  • This tank was one of my favorites to see from this trip! Check out the info below! ↓
The PzKpf Ausf. F was the last standard variant of Panzer II, produced from 1941 until late 1942. It saw service through to 1943 with reconnaissance units.
Weighing in at 9.6 tons, this light tank was powered by a 140 hp Maybach engine to speeds up to 24 mph (40 km/h). Armed with a 2cm KwK30 L/55 main gun and one 7.92mm MG 34, later models were equipped with a 7.5cm Pak40 gun. Manned by a crew of 3, this tank had a maximum range of about 120 miles. Armor thickness ranges from 30mm to 05mm from front to rear of the hull, superstructure, and turret.
This tank was part of Panzer-Abteiling 190 (Panzer Unit 190), which was assigned to the German 90th Leichte (Light) Division in North Africa. In the spring of 1943, it was captured by U.S. forces at the Battle of El Guettar. It was then used by the Americans as a driver's trainer, to teach U.S. Soldiers on operating captured German vehicles. Eventually it was sent back to the Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.
This vehicle currently resides at the National Armor and Cavalry Collection at Ft. Benning, GA.

What a beautiful piece of history!!! Love the early panzers. Thank You Sofilein, for taking us on a walk down memory lane. Let us remember what we all die for and not to do it again!

I watched it again. This is still one of my favourite videos of yours. I feel like I'm there with you just taking it all in. All the rust & scratches, looking like it just rolled off the battlefield.
I'm an artist and I love to draw & paint mechanical things. There is so much on that tank that's visually interesting. Not just as a whole, but so many small pieces that make it into what it is. I could spend several weeks alone just drawing it.
I think they should keep it looking just like it does, it's beautiful.

In a video like this you can truly appreciate the whole mechanical poetry of the tank,
and it takes a very special person to feel it, and awesome skill to pass it on "film".
Cannot be faked, either you have it or you don't.
    Sofilein, Thank you!

Oh I really liked this walk around! The music, as usual was stellar and the close ups through that open port allowing an inside look was my favorite shot. Would have loved to have seen what was in that open grate at the back of the tank. Also kudos on getting through the narrow passage way going around to the front of the tank without bumping into anything and jarring the camera.

Now this you could drive to the grocery store.....for some good Dark pumpernickel..some fine beef n pork sausages...sweet n sour potato salad...butter..wine...Beer of course. And your Panzer! How Sweet! Let’s go for a picnic...maybe a little quail hunting? It’s pretty good off road...and it’s got swivel bucket seats..stereo. Cup holders. Cooler...for the beer. Sausages cooking on the manifolds with the potatoes....yummy! Those bigger Panzers are nice...but scare away the quail. Nice!

    Dear Sofilein!
What you meant to write in the description is that the tank destroyer variants(Marder IIF and Marder IIA-C) were equipped with the PaK 40.This turret is just simply too small for a 75 mm gun.

OK I need to seriously ask this. I was at Fort Benning a couple of years ago to see these awesome tanks but was told there is NO museum at all. That there was just garages with tanks and that access was not allowed. Yet I keep seeing people post pics of their successful visits to these "garages". Yet I am just allowed to see the few tanks at Patton Park. What is REALLY going on there? Is it just closed of to the public? If so how are people getting access? Why was I denied then? I traveled from FL to Georgia to see them. This is not just a 1,2,3 car ride. I live near Tampa and the distance to a bit long. We have VERY, VERY few museum's down here with tanks and those that are here, well at least the ones I have been too, have ZERO German tanks. It's frustrating to see people getting in but I am rejected.

No it is not open except for memorial day and perhaps some other days. It is not a nuseum, it's a workshop.

It is also a light. It has reduced area of illumination for driving at night and still hopefully not attracting too much attention. Many call it a "Notech" light as that was one of the manufacturers.

intense! Love tanks! Hate how they ate people up. Particularly a Nazi tank. This type seems special. Not as heavily armed or armored, but a kind of pinnacle of terrible perfection in it's original meaning... an off road anti personnel/anti vehicle design. My dad's dad rode in one during ww2. Don't know what type or theater or position as he never talked about it. I don't think he rode in one because he liked them. It was a means to an end and the way home.
