    Angie, I gotta say that you have some great videos. I have learned so much from you. In the last three years, I have gone through 3D pen, resin, Cricut, tumblers, and now I'm into sublimation. When I think of all the money I've spent on this stuff. Wow! Especially the sublimation stuff. But every time I got into something new, I could always find some helpful information on your channel. Thank you for all of your great videos.

    Excellent video!! I've used all of these techniques and my fav is the white MDF also. I like how vibrant the print comes out on the white. I also use Emory boards to sand the excess laminating sheets around intricate letters. Works great but time consuming. My Dremel works fantastic for sanding also. I just wanted to let you know that the paper easily comes off once cool with some water and a little rubbing with your finger in both the polycrylic and the painted surface. I have great results with both. I did not have good results with the laminating sheet as it peels right off the wood. :(

Just FYI, I did a sublimation directly on a bamboo cutting board by sanding off the factory finish and applying a sealant afterward. The ink penetrated nicely. I use an Epson ET-2803, starting from new with Hiipoo ink (They sell it with the correct fittings to fill the ET printer tanks), A-Sub paper and a Vevor 5-in-1 heat press. No surface preparation materials were used.

    I know this is a late comment. On the polycrylic, you can rub the paper off with a wet sponge like mod podge. So it doesn't have to be a complete loss. You just need to be careful while rubbing not to go thru the ink. Then coat again with polycrylic and it will be vibrant again.

    For the wood wood project where the sap was coming through, I wonder if you painted it with one coat. Let it dry, then cover it with protective paper and put the heat press on it for a few seconds, then paint it with a second coat and repeat the process until you don't see the sap coming through. Then add the lamination sheet and continue. I wonder if that would help to cover up those sap marks.

Now for this next one I’m just assuming that it will do the same thing because you put polycrylic coating on top of the white paint I’m assuming you could do the same thing with that one too.

    Hi you did not mention the type of paint, or maybe the white ones were just pre-painted. "Rust-Oleum Do it Best High Heat Enamel" would withstand the heat (it's for BBQ grills) and it comes in white. May be worth trying. So first protect the wood with something that can withstand the temps. The big H is real wood (maybe pine). The little H is plywood (probably birch outer layer). That is another variable. Everything you showed was very helpful. thanks

    I like to buy the wood letters and use the acrylic pain from the dollar tree and put two coats on. Then I use the laminate sheets and sub. The colors pop better. I've tried the letters that were already white but they didn't come out right

    I want to make a fairly large pool sign for our deck, If use a painted mdf wood panel and sublimate it, will it be weather resistant in the summer. I can only print 8.5 x11 on my epson printer. There is a 1/4" and 1/2 " MDF wood panel, also does the paint have to be matte?

    • @AngieHolden
      @AngieHolden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue with sublimation outdoors is UV light. The light will fade the print quickly. Generally when you purchase a sublimation blank that is made for outdoors, the coating they put on it has some UV resistance. With this method for wood, you won't have any UV resistance. I would try to find a top coat that says it blocks UV light.

    Hi Angie what a great video, and very informative!! I was also wondering if you have tried the 651 vinyl instead of the laminating sheets? I sell sublimation designs and have tested but I always like a second opinion as well as offering another cost effective alternative to my customers. Thanks so much!! I have sent several customers here- to learn how to sublimate on wood :)

    also, instead of using a knife for those hard-to-get places once you've cut off. Use a piece of sanding paper sand downward and cuts that paper right off & nice too.

    I’m only 12 minutes into the video, but I wonder if painting the wood white, and then laminating would work?
    Also, does it feel like the laminate sheet could peel off the wood easily over time?

    • @AngieHolden
      @AngieHolden  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did do the painted/laminated on wood, MDF, etc later on. It did not feel like it would peel off at all. The only thing on the chipboard I pointed out that the layers wanted to separate on me.

    • @AngieHolden

      The EasyPress should work I would just keep it within the size of the EasyPress you have so you don't have to press twice. I think that would leave a line in the sheet.
