Somebody always has to comment this, so I guess it'll be me this time: the actor playing Burke (the sleazy company man) took his mom to the premiere of the movie, and even SHE cheered and clapped when her son died in the movie. xD
Okay, look. What if that comment didn't even exist, huh? Did you ever think about that?
I didn't know!
So now, if I went in and made a major security situation out of it, everybody steps in.
Administration steps in, and there are no exclusive rights for anybody; nobody wins!
What I like about Burke as a villain, is that he isn't some calculating evil genius. He is, to quote Futurama, A Monkey of medium intelligence who wears a suit. He's just some guy from company lower-middle management, with big aspirations of getting a key to the Executive Bathroom and figured this was his big chance to make it big, but has neither the authority, nor really the smarts to actually pull it off, so he's just winging it the whole time, often making a bad situation worse, not least for himself.
I didn't know that. And I saw this movie when it came out. I will say this, I never watched Mad About You because I hated Burke so much.
Viggo Mortensen broke his foot kicking the helmet
@@larsyxa Hey, give me some goddamn credit for The Aviator, alright?!
"Not bad for a human" is a callback to "Empire Strikes Back" when C3P0 says something similar about Luke. "He's quite clever, you know...for a human being". I guess Ripley ended up being Cameron's answer to the Jedi.
Awwwwwww damn I didn’t catch that reference
What is really tragic is the fact that that woman that got chest-bursted survived nearly as long as Newt. She only got captured maybe one or two days prior. I wonder if she and Newt knew each other.
In a Colony of only about 150 people, very likely. Even if they didn't know each other exactly, they were almost certainly familiar with one another. It's just too small a town for them not to
Other than killing them with weapons the xenomorphs are virtually immortal. They can live in the vacuum of space, they just go dormant when there isn't anyone around to impregnate. The lore is quite extensive between films, novels and comics. There is an alien queen mother said to be thousands of years old, and over 50 feet long.
Hudson was played by Bill Paxton who also played one of the 3 punks in the beginning of The Terminator. Paxton is also in Predator 2 so has the distinction of being killed by a Terminator, a Predator, and a Xenomorph 😯😀
Yes. The actor who played Corporal Hicks also played Reese ( John Connor's father), in Terminator. And the woman who played Vasquez in Aliens also played John Connor's stepmother in Terminator 2.
Also the actor who played the Colony Mayor, played Captain Hollister in Red Dwarf and was the "Thirsty Cop" from The Fifth Element
Foster mother
Lessons from Aliens: If you have a good reason for telling people to do something that sounds stupid and time allows (like not using guns in a war), you should mention them. Even if you never smoke, always carry a lighter. Never trust a corpo.
Three of these actors are also in "Near Dark." Jenette Goldstein(Vasquez), Lance Henrickson(Bishop), and Bill Paxton(Hudson) all worked together again in that excellent vampire movie.
This is what gets me when people say that guys don’t like strong female characters. I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t love Ripley, man or woman. She’s awesome! She’s a badass but her vulnerability is what helps us identify with her. Ripley is no Mary Sue. She’s scared to death, but ultimately faces her fears and comes out on top by the skin of her teeth. That’s her strength. We should all aspire to have her force of will.
We don't like "strong female characters" that don't earn it. Ellen Ripley, Vasquez and Sarah Conner all earned it.
It's the writing (and the fact that Weaver acts the absolute hell out of it), but if the writing and the character arc is as good as this nobody gives a fak if it's a male or female.
Can I just take a moment to give a ton of praise to whomever was in charge of maintaining continuity in the movie? Someone made a headcount of aliens dying, and came up with a number that was _really_ close to the number of colonists reported. That's damn good continuity for something very few people would even notice.
Plus the countdown at the end is real.
When Bishop is getting in the pipe, someone hands him a pistol. He just looks at it and immediately hands it to Hicks. That's when I knew Bishop was a good egg.
Yeah, I was like oh damn, but then the next shot made him look evil with that lighting 🤣
That, or Bishop had studied the aliens enough to know a little 9mm pistol would do somewhere between Jack and Sh@t against an alien
@@weldonwin No he can't hurt active anyone or anything. Using a weapon is against his behavior limiter. The Alien Trilogy books from Alan Dean Foster are a really good addition to the movies. He even makes Alien3 logically working, wich was huge in my book. Pun intended.
Hah, had a chuckle out loud moment: 'I woulda been waitin' in the back, practicin' my moves for when I meet that alien.'
