So glad you guys watched the SPECIAL EDITION VERSION of ALIENS.The first two movies in this franchise are the best. It’s up to you to make up your minds on the rest.🤔
I read that when Paul Reiser (Burke) went to the premiere of the movie, he took his mother with him. He was concerned how his mom would handle his death scene in the movie. When the door opened and the alien was standing there, the entire audience cheered. Paul looked at his mom and she was standing and cheering with everyone else.
This is hysterical xD Also, Paul Reiser is a comedian, so him playing the ultimate asshole in the movie is set as a big surprise for the contemporary audience.

@@Fedorchik1536 I was about to say that. And IRL he is such a nice guy. i remember that I loved his show with Helen Hunt, Mad About You.
Burke is such a memorable villain that a big reason Paul Reiser was cast in "Stranger Things" was because viewers would see him and think, "This guy was Burke, don't trust him" (and then of course, they pull the twist by making his character a decent guy).
Saw this in a huge cinema and when Ripley delivers the line "get away from her you b****" the roar from the audience was deafening. It was such an awesome experience.
I always wondered what it would have been like seeing Ripley deliver that line in a cinema as it's one of my favourite moments from any film. Glad to hear you had the exact experience I wished for. 😊
Totally! People went nuts every time I saw it in the theater in 1986, which was four or five times. Another movie where people were going crazy, screaming and yelling and cheering and jumping up out of their seats: “Misery.” That movie and “Aliens” are two of my favorite movie going experiences ever.
Such a great reaction. It's beyond rare to find reactors who offer intelligible commentary without coming off as pretentious or cynical. Very well balanced commentary and both a voice for radio. Audio balancing was near-perfect. No excessive editing either. This movie remains my all-time favourite. Your commentary did it a lot justice. Equally impressed with the amount of care/diligence taken for both reactors and editor. A reaction by authentic people. Very refreshing.
@@OfficialMediaKnights Late to the party, but I want to add that you guys always seem to genuinely go into a movie intent on enjoying it, and watching it as a movie without too many preconceptions. I've seen some reactors who go into a movie expecting it to be bad, and make fun of it from the get go, but I much prefer it when people just watch the movie, and not immediately criticise or mock it. Especially if it's a movie that wasn't intended as a funny or bad movie, and wasn't seen that way when it came out. I don't need everyone to love every movie, not every movie is for every person, but for a reaction channel, going into it with an open mind is kind of important in my opinion, and you guys do that, at least the videos I've seen. 😊
fun fact: the late great bill paxton, the guy who played hudson, has the distinction of being the only actor in history to have been killed by a alien, a predator, and a terminator.
@@dbel1980 when did Lance get killed by an alien? He's an android and just disabled a bit, not "killed", because he's shown in a stasis pod at the end of Aliens. I'm guessing we're assuming he was killed by a terminator in the first movie since he was a cop in the station when it got shot up.
Sergeant Apone was actually a real sergeant....all the actors playing Marines trained together except for Gorman, Burke, and Ripley so they would bond. I love this movie!
Made over 35 years, this film STILL holds up against any film today. One of (if not THE) greatest sci-fi monster film of all time. Cameron delivers an absolute masterclass in filmmaking. Still think its his best work.
@@GeminiWoodsthere are two types of movies. Ones made by James Cameron and the one that aren't. These two movies still are benchmarks of masterclass filmmaking.
I also like how, when they are having the discussion about the alien life-cycle, it's Hudson who thinks of the idea the Xenomorphs have a Queen and a hive structure
@@gambar Sonic Harpooning Acoustic Reactive Projectile. I know that was meant as a joke, but yes that got turned into an actual weapon in the USCMC and is a penetrating impact/proximity fuse grenade.
@@DemitriVladMaximov it's quite common for industries (especially military) to find inspiration in sci-fi concepts... and in this case it sounds like fun :))
Wow, I just commented this. With Aliens I was just more along for the ride (James Cameron films feel like elegant thrill rides), but with Predator I was shocked and I seriously didn’t know if ANYONE would survive in that film (including Arnold).
Ironically, they watched the Special Edition which spoils that tension building by having the Facehugger reveal so early. The Special Edition is great for fans, but the theatrical cut is the superior version for a first time viewer. The audience experiences the movie at the same rate as the protagonists.
