One of the saddest parts for me in hindsight was when Kyle was talking about that picture he had of her, and how he'd always wondered what she was thinking about in that moment. The novelization provided some interesting backstory for Reese and John.
John never told Reese that they were related. Once he came to power he found Reese and had him assigned to a unit close to his inner circle.
Just before they sent Reese back in time, John walked into the room and asked to speak to him alone.
He made Reese recite the speech he later said to Sarah until he had it down. He then stood looked at Kyle and grabbed him in a bare hug. Then before Reese could say anything he walked out of the room.
Once the time travel jump was done, John broke down in tears and told his officers the truth that Kyle Reese completed his mission, died and was his father.

As mentioned in the future, dogs are used to spot Terminators. Somehow humans and dogs are so symbiotic that pooches can spot a Terminator on sight.
In the novelization, the author supposed that dogs can look into a man’s eyes and recognize a human soul staring back. But a Terminator is a machine and doesn’t have one.
Due to this great ability dogs are considered fellow soldiers in the war of survival. No soldier in the future will let a dog go hungry or hurt if they can help it.
Early in the novel, Reese is walking through downtown LA eating pizza for the first time in his life. He is shocked at how clean and beautiful everything is. As he walks along a stray dog walks up begging for food. Recognizing the soldiers code, Kyle immediately gives up the rest of his slice to the dog.

Yes, Lance Henriksen played Bishop in _Aliens_ , which was also written and directed by James Cameron. That was his second movie, and _The Terminator_ was his first. Henriksen was originally hired to play the Terminator and Cameron was talking to Arnold about playing Kyle, but then Cameron decided that Arnold would make a great Terminator, and gave him the role instead.
By the way, the punk with the tire treads on his face was played by Bill Paxton, who played Hudson in _Aliens_ , and Michael Biehn, who plays Kyle here, played Hicks in _Aliens_ . You'll find that a lot of the same actors keep popping up in Cameron's movies, simply because he liked working with them. There are more movies featuring these two (and others), as examples. Biehn is in _The Abyss_ as Coffey, and Paxton is in _True Lies_ as Simon and _Titanic_ as Brock Lovett.

Arnold virtually always plays the good guy, but the great irony of his career is that one of his few villain roles, this one, was what propelled him to superstardom. To my knowledge, he only ever played a villain on one other occasion, which was _Batman & Robin_ , in which he played Mr. Freeze. Arnold is known for being the hero, but he's great at playing bad guys, too. And he's great at both action movies and comedies, as well.

The reason the answering machines were so big back then is because they were just special tape-recorders, and earlier models (like the one in the movie) needed TWO tapes, one for the outgoing message, and another for the incoming messages. Later on they started using smaller cassettes, and eventually they started using chips to store the audio instead of cassettes.

Any story involving time travel will always need plot shield. Time travel stories without exception come to a point where something needs to happen that can't possibly happen, and we all just say "ok I'm livin' in the moment", or what is called suspension of disbelief. We agree to it (or we don't, and stop watching), and go on enjoying a great story :)

Great reaction, especially at the end where you kept repeating ,"don't think about it ... living in the moment." That is exactly the correct attitude for watching movies in this franchise, as the holes in the logic keep geting larger with each movie added to it. Not everyone seems to see them though. So good on you that you can. It will better prepare you for the first sequel, which many (myself included) feel is better than this one.
But don't stop there, as the people who take this franchise way too seriously will tell you. The third installment has just as much drama and action as the first two. But in recognition of the ever increasing plot holes it also has some self-aware fun with itself too. So you are going to get some humor thrown in to make for an even more enjoyable experience, provided, of course you are still of your current mindset. If not you'll likely view it as the fanatics do, as blasphemy.

I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda.
Fun Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator makeup - with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh.
Juice Dodged Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic.
Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's.

You gotta remember they didn't have Twitter back in the day. I was just going to make this comment. It's so unfortunate that anyone who's come to this film for the first time in the last twenty years has had that wack remixed audio track to contend with, which I really do think undermines the power of the film greatly---the sound effects editing on the gunshots in the original mono mix just hits so much harder than the later mix.

    • @crissrudd4554
      @crissrudd4554 ปีที่แล้ว

@ResidentPetrolhead Agreed. The remix greatly undermines the guerilla filmmaking approach the film had. The new sounds IMO call too much attention to themselves while the old sounds allow me to sit and appreciate the film from the perspective of the time.

Yes, that police detective is Bishop from Aliens. Did you miss the skinny naked guy with the scars on his back? He played the Colonial Marine Corporal Hicks in Aliens. Opposite Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.
Hicks played by Michael Biehn is Sgt Kyle Reese assigned to protect Sarah in this movie. And at the beginning of this movie, the punk with the blue spiked hair is actor Bill Paxton. He played Hudson. Also a Colonial Marine in Aliens.
All these actors have Aliens and The Terminator in common. But only 2 have Aliens, Terminator AND Predator in common. And they all play characters that get killed by each. An Alien xenomorph, a Terminator & a Predator.
The actor who plays Bishop also starred in Alien v Predator. Bill Paxton also played a hotshot police detective in Predator 2. Funny how all these actors overlap these 3 big franchise movies. -OG
