I purchased my 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T April 2019. I currently have over 103K miles on it.
No problems. Schedule Maintenance, set of tires, replace rear Brembo brakes.

Most people seem to rent new BMW'S, rather than purchase them.

The only thing that I didn't like ,was the infotainment screen, but Genesis provided me with an update, now it's nice!
BMW makes great cars, I just prefer the Genesis.
I also have a 2019 Genesis G70. Didn’t know they had an update for the infotainment? I just hit 21,500 miles. Should I sell it and get the G80?

Business Lease, I'm going with BMW. For personal ownership for 7+ years, It's Genesis for me..
I got to do extended test drives with both, and I ended up going with the M340i. The G70 absolutely nails it on the value front, but something about the M340i just put a bigger smile on my face. BMW's B58 is absolutely legendary, and when you combine it with the ZF 8 speed auto, it's literally one of the best powertrains currently on sale. The 3.3T in the Genesis is also good, but it doesn't have the sound or theater that the B58 offered. Obviously if money is a major factor, the G70 wins hands down, but if you can stretch a bit, the M340i is the better package IMO.

I ended up with a loaded sport prestige G70 (which this tester is not) which come with brembo brakes and nicer leather in the interior as well as adaptive suspension. I bought this over the BMW for the exact same reason you state, money was a factor. I could stretch my budget to $56k but not $70k. If you are buying you also must consider cost of ownership which will also be much higher for the BMW. I have to say I love my G70 and the way it drives is phenomenal,there is also something about having a unique car that is fun. But if I had the money, I would have bought the Bimmer.
I think we can all agree the M340i is, overall, the better car. But the question is, how much is that worth to you? In Canada, where I'm from, the M340i can be 20k to 25k more expensive than the equivalent G70. The M340i is better, but is it truly 20k-25k better? For those who can afford it, the M340i is a no-brainer. But the G70 is nothing to cry about; on the contrary! I think you can make an argument that, all things considered, the G70 3.3t is the second best in that segment!
I wish the Genesis had the aggressive sounding exhaust that the BMW has. Then it would be almost near perfect
G70 would make a better daily driver. Sure an m340 traps 5 mph higher but are you actually doing that every time you’re in the car? No. But you are listening to the better stereo and sitting in the nappa leather seats that the g70 has 100% of the time.
Didn't compare the top spec genesis to the top spec BMW....
The top spec has quilted nappa leather. Heads up display and 360 camera for 57k. Also awd and massive warranty difference.

Same. My m340 is on order. For me, the lack of rear seat space and legroom was a big factor. The back of the 3 series is just bigger.

Since the Genesis G70 was engineered by former BMW Motorsport's Albert Biermann it's no surprise it has many of the same traits. I shopped a 2023 M240i (MSRP $54,000) as I've owned more than 25 Bimmers, but the delivered price compared to a 2023 G70 AWD Sport Advanced (MSRP $54,100) was staggering. The BMW would have been a bit over $18,000 plus my 2020 low miles Mustang GT Premium convertible trade, the G70 $9,900 and the trade! Love the car and the money saved.
Considering the direct competitor to the G70 is actually the 330i, not the M340i, and yet everyone feels the need to compare it to the M340i - that tells you just how much better the Genesis is versus any other vehicle in its class.
Seems like you would have had a closer match options and brakes wise if you had the G70 Sport Prestige. It would give you the HUD and Brembo brakes. I’ve had a previous Gen. BMW 3 series and from week 1 it had issues with the electronics. I would be very cautious buying a BMW that’s not under warranty unless you have unlimited car repair funds. I now have a 2022 G70 Sport Prestige and I like the fact that I don’t see the same car constantly like I did with my BMW. To each their own, buy whatever you like!
i saw a g70 drive past mine, and i awkwardly waved, i was like should i be doing this?! haha but the g70 is the best car I've ever owned. i love music and the sound system is stellar imo. cant find any complaints. maybe the brake feel? initial bite is to soft/ not as responsive?
You probably had a 328i or something. The b58’s are pretty damn good.

I have a M340i and I can tell you that it’s worth every penny. The performance is amazing.

For the money and warranty available the Genesis is a tempting option.Add in the cost of ownership, maintenance costs and reliability and Genesis is a no brainer.
Bmw are reliable too, but it just expensive to maintain. Genesis is not more reliable then bmw. It just cheaper to maintain
I'm a BMW fan...but for my money, I'd go with the Genny G70. I'd take the Genesis on styling and interior alone..
Gotta go with g70. It’s different from the rest. BMW are everywhere and all look very similar imo. G70 is unique, looks classy but sporty at same time also a lot more cheaper. Only worry would be reliability, but that’s the same issue with BMW.