@@theveteransergeant - I agree. But, at least it was just a facehugger early on, not a full-on xenomorph. The moment the one on the wall behind Vasquez starts to move, and the audience realizes JUST how closely surrounded they are… still very impactful, even with the facehugger scene early on.
@@theveteransergeant100% agree. In the theatrical cut there’s a mystery as to the fate of the colonists right up until the brutal cocoon reveal; this version undercuts that mystery and the tension that comes with it. From my experience, Directors Cuts only work when excessive studio interference caused cuts that were detrimental to the director’s vision. More often than not, however, cuts that were made were done because of pacing issues and are generally proven to have been correct decisions.
@@theveteransergeant yes, there is a reason there are professional editors. all of the theatrical cuts of cameron's movies are superior in the way you described. director's cuts are needlessly indulgent.
One of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made! Nominated for 7 Oscars: Best Actress Sigourney Weaver Best Original Score, James Horner Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Film Editing, Ray Lovejoy Best Production Design, Peter Lamont Best Visual Effects, Stan Winston, John Richardson, Robert Skotak and Dennis Skotak. It won Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Mixing. It was a box office and critical success, making $193 million dollars ($403 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget.
That is the thing though. The younger generations doesnt have any good comparissons to take inspirations from since all strong female leads for them have been flawless and op from the start and now they are writers who writes the same bs as them. Its sad really, it makes everything unwatchable now for us who grew up with great movies with great writing.
When I saw this in the cinema the first time, at the end Bishop says "not bad for a human" and someone in the cinema yells out "not half bad yourself Bishop". Hilarious.
The person portraying Amanda Ripley (Ripley's daughter) in the photograph is the actress Elizabeth Inglis, Sigourney Weaver's mom. She was also used as the basis for Amanda Ripley's face in the game "Alien: Isolation".
18:30 The cast (except Michael Biehn; he was a late replacement for the actor originally cast as Hicks) did a 3 week boot camp in preparation for the film. Al Matthews (the actor playing Sgt. Apone) had been a Sergeant in the USMC, serving in Vietnam and receiving 13 decorations, including 2 Purple Hearts.
Biehn had already gone thru training tho for Terminator - I am sure if he had needed it, Cameron would have MADE SURE that he got it. Probably why he took Biehn in the first place to replace Remar.
you know that scene where the marines wake up? you know why they look like they are good old friends? is because that scene was the last scene to be recorded, they decided to record it last because they wanted the entire crew to aready have been trough a long period together, so that they were aready friends, so when that scene of them waking up starts, the actors are friends as well, that is why their chimestry is so great
Sigourney Weaver received an Academy Award nomination for this role. In a science fiction film. And a sequel. It was such a unique honor that still holds, and completely awesome, as Sigourney's portrayal, and well-deserved.
@@MadCowCrazy If you pretend the first and second movie never happened, the third is a big pile of crap. I forget where I was going with this... except the 3rd one was dogsh-t lol.
Supposedly, the script was originally titled "Mother". James Cameron says that he wrote scripts for fun and came up with an idea for space marines marooned on a desert planet with hive-like space bugs. The title "Mother" was in reference to a human mother who lost her child against the space bug "mother" as you point out. Supposedly, when Cameron was offered the sequel to Alien, he was asked if he had any ideas to which Cameron said, "I have a few" pulled out the script for "Mother" changed the names and reconfigured the main character to be Ripley and turned it in.
The child who played Newt wasn’t an actress. Her family were just walking through Heathrow airport and someone associated with the film heard her scream and chose to cast her. It’s the only role she ever accepted. ( I worked with her father and brother for 16 years. Great people to know.
People who only ever have one film role are fascinating to me. Another one is also from this franchise: Bolaji Badejo, who played the alien in the first movie. Another is Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
@lucassmith3790 i mean, she's no Ariana Richards, but she barely had any line anyway. She was more of a catalyst for Ripley than anything else, and I'm fine with it.
Also the first part of resolution in the aliens score wasn’t used in the aliens film. It was used in Die Hard when terrorist Karl emerges from the Nakatomi building after his apparent death and attempts to kill John McClane.
