Wow! Thank you SO much! I am a 69 yo grandma and with your help I was able to fix mine which had the exact same problem. A few tips to anyone else doing it- pay attention to the configuration if the gadget that moves the bar holding the flap. Also when replacing the flap mechanism pay attention to how you put in the spring so it correctly puts tension so the flap closes.
Wow, i had no idea what was wrong with my ice maker, but after watching this I pulled off the panel and it was THE EXACT same issue. Thanks for this tutorial! Got my ice maker working in no time!
I have to say this is one of the best, if not the best, DIY repair videos I've watched. It was tricky at times, but the quality of the video and the steps shown were fantastic. Total cost of the repair, plus my time and a little aggravation, 19 cents. It would have been half that, but I bought two different length screws just in case :-). Thanks!
Props to you. I have an LG fridge similar to this and mine was broken identical to this. Your video was perfect and I was able to have mine fixed in 1 hour. Thanks, you saved me a few hundred bucks!
I've had LG repairman out for 6 times. Could never get the icemaker working properly. Finally gave up and watched this video. Saved me a bundle. Great job. thanks for making it. appears to work fine now.
My fridge had the exact same problem. I had called a service "expert" and was told the problem was a faulty switch which would cost $400 for a service call to repair. Your video was bang on and easy to follow. I did use a bit of superglue to strengthen the post but otherwise did everything as you suggested and 'VOILA' my icemaker is working again..Thanks for the very informative video,
This was the exact fix I needed for my LG. Same screw post, same fix. 1 hour and $1.27 for the screws. You've saved me time and repairman costs. Thanks a million.
Mine has been broken for about as long as you've had this video up. I've just been too lazy to fix it. You made it look super easy and I decided to try. This was the exact problem. Took less than 10 minutes to get rid of an annoyance that I've had for years. I can't say this enough Thank you!
I never make comments about these videos but feel compelled to weigh in on this one. I followed the steps depicted here to a T. Discovered that the issue described here was exactly my issue. And the repair was easy and very doable. 2 things. For anyone counting or keeping score, I did break one tab. Also, long curved nose forceps are a handy tool to hold the stand-off in place while turning it to find the matching broken surface. Very useful video.
This is EXACTLY what happened to my fridge, and precisely the video I needed. Great tutorial; easy instructions. I didn't trust your #4 screws, and bought something closer to the size I was replacing. After figuring out why you used #4 screws, and a return trip to the hardware store, all is well. Thank you!
This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I had the exact same issue. It makes me wonder if this is not a design flaw. Perhaps LG should have used 3/4" screws to begin with. Your video was well made, and you took your time and explained everything clearly. LG quoted me a repair cost of $400, well technically $399. Ha. Thank you so much!! Have a great one!
Watched this video to find out how to make this repair.....gave us confidence and was exactly what we needed. Our icemaker is working perfectly again! THANKS!
DUDE.... this is the exact problem I was having. Thank you so much for your amazing video. Thank you for the tip about drilling out the broken piece. Thank you for showing the EXACT screw I would need (I was able to buy just one at ACE for $.06). I cannot tell just how help this video was and how grateful I am. I watched your video last night. This morning I removed the panel to confirm that I had the same problem, drove to Ace to get the screw I needed, fixed the problem, and reassembled everything in about two hours. I can't believe it was that easy. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You saved me so much time and money. Great video!
I have an LG LFX28968ST/02 which is very similar. I spent a lot of time looking up this model and viewing YOUTube videos trying to find one that shows almost exactly what you've done here. Now I feel confident pulling my front panel out to get to the dispenser area. Excellent video. Thanks for your help!!!
Perfect video! Exactly what happened to my LG Refrigerator. I was shocked to finally get the panel off (I didn't break any tabs!) and see the screw was broken off from the back. Used your method and drilled out the old piece and used a longer screw. Works perfect. Thank you, sir, huge help!!!
Thanks for the instructions, I've been thinking about digging into our refrigerator for weeks now, but didn't want to break it to find out how it comes apart. Same problem as yours, broken mount post. 👍
I am sharing this on Facebook strictly so people realize how nasty it gets back there. We just bought a house and found black mold in ours, your video was extremely helpful so thank you!
Oooohhhhh thank you! Flap wasn't closing and it was EXACTLY THAT SCREW. LG should have a recall on this! The only thing I'd add is that if you dare to try to superglue the broken plastic piece, you may end up with superglue on your hands, your tools, etc. 42 Cents, for a pair of screws of slightly different lengths. It's a bear to get the panel off, but the fix was just as you showed!
