Hello Gabriel thanks for the mention. Maldives was one of my favorite countries I have visited! I went to the islands of Guraidhoo, Thoddoo, and Dhiffushi. I liked Dhiffushi the best. I didn't see Thulusdhoo but it is supposed to be a nice one and also affordable. The other day I bought a shirt in India just like the one you're wearing! Nice one ;D so much cheap an nice clothes in India
Cool man. I was also considering Dhiffushi because of your videos. I might go there as well. I remember that Thoddoo was the one with not much going on. I'll look into Thulusdhoo as another option. I decided to go to Maafushi first. No regrets, it's a nice spot. Enjoy incredible India. 👍✌
I'm thinking one day you guys should team up for a vlog series. I think you two are some of the most genuine and honest travel vloggers. Some of these others are so intrusive and disrespectful to locals, not to mention flashy. You guys always keep it real and are always respectful and courteous.
Hahaha. William and his shirts. Gabriel. Any chance we will see you doing "pool tricks" in the future? Or bouncing on the hotel bed to rate its' comfort level?
Hi Gabriel: I just wanted hou to know how much I enjoy your work. I am approaching my 70th birthday. Covid precautions and orthopedic concerns have greatly limited travel in recent years. Folks like you have become my window on the world. Of course, our values and interests are somewhat different, so it is fun to not just see these places, but see them through the eyes of another. Happy travels!
While nearby Sri Lanka was devastated, the tsunami's had less of an impact on the Maldives due to the topography and bathymetry of the atoll chain, with offshore coral reefs, deep channels separating individual atolls and its arrival within low tide. People thought because of the fact the islands are very low-lying, that they'd be fully submerged after the tsunami. Thankfully, this didn't happen. But rising sea levels is very much still a huge issue the nation is facing.
Wow I too never thought Maldives had a regular town life, thought it was only for the rich and famous, thanks Gabe for a new viewpoint, enjoy your Journey ☮️🌏🙏🏽
Thanks for showing the more rugged side of Maldives. My impression was that the entire island was strictly paradise. I enjoyed seeing the real part of the city.
I too follow William, and really enjoyed his travels there. Hes like you in the sense he wants to get a local experience, not touristy. Love both you guys. Looking forward to this series at the 81st!
This series could be big. This is the kind of places people into travelling wanna go to these days. Not overly popular/famous, exotic but not too exotic. The whole SEA ocean scene is the best IMO.
As a maldivian I'm so happy that we are getting to see more of solo travellers showing the other side of the Maldives. Absolutely love this and hope you have a great time here in our beautiful country! ❤️
I'm wondering how many folks suddenly thought the luxury of the Maldives is suddenly not just a dream...bet some are Googling flights to Male.... good to see how real people live and it's not just 5 star sun sea and sand....
So wild 2 seconds before you mentioned william i was gonna ask if you knew him. His videos of the islands was great. Loved the cheap prices on the islands. Makes one want to go! So excited for you to be here and for the peace from india!
Thanks for that video Gabriel - I didn't want it to end. Like you, I never even considered the fact there was a large city somewhere there. I have only seen the resorts and famous expensive hotel rooms jutting out into the sea. I enjoyed my virtual tour with you and plan on watching more of your content. Safe travels!
Yes I’ve been following William Taudin for two years now,he has gone from less than 1000 subs to more than 73000 subs in that time.I enjoyed his Maldives series,Very nice of you to give him props…He is in India now I was hoping he would meet up with you
Awesome Gabe, I used to stay in Male a lot back when I was a flight attendant. Well worth checking out the fish curries in any of the busy-looking local restaurants. I'm sure after all your time in India you can handle the spice 😉
The number of motor bikes are four times the number of people in video... Male looks lot calmer than i expected. This many people walk around on streets during an emergency lockdown in India.
I caught a glimpse of the local football stadium in the view from your hotel window .If you return to Male please show us some more . Many thanks and good health .
I am an avid viewer and I only watched 3 episodes of the recent India series. I love seeing new countries that most people have not been too. Your style of travel is different than most TH-camrs. It would be great to see you go to more of these tropical countries and in general more of the less traveled countries.
Another great video! Thanks for showing us the 'local' side of the Maldives, very interesting. Looking forward to seeing more, and also hoping that maybe you will eventually make your way to Australia? That would be awesome, but all of your videos are awesome, regardless.
Hi Gabriel, The Maldives definitely has a feel of the Caribbean reminds me of Trinidad and Tobago very pleasant layback feel go to get away from congested cities, and a change of pace.
If someone from Maldives is reading my comment i really wish they will change their motorcycle with bike. You will improve your health, eco friendly, less noise and you will save some money :)
That's funny. I was just going to suggest watching William Taudien's Maldive vlogs. as he was just there. Some good cheap places he stayed at. And cheap restaurants.
"Someone from the north would have a hard time understanding and talking with someone from the south" *Well that just sounds like American English with extra steps*
The Maldives script kinda looks like the Arabic script. An analogy I could think of would be the Cyrillic alphabet kinda looks like our Latin alphabet.
Great to see you there. William also opened my eyes to independent travel in the Maldives. Last time I researched the Maldives maybe some 5-6 years ago It seemed like a lot of hassle to do independent travel at a descent cost level. Now it is probably my next long distance destination for the coming winter. I regret that I never went there during the early 90's when I spent months in Sri Lanka. But it is never too late to go. So the plan is to go there and also visit Sri Lanka and see what I couldn't see during the civil war. Like the east coast. Hopefully the unrest is gone by then. I am going to my 80th country next week. One week off from work. The Netherlands. :-) :-) Longing a lot now for a change of environment even only for a week.
I was right in my comment yesterday thinking you might be headed for the Maldives. I've never been but you are seeing it the way I would, keeping away from the resorts and exploring the world in which regular Maldivians live. Where are you going to go? The island of Gan in the south was an RAF base for years and was the site of a U-boat sinking in WW2. From there you might find a yacht heading to the Chagos Archipelago that the British claim as their own, but that the UN has ruled rightfully belongs to Mauritius.
It is a stunning and unique destination, which also offers incredible services. Surely, the cost does not reflect the quality, but with the above tips, you can make it a value for money trip. Last but not least advice: you do not have to stay for many days.
i think Mulvey went there too a TH-camr from Liverpool. check it out...Maldives look amazing but a few things would put me off going there! not being able to get a beer and why so many motorbikes when everything is in walking distance?
It's a perfect city for bicycling and they would be just as fast to get around as motorbikes. But I don't remember seeing hardly any. Things get much quieter on the other islands.
I also watched Taudien's videos and it totally changed my mind about the Maldives. But as a solo female traveler I really appreciate your shots that featured local women because it also made me think about how to visit markets respectfully.
hello from Maldives. Maldives is a safe place for solo female travelers. And we respect guests from all cultures. In some islands there are dedicated beach areas for tourist where they can wear all kinds of dresses. Like in every other country there are etiquettes visiting and living in local islands. But you don't have to wear fully covered Islamic dress when you go out in public except in Mosques.
