  • At some point, you will need to make some suspension locations adjustable. This is important so that instant center can be adjusted to suit your needs. In this video, Bryan is installing Merilatt Racing Upper and Lower torque boxes and TRZ adjustable lower control arm mounts.

    Take and clamp a piece of aluminum on the back side to pull the heat out of the material. It's called a chill block. Also heat is relative to time, the more you slow go the more heat and distortion you get with the part. Go as high on amperage and fast with travel speed as you feel comfortable with. Keep it up!

    So many people do their motor, tranny, cage, diff, and ignore the suspension. They are busting axles, going through the joy of radial tire shake and then replacing axles and playing with the tune. PEOPLE!! While you are here watching TJ weld up adjusters for the four link pay attention! If you are hitting your bumpstops so hard they explode, you'll never get a decent 60 foot. Dragshocks and adjustability. You can stay with leaf springs but you need to do it right. I'm not going into it but the old man on SRC does a great job setting them up.

    Do you plan to get the cage\frame certified? Can you educate us on the different index classes and the changes in requirements as you drop in time down the quarter mile? Seems hard to decide on a target without knowing what financial\hardware requirements necessary for each.

    the more comfordable you are the more consistant your welds will be. Tig is 10% setting 90 comfort and practice. Its not big movement its little motor controles you have to develope. Rull of thumb. A welder wont stand when he or she can sit, sit when he or she can lay. Keep putting in the work John. you will get better man its all about watching the corners of the puddle and getting the heat control down. Since you are new you should try more of a lay wire technique. Say like a 1/16 rod letting it rest in the groove and washing the heat over it. thats how pipe welders do it

    • @chadalac1977
      @chadalac1977 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pipe welders walk the cup bud , but still dab there filler if not the filler burns in the wrong spot !

      @@chadalac1977 I was a pipe welder for 6 years or so man. Im just trying to give this man a little help lol. obviously when you walk the cup you feed some also. but i suggest anyone starting off tig welding (freehand welding) not walking the cup to get torch control 1st and feeding the wire will come.

    If you look at the Merrilat tig welding (hope that's spelled right) you can see the heat marks are small. The color isn't a half inch wide. And my welds are worse than yours. I know one thing. Time, as in after the strike arc, is heat. More time, more heat. I'm going to try bigger rod, moving faster, a bigger cup for more gas and cooling...and whatever else I come up with. Know it when I see it, can't get there to save my soul.

    No hate at all but I think most of your problem with your welding is you're not comfortable. You got to lay your hands on something to keep them steady and do a dry run before even hitting the pedal. But when you are welding your boxes you were holding your hands in mid-air.

      If the stock ones rip out 30’ into a pass and send you into the door of a competitor then you will realize why they are needed. I dont know the silver surfer but if the car is fast the stock boxs are reinforced, tied to the cage or both