I must thank Google for helping me find you. Terrific professional video and explanation. Very clear and right to the point! I don't need to be entertained by some fancy animation at the start. The video was very clear and stable and your audio was also very clear. I don't quite have the same problem. Mine has a sticky ice switch that is difficult to stop the flow of ice once triggered. Knowing what needs to be done to gain access to what is behind the switch panel will do it for me. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Our flap was stuck open, I followed your steps and discovered it was the exact same issue. Had it fixed in an hour including the Menards run for screws. Saved me a bunch of time and money.
This was very helpful. I realized my unit was full of mold and wanted to get it clean. I would have never got it apart without this video. I was pulling really hard and it didn't feel like it would let go without breaking something. Finally it did "pop" and I continued to work it carefully. No broken tabs. I'm not sure the putty knife was necessary. Looking at the tabs, once it was apart, it looks like pulling straight out would have been the best bet. Thank you for doing the research.
Thank you for this video! I had the exact problem once I opened up the dispenser. Your video was so helpful in showing your solution which I used too. It’s literally 10 cents to replace the 1/2 inch screw with a 1 inch screw and that would have likely prevented the part failure in the first place. Thanks again for taking time to video this and to share it!
Our Fridge is 6 years old and had the same exact problem. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the panel off without snapping a couple of the tabs. Still saved me hundreds on a repair man or thousands for a new fridge. Thanks the walk through
Congratulations on your video ..! I looked a lot but couldn't get that ice maker out. Thanks to you I was able to know how to remove it ..! I am from Venezuela I don't speak English but I understood when I saw his video how to get it out. In fact, I translated this letter to send you a cordial greeting and to express my gratitude to you .. !! A thousand blessings..!!
Thank you for posting this! My son and I fixed our refrigerator today following your guidance. Only cost me $0.13 for one screw at Ace Hardware! Thank you!!
I am very handy and like to do all of my repairs. But honestly, I had no idea how to tear into this icemaker. Outstanding video made it absolutely easy for me to fix the repair. Mine was broken the same as the video so all I had to do was clean everything up and go to the store and buy the same screws that you displayed. Thank you very very much for making my life easier. Great video.
Same for me. I fixed mine today. The break was in the exact same spot on my fridge. I used auto trim removal tools to remove panel. Only broke off one tab.
Not the same part was broken on mine but your video gave me the step by step to get everything off, find the problem and use your idea of screwing through the plastic to fix the broken part. Thumbs up man.
Please add my name to the list of folks that your video helped! The problem was exactly what you described, with that broken post. Also a good tip to drill out the broken piece to allow the screw to pass through. The front bezel was a pain to get off but I finally got it, the rest of the fix was easy. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video. I had the exact same problem with the broken plastic post. This video saved me some money. Grand total of $2.79 spent on repairs!
I had the same exact problem with my LG LFX28968ST fridge. Your long screw method fixed it! Hardest part was opening the ice compartment from the door. Thank you!
Thanks for this video! I was using a prop rod I made to hold the door flap shut for over a week. I finally decided to find out how to access this area. Found your video and it was the exact same broken post. Never would have guessed the panel would be clipped in like that.
The problem was exactly like the one in your video. My fridge must be a newer model since the removal of the icemaker insert was easier and did not require moving a lever through the ice chute. I was hesitant at first but I got an estimate for repair which included a diagnostic trip charge and are turn trip with parts. Calculating it could be a $500 + service repair, I tackled the project with faith in your video. I appreciated the advice of NOT using super glue, which totally made sense. I also used a 1" screw so hopefully it never happens again. Seems like this issue is really a manufacturer defect? The Grok Shop Rocks!
This was the fix for my flapper. Been broken for about 6 months and wife always complaining. Thank you so much for putting this together. Great tutorial. So happy to finally have a working flapper that doesn't let the air in there and freeze together all the crushed ice and it gets stuck.
I used this video to guide me through replacing the entire dispenser. The video is perfectly accurate. I first removed the door handle, it is held in place by a set screw with a hex head at each end. Remove the front dispenser carefully using a putty knife wrapped in painter’s tape so you don’t scratch the front of the refrigerator. I also placed painter’s tape on the stainless steel door face surrounding the dispenser to further insure I didn’t scratch the refrigerator front surface. All seven electrical connectors are unique so you can’t misconnect the new wires. Pull apart each connector carefully with your fingers, some have a snap fitting to hold them together. I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to separate the smallest connector. After reconnecting all the wiring, simply snap the new dispenser in place. Tools required- hex head tool, putty knife, painter’s tape. Easy peasy- 20 minute job.
