  • Hello guys, welcome to my channel and my first time reaction to American Psycho from 2000.
    Today we're watching Patrick Bateman's descent into utter madness in probably the most unsettling and uncomfortable movie I've watched on this channel yet.

    I like the description of his character that says he’s a man who is just deep enough to know how shallow he is and it KILLS him.

    This is a highly acclaimed movie, launching the career of Christian Bale from supporting actor to leading Hollywood star. The commentary of self-indulgent Americans as seen through the eyes of a psycho is spot on.
    Fun Fact: In 2013, Funny Or Die recreated the "Hip To Be Square" scene with American Psycho with Huey Lewis and Weird Al. Huey Lewis himself played the Patrick Bateman role and 'Weird Al' Yankovic was the Paul Allen role. In the scene, Lewis discusses the film, its controversial reception, Christian Bale's acting, and its effect on Bale's performance as Batman. Rather than listening to a song, Lewis pops in the American Psycho DVD, and at one point he points to the television while discussing Bale as Bale is shown pointing at the stereo discussing Lewis. It ends with Lewis killing Yankovic saying "Try parodying one of my songs now, you stupid bastard!" The video ends with the song "I Want A New Duck," a parody of the Huey Lewis and the News song "I Want A New Drug."

    Great movie. So it's definitely possible that he's just crazy. Also possible that everyone is just confusing Bateman for someone else, and confusing Paul Allen for someone else seeing as how they did that all throughout the movie - and he just gets away with it because he's rich and his dad supposedly owns that big company and as his girlfriend said, he can "do whatever [he] likes".

      As I said, I think it's a mixture. He murdered people for real, but not nearly as many as he thinks or imagined.
      I'd say the ones he seemed to commit later are not real because there was too much that did not make sense.
      Allen could be true, but Elizabeth, Christie, all the bodies we saw in the apartment, the cops, the doorman and the janitor probably not.

    The film is underrated, but I've heard the book is absolutely mental. Not so much the violence (which is 10x worse) but apparently he does things like go into excruciating detail about his Hi-Fi system for an entire chapter. 🤔

      Makes sense, I read that the book was one of those that was considered impossible to make into a movie until they did it. Really makes me wonder how crazy the book actually is. xD

      @@AngusSees I was surprised that you found the music dialogue scenes awkward, I've always found them hilarious. He's pretty much just quoting thing's he's read in reviews or something, much like when in the start of the film he pretends to care about world hunger etc.

    I think my favorite part in the film is the business card scene because nothing they say about the cards is actually correct. Patrick's color is not bone. Bryce's card clearly does not have raised lettering, in fact it's the opposite. Allen's card doesn't have a watermark.
    Also, the strange little detail that Acquisitions is spelled incorrectly on every single one.

    Couple interesting bits in this that involves Christian bale later playing batman lol. Like he kills Jared Leto who later plays joker lol. So batman kind of kills joker in this lol. Just thought of this could have been bruce if he didn't become batman abd just ran a company or joins a company lol. Abd with everything he witnessed as a kid that'd why he's slipping off the deep end lol. Second thing that was funny was that shot when he chased that woman she's running down the stairs in a circle he stays at top til she gets off stairs abd on floor and right below him where he can drop the chainsaw on her. They have similar shot in the dark knight where he's chasing the scarecrow they get a bit away and start going down the what's it called where you're going down in a circular motion like with the staircase. He stays at top watching them descend and right when they got down to the lowest level or ground level like that girl did he jumps off and falls down like the chainsaw abd drops on top of them like the chainsaw did ti yhe girl. I thought that was funny how he's wielding the chainsaw in this and later in the dark knight he is the chainsaw basically lol.

    Find ich nicht gut, dass du den Film halb transparent machst. Ich hab das noch nie gesehen auf anderen reactor channels. Und es stört auch. Nur mal so als Feedback. Ich hab mal gehört sowas gibt Augenkrebs...😉

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ich weiß, dass das nerven kann, gerade bei dunkleren Szenen. Ich habe schon versucht Videos ohne Transparenz hochzuladen, in den meisten Fällen wurde das Video aber direkt vom YT Algorithmus geblockt. Und bevor ich einen Bruchteil meiner Videos ohne Transparenz und den anderen Teil mit Transparenz hochlade, ziehe ich das lieber komplett durch. Ich habe da auch nicht wirklich die Zeit um es jedes mal zu testen, mit Export und Upload. Ich würde es auch lieber haben, wenn ich 100% Density machen könnte, aber so ist eben der Kompromiss mit den 80% das Beste was ich machen kann, so leid es mir tut. 😕
