@MyRealName every driver values cars differently in terms of performance, features, brand, interior/exterior esthetics, etc. When you get to luxury performance vehicles, I find it's the sum of its parts that dictate buying decisions.
@@Raven77844 I agree, I mean not all people are going to buy the same car, obviously. All I'm saying is that it must be difficult for other manufacturers to compete with this package, because BMW is the best sum of its parts, by far. Doesn't mean everybody is going to like it, of course, as you said..
@MyRealName lets face it. All 3 cars were pretty close in terms of performance. We're not talking about drag racing these cars on a daily basis. These cars are developed for daily use on normal residential streets. Its performance is sufficient for normal daily use. If you need your car to be bragging rights for the fastest in this segment, then BMW is it. It all comes down to personal choice. Eg). I think Audi has the best interior ergonomics and esthetics. Its performance is pretty good. It doesn't need to win drag races, but quick enough as a daily for me. These are my criterias, which is why I bought my S6 over the M550i. Every owner has their own criteria of their ideal car that suits their needs. These YT reviews looks through the lens of 1 perspective...the TH-camr. Its their opinion and thats it.

So happy I have a (2019) C43 from before they put a 4 cylinder in it. It's still not beating the M340i in a race, or on the track... but I'm never racing anyone, or on the track, so it's absolutely quick enough, agile enough, and sounds impressive enough for me to have a lot of fun and show off too. I saw people in the comments wondering why someone would ever buy a C43 over a M340i. Honestly I test drove them all, and instantly fell in love when I was behind the wheel of the C43. It sounded best, looked best (especially the interior), had a panoramic dual sunroof unlike the others, and the features like adaptive cruise control were available on a lot of used ones - I looked a LOT of used M340i's and couldn't find not one with adaptive cruise control, so that was a deal breaker. They're all dope cars to me. Well, not anymore since AMG went 4 cylinder lol.
This! I also have a 2019 C43. It’s fun AF to drive. The sound from the performance exhaust still makes me smile every time. Too bad they are making the engines smaller all across the board.
Yep. Had the 2020 and now 2023 c43. Still wouldn't go for the m340i. Test drove them twice, and just like throttle house said years ago, it just feels like a 330i with more hp. It wasn't enough feeling for me to pick over the c43. Both times.
Totally agree...I have my 2018 C43 as my daily and so much fun. I also drove the test drove a 340 and 540. They are great but just weren't as fun. Interior in the 43 is much nicer in my opinion
Had the 43 for a few months. I don’t understand all this slander. I love it. I didn’t want the fastest car. I just wanted a quick, luxury, sporty daily
Even with the C43 being close on performance off the show room floor they aren’t leaving much on the table for tuners if they are already pulling 400 hp out of their engine. If you took all three cars in for a dyno session and quick tune I’d imagine the BMW and Audi would get much quicker .
The same engine gives 421 hp in the A45S and it looks like a stage 1 tune will get you up to around 460, so it's not bad. If you want to go much higher than that, I'd imagine it would be much easier with the BMW (I've no idea about the Audi).
I would really like some telemetry data with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times in these shootouts. I'm a bit shocked these new C classes are so poor, its almost like the engineers collectively agreed to make the car junk to force the higher ups at Mercedes to bring back the V8!
That won't happen, they rather scrap all ICE engines completely than doing that. (and sadly rather kill the company) The fuel consumption over the whole sold modelrange dictates them to "lower theoretical fuel consumption" and they are going the way the former CEO steered towards and the current doesn't want to stray from. Mana strange and bad decisions in my opinion in the last few years from the Mercedes management.
If my B9 Audi S4 died today, I’d probably get the M340i. That won’t happen soon as the S4 has had zero unscheduled repairs in its first 57,000 miles. My main gripe with the BMW is iDrive 8 which we have in our i4. That interface is okay for a BEV but not a sporty sedan. The Audi cabin is superb and the dash can be configured with a proper central, round tachometer with digital MPH and gear position in the center.
You should! It's a very good car and it looks good as well. Coming from a hard core VAG fan, but I love how far BMW has come with how great the cars are to drive... I just wish across the lineup they looked a lot better, because otherwise they're pretty much perfect
I have the 2024 SQ5. I have Owned quite a few BMWs prior. My inclination towards S5 is due to better comfort and interior. Same reason to pick SQ5 over x3 m40i. Performance wise we are talking under half a second.
Agreed. I have a 2023 M3 and a 2023 C43. I did test drive a M340i as well. I love the speed on the BMW 100%. Though, BMW lacks interior in my opinion. The 2023 M340i and the BMW's new long tablet infotainment is going to be such a played out thing. Even the 2024 Hyundai Sonata is going to look like a BMW. With that said, yes BMW is faster but not by a ton. I think Mercedes did a great job at making a comfy car first and performance second. For a 4 Cylinder, it sure doesn't feel like it. Feels like it pulls harder than the M340i I test drove. (but on paper it doesn't). @@themercedestraveler9566
These are the Germans that me and my IS500 are probably going to avoid racing. There's no denying how competent that M340i is, and mad props for making something that competent in this class. S5 is beautiful. And the Mercedes is there. Anyway this class of sporty/luxury sedans remains my favorite in a world of SUVs and I'm glad all of them exist.
I would still buy the S5, particularly if I lived in the great white north based on price alone. Best looking car of the bunch. All 3 are fast, we get it. 😀
AMG and Factory Compromised aren't words you typically hear in the same sentence, but couldn't agree more. You'd think they were aiming for the Taxi market and that's as far as they evolved the model. On the plus side, you've got a wonderful Field of Dreams drag strip motiff going in this one. _If you race it, they will come_
Great points made in the comments! 👏 As someone who's passionate about cars, I gotta say-the B58 engine is a masterpiece of engineering. But let's not forget the M340i. It's the yardstick in its class for a reason-amazing blend of performance and luxury. On the other hand, I share the sentiment about Mercedes losing its touch. Best Mercedes for me was undoubtedly the C63 with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 and I currently have the pre facelift 2009 version. Raw power paired with German engineering-what more could you ask for? The 2003-2020 era was a golden age for the brand, and it's disappointing to see them veer off course. As a Mercedes customer, it feels like they're neglecting their roots, opting for tech gimmicks over pure driving exhilaration.
I'm actually kind of glad that the Audi performed the way it did. I like the Audi brand way more out of all the German cars just because of the looks alone. Now that I see that it can compete with the other 2, I can't wait to see what the 2024, twin turbo, 444 HP making S5 Sport-back has in store ! I'm actually thinking of buying it in all honesty when it does come out regardless though lol.
I went to Budds BMW looking at a 2021 M2 and I left as a new owner of a 2024 M2. Seeing it in person and right up against the 2021 M2 sealed the deal plus i wanted something that could be a daily driver which the new M2 is more capable.
@jak-gm Yeah, I read how he "married" a nine year old child I'm sure that was love. According to the Hadith, 57-year-old Muhammad ordered the death of 17-year-old Saffiya’s husband, father, and brother, before taking her to his tent where he raped her. She was considered the “booty of war” Allah promised. Another passage tells of Muhammad’s rape of Rayhana, a married Jewess of the Banu Qurayza tribe. After slaughtering all the men and some of the children, Muhammad saw how beautiful Rayhana was, and ordered his jihadists to bring her to his tent. Immediately after beheading her husband and family, he raped her. Boy does he ever set an example.

