see this movie when it came out. His character was so despicable that she cheered when her son died onscreen. :-)
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cemented Sigourney as the 1st female action hero. A classic. One of the best sequels ever made. 👍

Another great reaction. Love the pups, joining you.
I appreciate that and thank you for showing my babies some love
So, so great,..first.of all,..cannot believe your dog was under the cover,..I saw the blanket start to move and I was like watch out!,.but then he poked his head out,..so cute,..I have never seen a dog stay under the cover like that,..glad you enjoyed the movie,..so enjoyed watching you,..and yess queen,..miss 3 mouths,..was quite nasty,..that egg canal,..eww,..when we first saw this at theater,..you could hear a pin drop,..nobody breathed, I swear,..we were enthralled,..cause I hadn't even thought of a queen,..you know,..was amazing,..and yeah Ripley is a badass,..but lets give props to Vasquez and Farrow the pilot,..and of the little girl Newt,..you cracked me up,.."bitch I've had a bad week",..when Ripley was trying to clean her up,..lucky her hair hadn't turned white,..sometimes people's hair turn white from extreme stress, fear,..lol,..do keep going,.JL,..if you haven't, try the Thing,..and The Hidden,..the latter is not as gory, gory as the first,..more action, humor,..Godspeed, Peace ✌
Three of the actors from this also did an excellent job in Near Dark, a vampire movie set in the modern American west.
Directed by James Cameron's ex-wife, btw...who later beat him out for an Oscar. Girl-power!!!
Got you!
Great reaction! Love your puppies too!
I m glad your first watching was the directors cut
I'd hate to be the technician who has to put Bishop back together.
My favorite James Cameron is
“The Abyss “- is visually stunning so like Avatar by Cameron (most like Avatar it’s majestic and unreal, I just love the ocean) it’s best vises on a larger screen when possible
I’m have to check it out
Funniest commentary ever!😄😄😉
Much appreciated! Hope you enjoy the rest of the library too.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video
I love how your dogs try to comfort you when your scared or jump they are so sweet and adorable.
I think we have that on the list
its the battle of the mothers!
I'm about 80% positive Ripley and Newt will live long and very happy lives.
🤣🤣🤣
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😢
OK, now I’m gonna have to subscribe! Your reactions are hilarious and you have dogs… Need I say more? It’s all about the dogs!
Definitely all about the dogs. LoL
Welcome to the family!
Lol welcome to the family and most people are here for the dogs
I liked and subscribed based on this. I'm glad that you liked it in spite of how stressful parts of it were.
Thanks so much!
Great film score by the late film composer, James Horner.
The original release skipped over the entire part that showed the colonists. It skipped right to contact being lost. We meet Newt, but no one else.