I can't wait to try this. My LG is 12 years old. The ice dispenser still works perfectly but the light stopped working. And when I shined a light up inside the chute, I was shocked to see all of the mildew. These disassembly instructions will help me to access the flap and other interior parts to clean them. I cannot understand how LG could make a product that cannot be easily cleaned. Do you have any tips of how to repair light that is supposed to come on when dispensing ice ?
Wow obviously LG needs to design a better hinge point on their ice dispenser flaps... thank you for a quick, direct to the point, step by step guide. As others have stated I had the EXACT same issue and your video saved me a lot of time and money. Great job
Video was perfect! Drilled out the broken piece bought a longer screw. I also was able to use your video to see how the water parts go back. Thanks so much!!
This might be the best DIY video out there. Every necessary step shown, workarounds for inevitable contingencies, and more. The 3/4" #4 machine screws 5:00 were just the right size, too. Thanks!
Terrific video, thank you. I repaired my 4 year old LG LMXS27626 ice chute door using this. I agree that removing the dispenser door was extremely difficult. I went very slowly, used far more force than I thought I would have to, and eventually got the dispenser out after about 45 minutes. All tabs were intact, somehow. I had prepared to repair the screw post as you demonstrated, but much to my surprise, my problem was simply that the opposite side spring was not installed correctly! Incredibly easy fix, once I got the dispenser out of the door. I suspect it came from factory this way. I have had occasional problems with ice/frost jamming the chute, but seemed to be happening much more frequently lately, and the COVID-19 quarantine finally gave me enough time to trouble shoot! Thanks again!
Huge help and was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for putting this together and sharing. Super easy and quick. I actually spent more time cleaning/removing the mold than the repair itself.
Second time this video has saved my arse. I had mold in there and took it apart to clean it. Watched the video about a 100 times for one small part that I was having an issue with. Finally fixed it. Had the repair company coming tomorrow but canceled them. Thank you so much.
Excellent step by step video on the same issue I have. Unfortunately I am not that handy. Meanwhile I will have to resort to putting the ice cubes in the freezer drawer (ice maker still working). Later I will see if my son-in-law wanted to attempt the repair after viewing your video. Thank you!
We have an LMXS27626S with this failure. I used a combination approach to removing the dispenser cover, first the putty knife to pop some tabs loose and then tugging a bit. It came loose after about 15 minutes. The same post was broken. The post and interior are black. I removed the retaining clip and the left spring came off while I was fixing the post, so I had to figure out how to reinstall the spring. Reinserting the dispenser is much easier than removing it. Great video, just what I needed. Thank you for putting it together.
Wow thank you so much!! I have been without ice for months. Finally went on here and followed your instructions. My problem was exactly what yours was. EXACTLY!. Did the fix and we now have ice. I only broke 1 tab! Thanks so much.
Thanks for showing how the dispenser is disassembled. My issue isn’t a stuck flap but the ice chute and water controller have completely disintegrated. Went to get ice and small screws and springs flew everywhere! If I can get replacement parts it looks like they’re easy enough to replace. Otherwise I’m shopping for a new, non Korean built fridge.
This video was a huge help to my issue. I have another lg model that is similar to this style. After watching this video I was able to remove the water/ice dispenser just like the video tip. I cleaned it up and replaced the cold water water/ice lines. I definitely recommend this video for anyone trying to replace their water/ice dispenser line.
Thank you for taking the time to create this very clear and concise video. I'm seeing this video AFTER having an LG service tech visit my home three times to repair the ice maker. The problem I'm having appears to be a flap that is not sealing tightly. It open and closes when activated. This is causing water to periodically dribble out of the chute. It was a similar problem we had with a Samsung refrig in which the Samsung tech just replaced flap assembly unit - problem solved. I explained this to the LG tech and said the problem was with the ice maker - which he ordered and installed. Knowing how the flap assembly works will hopefully help me recommend to the LG tech, who I'm getting to know pretty well, to replace it. LG - Life's Good! (only when your appliances are working correctly)
Had the exact same problem. Broken screw post preventing the flapper from closing. It was a real pain removing the panel and broke 3 clips. Lots of mold inside there too. Should be easier to remove for cleaning and repair. Used the longer screw as recommended and all is good. Thanks for a good, to the point video without any fluff and padding!
