Please do not generalize the Maldives, just because of Male island. Maldives is a country with more than 1190 islands. There are also about 200 islands that are like local village islands. Most of the islands are not crowded like this. What happened to Male would have happened to any other country if it was like islands. Imagine if London was an island. As the population grew it, it expanded as there was land. In the case of Male, it is an island that was not able to expand. The island of Hulhumale is an artificial island that was reclaimed in order to lessen this pressure. Before about 15 years it was a reef with no island. If we want to compare other small island countries, usually their islands are larger than the islands in Maldives. For example Rodriguez in Mauritius. The reason why Male became crowded is due to development of tourism in the 1970s. That time there was only one international airport. So the tourism started with islands near Male. The concept in Maldives tourism ws like one island - one resort concept. But on these islands it was exclusively for tourism, and no local settlements were allowed. In fact, most of those islands were also small. During that time time transportation was not easy. So many resort workers brought their families to Male. Banking was only available in Male. As the tourism industry grew, and needed more employees, more families from rural areas migrated. The cottage industries in rural areas declined. I don't know why, but i felt quite sad by reading your comment.

Further to my comment: I have been to the Maldives 2 times, many tourists like myself usually bypass Male and go straight to the resorts. Many tourists are very apprehensive about staying in Male if they have a late flight and cannot catch their seaplane transfer or catching a very early International departing flight. I think William’s video will show that it is perfectly fine to stay in Male and that locals will extend the same courtesy and respect you show them. @naturelover5449 dear, maldives is not a part of india. We are independent. Maldives has a different culture, ethnicity, religion and heritage to india or any other neighbouring country. The maldivian lifestyle, beliefs and values differ heavily, esecially to india. The closest cousins to the maldivian lineage in south asia is Sri Lanka. The Maldivian language 'dhivehi', was heavily influenced by Sinhala.

Thanks for showing the real interior of Maldives. Everyone posts videos of the beautiful beaches but not the crowds, traffic and asphalt. Good eyeopener !!
The water temp here seems to be as in Tel Aviv, Israel where you just don't get to freshen up at all, it is always at least 28 C in the summer. The only difference, in the Maldives it *seems* cooler when you look at it due to its crystal color. The little islands will be more to your taste, I think. See you there! :=)

Its kinda crazy to think that this place is so small and jam packed that i could pinpoint exactly where you were on a map at almost any point in this video cuz ive seen these places like a million times, never quite struck me this hard before
This video taught me things that I never bothered learning as a local haha. The bus ticket thing was a complete mystery for me and I doubt many people bothered trying to figure it out because even now only a few people use the bus to travel between the islands as the main mode of transport is usually either the Ferry or the bridge on a motorcycle or a Taxi. Maybe next time I go to Hulhumale' I'll take the bus haha!
LOL! I had the same problem with not having a bus card in Colombia. Then, just as in your case, no one seemed to know where I could buy a card. So I stuck with the Metro train which accepted cash.
Hello William. Thanks for another very interesting video. You are showing me countries that I may never see so thank you. I hope you reach 100,000 subscribers because your sure deserve it!
as a person that lives in male, it is interesting to see it from another perspective. and yes i do agree that male is not what you think of when you think of the maldives. fun fact: hulhumale is completely man made, and male dosn't have a single natural beach
Hi William...it's me--William, as well...as a surfer living in San Diego, California, USA, The Maldives are best known to me as one of the world's premier spots for excellent reef break surfing..hopefully, you'll get to see some epic waves & surfing...&, perhaps, you could even paddle out & ride a few waves yourself!
@@williamtaudien Yes, William, that is certainly a very distinct possibility. So, as in skiing (with which you're very familiar), the solution is quite simple--just don't fall! Aloha, Bill
Absolutely stunning! I wonder if inflation is having any impact on the Maldives and if there is any issue with shortages of oil as in Sri Lanka (nearby). Cheers!
not that much of a inflation actually. The economy is recovering from covid crisis,Food prices are only slightly high but thats because its ramadan and fuel prices only reached $0.70/liter, that was at the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Its dropped again this month.
Malé most crowded city in the world? LOL… You need to see Dhaka (Bangladesh). I’ve been to Malé, Maldives, and also Dhaka and many other cities in different parts of the world. Never seen any city as crowded as Dhaka: Crowd-wise, Malé is nowhere near Dhaka. Good video though.
@@williamtaudien Everyone knows what "densely populated" refers to. The idea of “densely populated” deriving from theoretical density stat is NOT synonymous to “crowded”. Even if we were to take those terms as synonymous, it still is not correct that Malé “CITY” is the most crowded “CITY” in the world, based on the following reasons: As per density stat that offers an AVERAGE by dividing the total population by total area: Malé Population Density: 27,180/sqkm - vs - Dhaka Population Density: 29,373/sqkm Irrespective of certain lists that says Malé is the most densely populated, just by the above stat giving specific number, Dhaka as a whole (as opposed to Dhaka City) is more densely populated than Malé as a whole. But, even more importantly as applied to the instant case as per your video title including the phrase “Most Crowded CITY” placing into issue “CITY”, we are not talking about Malé and Dhaka as a whole but the “CITY”. The stat you are relying on, I’m sure, gives the population density based on entire Malé population divided by its entire area and the entire Dhaka population divided by entire Dhaka (as opposed to Dhaka CITY) area. Because almost the entire Malé is the city, the stat gives a fairly correct average of the population density of Malé City. But, when we are talking about CITY, the stat doesn’t give the correct picture of the population density of Dhaka City because: 1. the entire Dhaka is NOT the city while, out of the total Dhaka’s area of 1497 sqkm, only 306 sqkm is the area of Dhaka city, and 2. The vast majority of whole Dhaka’s 22,478,000 population live in Dhaka City. Accordingly, the population density AVERAGE of Dhaka as a whole does not reflect the population density in Dhaka City. Given that we are talking about City, 19.5 million people live in Dhaka “CITY” that has the area of 306.4 sqkm. - Now do your math to figure out whether Malé City or Dhaka City is more densely populated. Thanks.