Love how brutally honest you guys are, idk why mercedes is throwing hybrid 4 cylinders in their cars, such an awful decision and I hope they don’t sell well.
The b58 is an all-time great. I have a f30 (prior gen) 340i MPPSK with the same transmission and very similar motor (m340i is a TU variant of my car’s) and my experience was that it was ahead of the s4/s5 and prior-gen C43 at the time (for speed, I personally think the Audi had the best interior, looks and tech). The s4 hasn’t changed materially and this c43 seems worse. My point is this: BMW is about a generation ahead of the competition, and now Mercedes appear to have miscalculated on their rebuttal. Audi, ball is in your corner. I hope for Audi to present a true contender, as much as I love the 340i, and how good the m340i is (I test drove). That’s how it keeps improving and winning is by being pushed by competition and it seems Mercedes whiffed. As a former Audi S4 owner (B8.5, I loved that car) I do wish the b9 was a little more exciting to drive. ea839 is a fine motor, but it doesn’t tune as well (you can hit 500 crank with two mods on f30 or one mod on g20 B58 powered cars once tuned for that mod) and the b58 has a lot more character. My main criticism of the m340i is weight, it’s 350 lbs heavier than my RWD f30. When test driving the m340i, it felt too similar to what I have already. (355 claimed vs 382 claimed, they’re both lies 😂) but 350 more lbs means it was close to a draw. I’d like to see Audi compete there as if they were closer in speed or tune-ability it might be the better car. Make a sportback S car with nearly 400hp (or dare I dream, over?) with that interior and tech and styling and you’d probably win me back. As long as it tuned well too. Currently the ea839 has too small a turbo to do much with sadly. Im happy to see these two knife fight into oblivion since it means we get better cars for it! Also Mercedes, the best course of action is to recognize that you failed the market (rather than the market failing you, it’s not that people don’t want sports sedans) and find a way to get a six back into your vehicle! It should be cheaper to make a high powered 6 and traditional auto than an insanely juiced 4-pot coupled with an electric drivetrain and that auto on top. Also less failure points… cheaper, faster, more reliable. I’m no car wizard but seems easy… Man I rambled. Love this segment of vehicle. Thanks for the content gents.
I bought a c43 back in June and had the same reaction to the jerky transmission around town. I had to go in and they reset the transmission because apparently there was some weird software glitch on my car. Not sure if that would have made any difference in the race but I love my car. (definitely do wish they had just kept the 6 though)

@@Raven77844 Yeah I guess, but it's objectively so far ahead right now that you don't need to love BMWs to see that.. And I don't see merits in this Mercedes, other than the badge. It has nothing else. Audi always feels good, though, if you don't care about dynamics that much.

(and sadly rather kill the company)
The fuel consumption over the whole sold modelrange dictates them to "lower theoretical fuel consumption" and they are going the way the former CEO steered towards and the current doesn't want to stray from.

Makes me grateful owning the previous gen C43
I’m no car wizard but seems easy…
Man I rambled. Love this segment of vehicle. Thanks for the content gents.