James Horner was the composer, he was also nominated for an Oscar for Aliens. He also did the music for Start Trek2: Wrath of Khan, which is one of my favorite movie scores. From his wiki: "The climax of Bishop's Countdown, from his score for Aliens, ranks as the 5th most commonly used soundtrack cue in trailers.' th-cam.com/video/aICzV6QS9wA/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HDFilmTributes
You will be happy to know Sigourney Weaver was nominated for an Oscar for best actress for Aliens. It was the first time an actress was nominated for a SciFi/Action film and a testament to how she dominated the film. I saw Aliens three times in the theater back in 1986 still one of my favorite films.
Saw this in the theater at 14. Packed house. The atmosphere in that theater can never be topped. When the door lifts up and she delivers that iconic line, the entire crowd went berserk. Cheering, cursing, pumping fists in the air…was just incredible. Will never forget it. Great reaction 😊 👍🏼
saw this in the theatre with my entire high school football team, Vasquez was such a favorite and made such an impression that the defensive line changed their huddle break to 'Let's Rock!'
She's basically a giant marionet puppet, held up by a rig above the set, with rods to move her arms, legs and tail, the head is a remote control animatronic and there are two guys inside of her to operate her little secondary arms
Fun fact: When Hudson says yea right when she heard alien she thought illegal alien and signed up. That was an inside joke for the actress who played Vasquez when she auditioned thought it was a documentary about immigrants. She showed up in a dress and makeup only to see everyone else in military style clothing. Apparently the invite didn’t specify. She asked to come back the next and she did with a haircut and using that Latina accent and well Vasquez was born.
The nest-scene is my favourite scene in the whole movie. It communicates an extraordinary amount, with zero words, with Ripley basically bargaining for her and Newts safe passage out of there, and the alien queen actually agreeing to let her go... Ripleys head tilt as the egg opens is just a fantastic insert. The only ones that can't be trusted to honor an agreement are the babies, who operate on pure instinct, and that head tilt just says "Well, shit...", and after that all bets are off!
I was 19 when I saw this in a theater in 1986. I was completely physically, mentally, and emotionally drained when it was over. I don't think I moved for 10 minutes after the film ended. Such a testament to Cameron and everyone else involved in the film. Pulling in an audience to that degree is an extraordinary accomplishment. Quite simply one of the best films, regardless of genre, ever made. Great reaction as always guys!
This and Terminator 2 are dystopian sci-fi action master pieces. James Cameron and his team were very talented. Setting up the measure for practical effects in years to come; until The Matrix came out in 1999 which set the foot into the digital age.
I think Cameron's intention was to honor what the first movie did so brilliantly by not trying to imitate and top it, but to show a whole new angle on this franchise and add meaningfully to its lore, which he did with equal brilliance.
She wasn't told why no guns. She was more concerned with her own safety she didn't know she was putting herself and others in more danger by using the gun.
I loved Vasquez. My eternal "What If..." is how she and Ripley would've bonded if both had survived through the entire movie, including the encounter with the queen.
i love the ripley, hicks and newt relationship so great - plus, Gorman redeeming himself, by helping Velasquez, Hudson with his antics and Burke just brilliant
I LOVE this movie. The practical effects really help to completely immerse you in the story and make you feel like you are totally THERE with the characters. I miss this type of movie making!
Hey guys 👋 I was petrified and mesmerized as a kid watching this. That Queen Alien had my jaw on the floor when she came on the screen. The fact that she backed away the other aliens from attacking, showed there was intelligence there and not just an all out killing machine. The whole movie was edge of ur seat stuff. Can't believe it's 40yrs old now and still holds up to this day. So glad u guys reacted to this masterpiece ❤️
Honestly the fact that they teased a certain level of intelligence had us in absolute awe. This movie went big and they stuck the landing. That’s the way to do it 👏 thank you for watching this with us! ❤️
@@miller-joel fun fact: Born in 1982, I watched Alien when I was 12 years old on Super VHS. Shortly after I watched Aliens on TV and was addicted to it. Since I was a drawer deeply invested into art in my youth, I was and still am a huge H.R.GIGER and Royo fan. H.R.GIGER is the creator of this Xenomorphs and the complete design language around these aliens. I recorded the movie on Tape for my Walkman and Listened to the movie on boring nights. I was able to recall every single spoken word of this movie. It did not harm me in any way, it made me become a die-hard-fan of this franchise. 😅
once again Ripley is the most badass protagonist around ... I love how they upped the ante even more in this one and she just dominates from start to finish =)
I was looking for someone to comment on this. They said "defence mechanism", like he fell asleep out of fear/chock from the drop. But it's quite the opposite. Hicks sleeping is, just like you said, common military "strategy", to get some shut eye any chance you're given, and it also shows how much experience he has of these things (in comparison to the scared-shitless Gorman). He is able to sleep in the chaos, the noise and the shaking - because he's done it so many time before.
