The divers extension isn't flawed. It's designed that was to help ensure that it doesn't open inadvertently and cause the watch to slip off of your wrist.
If you haven't made the jump to a new Omega yet, I just got the 300 professional black dial on bracelet and am blown away. The quick adjust bracelet is awesome and super comfortable. The black dial looks like a mirror or silver or black depending on how light hits it, absolutely dances in sunlight. Great video!
I suggest that you try on the 43.5mm version, I have one with the orange accents and it has the adjustable clasp. It also has the 8900 movement, what's not to like?
I've had my eye on the 39.5 (tiny wrist) with the 8800 movement. Its 14mm-and-change thick, has a small-ish clasp with microadjustments. I've tried it on 5 or 6 times now and I can't fault it except for thickness. I am probably going to order one as soon as my Aqua Terra is sold.
I had this exact same reference. I replaced the clasp with the new, micro-adjusting one; it made a big difference! The Heritage SM 300 cal. 8912 is top of my list just now. The limited-edition has the 8800 movement, so no timezone function and a single barrel; not as appealing to me as the 8912.
I had one, absolutely far too thick. I loved the look, just didn't fit my wrist, I'm also not sure if this design will age well. I sold it. Replaced with an 2500 Aqua Terra in blue. Thanks for the video.
In cost loss or making a little, you have to consider that you got 10 years of use. So basically you got 10 years of use for free, not accounting for inflation.
Good video. I had Heritage 300 with Liquidmetal bezel and sold it, just couldn’t bear the polished bracelet links, never buying the a watch with polished bracelet links again
The phases of collecting are funny aren’t they? I went from 40 and under in the beginning…then 42 to 44 only then back to 42 max and preferably 40. I’ll still do a 44 in the right watch but like you said, it has to wear smaller than a 44.
Have the PO 8500 and I really like it, more than my Seamaster 300 8900, design wise. I hope in future they will release a PO chrono/GMT with 40-42mm in size.
I think you made the right choice man. It’s a beautiful watch but for all the reasons you mentioned it’s not your style anymore. I can’t wait to see what you get next bro.
I have a Seamaster and I like it a lot. I would think long and hard concerning the "No Time to Die" model. My friend bought it. Neither of us thought it was worth the price. Anyway, he packed it away and said in the future I will sell it to some fanboy and make a killing.
I enjoy my 43.5, but had to ditch the bracelet. The clasp has multiple sharp edges that just chew up the underside of my wrist. Put on a leather strap and it's excellent.
The heritage is an absolutely beautiful watch. The only part that is a downside for me on the heritage is that it has the polished links sometimes, the outer, sometimes the inner, but I wish they’d make more bracelets like the PO with a brushed link.
How funny, I had almost the exact opposite revelation just this last week after having just decided to sell my PO 2500 45.5 which I chose at the time because that toy-like Rolex thingie with only 300m was just too puny and the orange bezel, with matching orange alligator strap, was so much cooler than that weird green bezel. So before selling, I strapped on the old beloved 2500 for some nostalgic wrist time before parting, when lo and behold, I fell in love with it again--AND for the first time in my watch-wearing life, a girl who wasn't a stripper noticed and complimented my watch, and then asked me all about it and what was it that made it seem so special. To make it even more special, she was actually a bonafide Swiss woman, a classical singer, voice trainer and dog walker. How can I part with it now after such validation? I wish I could say I stopped at 45.5, sadly, but alas my next purchase was the Breitling reissue Chrono-Matic 49, with the semi-perpetual 1461 calibre with the super 70's Panamera Bronze dial and a nearly impossible to find at the time OEM shark-mesh bracelet, mostly because it is what I imagined Kevin Bacon's super groovy character in X-Men First Class wore, plus it was close to what Dave Chappelle and other ballers were wearing at the time. Ahhh, the 2000's...
