Today when I walked into my economics class I saw something I dread every time I close my eyes. Someone had brought their XMG Ultra 17 to class. The Forklift he used to bring it was still running idle at the back. I started sweating as I sat down and gazed over at the 700lb beast that was his laptop. He had already reinforced his desk with steel support beams and was in the process of finding an outlet for a power cable thicker than Amy Schumer's thigh. I start shaking. I keep telling myself I'm going to be alright and that there's nothing to worry about. He somehow finds a fucking outlet. Tears are running down my cheeks as I send my last texts to my family saying I love them. The teacher starts the lecture, and the student turns his laptop on. The colored lights on his RGB Backlit keyboard flare to life like a nuclear flash, and a deep humming fills my ears and shakes my very soul. The entire city power grid goes dark. The classroom begins to shake as the massive fans begin to spin. In mere seconds my world has gone from vibrant life, to a dark, earth shattering void where my body is getting torn apart by the 150mph gale force winds and the 500 decibel groan of the cooling fans. As my body finally surrenders, I weep, as my school and my city go under. I fucking hate gaming laptops.

One thing to note is that only truly few games yet REQUIRED a full installation on the user's hard-disk at that point.
Many games instead opted to do a basic bare minimum installation of some few dozen megs, where as all the heavy data was played from the CD. This would be amazing for a music producer!! They could use it in their room for gaming on a big monitor, with the lid closed (assuming the cooling allows for this) and then bring it to the studio or a gig and have it run around 32 live audio inputs being processed (with after effects applied) all at once, and have no issues at all. Audio is so data heavy too, so the massive storage would make it easy to not have to swap external drives around all the time. This is like a dream laptop omg. It is me, I am the music producer who wants this laptop!

My Alienware 17r5 came with 2 full-size M.2 slots, an odd one about the size of a large postage stamp, and a 2.5" drive bay. It came with a 256GB M.2 and a 1TB hard drive. I replaced the hard drive with a 2TB SSD, replaced the one M.2 with a 2TB one, added another 2TB one, and put a 256GB one in the small bay. Thus, I have a bit over 6TB of space. Got a boot drive that also holds programs, a data drive, a game drive which is almost full, and a little spare space. I really like the twin coffee warmers on the sides, it really keeps the teacup warm. Also, headphones are needed when it's under load. I got it refurbished for about $2700, but then put in about $700 of upgrades, plus another $300 for the graphics accelerator and another $300 for the 2060. Turns out, a 2060 with 6GB has almost identical performance to the built-in 1080Ti with 8GB, other than the ray tracing. The Graphics Accelerator makes for a nice dock, but I could have used the USB-C port for that for under $100. Even with the new 30XX cards coming out, the Ultra 17 is going to shine for years to come. 8TB should be good for about 10 AAA games, or the core Microsoft Flight Simulator plus a light operating system.

The symbol under the "mystery" connectors at 3:58 (a long line over 3 short ones) is the international standard symbol for DC power.

It's seen as a caps-unlock in Deutchland, as you click it when you want to go into whisper mode.

If this wasn't already a hard buy, the announcement of the 3080 and 3070 kind of made the existance of the 2080 ti and especially the 2080 obsolete.. Soo now is a bad time to buy any of the 20 series and also 20 series laptops I think. RIP

I once had an HP notebook, the first generation convertible, back then still with pressure based (i forgot the technical term) touch screen, which came with two batteries. One for two hours, one for five hours. That was quite nice, I really liked it.

To all these people that are complaining about how Alex had mistreated this hardware and the audacity of it. I have a question for y'all. Actually several.
1.) Is it your money on the line?
2.) At what point does he do anything that actually put the laptop in danger?
He tosses it into the air, the laptop barely leaving his hands. Yes, he could have dropped it here. Actually, in further review of the footage, it wasn't even a toss. He drops it and catches it, his hands never getting more than 6 inches away from the machine. The only thing I take issue with is his smacking the edge of the monitor, though that wasn't even enough to make the chassis complain (creaking or popping). There was just a solid thud. In fact, I'm willing to bet there wasn't any effect on the pixels... smacking a monitor like that can cause pixels to turn off or on for a brief time, making the screen flash.
3.) What is the most sensitive component of a computer? I'll give you a hint, it's a now obsolete form of storage for anything other than large capacity.
In short, he didn't damage the laptop... I've put laptops through substantially worse than that and had them come out perfectly fine, even going so far as putting a dent in the chassis of my Dell ultrabook right above where the HDD is. It still works just as it did when I pulled it out of the box in 2014... though it's performance has always left something to be desired. It would lag out with me just typing in Word back when I could hit 150 wpm no problem.

Always had a soft spot for this style of rig. My first real machine in 2014 was the 2014 equivalent. Got it as a gift, and hell, for a mediocre but serviceable machine, it still holds up, aside from the graphics card. Processor is good, rams good, storage is good, the only problem is running a graphics card.
