Just started using these last night. Holy schmoly! I can finally get down what I'm hearing in my head without having to explain it to my band members. The drummer can also pull rhythms from any sample track or follow your scratch track. Incredible.
Thanks, this was really great--have tried to view a few other explorations of Session Players, yours is by far the best. Would love to see more nitty-gritty details of using this, as I am relatively new to Logic!
hey that was great - thank you. Please keep sharing your thoughts with these new tools. like yourself i can hardly wait for what apple and openai are going to do in this realm - the possibilities are astonishing
I just decided to comment as well. I like the fact that you tried superior drummer 2. The possibilities are just endless. Yeah and you also mentioned other options like guitar session players and vocals session players might be added. I look forward to that as well. My creative mind was just spinning as you were tweaking. Thanks for sharing.
If you can already sing your songs to an arrangement you know works with guitar or piano, then these session players can do wonders. Just like singing your song to real session players. You can take thigs bar by bar or even down to two beats when honing in.And that was only with the LAST Drummer ! After all, it's the top line melody that people listen to.
What about using the session players to add to your own productions? All of the videos/tutorials i seen so far are using the session players to come up with the initial ideas......i dont often have that problem. Id like to be able to use the session players to inspire/add to what i already have.....i guess in a similar way to how drummer can "follow" the bass in an exiting song...
That's a great point and is also my primary use case - as something to add, not as initial composition. Would you want me to make a video that's more in that vein?
@@JustWriteMusic wow yes that would be great….thanks for replying. I often have tracks written, but they are just lacking those final touches and flourishes that perhaps the session players could add…or at least inspire.
@@NumbnutSounds Absolutely! I think they're going to be great particularly for repetitive texture parts that will have more variation than alchemy or a sequencer
I'm not a Logic user, so I've been trying to figure out what is "AI" about this. It just seems like its a Toontrack knockoff with less flexibility but a bit more mystery. Seriously don't understand why Apple considers this AI. The ability to use your Drummer thing with Superior Drummer, is just MIDI mapping. It's been standard for decades. Are Logic users just really easily impressed?
Being able to map MIDI seamlessly like that without errors or parameters mixups is nice. Toontrack's Smart Drummer is definitely awesome, and I think was superior to Virtual Drummer. Remains to be seen if the update will live up - but for me, as someone who writes and records heavy music, the fact the session player doesn't have a metal genre is frustrating. But then, why would I deny myself the joy of playing drums in the first place? Laziness haha
@@Bluemusic66 If you actually compose and arrange, why would you need a program that does it for you badly? Logic is for hobbyists who can't figure out bass, drums and keys on their own. It's lazy. Takes a lot of work to create listenable music. This ain't it.
@@huntoriginalmusic-wy2rc well it doesn’t arrange anything. And songwriting has multiple aspects. Lyrics, melody, vocals, rhythm, instrumentation. Chord progressions are a dime a dozen, so having a bunch of pre-canned is nothing new. If a person is a vocalist with no instrumentation skills then it’s a great tool to help with writing easy backing for their ideas. At the end of the day Logic is not a ‘toy’ for hobbyists. 99% of people who record with DAWS use about 5% of their capability. So it’s just wankery when people call things like Logic, and even Garageband toys. They record as well as any DAW (it’s all fkn digital), and Logic has 99% of the features that most people need. Side chaining, buses, automation, etc. Just because they add a new fangled capability, doesn’t mean as a standard DAW it isn’t ‘pro’ level. And you can bet your arse Pro Tools, etc. will follow suit. In fact you can use a myriad of plugin’s that basically do the same thing now. So are they ‘toys’? Anywho, doesn’t matter if people like you are yelling at the clouds, ain’t gonna make a lick of difference. This stuff is here to stay. And it’s only going to get better. And I say this as a 35 year ‘real’ musician who plays ‘real’ instruments and have been songwriting for over 30 years. You use whatever tools you have at your disposal.
I wonder how useful it’ll prove to be - Logic drummer was always recognisable in a track and I wonder if use of these tools will be too. They’re great for getting going though.
So they updated the samples in the logic drummer, and it sounds much better. Same for the piano and bass. The piano especially sounds so authentic. I love these tools for inspiration
"Logic drummer was always recognisable in a track " only from people who know it. So unless you're writing for Logic Pro users it doesn't matter. And of course you can change the sounds, and even make a MIDI pattern from the drummer part and edit it
Have you tried loop ????? its a buggy, when you set your project in Major keys, than loop works fine but if you set your project keys in minor your loop root not will be jumped to 4th note chek with indian instrument tabla drum
There is one big glarrng flaw. You have to manually write your music one chord at a time; for the entire song. Session players will not allow you to play real time chord progressions or drag chord progressions from a midi region.. this has potential and nice features but the inability to handle that basic function makes it very frustrating to use in musical context.
This is only a flaw if you’re actually physically capable of playing said chords. As a drummer who can’t play the piano to save any lives this is sick for me 😂
Huh? It’s a first step. There are 1000s of looped chord progressions to use that you can apply to session tracks. I’m sure chord recognition will be in future updates.
It's a joke. 'Band in a Box' meets 'Toontrack EZ....' only it's badly implemented. They could have fixed all the issues pro creators would like to see fixed but they chose not to (except for 'real time bounce in place', and even that is not well implemented as it's 'automatic' and will only work with the I/O plug in connected. Most pro users will ignore all the 'toys for 10 year olds' and just use it in its basic form... which hasn't really changed for years.
I agree, I think these are beginner / intermediate tools, as well as quick demoing tools to see if an idea checks out before through composing it.