3:00 one thing to note is that the BMW fob also has remote start! you just press the lock button three times. At least this was how it worked with my 2021 m340i.
The G70 Sport Prestige 3.3T AWD would have been a better comparison, Brembo brakes, 360 cameras, heads up display, upgraded interior materials etc….and still 13k less expensive.
How is the sound system/noise isolation? Im looking for something with a bit less road noise that I can listen to podcasts easily in.

The Genesis is good, but the BMW is the finer, better engineered car.
Buy the genesis, then tune it for 1-2k. Then you not only got more performance, but more luxury. Enjoy your cooled seats

For all of you talking about the mpg on the bmw, you’re also screaming about it’s POWER, meaning you’re a speed enthusiast. Having said that the mpg doesn’t mean chit anymore bcs once you chase the power…you lose the mpg value. Take it from a 2019 Genesis G70 owner with only 21k miles. It’s a beast, and I average 31 mpg!!! My car turns heads everywhere I go bcs it’s a rarity!
I test drove both, they both scare me. I bought the m340i tho - waiting on production now :P The M340i also has better back seat room IMO and feels more luxury. Genesis is also nice but I could tell the diff on BMW being more premium materials imo and I liked the interior better
m340i is better but its hard to justify the big price difference especially if you had compared the highest trim g70
I shall pick the BMW any day.
I would go with the Genesis for overall value and style. But I ended up going with the KIA stinger last year, despite visibility being a slight issue.

24mpg in the city, more hp and better exhaust sound. The BMW won right there for me. Hate digital cluster though.
I have a 2019 G70 2.0T and I love it. Beats the 2019 3 series in some respects aside from cost, but there is no denying the BMW magic when it comes to faster 0-60 times AND better fuel economy for a similar model.
The differences with the six cylinder models are pretty bad. A lot of that cost saving comes from less aluminum, no mild hybrid, and an older heavier engine.
Waiting for My 2024 G70 with the 2.5T at this price point is better than any german with Only a 2.0T
@@markx787 That engine looks a lot better on paper with nearly 300hp stock. Would easily have a G70 down below 5.5s without the six.

Both are nice cars but I think the BMW is definitely the way to go if you’ve got some spare cash, then the Genesis is good if you need something really nice but maybe you’re low on cash.
Drove them both. I'd go with the Genesis because it's a great driver's car, great value, better warranty and I have an attraction for things thats not part of the masses, it makes it feel a bit more special. I'd go with the BMW because it's also a great driver's car, better features, (althought I cant stand that you have to do a lot of things through the screen now) that B58 motor is tried an true and it's more efficient.

In other words your good to go with either, it all depends on your pockets and what you value the most. So again I would get either or I would be more than satisfied with either.
You really gona pay 70 grand because the engine is…more efficient??? To me if you want something fast put a performance chip like a GTS black race chip and get a lap 3 tune for the Genesis G70 you should be at 460 deadass minimum
I Have a 2022 G70 3.3tt that i Purchased in April 2022. If im being Honest i was Looking for Either a New 340xi(Was told that BMW wasn't Releasing the Cars from the Port) or S5 Sportback (Audi wanted $14,000 over MSRP 🤬)
I dont have many Regrets besides my G70 is Fully Loaded and i Left the Lot at around 58K after Taxes and Tags. While the 340's Numbers are Bonkers i just couldn't Justify coming out the Pocket with another 18K. 🤦🏾♂️
I've Been Considering getting a Jp4 tune but dont want to Void my Warranty so im Holding off at the Moment but im having a lot of Fun with the Car. Some would say maybe even too much(I Have 31,000 Miles on my 1 Year Old Car) 🤦🏾♂️

Same! The B58 is amazing and overall better than genesis. I test drove both and enjoy the driving experience of M340i way more than the genesis. The genesis was comfortable drive but lacking in exciting element imo

shoulda compared the Sport Prestige G70 , love my 23 G70 SP but that Linden Dealership was in my opinion less than honest dealing with me. so much so that I am forgoing the free maintenance. just doing it myself.
Rear: M340i > G70
Front: G70 > M340i
Dash: M340i > G70 (I don't like the half digital half physical thing they are doing)
Infotainment display: G70 > M340i (although BMW's software is better)
When evenly specced out, the G70 is nearly 20k CAD less than the M340i which is not a small amount. Obviously money not being an issue you'd definitely go with the M340i, but the G70 is much better value.