There's a great documentary on the making of Aliens called Superior Firepower. It was on the DVD release a few years back but it's up on TH-cam now. It really digs into the practical effects and filming of the movie, you'd love it.
Yeah,a very good documentary too,I 've watched it countless times.TOO bad Cameron doesn't do regular films any more,he's immersed completely with the cap-motion stuff.
Thanks for watching the extended version! Shame they never made any more Aliens movies, but at least it ended beautifully. Definitely no other installments in the franchise that could ruin this.
Jokes aside, yeah that franchise went down hard. Alien 3 is a crap film (unceremoniously kills of Newt and Hicks off screen, never explains how and why Ripley got an Alien in her and much more). To its defense? The set design was on point (creepy, industrial, forbiding, apocolyptic atmosphere), and production trouble was so bad it's actually a testament to the Director's talent (same guy who did Seven and Fight Club). A testement in the fact they managed to get anything out at all. Still a crap film though...though not near as bad as Weadon's wank fest, nor Ridley Scott's prequels (I swear those 2 films are made by a AI script bot that was exposed to too many euphoric atheist reddit threads). If you want a GOOD Alien 3? Darkhorse published the unused William Gibson (father of the Cyberpunk genre) script as a comic, and they latter made that into an audio drama. In the Audio Drama Lance Henrickson and Michael Bien both represent their roles.
I went to an HR Giger exibition when I was young (around the 2000s) and they had a lifesize Alien Queen mock-up. It was mind-blowing. The design of the Alien and the Queen are absolutely iconic.
Don't remember the exact date, but the Smithsonian Museum had the actual Alien Queen from the movie. It didn't move, but people could stand next to it to be in awe of its size and design.
Everything about this film was perfection! The casting, the acting, the directing, the visual effects, the sound, the art direction, the perfect balance of tension, action, and horror! Not to mention that James Horner's epic score was the cherry on top that made this movie LEGENDARY!!
I was 14 when this came out. It's the only time I've ever witnessed a packed theatre crowd leap from their seats with cheers and applause when Ripley delivered that famous line near the end. Everyone stood for the remainder of the movie.
It's weird because you're the only person I've seen even bring it up. Please stop forcing politics into fun conversations before you squeeze the life out of everything. @@smoqify
When Ripley tells Burke "Allright, I'm in", she had to rip the card out as fast as possible so she wouldn't give herself time to change her mind... The amount of fear she was facing in that moment must have been overwhelming.
@@kerrissedai6857 of course. This is exactly why Ripley is one of the strongest female characters in movie history. She developed, grew tougher, faced her worst fears. "Writers" nowadays forget about this detail and skip straight to "she's the best because.. because she just is" and we end up with garbage like Batwoman, Rey or She-hulk...
Dont know if its my Nr 1 movie, but its definetely in my Top 3 Action movies of all time. When i get my new big a** 4k TV, Alien 2 will be one of the first movies i will watch and enjoy.

Thank you for being the only reaction channel to notice the mastery on display in the shot at 58:12. It might be the best practical effects shot I have ever seen next to the trench dive on the Death Star.
Bishop is the real MVP of this story. He's fast, capable, honest, and loyal, and he really was the only one qualified to remote pilot the ship down to the surface.
The sad thing is, in the unmade Alien 3 by William Gibson (The God of Cyberpunk), Bishop was going to be an even bigger MVP. Instead, he gets smashed off screen and literally tossed on a trash heap
HR Giger was the designer of the alien and the sets for the original alien movie. His artwork is unreal. He painted the album cover for Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Brain Salad Surgery".
