    Nice... one thing where the truss wins even if they're a bit of a nightmare with stray light ingress is they are far easier to collimate. You can see the secondary directly with the OTA lying nose down on a table, and also see the laser return beam directly and not have to rely on reflections etc.

    • @zzfactor

      I totally agree with that. I just needs some clear nights. I have been collimating my a%% off. I'm collimating my collimations. :)
      I am also going thru my focuser setup in SG Pro. I did one night a few days ago and it was a total failure. Couldn't get a good auto focus to save a bitc%%s life!!. I will have to spend more time tuning the sesto senso with SG pro. It may have had something to do with less than good seeing?. I use the Farpoint laser collimator and Farpoint cheshire, and the Howie glatter laser collimator with the circular attachment. We will see if I hit the mark.

    Thank you very much zzfactor! This video is the best one on youtube to get a complete overview of this astrograph for mounting points and design. This is better than the product pictures or the orion video on TH-cam. May I ask what you personally use for collimation? I have some suggestions, but your suggestion from hands-on experience would be more valuable.

    • @zzfactor
      @zzfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark C,
      I use a number of methods. Some tools that I use is the Howie Glatter with laser dot, concentric circle and square grid attachments, the Farpoint laser collimator kit with the autocollimator included, and the Ho Tech SCA laser collimator. and a crazy use of a video camera with a remote monitor. I may be working with someone on a software solution soon but I can't speak much more about that. This is a very cool one of my many hobbies and I can hardly wait until the weather is better so I can get out and use my scopes.
      I replaced the focuser with a Feathertouch focuser and put a Sesto Senso motor fucus unit on it. I raplaced the DSLR with a ZWO ASI 1600mm Pro main camera. I replaced the guide scope with an Orion ST80 80mm objective, 400mm focal length guide scope.

    Brilliant. Can you please share some Galaxy images you captured with this. I am always confused on the output of galaxies for RC. I generally find newtons producing better galaxy images, and am not sure if that is because mostly galaxies are captured using newtons relative to RCs, or thats because of the optics.

    Hello and thank you for the video. Do you think it is a good scope? I thought about picking up either the 12" or 10". I have a Meade 10" LX200 Classic with the Super Wedge but I haven't had much time to use it. I thought about purchasing the Meade 16" LX200 ACF F/8 or F/10 OTA and there's an $800 difference from the F/10 to the F/8 but the OTA's are way cheaper than getting the whole rig for $20,000+ and I already an Antares 6.3 Focal Reducer. I figure I could either manufacture a mount or have one built but I'll definitely have more time on my hands down the road to dedicate more time to Astrophotography and star gazing.

    • @zzfactor
      @zzfactor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi frankmmiii,
      Yes, I do think that it's a good scope, but due to the nature of RC scopes with precise collimation procedures it's not for everyone. I have loads of collimation tools and methods but don't regret it at all. I also have a Meade 10" and enjoy it too. I got my first light panel and am ready to check it out when I get the chance to.

  • @Sakkie
    @Sakkie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice Video. I would like to see your guide scope connection to the scope. The meade is secured on the plate on top of the scope, that I understand. I too own a RC 10"

    • @zzfactor
      @zzfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I changed the setup and put the meade 70mm quad apo on its own mount setup as it was intended to be, it has it's own guide scope now. I replaced it with an orion 80mm scope. since it has such a long distance throw for focus, I had to include a long extension tube and stabilizer to combat differential flexure.

    @robertbennett6410 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is the scope I am saving for, question for you, how have you found it to be?? What about the collimation? Easy/hard and how frequently??

    • @zzfactor
      @zzfactor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Robert Hope all is well.
      I really like this scope! Any RC is a real task to collimate, I have a number of complicated methods that I use that are difficult to explain for collimation. I purchased five expensive collimation tools for it including an artificial star. I also purchased a feathertouch (again, very expensive) focuser that works like a dream coupled with the sesto senso focus motor. I also got a shroud to help with off axis flaring and a four piece dew strip system. I hardly have to collimate my 10" Mead schmidt but I collimate the 10" RC maybe about every 4th time I use it. This is overkill but being a cinematographer I am use to dealing with optics. I have the ZWO ASI1600mm pro mono cam on it. I know it sounds like a pain but I am 100% glad I got this scope.

      I have some additions on this setup, A feathertouch focuser, an astrozap shroud, four strip dew heater and controller and an 80mm guide scope. I have used the new focuser, very nice unit. but have not had a chance to test out the new guide scope. I was going back and forth between testing it as a guide scope and doing a two camera imaging setup. But it's different now. Hi Splortz,
      Welcome to Rochester :) The OTA is 35 lbs. but I have a lot of stuff stacket on it. I am continuously adding new items to it incuding support gear. The latest is the feathertouch focuser which makes auto focusing much more accurate and repeatable. I also got the astrozap dew shroud which cuts reflections and ground lighting. Once the virus is put behind us we can look into star parties again. Hopefully soon.