Has anyone over 6’ tried getting into a newer 3 series? The space between the B-pillar and steering wheel is very narrow.

Yep! a big reason why I choose the 3 series was because of the increased head room and leg room. I'm 6'1 and I can even fit in the back seat very comfortably too which was nice. Being my height, I think it's perfect, however if you were say, 6'4, it might not be as comfortable.

If you have 50k, get the Genesis. If you can stretch the budget to 60k, get the BMW. It's just a better drivers car but the Genesis is the value leader.

Should have compared the Genesis G70 Sport Prestige against the M340i.
In my eyes, both cars are essentially two seaters, and I would have put the Genesis (with the Prestige Pkg) up against the M240I. Both Bimmers have the same engine, and I can't figure out what the extra $10,000 difference between the 2 series and the 3 series gets me. 3 inches of extra legroom in back isn't worth the 10k, and I'm not sitting back there anyway!
As a genesis owner 1 big issue with all kias hyyndai cars is sunroof whistle. Very common. Other then that and the cheap brake pads they put on the genesis . There brembo calipers but matted with cheap kia pads that wear out fast and squeak

The Genesis may be slightly cheaper, but after a few years of that horrible fuel economy is going to get a lot closer to even.

At 15000 miles driven at 15 miles a gallon vs 15000 miles driven at 20 (considering all of it was in the city), you'd save about 800 dollars worth of gas a year. So unless you're looking at 300,000 miles over 20 years, you're still very much in the green with the genesis.
The Genesis uses the same engine as the discontinued Kia Stinger (discontinued)and I haven’t read anything bad about those. Hyundai had a lot of problems with their smaller capacity engines up until 2020, but they have since done a comp,eye upgrade and revision of their plant.

Take it from someone who had a 2022 M340i.....DON'T BUY IT!!! In less than 18 months, I was in the service center 6 to 8 times. Electrical issues that included problems with: radio, instrument panel, speakers, windows. I also had issues with the drive train/power train. My transmission even went out in the middle of the 405 freeway.
I tried to get BMW to declare it a lemon, they said no! The Lemon Law lawyers also did not want to take my case.
I QUIT THE BRAND AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!
Genesis would never be at the level of BMW no matter how much power they put on their cars

The BMW is for the guy that has to fit in with the Jones next door in his uppity neighborhood. Genesis G70 sport prestige is great value and bang for the buck. for the 13k price difference. Genesis is my choice🤷🏻♂️

It's difficult to compare the BMW brand, with its proven B58 engine, to an up-and-coming Genesis. Despite the value aspect, for anything past $50k+ , I'd choose a prestigious brand like BMW over Kia, Hyundai, or Genesis.
Gotta get over the badge. BMWs are a nightmare to maintain, but hey you will be seen in a BMW lol

@@LegendsPizzaCoThey actually aren't a nightmare to maintain. They are VERY easy to work on. It also depends on the model. Like any maker, they have their good and bad. The B58 engine is in the top ten best engines in the world. I also have a e46 zhp which ranked as on of the most reliable cars. You just have to do some research when buying any car.
Now for the bad. The hot V engine used on older V8 650's was GARBAGE!!! Garbage for maintenace, garbage for cooling, just gross.
Obv if you can afford bmw all the way!!! Those zf8 is a magic

I decided to go with the G70. I agree with the comment that it feels 90|95% of a BMW 340i (and much better than the m340i of the previous generation) in a very attractive package. Also Genesis has been at the top of reliability charts in the past 2 yrs (even beating Lexus and Porsche, what an achievement) AND last but not least, scheduled maintenance is free of charge for 5 yrs ( in Canada) . That got me convinced. Only regret : the sound track is a bit better with the BMW. Got a 2004 Z4 3.0i with sport package for summer to make me remember :)
How's gas tho? The bmw has much better mpg on paper but hows the real world mpg of g70 from your experience?
@@joeyn3590 the gas mileage is clearly not a strength of the G70 3.3T. In town, in my books it’s not good: 15 to 18 mpg ( I live in Canada and the numbers are based on my experience in cold weather). As soon as you hit the highway, the number improves A LOT. You get 25 mpg and more. That engine with mild hybridation ( like a stop and go system plus a mini battery to kick start the car) would be ideal. playing a lot with it ( sport mode and strong acceleration) will obviously not help with gas mileage. However, don’t forget you don’t pay for the scheduled maintenance. If you do 10 000 miles per year and the car averages 20 mpg ( I’m on the pessimistic side here ), that’s 500 gallons of fuel per year. @ 4 $ usd, it’s an annual cost of 2000$. If you get a 20% better mileage with a bmw, you save 400 $. I doubt this covers the annual maintenance cost of a bmw m 340i. :)
I’ve had the g70 sport 3.3t. I would go with the BMW next time around honestly. But both great cars.