This solidified Sigourney Weaver as one of the most badass women in Horror/Sci-Fi history. Jennette Goldstein (Vasquez) playing one of the heavy weapons specialists was a close second.
I heard the mecha loader exoskeleton was so dope, that several construction companies thought they are real and asked the film makers where they can buy them as well.
Haha that is awesome man! I myself would’ve bought one if they were real. Carry groceries? Not a problem. A car parked next to mine inside my line making it impossible to get into my vehicle? Worry not, this loader is about to do all the work 😂

The situation with the woman and the chest burster is sadder than what you see. The fact that she is still alive when they get there means she lasted a long time like Newt, and except for bad luck, she almost could have survived. Don't know if she and Newt teamed up at all, though. Even sadder if they did.
Honestly, I always held out hope that Hudson somehow survived, since we never saw him die like the others. Sure, there was the nuke, but maybe he fell into the sewers and was carried off, or was deep enough to survive. He really changed over the course of the film and deserved to survive the most.
I am really glad that you mentioned that its not about the shock effect, but about clever writing. Ripley was very well written, very well executed by Weaver, but the whole cast made a really good job. To this day, it is still creepy and exciting. For me, its one of the absolute best sequels. I think its a masterpiece of a movie.
"How have they not built a Alien theme attraction already" They did in London. Pepsi-Max Theatre. It was called "Alien War". It was opened by Sigourney Weaver herself, as well as Lance Henriksen and a Couple of Alien 3 actors ... and they tried it out... they said they was terrified. It featured Marines evacuating civilians through a invested colony. It had people in Xenomorph suits and holograms. I went there as a teenager and was traumatised... the acting was on point and the effects were amazing... i was scared out of my skin. I also tripped at the end of the tour and fell behind... so much so that the actors in Xenomorph suits had to improvise and started grabbing us and pulling us back into the "Hive"... i ran out crying my eyes off. Best experience ever... especially since i have always been a fan of the franchise. Also Alien 3 is worth a watch. It's not as good as 1 or 2 and is depressing and controversial. But it's gory, Ripley is a baddass and is the true end to the saga.
Ahh man! That sounds like an amazing experience! I (Ari) am a theme park and ride enthusiast! I would’ve loved to go check that out. Thank you for sharing! 😃
@@OfficialMediaKnights Unfortunately they sold it off to a third party of which did a insurance scam, getting the place closed down. Unfortunately, i think it was one of those things that will never be the same. There are quite a few documentaries about it here on TH-cam should you want to check it out, but i have watched them... and it does no justice to the real experience. @rickking228 Well, there is a community that thinks the main storyline ended already in Aliens and the cancelled movie by Neill Blomkamp would have been the legit ending.
There are very few movies I regret not seeing in the theaters when first released, and this is one of them. As it was amazing at home, I can only imagine how killer it would have been with the full movie theater experience. While this movie started at a slow burn, once it got going, it was just EPIC. A+
The way they build up the tension is phenomenal! It truly is a rollercoaster with a slow start rising upwards right before they unleash absolute chaos!
I saw Aliens three times in the theater in 1986. Big moment for me was Bishop rescuing Ripley and Newt from the Alien queen. Seeing the ship rise behind them filling the screen with James Horner's pounding score playing over the scene.
Had to copy paste my comment from above. Yeah, I feel very lucky to have had that experience. Saw this in the theater at 14. Packed house. The atmosphere in that theater can never be topped. When the door lifts up and she delivers that iconic line, the entire crowd went berserk. Cheering, cursing, pumping fists in the air…was just incredible. Will never forget it.
I saw it when it came out but there was so much missing that I'm just discovering in the director's cut! Especially the Colonists alive? Trekking into the OG alien ship? Never saw that until now!