Turns out, Ripley *was* practicing her moves for when she met that alien:)
When Ripley was in the hospital bed and Burke said "I work for the company", that look you gave summed it up :D
In deleted scenes, Bishop while crawling through the pipe encounters an alien who ignores him and keeps going. Ripley looking for Newt, sees Burke cocooned. Burke tells her he’s already got one growing inside him. Ripley gives Burke a grenade and continues looking for Newt. These scenes are somewhere on TH-cam.
Omg I need to see all the deleted scenes!!! I wondered about the androids, so they really have no interest in them!
The space mushroom line is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard in a reaction. 😂
Great reaction, you're very empathetic and intuitive about what will happen
Fun Facts Time: No fewer than four members of the cast of Aliens (Counting the special edition) were all voice actors on Starfleet, a British produced English language dub of a Japanese sci-fi marionet series that ran in the UK through 1980-81. Mark Rolston, who played Drake (The big, gruff blonde marine), played the pudgy comic relief character. The full series is available to watch on TH-cam if anyone is interested and Brian Ferry, the lead guitarist from Queen, produced a rock album inspired by the series, as a collaboration with rock legend Eddie VanHalen.
The X-Bomber one? That is one of my fav british childhood series of all time!!

@@JimsScience Yeah, that's the one
Re: Hicks asleep during the drop: Experienced soldiers/Marines catch a nap whenever possible during operations. Some of them can sleep through damn near anything.
Also, of course Gorman is inexperienced and has only done one previous combat drop. He's a Lieutenant, the lowest grade of commissioned officer. He'd normally just be one of several LT's on a mission, with a Captain above them to keep them in line. It's very unusual for a LT to be running an entire mission by himself.
The APC used by the troops is actually an airport vehicle for towing planes. There is a book that explains Ripleys missing 57 years. The officer was specifically picked by Burke because he was inexperienced and easy to manipulate when the time came.
Damn you Burke!!!! 😤 😤
There is a cut scene from this you can find if you scour the internet. While looking for Newt in the reactor, Ripley is suddenly grabbed by something to find Burke trapped to the wall. He essentially says something like "Ripely, oh god I can feel it! It's inside me! Help me!! " so she gives him one of the explosives and moves on. The next you hear is a muffled explosion.
I love how in the video games, pretty universally - you never fight the queen. You always run from it. I think it keeps the fight between Ripley and the queen somewhat special.
Yeah I’d take one look and run, Riley is so BA

27:26 Classic line! 😂💪
This is one of the best sci fi movies of all time. My only gripe with it is that when she was loading up on the dropship she brought a pulse rifle, flamethrower, hand grenades and grenades for the pulse rifle. She even had the wherewithal to bring marking flares so she could find her way back. She did not think to bring a couple extra mags for the pulse rifle though? Ah well, they had to get to that awesome conclusion somehow!
Great reaction to this sci fi classic/ masterpiece
Game over, man! Game over!!!
20:30 I just commented on one of your videos about how I absolutely LOOOOVE your intuition!!! And this part here is an example of that. YES!!! that's exactly why they assigned him. They know that this mission would more than likely fail, allowing for Burke to sneak an embryo in stasis, and back to earth. I swear, your movie IQ is like seriously off the charts. :D
Corporal Hicks was Kyle Reese in Terminator, Bishop was a cop & the whiny soldier (Bill Paxton) was one of the punks at the beginning of the movie.
The guy who played Frosty also played Boggs in Shawshank Redemption. He was the 'sister' that the guard Hadley crippled for harrassing Andy.
I love that bard comment when they took their mags 😂
ALIENS (1986) MOVIE IS ALL TIME CLASSIC
The director's cut really better sets up the touching moment when Newt calls Ripley "mommy".
The first one and the first movies did the director cut for alien that just showed a scene with Captain Dallas and Brett being turned into eggs called egg morphine. Because of the time there was only one alien so it was trying to make more from what I understand but we never really understand more past that because in this one there's more explanations
You should react to The Thing (1982). It’s infinitely more terrifying than ALIEN. 👍🏻
yes i think the same! truly and amazing film, i remember being paranoid as hell after i first saw it. everything could be the thing at that point and it can slip through cracks in doors i was baked 🤣🤣
Haha you got me helping her with nightmares like space mushrooms :D
still might be my favorite movie of all time
It's one of my all time favorites, too. But Jaws is firmly at #1.
It's up there. Definitely top ten.