Thank you so much for posting this fix. You may have guided me towards the solution for replacing just the LED panel cover (mine got damaged due to humidity dark spots). However, as you pointed out, replacing it is almost prohibited, as I cannot manage to open the cover to replace it . So simple, yet so hard to reach for an opening...There is the risk of damaging the edges of the control panel itself while trying to reach for the cover, hence creating another bigger monster. I will try to find someone that could help me, and will save your detailed video as a DYI guide. Many thanks again!
This was my exact problem on my LFXS27566. Thanks. Saved me some money and only took 35 minutes, including cleaning. That was a design flaw to put in a screw half the length of the post. New screw is twice as long.
This was brilliant thank you, you are a lifesaver! Was exactly the issue I had in our LG. Fixed now, and oh my wife now thinks I'm so amazing!!!! Thank you again.🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the post. Different model fridge but same in door ice maker. Exact same problem. Screw post broken. Followed your instructions and had it fixed quickly. Many thanks for taking time to post this fix.
Thanks so much for making this video. This was perfect for helping me fix our problem which was the exact same issue - the same plastic post broke. Works great now. Your video helped me get over the fear of taking things apart. Wasn’t bad at all. Bravo!
This was the same exact failure on my ice maker, and I followed your same fix, by replacing with a #4 1" screw. I used a $3 suction cup from Harbor Freight on the bottom left to start pulling my panel off.
Worked like a charm. I removed to clean up the black mold and to repair the rust that had started under the dispenser. All tabs remained intact and my fridge looks almost new again.
Wanted to say great video same issue did what you demonstrated, lost only 2 tabs as predicted used longer screw cleaned Inside and now works like a charm and saved me $$$$ in repair bill keep up this videos and thx again
Thank you for this! I have a slightly different model -- LFXS24566S. I can confirm that this model has the same design flaw and the fix was identical to your instructions. Great job!
Great video. On mine, the “standoff” was split so I had to superglue it. Then 2 days after reassembly it broke off completely. Followed the video exactly and so far it’s great. Thanks very much!
Nice tutorial. If the plastic system is not broken, check the micro commutator of the ice panel. Make a short circuit between the two wire. If the ice door is now opening, the micro commutator have to be replace. Cost: around 3$. Good luck!
Thanks! I used this a reference and had the exact scenario. Fixed it, and it works great. I popped the flapper bar off, and struggled a little with the springs.
Had exactly the same problem. Must be a design problem with this model, also happened after approx 5 years. I owe you a beer. Your video saved me probably $200+ repair bill if not more.
Exactly the same for me, after about 5.5 years, this just happened to me! I've always had issues with the ice dispenser in this fridge. I will not be buying an LG fridge in the future.
You did a great job with this video. Got right to the point without long drawn out chatter and editing the disassembly process with quick motion(I hate watching guys take screws out in real time) Getting ready to do this repair now.
Greeting from Australia. I had to fix the ice controller button which had broken and this video was helpful with that task as well as I could see the process for disassembly as well as the switch spring location in the background. A+ thanks!
Wow. That would have to be the best no nonsence repair vid I've seen. Its even the same model as mine so im sure to get it right first go from the information in your vid. Well done!
Thanks for the rundown. I’m excited to say that I only broke 2 tabs! They were two on the top. If you’re able to learn from my mistakes, just make sure you take the time to work out all of the tabs before yanking out the panel.
Great video. TY. Exactly the same problem with mine. Must be a common problem. I guess its to much torque on the plastic piece. I ended up putting a longer screw and that worked. I did break 1 tab.
Thank you so much… we have been so frustrated with our LG refrigerator ice maker we were ready to just replace the entire refrigerator… (yes I know a bit excessive of a reaction) Well now we have a functioning ice maker and all is well in the home. Well until the next time an appliance decides it’s time to break again.
You the man, my screw broke in the same position as yours, I would’ve taken off the whole inside panel if I haven’t seen your video,I use a needle nose pliers to hold the plastic piece while I use the magnetic Philip screwdriver to put in the screw, work fantastic and it only cost 19cents.Thanks
Great video!! Well presented and I appreciate the minor details that are so important. My LG ice dispenser won’t stop dispensing ice. If I have to, I’ll refer to this example. Not the same model, but I’m sure it’s an approximate example. Cheers!!🎉🎉
Wow! Thank you SO much! I am a 69 yo grandma and with your help I was able to fix mine which had the exact same problem. A few tips to anyone else doing it- pay attention to the configuration if the gadget that moves the bar holding the flap. 5 years after you posted this and it just helped me fix my LG LFX28968ST with the same issue. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
Same!