One of those films you wish you could wipe from your memory and watch it again fresh. The closest thing is watching people like yourselves watch it for the first time! So thank you. Absolute masterclass in scriptwriting and characterisation. In so many movies, the minor characters aren't memorable. In this one, they really are. Even if they only have 4 lines, they made them memorable. in terms of Ripley, I think she's the ultimate hero and one of the best characters ever created
SOOO glad you guys watched the extended version! There was a mixup when this released in Theaters. Where I grew up in AZ we got this version, but when it came out on VHS they cut nearly 35 minutes out. All the stuff about Ripley's daughter, how they found the alien ship and that Newt's father was the 1st one face hugged, the extended hype speech by Hudson, the listing of what was left when the ship crashed and the scenes with the autocannons were all gone! We were PISSED...and the worst thing was, people who saw the 'theatrical cut' thought we were crazy!!

I remember watching this secretly on my own when I was 12. I already thought it was the best action movie when Ripley was going to search for Newt. Boy, my mind was blown when it delivered two more great sequences.
In the script, James Cameron describes the Alien Queen as ‘horror incarnate’, which is pretty damn fitting. Also that Ripley realizes that she must have passed underneath it at some point and if she had looked up she probably wouldn’t have the nerve to go on.
What a classic of a film. You are now at a crossroads.....There is a lot more to explore with the Alien series, but many fans agree that much like the Terminator series, nothing exist beyond this point. This video was absolutely brilliant!! I watched Aliens, which is my favourite ever film, in the cinema way back in 86 as a teenager, and I saw it 6 times within a couple of months, and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric! Every single show was sold out and this is what we’re missing today, that feeling of togetherness with everyone watching a film instead of streaming it! a masterclass in film making,it perfectly builds the tension while balancing action ,horror and character development, you actually care about the characters and when one dies it hits hard, and the brilliant mother daughter development between Newt and Ripley makes for a great emotional connection between them and the audience. truly one of THE best films of the 1980's.
Fun Fact: @ 11:37 when Bishop does the knife trick on Bill Paxton, no one on set told Bill about it so when they do the scene, Bill's reaction is a legitamitely fearful one and was scared out of his mind
Thank you for reacting to the Director's Cut. The big difference is that none of the footage of the colony before the attack was in the original cut. None of Newt's family, none of the management, none of it. At least a good 10 minutes with a completely different storyline. Thanks for sharing your reaction!
I've been a Director's Cut stan since it was released (probably seriously upwards of 300 times, if not more) but watching the theatrical is still special. I think the flow of the whole cut is tighter and more intense, especially without the extra colony and sentry gun scenes. DC is the best but the theatrical cut is worth a rewatch.
@@chrisguthrie4099 Agree with the colony and sentry gun scenes, but cutting the part about Ripley's daughter was terrible. Unlike the colony and sentry gun, that was a major plot point. It only lasted a couple of minutes, so they could have squeezed that in. For those of you who are wondering why they had to cut the length: 1984 was in the era before multiplexes, so most theaters just had one screen. If the movie was long, that limited the number of times a movie could be played in a day and its profitability.
The genius of this film is that everyone who survives mid movie has a story arc. Ripley goes from traumatized to assertive, Hudson goes from bravado to coward to redeemed courage, the Leutenant goes from frightened to self sacrificing, Bishop goes from sus to hero, Burke goes from betrayer to come uppance, Hicks... well, Hicks is just Hicks
Theres 2 scenes thats are iconic to me. The first is the epic shot of the xenomorph raising up from the water to get newt. The other was the shot of the queen, completely cloaked in the darkness of that elevator. Epic shots
Another great reaction. You two rock. This is probably one of the best sequels ever. Fun fact from the "Behind The Scenes" on the DVD. All of the aliens in this film were portrayed by just six people in costumes. It was the way it was edited that gave the impression that there was, I would guess, hundreds. All quick cuts, if you noticed. Thanks for posting.
The Alien Queen's design was based on H. R. Giger's design for the Xenomorph, of course, but it was James Cameron who designed his own character the Queen (he's a pretty amazing designer), and the legendary Stan Winston who made the actual life-size Alien Queen puppet. Three puppeteers were inside that puppet, which also had to be held up by cables like the power loader.