This was great and had all the feels but looking back I’m like, I really liked 1 too…
I've watched quite a few Aliens reactions (because I love the film, not weird; and because I like watching media reactions, which I once thought was weird but apparently *looks around* isn't so weird), and you're the first person I've watched that catches things like 'at that time' during Ripley's debrief by Weyland-Yutani corpos. I look forward to more of your reactions:)
They didn't know the coordinates of where the ship was tell Ripley woke up and told them they didn't know the planet was too big so they never found the ship until it was later this guy when Ripley woke up and she told them all in the meeting. She explained where the coordinates were.
you're right, quite a few of the actors are in terminator 1 and 2: lance henriksen, michael bean, bill paxton, janet goldstein. henriksen is even in one of the predator movies. alien and predator exist in the same universe, so there's a reason the face of bishop to look like this!
It's a big company with operations across many worlds. It is unclear from the film if anyone in that inquest hearing knew about the reason the Nostromo was diverted, although it's entirely possible. During the previous half-century LV426 was likely selected for colonization independent of the classified information about the ship that crashed there. Burke appears to have done some digging, and connected the dots after Ripley's testimony in the hearing. He then sent the colonists to check the ship, resulting in the loss of contact, which he then used as the pretext for the mission.
Yes, both Hicks and Hudson were from Terminator. It's a James Cameron film afterall.
Enjoyable, insightful reaction. Thanks.
LOL, the Aliens were literarily "JUST... having morning coffee" when we showed up! I think some of them had just literarily JUST discovered coffee 😅
Great job on the editing
I really wish that Bruke's death would have stayed in the movie just like it did in the comic book.
"Are they really ok?"
Yes. Yes they are. Sadly there were no sequels. There Were No Sequels. So they're fine.
This! Proceed ahead at your own peril and mental well-being. David Fincher is STILL dealing with the trauma.
Read earth war volumes 1and 2, first editions. Newt and Hicks are the main characters 10 years later. After 3 was announced, the names were changed to Welks and Billie, but it's Hicks and Newt.
Let people make their own decisions. Without giving spoilers, I was not particularly happy with what happened in 3, but I can still acknowledge it was a decent movie. Most reactions I have seen from those watching 3 have been positive as well. I think 4 was a lot worse, much too campy, and not a very good story. I still would not tell a person not to watch it based on my own subjective opinion of the movie. If I am asked if I think they are good, I would say not in any way close to as good as Alien and Aliens. But they can still be entertaining. Three actually has some good scenes and cinematography with the setting.
-
I am NOT trying to change your opinion of the sequels. As I said, I have my own issues with them. But I also would not suggest a person not watch them and form their own opinion. Plus it has Charles S. Dutton and Charles Dance, I thought they did an amazing acting job.
THERE WERE NO OTHER SEQUELS
@@onegemini420 4 was proto firefly
In the Theatrical cut you would have missed the scene where Newt's family finds the alien ship, goes in and then comes back with a face hugger attached to her father's face. Also the initial scene of the Hadley's Hope colony is missing, also the scene where Ripley learns that her daughter has passed away while she slept for 57 years, and also all scenes with the sentry guns that they set up to defend against the aliens are missing as well.
Michael Biehn (Hicks) was also Kyle Reese in Terminator uno, (probably why he seems familiar), and later Lt. Coffey in the Abyss. All directed by James Cameron.
Three of the actors in this were in "The Terminator." Michael Biehn(Corporal Hicks) was Kyle Reese. Lance Henrickson(Bishop) was one of the cops. Bill Paxton(Hudson) eas one of the punks the terminator demanded clothes from.
This film's theatrical release omitted any mention of Ripley's daughter.
At 48:30 .... QUEEN TAKES BISHOP!
🤯
Is he from Terminator? About 3 of them are at least. Reese, Bill Paxton was the punk in the beginning- killed by Arnold. And Bishop actor was one of the detectives- also killed by Arnie.
Super reaction. Thanks.
I love your "movie smarts" so many people, yes i mean girls" have no movie smarts, but you really do understand sci fi!!
Funny when you said you'd be practicing your moves for when you meet the alien and that's exactly what Ripley was doing in the loader at that moment.
Loved your reaction ! alien aliens and John carpenters the thing are my 3 favorite movies of all time .
“Y’all don’t wanna put on a jacket? Looks Kinda cold out there” looool the most woman statement ever
Hicks was Kyle Reese in Terminator, Hudson was one of the punks the Terminator fought at the beginning of the movie, Bishop was one of the cops who were killed in the police station and Vasquez was the foster mom in T2.
That's quite a lot when you string it all together like that.