@@joeyn3590 I work on my own vehicles and have been for decades. I use sites like fcpeuro (exact same parts as the dealer for less), bimmerworld, and ecs tuning so my cost is low. If you have to run to the dealer every time your cost is exponentially higher. The inline six is BMWs bread and butter. Some of the models just don't die. They innovate a lot with the electronics which is why you have some garbage models. As for the new B58, it surprised everyone as a viable 2jz replacement. It's both highly upgradeable and reliable even with hard driving. When a genesis lines up with me, they loose everytime and the BMW has far better handling.

For 31 years Albert Biermann was in charge of BMW's M performance division. He left BMW to become President and Head of the Research and Development at Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis). There is a very good reason the G70 drives like (or better than) a BMW. It is the same reason why Hyundai's performance division is called "N." After all, what logically comes after "M?"
Exactly, the reason why the G70 drives in a similar fashion to the M340i is because Biermann was in charge of calibrating the driving dynamics for this vehicle as well as other Genesis and Hyundai models. If the reviewer had done his homework then he would have mentioned this instead of simply saying that Genesis "copied" BMW

I like them both but would go with the BMW due to MUCH better MPG.
That made me laugh. I went with Audi on my last car because it got 5 MPG's more than the BMW. S6 vs M3. That's a big difference. The G70 gets 1 mpg less despite having a smaller engine, less hp, less weight and 10 years tech advancement.

Price wise the m240i would have been closer but the 3 series is in the same class.
I dislike the Genesis though. They can't out price the looks.

Over the long haul the G70 would be less to own. Service would be less on the genesis and it’s $20k cheaper. Which means you can opt for the sport plus option for another $7k and still be $13k less than the BMW. Think I’d choose the G70.

You aren't using the right model of G70 for this comparison. This is the entry level V6 model. The top of the line has more options. So this comparison doesn't mean much.

I think id still pick the bmw. you say both trans are responsive but im sure the bmw paddle shifts are a lot faster (so the trans. is better), the bmw also gets much better mpg. the genesis gets worse avg mpg than my powerboost f150. i would also think the adaptive suspension in the bmw is better.
i do think bmw’s have gotten crazy expensive and charge too much for options that are standard on cars far less expensive (e.g., toyotas).
The thing here is that just because you are biased toward BMW you “think” it shifts quicker and therefore is a better transmission. You “think” the adaptive suspension is better simply because it’s a BMW. You subjective perception doesn’t equal an objective view. As for gas mileage, I seriously doubt ANY F-150 gets better mileage than any Genesis… but there I go with a subjective take on that point. LOL
@@huecollins6130 except the bmw zf transmission has yet to be beat by anything in its class. Not to mention many publications have lauded how good the bmw zf torque converter is. I havent heard anyone praise the genesis transmission to be class leading.

It shifts quickly, smoothly, and seems to be nearly telepathic in its shift logic. I had never experienced a transmission that was better at doing everything for everyone.

Most who fall for the g70 uptalk and buy end up going back to BMW unless they just don’t make enough to buy BMW. I recently traded my 4 series for the X7. X7 is amazing.
Just for you all to know the Genesis,has a Lotus built suspension.
That doesn't mean it's an actual Lotus suspension. It's like saying Metro PCS is actually T Mobile just because the same network. Metro only uses 15% of TMobile towers.

Andres has a point. The BMW, based on all available information, is highly more likely to break and is MUCH more expensive to repair.

i want 340 but I can only afford a G70 so i brought a g70.
Genesis seems to be luxury first and performance / fun second. It looks like a Bentley. So I think for pure fun the BMW is way better and looks more agile. For more of a cruiser / Bentley type of GT car the genesis is probably the one

I prefer the BMW M340i way over the Copy Cat Genesis. But what is going on with the roads there. It looks as if there was a war going on, with heavy tanks demolishing the roads. Can't believe this is the US.

(yes indeed: BMW has baked into its cars something called "Active Sound Design". Simply put, it “digitally re-creates the exhaust noise and plays the sound through the car’s speakers.” Even more simply, they fake it.)
With the full "M Spec" getting into the $80K range ..... a great set of ear buds and a play list from a Formula1race would be a damn site cheaper. Could also go the tricked out little Honda Prelude tuner car route too.

M340i all day. Only thing Genesis has on this in my opinion is better leather interior.
M340 isn't leather. It's Sensatec
