Thank you for giving such complete instructions! I replaced my switch yesterday using this video. I couldn't get the water line detached, so I left the part dangling to the side. I was able to get the lever you press to release ice & water off & replace the switch. The hardest part was the getting the first component off. Go slow, don't force the parts apart or off the door. Took me about 1.5 hours start to finish. Thanks again for showing the way!
dude you are a lifesaver. switch went bad and I broke the big flap out of frustration, which then made replacing the switch easy because it was exposed haha but then I couldn't get the new flap in. had to go through this process to do that. THANK YOU. would have been easily a 200$ job for an appliance guy. no thanks
Hey fellow DIYers! I have had the same symptom with water staying on after releasing the level in 2 identical LG fridges in the past year. My issue was the screw holding the white plastic “L” that triggers the relay had gotten rusty and would not allow the L to rotate as it needed, but the relay was functioning just fine. I was able to repair this WITHOUT REMOVING all the stuff removed in this video. I simply pulled the bottom half of the large gray lever out of the slot but leave the top in (this step is not easy!). After removing the small spring, I was able to slowly unscrew the rusty screw using a ratcheting 90 degree screwdriver at this very weird angle. I then matched it up to a new similar screw I had, and screwed the new one in (holding the white L) with the same tool. Then I replaced the spring, and carefully (but it takes a lot of force) returned the paddle to the original position. No special parts needed, but this screw failure might be unique to humid places like Hawaii where I am. Hope this helps someone!
Many Thanks Ben! I would have never guessed the way that comes apart. 20 minute job because of your instructions. My issue was an intermittent ice/water dispenser and found it was due to corrosion on one of the switch terminals from the hard water and splashback. Bought a 2 pack of 6600JB3001E switches on Amazon for $7.28.

Great video. The water tube release needed a bit more explanation for me being a noob but this saved me somewhere between $200 - $700 which is what I was quoted. Thanks!
Warning - At 5:45 when using screwdriver to pop off lever it broke off one of my hinge pins. Be very careful. I’ll try to super glue it back otherwise I’ll be looking for a replacement. Cleaning/sanding the contacts on my micro switch resolved my slow to activate water/ice. Thanks for the insightful video.
Thanks a lot for the video. I went for 5 weeks vacation to find out the dispenser stopped working. I turned off/on the refrigerator hit the lid multiple times, and suddenly started discharging constantly. I wanted to open it but it was hard and the screen was flimsy, it would break if I tried harder. I managed to pull the entire cover in one piece to find out that Best Buy sold me a replaced door as a new refrigerator and they forgot to return the bolts. I bought two for $12 from Amazon and worked like a new one. The funny thing is, the old one started working like nothing was wrong with it just a little salt was jamming the spring 😂

Impressive Ben, especially doing. it all one handed. Good information and one handed gamer work. Replacing this $20 switch that is apparently has a very short life span, replacing it should not be this difficult. Our refrigerator is five years old and replacing this switch for the second time. Your video is excellent and was able to follow it al the way to taking off the level paddle that hides the switch. My LG model is LMXS28626D. Yours is S and mine is D. I'm afraid to force the level off the two hinge points. If I break one of the brackets holding the pin, I'm screwed. Going to try and find a service manual for my model.
Your video was a major help as I changed out the switch. I believe the cause of these switches going bad is an occasional dip of water as ice is dispensed. After I was all done I thought…I should have put the switch in a deflated balloon. Oh well…thanks again.😊
Ben this was fantastic!!! I just performed today. My switch was still good but had a lot of frozen hard snow all over... cleaned all out, vacuumed, and washed parts. Used a hook/pick tool to clean all out as well as ice chute. Steady as she goes and anyone can do this on their own...

