Engan Murugan Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Muruga located village of Engan near thiruvarur. Once there was a shirpi in Poravachery near Tanjore with devine blessings and being a devotee of Karthikeya, he made a beautiful image of the Lord. Looking at the statue of lord being so very devine and unmatched to any deitys image he had ever seen before the king did not want any replication of such a beautiful statue. He ordered cutting away the thumb of the shirpi. This did not deter the shirpi to make one more of lords image which he gave away to the temple of Ettukudi.
This defiance angered the King no ends and he ordered blinding the shirpi. This still did not deter him and he made one more image of Lord Karthikeya which he named as EnnKann, Enn means thought and Kann means sight. With no thumb to hold his tools and no sight the shirpi just needed the sight of his thoughts of his God and his endless devotion to make sculpt the image of his God