Just a fyi Catrie Henn who plays newt became a teacher. Growing up she didn't have a chance to collect any posters or memorabilia from the movie. I personally collect movie posters and standes that the theater use. Back in the 90's I was able to get a 6 ft tall 3d stande that was huge. I put on eBay long ago to sell and Carrie bought it from me. She stated that she always wanted it but could never find it. I gave her a great deal on it knowing she really wanted it. My 15 minutes of fame. 😄

This is hysterical xD
Also, Paul Reiser is a comedian, so him playing the ultimate asshole in the movie is set as a big surprise for the contemporary audience.
😂🤣
When he watched it with his sister, she turned and punched him in the arm.
Saw this in a huge cinema and when Ripley delivers the line "get away from her you b****" the roar from the audience was deafening. It was such an awesome experience.
Same here, I totally remember the theater going crazy! We felt it, it was such a thriller. Nothing being made or released like this today. 80s rocks!
It's one reason I always get a huge kick out of being with/seeing someone watch this for the first time ^^
I always wondered what it would have been like seeing Ripley deliver that line in a cinema as it's one of my favourite moments from any film. Glad to hear you had the exact experience I wished for. 😊
And another scene that made the audience "roar" was when Ripley took control of that "Apc" vehicle and busted through that wall, wow!

I love how they manage to get THAT far into the movie before we actually see an actual xenomorph. Cameron is a master at building tension.
Biehn had already gone thru training tho for Terminator - I am sure if he had needed it, Cameron would have MADE SURE that he got it. Probably why he took Biehn in the first place to replace Remar.
Did the guy who played Apone train the actors? I'm curious

Ripley's 'Get away from her you...' is IMHO one of the greatest moments in cinema history... certainly one of the best mother and daughter moments.
It’s probably the best film about fictional aliens ever made too.

Definitely not the best child actor but still better than most.

This and Terminator 2 are dystopian sci-fi action master pieces. James Cameron and his team were very talented. Setting up the measure for practical effects in years to come; until The Matrix came out in 1999 which set the foot into the digital age.
I was 3. It's the first movie I ever saw in the theater but it stuck with me forever.
I think Cameron's intention was to honor what the first movie did so brilliantly by not trying to imitate and top it, but to show a whole new angle on this franchise and add meaningfully to its lore, which he did with equal brilliance.
Love how Vasquez immediately pulls out a spare battery for the smartguns. She don't care.
She wasn't told why no guns. She was more concerned with her own safety she didn't know she was putting herself and others in more danger by using the gun.
'Let's rock!' - Vasquez at the most badass
I loved Vasquez. My eternal "What If..." is how she and Ripley would've bonded if both had survived through the entire movie, including the encounter with the queen.

Hicks sleeping while the descent is funny, cause in the army you learn to sleep anywhere when you have even a couple of minutes.
Jokes aside, yeah that franchise went down hard. Alien 3 is a crap film (unceremoniously kills of Newt and Hicks off screen, never explains how and why Ripley got an Alien in her and much more). To its defense? Bishop is the real MVP of this story. He's fast, capable, honest, and loyal, and he really was the only one qualified to remote pilot the ship down to the surface.
The sad thing is, in the unmade Alien 3 by William Gibson (The God of Cyberpunk), Bishop was going to be an even bigger MVP. Instead, he gets smashed off screen and literally tossed on a trash heap
@@weldonwinIs there a script somewhere for this?
It was a good "android redemption arc" since the first movie's android was so evil.
@@pmarreck There's a comic adaptation and an Audiodrama on Audible, with Lance Henrickson voicing Bishop
@@weldonwin Wow!
A compliment to Paul Riser's acting, his own mother stood up and cheered when Burke got taken out.
HR Giger was the designer of the alien and the sets for the original alien movie. His artwork is unreal. He painted the album cover for Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Brain Salad Surgery".
One of the best James Horner's work, Bishop countdown still give me chills.
He’s an amazing composer and this did not disappoint! Added the soundtrack to my playlist 😄
RIP James Horner 🙏
This solidified Sigourney Weaver as one of the most badass women in Horror/Sci-Fi history. Jennette Goldstein (Vasquez) playing one of the heavy weapons specialists was a close second.
A great example of two very different directors helming a film within the same franchise and coming away with very different but both brilliant works.