Thank you so much for this video! I just replaced the switch in mine. After taking it out, I could see it getting stuck if I toggled it by hand a bunch of times. One thing; I had water leaking from the hose on the funnel assembly after putting it back together. I guess pushing it in by hand wasn't good enough (it's hard to get your hands in there). A long pair of needlenose pliers allowed me to push the hose all the way in to just shy of a black line going around the hose.
Thanks so much for this. My refrigerator is fine, but the ice dispenser flap is disgusting and a nightmare to clean. I think this level of disassembly is the only way to ensure that everything is cleaned properly! 🤢😀
7-14-2024 The LG repairman yanked out the gray dispensing lever without removing anything else (it breaks of course). He replaced the microswitch, and fiddled with a new dispensing lever to get it back in place. First on broke.
Hey Ben! So I’m having a similar issue but mines a little different I’m getting a constant 12v to the ice flapper motor and it will not shut off even with the micro switch not depressed. I changed the old motor because it was toasted due to the constant running of it, as I fiddle with the micro switch lever it still will send a constant 12v
Yeah I would say there is something bad with the control board. If the micro switch isn’t the reason the signal is being sent to activate the ice-maker, clearly there is something else going on. If it still happened when you had the micro switch fully disconnected, then there is an issue with the control board. That’s my hypothesis as well. Maybe see if the board has any kind of debris or contamination on it that would create a false “closed circuit” signal from the micro switch?
@@benparker3111 Yeah I was maybe going to go down that route but for right now we don’t use the ice dispenser only store it in the bin in the freezer. Although my pride is getting in the way of letting the fridge win this one. I know fully it’s the board now I disconnected the connector from the board its self and the 12v disappears to the flapper motor. I don’t know the much about circuit boards and was hesitant of trying to repair this one, also I don’t know where I would start to try and find the diagram of the board to even see what circuitry to begin looking at. But super helpful video all in all by the way it, love seeing alike minds get to digging on these home appliance repairs!
Ben! I have the same door. My water just dispenses by itself. Randomly. After you dispenses water a few minutes later it'll dispense by itself. Then it'll dispense by itself multiple times a day. It's it the switch? Secondary water valve? Primary water valve? I'm at a loss. Thank you!
My door was having the same problem, and the switch was the reason in my case, hence the video to replace it. The temporary fix was to lock it out. But if it’s having that problem even when you lock out the switch, that sounds like a problem with the actual control board possibly 🤷🏻♂️ Unfortunately I have gotten rid of the broken door and don’t know what the part number is for the control board (there’s only so much junk I can keep in my garage 😅)
So yours was just Dispensing randomly also? Interesting. I can't seem to find many people with that issue most replace the switch because it won't stop dispensing. Yes, it would dispense randomly, I think it was because the switch had corroded due to an electrolyte drink powder I like. I would put the powder in the glass first, so when I would add the water the powder would splash up and I guess there was enough salt in it to corrode the switch. I’m only guessing if it’s not the switch, that maybe there could be something wrong with one of the boards, possibly the board in the dispenser itself, but it’s really conjecture on my part. I would try the switch first if you are going to do anything, obviously it’s the cheaper part.
Nice job, Ben. Thank for putting this video together. I actually have a different problem that you likely know the answer to. The bottom, right 'U" that holds the bottom of the lever in place has broken off. I cannot seem to find any videos that support the whole dispenser assembly coming. I have seen that you can pry out the inset piece on other models, but not this one. Did you happen to poke/pry around to see if it comes out? I tried to epoxy the piece back on to no avail. Thank you!
@@johndonnelly4370 So I tried just prying it out, and so far its not budging. It feels like it is actually glued into the assembly of the door or door foam. I did some digging on the LG part site, and unfortunately I think that is indeed the case. So it looks like you would have to buy the whole door to replace that one stupid little piece :( PART: lgparts.com/products/add73656064 you can then reference that part on ebay for a picture of the bare bones door assembly. Sorry, wish I had better news.
@@benparker3111 thanks Ben. That's what I expected based on all the exploration diagrams I looked and videos of all the dispenser units being pried out from model after model with exception to ours. Super glue and epoxy failed at keeping the bottom piece attached when I tried to install the lever without taking this apart. This time I'll super glue the piece and break it all down like you did so I can reinstall the lever more gently. Fingers crossed. Thank you again for your time!!!

@@htxb I got the switch replaced OK and everything’s working again now; however, I snapped one of the plastic loops that holds the “push lever” (piece with the spring) in place. I superglued it and it seems to be holding…good luck with yours!
@@DarrinMartinVW I got mine done too. However I didn’t replace the switch, I just worked it a bit til it stopped sticking. I’m sure it’s not a permanent fix but it works for now. I snapped a few tabs too. The control panel doesn’t sit as flush and tight to the fridge door as it used to. Oh well.
Do you have the link to the other video you refer to (from another country)? We replaced the switch easily but getting the lever back on is proving difficult.
I am not entirely sure what you are trying to ask but the switch that I am replacing in this video is both the water and ice dispenser switch depending on which function you select on the control panel: "Cubed" "water" "crushed" .
@benparker3111 I was hoping for a different switch for the ice, but it wouldn't make sense for it to have 2 switches there I guess. I have the same fridge, mine won't dispense ice but the water works. No sound or movement from auger, just the sound of the ice door opening/closing. Same situation when ice bucket is filled or emptied. I replaced the auger motor & still no change. My problem is something else, unfortunately.
Yeah that is definitely the downside of aging plastics, I lost a few clips on the button panel on the fridge in the kitchen, luckily it’s sits flush enough not to be too noticeable. To your point, it does take more pressure to get the flap off than you would expect. I haven’t tried looking up that part to see if you can get it off of Amazon. I love how the tech manual tells ypu about the left and right clip only and that's it like they want ypu tp break it

My water dispenser stops running when I release the switch but water drips down from behind the switch, not from the dispenser opening. Any thoughts?

Also I disconnected the micro switch and it’s still getting a signal to activate the flapper motor, pcb problem maybe?

Haven’t tried, i believe the ice maker assembly has to come out for that. But I will look into it as soon as I have some time.