This is EXACTLY what happened to my fridge. Thanks for the video! Screws sure have gone up like 5x since in price since you made this video
Wow, i had no idea what was wrong with my ice maker, but after watching this I pulled off the panel and it was THE EXACT same issue. Thanks for this tutorial! Got my ice maker working in no time!

I bought 3 screws for $0.41 :). Inflation
Props to you. I have an LG fridge similar to this and mine was broken identical to this. Your video was perfect and I was able to have mine fixed in 1 hour. Thanks, you saved me a few hundred bucks!
I can’t thank you enough for this video! Took us about an hour total to fix our broken screw issue! Thank you!! Felt so accomplished yesterday! 🎉

This video saved my bacon and money. I did exactly what you said to do and it worked. Thanks so much.
This was the exactly what happened to our ice dispenser and this video helped me fix it without any issues.. You rock sir!
I think this identified a similar problem with my LG fridge - when I get around to it, I will fix it - and it will be easier thanks to this video.
Thanks for this video! I was using a prop rod I made to hold the door flap shut for over a week. I finally decided to find out how to access this area. Found your video and it was the exact same broken post. Never would have guessed the panel would be clipped in like that.

Had this EXACT problem. Took me like 15 minutes to fix it thanks to your video!
Than for help me
Second time this video has saved my arse.
Thank you!
One of the BEST instructional videos I have ever seen. Well done!
Thank you, just fixed my flapper. Opened it up and it looked exactly like yours. Wife is happy.
This video is exactly what I needed to fix the same issue. You do a great job with the step-by-step. 1 million thumbs up!
Great video, exactly the same problem I had Thanks! Tip: I used automotive door/dash trim removal tools, worked like a charm with no broken tabs.
Thank you!!! Took me 20 mins from start to finish. And zero dollars as I had a screw that worked just needed to drill the hole a little bigger.
Thanks, bro! Great vid, and I now know how to take out that pesky ice maker panel in the front of the door! I REALLY appreciate your video!
I had literally the exact same issue with my LG....this fixed it and saved me a bunch of cash....thanks!
Thank you for this! I have a slightly different model -- LFXS24566S. I can confirm that this model has the same design flaw and the fix was identical to your instructions. Great job!
Thanks! I just needed to get mine open and clean it, but I watched your whole video.
My same problem. Great video, very helpful. LG customer service couldn't tell me how to repair.
Thanks a lot man! Crazy that all these break in the same spot. Great video and great advice!
Very helpful. Thanks. Hoping that 3/4" #4 Pan head holds up for years to come!
Had exactly the same problem. Must be a design problem with this model, also happened after approx 5 years. I owe you a beer. Your video saved me probably $200+ repair bill if not more.
Interesting.. I was wondering how common this issue was. Other than this issue, ours has been a stellar performer. Thanks for the feedback!
Exactly the same for me, after about 5.5 years, this just happened to me! I've always had issues with the ice dispenser in this fridge. I will not be buying an LG fridge in the future.
My LG is about four years old and exact same failure. Thank you so much for the video. Clearly a design flaw.
Thank you for taking your time and create this video. Specially when fast forwarding while doing what you just explained as opposed to jumping ahead.
You did a great job with this video. Got right to the point without long drawn out chatter and editing the disassembly process with quick motion(I hate watching guys take screws out in real time)
Getting ready to do this repair now.
lol @ real-time screw extractions. Thanks so much & good luck!
Best repair video I’ve ever seen. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Greeting from Australia. I had to fix the ice controller button which had broken and this video was helpful with that task as well as I could see the process for disassembly as well as the switch spring location in the background. A+ thanks!
We fixed our ice maker today thanks to this video, we had the exact same issue. Thanks so much!
Amazing, gonna try this soon. Flap has been stuck open for a long time. Losing a ton of cooling I'm sure.
Great DIY video! Exactly what was wrong with my LG ice flapper also. Obviously another defect with this LG model.
My LG fridge is broken, the exact same way. This video was perfect to help me fix it.
Thanks! I actually broke my chute taking out the rubber to clean and I didn’t know how to replace it.
Perfect. Same break. Used #4 1inch stainless to fix. Added the shoegoo or goop for a little more hold. A+ video
Thank you so much… we have been so frustrated with our LG refrigerator ice maker we were ready to just replace the entire refrigerator… (yes I know a bit excessive of a reaction)
Well now we have a functioning ice maker and all is well in the home. Well until the next time an appliance decides it’s time to break again.
Awesome Rick! This turned out to be my exact problem! I couldn't have done it without this video.
Cheers!!🎉🎉