So it’s interesting me how lucky I got. I have the Seamaster 300 Heritage, 8912 movement in blue. I knew about 20% as much about watches before I bought it, as I do now, and I’m staggered by how lucky I got. The planet ocean isn’t the oldest line, but s beautiful, well-executed watch in its own right. You don’t have to get a 44-45mm version, it does come in 39, with most of the same benefits as the largest models. I believe the newest iterations have micro adjust in the bracelet, but I could be wrong. But my watch has none of the downsides. Staggering, bright lume. Micro adjust. Comfortable, beautiful flat bracelet, tapering, with micro adjustment. It’s about 14.5mm, so still on the thick side and yet not they bad. I wear it under fitted shirts all the time. I have a small wrist and it wears large on me, but not too large. Thick, but not too thick. It’s absolutely beautiful. I love my watch, and I’m extra grateful knowing how luckily it worked about as practically the perfect watch for my life - even that jumping hour hand plays a huge part. I travel A LOT and it gets used regularly.
Did you look at the 39.5 mm Planet Ocean? It is 14.1mm thick, and does have the micro-adjust bracelet?? I like having the date complication. The 300 Heritage unfortunately lacks this.
16 minutes video of most excellent and useful info! That's the model I was considering, so the insightful in-depth is a huge help, thank you. Some disappointing elements if spending for it new. Will probably opt for the easier to find 43.5mm. I still have more appreciation for larger sizes, but maybe some day that will change. Odd how our perceptions influence our buys. A good decision to let it go, I think.
I agree with this video and what you said. I spoke to the Omega AD about that side helium Escape valve but I understand that it's a Landmark on that piece of real estate on your wrist that from a distance you will know that is in a Omega. I am planning on purchasing the 43.5 mm with the orange rubber insert on the bezel soon with both straps. Just a little reluctant because I do have my eye on another sports model Rolex which lets be honest on paperwork the Omega is a lot better. I'm also looking at the new Tudor Explorer homage. I just don't like those freaking rivets on the side of the bracelet that has no functionality for it.
I have the same (in orange) for more than 15yrs, wife’s present, so I will never sell it. Like you when I was younger I liked chunky, today not so much... I have put it on an orange omega rubber strap and it wears better, lighter. For you, what about an aquaterra? No helium escape valve 😉. Or a moonwatch (get the 1861, not the coaxial one).
I'm not surprised you've sold it. I used to like bigger watches and now I prefer 38 to 40mm. Anything I notice the feel of too much doesn't get much wrist time.
Great video… I also own this watch on the rubber deployment strap which makes it much more forgiving, I did buy the steel bracelet and after wearing it you totally nailed it on why it makes this watch uncomfortable, I’ve put it back on the rubber strap now which also compensates any wrist swelling. I’ve always found the lume v good in all honesty, great watch but best worn on a rubber strap
you should have gotten the new 43.5 mm. its 16.2 mm thick but it wears like a 12-13 mm tall watch. because the thickness is measured at the center of the crystal, and the crystal plus the angle of the bezel add like 3 mm, then the case back sinks almost entirely into your wrist, thus the apparent height of the watch is really only the edge of the bezel. which if you add those two things together the watch actually wears like a 10-12 mm thick watch! i have a seiko SLA-039 and its thickness is 15.4. but it looks a good 2 mm thicker than my planet ocean even though technically its 1.7 mm thinner. the new one has an in house movement which is probably the best movement out there. mine gets like +0.1 to 0.4 seconds per day. also has on the fly micro adjust. i bought it a year ago and probably will never sell it.
I can agree with you, when i was younger i wanted bigger watches 44-45, never smaler, but now when ” we are wiser ” i go for 38-41,5 😇.. at least for me 😉..
I believe that there's a 42mm version of Planet Ocean. It is a grail watch of mine. I do have a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Wak2110 at the moment, and I do love this watch, as it resembles a bit of the Planet Ocean, but a bit dressier. Just curious what will happen if I get my hand on this watch...

It's probably a landmark for that piece of real estate on your wrist. So in a distance you know it's an Omega when you see it.
Chris, did your PO exhibit the hour hand being misaligned at the top of the hour? It sort of looks like it in the video. You do realise the reason it's so thick because it's specifically design for professional diving and not for daily use? Because it's for deep diving, it's thicker than usual.
