    I bought the Orion 10" on your German Equatorial mount if I remember correctly in 2001. I have never been dissatisfied.
    I also purchased a few higher end oculars from Orion. Orion Telescopes and Binoculars was then and I'm sure still is awesome!

    I'd love to get this scope, but it lacks the one feature I need most: it can't see through clouds.

    A nice upgrade from my Orion RC6 but i need a bigger boat (JAWS), 10" will do.

    I’m curious about the chance of stray light getting thru, do you offer a fabric shroud that would go over the truss’s like many of the high end DOB’s offer to block stray light?

    Can you actually look through a RC scope? or is it more for astrophotography?

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Steve. You can certainly look through it but this telescope features design elements made for astrophotography. A feature like a larger secondary mirror would mean that these OTA's, for visual use, it would behave like a slightly smaller instrument. It's really aimed primarily at advanced astro-imaging.

      @@oriontelescopes Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to know 'if' as you mentioned you can, just a bit smaller. So perfect for me, I wanted something for astrophotography and didn't want to buy another scope for casual viewing. Thank you for the feedback

      @@OzSteve you'd be much better off with the Orion (if Orion is what you're set on) 10" Astrograph for a dual purpose scope. Using this for visual observation would be more than a small step down, it'd be more like stepping down to a Tasco, (so says a friend.)

    Is this ACTUALLY a decent focuser, or is it going to need to be replaced for serious astrophotography? Is it the same focuser as the one on all the other GSO 12 inch RC, um, I mean, on all them GSO 12 inch RC scopes?
    And how good are the mirrors? I never see specs on these GSO, um, I mean on anyone's local master crafted RC mirrors.

    Has the baffle issue been corrected with this?

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. A small initial batch had a baffle that was slightly too short but it was redesigned with the proper length and has been for quite some time now.

    • @oriontelescopes

      @@peterleveillee1321 The 12" Truss TC has a great focuser and has proven to be robust in our testing, the rear cell male threads (and the threads on the extension tubes) are 117mm diameter by 1mm thread pitch. With that said, we understand that every scenario is different and everyone has different needs for what they're looking to achieve. If you would like to discuss the 12" Truss or any telescope more in depth, we invite you to contact us by phone or email and our knowledgeable Tech Department can provide more details: 1-800-447-1001 or support@telescope.com.

    Can We use This Scope for Visual Astronomy ?

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, the larger secondary mirror does cause Ritchey-Chrétien telescopes to have less visual contrast than a comparably sized Newtonian reflector, but other than that there's no reason they can't be used visually.

    how could you do solar with this?

    • @oriontelescopes
      @oriontelescopes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We don't have a solar filter for the 12" RC and we generally don't recommend solar viewing with a truss-designed system. Sunlight could shine down through the open trusses and present a dangerous situation if the system isn't properly light shrouded to fully block out the light.

    The longer trusses do not oppose the shorter ones as he described, as compression and tension are not acting on the same side. The trusses would oppose mainly gravitational forces pulling on heavy components, from the secondary mirror on one side of the mount to the primary mirror on the other. So one would find tension on the upper (further from earth's center of gravity) trusses and compression in the lower trusses. Put two barbell weights on opposite ends of a somewhat flexible rod and you will quickly see the result of the forces these trusses are opposing.

    Hello, would this large focal length be suitable for planetary or lunar close ups

    • @pduffy421
      @pduffy421 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I'd go for a f12 in this type of scope as it would have a smaller secondary obstruction and would be better for the planets and moon. Seems only the 8 and 10 inch are available at f12.

    • @MikeHammer1
      @MikeHammer1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use a Barlow 2-3X magnifier. That will increase focal length proportionally.