Hey William, well done!
Maldives is on my bucket list. Thanks for the preview 🌸
Thanks more to come!

The funny Swedish Sheep, William smile and laugh, Greattttt Successsss !!!! Pooool tricksssss lololllll
That 🍔 looks so good.
Lots of love. From Maldives 🇲🇻
William, you should go to India next. Think you could get a lot of new subscribers then. Or Bangladesh maybe
I hope so. Yes Bombay!
William you can add money to your ticket online. You don't have to buy additional tickets.
LOL! I had the same problem with not having a bus card in Colombia. Then, just as in your case, no one seemed to know where I could buy a card. So I stuck with the Metro train which accepted cash.
Haha yeah it is strange!
Hello William. Thanks for another very interesting video. You are showing me countries that I may never see so thank you. I hope you reach 100,000 subscribers because your sure deserve it!
Thank you :) hopefully soon!
Pls go live w ur travels bc it's fun also specially when there're happenings like getting lost etc 🤣✌️
hats off to the guy who gave you a bike ride and took no money !! true hospitality
as a person that lives in male, it is interesting to see it from another perspective. and yes i do agree that male is not what you think of when you think of the maldives.
fun fact: hulhumale is completely man made, and male dosn't have a single natural beach
Lollllll noooo jumping from that balcony ! I can see you really wanted to :) too funny
Haha yeah I wanted to
Very beautiful beaches there 🙂.
Greetings from 🇲🇽🇹🇷!
Hola. En que parte de Mexico
Hoping for the same! 🏄♂️
I saw it but it looks so shallow. I imagine people hit the reef if they fall?
@@williamtaudien Yes, William, that is certainly a very distinct possibility. So, as in skiing (with which you're very familiar), the solution is quite simple--just don't fall! Aloha, Bill
Absolutely stunning! I wonder if inflation is having any impact on the Maldives and if there is any issue with shortages of oil as in Sri Lanka (nearby). Cheers!
Good question I dont know actually!
not that much of a inflation actually. The economy is recovering from covid crisis,Food prices are only slightly high but thats because its ramadan and fuel prices only reached $0.70/liter, that was at the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Its dropped again this month.
Actually we're most dependent on india for food so I'd say it's not effecting us at all
@@shabilrl3301 India does not give us free food. Well, we import food items from India as we do from other countries.

Спасибо за доброе, хорошее видео!
Thanks for the good video.
Malé most crowded city in the world? LOL… You need to see Dhaka (Bangladesh).
I’ve been to Malé, Maldives, and also Dhaka and many other cities in different parts of the world. Never seen any city as crowded as Dhaka:
Crowd-wise, Malé is nowhere near Dhaka.
Good video though.
Look up the definition of densely populated
@@williamtaudien Everyone knows what "densely populated" refers to.
The idea of “densely populated” deriving from theoretical density stat is NOT synonymous to “crowded”.
Even if we were to take those terms as synonymous, it still is not correct that Malé “CITY” is the most crowded “CITY” in the world, based on the following reasons:
As per density stat that offers an AVERAGE by dividing the total population by total area:
Malé Population Density:
27,180/sqkm
- vs -
Dhaka Population Density:
29,373/sqkm
Irrespective of certain lists that says Malé is the most densely populated, just by the above stat giving specific number, Dhaka as a whole (as opposed to Dhaka City) is more densely populated than Malé as a whole.
But, when we are talking about CITY, the stat doesn’t give the correct picture of the population density of Dhaka City because:
1. the entire Dhaka is NOT the city while, out of the total Dhaka’s area of 1497 sqkm, only 306 sqkm is the area of Dhaka city, and
Thanks.
Nice video William! You really captured the sort of hectic energy that goes into real travel and exploration.
No skipping ads folks 😅
What happens when you skip the ads? I’ve always wondered if it affects the TH-camr that makes the videos in some way?
Good advice thanks haha
@@williamtaudien Does it affect you when we skip the ads?
Really enjoyed this video! Just got back from the Maldives 🇲🇻 I cannot wait to go back,
India ka Lakshadweep kam 🇮🇳🥹🤩
Omg thanks for visiting my country! I hope you enjoyed every single second here!!! ❤️
Where is the water, power, food and everything come from. And where does all the garbage and waste go?? I see an enviromental disaster in the future.
I have no idea
I think there is an island in the Maldives where all the waste goes to ! I remember watching something about it !
I enjoyed watching this video. I like your humor and glad you didn't jump from the restaurant deck and get scolded.
Maldives ❌🚫 Andaman and lakshadweep ✅
We loved your video to Mali in the Maldives! So clean and beautiful. Can’t wait to see more!!