Omg, well damn here I just barely recognized Hicks 😂 that’s quick a lot of familiar faces
Regarding the how hard it is to hold a child a run, they actually had to make a fake newt model for that reason 😊
Vasquez also played John Connor's foster mom interminator 2

*Hey Nia! Good seeing another reaction from you. This is one of my all-time favorite movies (I didn't know you already started reacting to Alien). They mostly come at night, mostly!*
8:00 Exactly! 😂
People keep saying don’t watch the third. But other reactors that have reacted to it were glad they saw it as it continues Ripley’s story. It’s better than what all these haters keep saying ‘don’t watch it’ think.
Make it your own choice.
My grandmother always said if everyone liked the same thing everyone would be after your grandfather. In other words, everyone has their own opinion.
With all the production problems, Alien 3 is a good movie, not excellent but it's fine and can be an ending in the Ripley's story. Alien Resurection in the other hand, is pretty awful and unnecesary in my opinion
No, it doesn't. The magic egg on the Sulaco BREAKS continuity. So it doesn't follow Aliens. It's stupid fanfic with a studio budget.
I agree, I always detest when people tell people not to watch something. Let them make their own decisions. I was not particularly happy with some of the story in 3. I won't give spoilers. Still, it actually is a pretty good movie and most people I see react to it actually enjoy it. I disliked 4 a lot more, I thought it was too campy among other things. I still would not tell someone not to watch it.
@@onegemini420 I detest when people lie and misguide people into watching irredeemable crap like 3. Besides, they are ASKING their audience for opinions. Also, 3 can't be "spoiled." You can only "spoil" something that is good.
People would live much happier lives if they only saw the first two. No one's life has been enriched by watching the garbage that followed.
@@miller-joel Look you can argue how the HUGE queen got onto a dropship in Aliens, through the tiny gap in the landing gear? You have to suspend your disbelief that it somehow got on board. Does that mean you disown the entire Aliens movie?
-
You can also argue that the queen carried one of her eggs with her to rescue. That egg could have been on the dropship still hidden. She could have hidden the egg before tearing Bishop in half or while Newt was under the flooring and out of Bishop's line of sight. There are a TON of viable explanations for the egg. As I am sure you will offer viable explanations for how the huge queen got onto the dropship in the first place.
The theatrical cut doesn’t include what happened to Ripley’s daughter while she was gone. Keeping it in adds a lot of subtext to her interactions with Newt
Actually, IIRC in the theatrical version Ripley tells Newt she used to have a daughter (but doesn't anymore), and without the added scene from the DC it's implied that Ripley's daughter died when she was still a kid. As sad as the DC version is, at least Ripley's daughter had a full life, we can assume, even if she was only 66 when she died. Ripley losing her daughter when she was roughly the same age as a Newt is infinitely more heartbreaking. It also explains why Ripley, a woman with strong maternal instincts, as we can se in her care for Newt, would take a job that forces her to be away from her child for months or possibly years at a time (as crew member of a space freighter) - it's because her daughter had already died when she signed up.
I hate it so much. Totally unnecessary to add a daughter.
I actually met Carrie Henn (Newt) a few days before Halloween in 2023. Got her autograph on my DVD. Wish I could share that pic of her and me with you
I was amazed that Bishop remained useful after ripped in half, unlike a certain gold droid in Empire Strikes Back. The actor who played him didn’t know how to read until he was 30!!
Also, I was ecstatic when the movie was mentioned in an Avengers film and the basis for a rescue plan. They even did a camera shot that was reminiscent of it.
Glad you watched the Special Edition of Aliens. Definitely better than the first. Do NOT bother with the remaining sequels. HUGE disappointments!
50:58 Now this, puts a smile on my face 😌
25:41 Exactly!!!! 😂💪
The new "Romulus" one takes place between the first one and this one. I wonder if they'll mention Ripley or her daughter because Amanda Ripley would be 30 years old when it's taking place and wondering what happened to her mom who never came back.
Lol, space mushrooms 😂
YO you had me cryin laughing 😂 when you jumped at the facehugger part!!!!😂😂
Gotta do part 3 now. But stop there.
Did you notice that the marine that was flirting with Ripley was Reece from Terminator

Im glad you watched the directors cut. They didn't cut out much but what was cut was great stuff and really affected story arcs
The 3 important scenes cut for the theatrical release were;
1. Ripley finding out about her daughter, which reinforced the Mother/Daughter relationship with Newt. It really brings more weight to Newt calling Ripley "mommy" at the end.
2. Hudson bravado monologue in the drop ship. This sets up his arc as actually being a coward but then redeeming himself heroically in the end.
3. The automatic guns. This showed that the Aliens weren't unstoppable and intelligent enough to cut their losses and retreat.
🤟😎
there is an oft repeated anecdote that James Cameron pitched this movie by writing "alien" on the board, then wrote a dollar sign at the end: ALIEN$