1986 Special effects. The movie is 37 years old. Still beautiful. So much sci fi, Cameron is a genius.
Worry not, this loader is about to do all the work 😂
@@OfficialMediaKnights Someone actually built one. They couldn't make it walk properly, so they put it on treads. th-cam.com/video/i50CX9z51AM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5t6icGyQaBdsMUYD
This is it. You finished all the Aliens movies. Proceed no further.
There were more Aliens movies?
Yes, absolutely. The “others” were just really bad fever dreams while in stasis. 💯
Yeah, let's just leave it at that.
@@freeheeler00 ... that was the joke. They're so traumatic we've repressed the memories. Kind of like the rumor about the other Matrix movies.
Alien 3 would be good as a stand alone film, but we were so invested in Hicks and Newt too@@chriskalin8043
The situation with the woman and the chest burster is sadder than what you see. The fact that she is still alive when they get there means she lasted a long time like Newt, and except for bad luck, she almost could have survived. Don't know if she and Newt teamed up at all, though. Even sadder if they did.
This was the perfect ending for Ripley/Newt/Hicks/Bishop. This is where the story ends for me. Alien 3 and beyond is just a what-if in my mind haha.
Alien 3 is retconned in my mind. As bad as some say the game Colonial Marines was, i deem it an acceptable retcon for how shit the third movie was.
Alien 3 was just a mess from the very beginning.
Honestly, I always held out hope that Hudson somehow survived, since we never saw him die like the others. Sure, there was the nuke, but maybe he fell into the sewers and was carried off, or was deep enough to survive. He really changed over the course of the film and deserved to survive the most.
ALIEN 3 IS JUST A DREAM ALIEN 5 WAS SUPOSE TO BRING HICK NEWT BACK WITH BISHOP BUT NEVER HAPPENED
Aliens 3 is crap. Ugly visuals, horrible storyline, and wretched characters. Don't waste your time. You will be disappointed.
"How have they not built a Alien theme attraction already"
They did in London.
They tried to revive it a couple of times around the country but it lost the Aliens licence and was not the same.
If it was still there i would be going there every month. Unfortunately, i think it was one of those things that will never be the same. There are quite a few documentaries about it here on TH-cam should you want to check it out, but i have watched them... and it does no justice to the real experience.
I went late 90's and still have the ticket they give you to this day.
@@OfficialMediaKnightsOh no don’t watch Alien 3 if you liked the “happy” ending of Aliens.
@rickking228 Well, there is a community that thinks the main storyline ended already in Aliens and the cancelled movie by Neill Blomkamp would have been the legit ending.
That experience sounds amazing. I wonder if there's any footage of it out there?
There are very few movies I regret not seeing in the theaters when first released, and this is one of them. As it was amazing at home, I can only imagine how killer it would have been with the full movie theater experience. While this movie started at a slow burn, once it got going, it was just EPIC. A+
I saw it in the theatre. Amazing. That moment when Ripley walks out in the power loader suit and says "the line"...
We all cheered. No lie.
I'm so glad you guys are checking this one out
So happy you enjoy, we're so glad to be sharing our reaction!!

You can either pause here, on the high point, or continue to what you will likely consider a mixed bag.
I've watched other reactions channels, and you guys are fast becoming a favorite, because you give insightful commentary and respect to aspects of the filmmaking. You guys are good at putting yourself in the era that a film was made and appreciating it from that perspective.
It was a real pleasure seeing two people watching the best sequel ever made for the very first time- I loved this!
Top marks!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
What I love about Aliens its that at it's core, its a showdown of two heavily protective moms trying to make their children survive lmao
Haha, true!
a masterclass in film making,it perfectly builds the tension while balancing action ,horror and character development, you actually care about the characters and when one dies it hits hard, and the brilliant mother daughter development between Newt and Ripley makes for a great emotional connection between them and the audience. truly one of THE best films of the 1980's.
Legend has it that Paul Reiser's (Burke) own mother cheered when his character got killed by the aliens offscreen.
That moment with vasquz and the snub gun on a gimble rig, a lot like this cameraman with steady cam.
Somebody better wake him up 😂
I love how much Halo CE was inspired by Aliens, the marine's looks, spaceships, facehuggers being the flood pod infectors, etc
“Squish it and twist it”. Yah, that’s how I spend my Friday nights too. 😂
