I love my Miyoo mini plus. It isn't rare to find it right now. I and two of my friends have bought them recently. It's probably the best handheld emulation device I have ever used.
I bought the V4 in transparent blue, I love the colour (I wish the Mini+ came in this colour). The build quality isn't as good as the Mini+, as my unit has a somewhat lose battery cover. I find the Mini a good console for Gameboy games and anything that doesn't need use of both shoulder buttons, switching the triggers around so L2 is L1 and R2 is R1 does make it more comfortable when playing GBA and SNES (it's great for Pokémon). I do think that for PS1 the Mini+ is far more comfortable. Where the Mini shines is playing it for short bursts, like if you are waiting in a queue or have a few minutes spare. Sure, I would have liked if the Mini V4 had wifi but it doesn't bother me that much. I know there are complaints about the V4 not having a screen as good as the V2 / V3 but seeing as those are being scalped I don't mind paying a lot less for a somewhat inferior screen. That's the hope. Maybe software can improve the handheld a bit. I love the 16-bit era, so I'm all about SNES games. GB/GB/GBA games are great on the MM+, and they could potentially be better for the MM V4, but getting used to the size is another issue. The MM+ just feels more comfortable for me.
I absolutely LOVE my Miyoo Mini v2! It's so awesome and feels great in the hands to me, fantastic screen, superb battery life, etc. It's perfect to me and very portable. Now what I don't understand is the complaining about how small it is and that there's no WiFi for Retro Achievements, but you're not going to aim for achievements using this tiny little device anyway, right?
Oh heck yeah. I loved using the Miyoo Mini Plus for its WiFi to play Pokemon and other games with my son. Then going from that to the Miyoo Mini V4 that is lacking Wi-Fi is a big drawback for me. Retro Achievements was why I started using the Wi-Fi, but playing with my son is what I've used it most for.
I’m comparing both side by side, an GBA looks slightly larger when integer scaled on my v4 than my plus. It also seems to be scaling 3x to 720x480 on the v4, and I’m noticing Retroarch is making use of the full 560p display and not just stretching 480p image to 560p, so it looks pretty sharp. I mostly use it for GBA, and the other consoles I play on my Retroid Pocket 2S, so it’s been working better for my use case than the plus.
I’m finding the miyoo mini+ gives me massive letterboxing when integer scaling gba. I had a v2 before u bought the plus, and the plus felt like a downgrade to me other than the screen size and WiFi. Just picked up the v4, and I think the resolution issue being referred to by the video was fixed in a firmware update, and I’m noticing I can actually use usb-c to usb-c and higher wattage chargers with the v4 (not the v2), unlike the plus, so I can actually use my iPad charger to charge my v4. To straight up call the v4 a downgrade is a bit of a simplification of the user base, to be honest.
@@baldlyrudy It looks like mine came with the latest version of Onion pre-installed, looking at the patch notes I see what you mean. I do wish the overlays were redone to account for the 560p screen. The ones that rely on integer scaling or grids are based on a 480p screen, so I ended up altering them in PS to make them work on the v4’s screen. Overall I’m still happy with the device, though the battery life could be better.
I just purchased a plus and I'm happy it's the available one cause I think the mini is too small to be my main device, I still am glad they make them though. I think it would be cool to have a transparent blue one and just use it to play stuff like pokemon/jrpgs one handed and to have a truly ultra portable device that is still big enough to use fairly comfortably
Yeah, with how similar in price this is to the MM+ it would be crazy to get the V4 over it. At this point, the MM seems like more of a novelty now that the MM+ is on the market. MM+ is bigger, has a better screen and wifi. Literally no reason to ever go with a V4 imo. Personally I'm in the market for one of these and its between the MM+ and the 35xx. The 35xx screen looks amazing, but no wifi and a worse Dpad seems like the deal breaker for me to go the MM+ route. The screen on the MM+ still looks really great in the videos I've seen. And I'm going to assume that if I didn't see it side by side with the 35xx I wouldn't even notice it was slightly worse anyways.
Agreed. And yes, if you didn't see them next to each other, then you wouldn't even notice the difference in the screens between the MM+ and the RG35XX.
I'm in the same boat is you with wanting a miyoo mini but not getting one and getting larger handhelds instead, I ordered the v4 the first day it was available and immediately it became my favorite handheld. It is not really meant to compete with the mini plus or 35xx, it is to have a small handheld you can chuck in your pocket and not even notice and for that it is absolutely perfect. The screen to me is not noticeable at all that it isn't Pixel Perfect, only hard-core retro gaming elitists will even be able to notice tbh the screen looks fantastic imo. There is no better handheld to keep on you 100% of the time than this one.
Each has their strength. The mini+ is better gaming experience, comfortable, but it takes too much space in my pocket for me to carry it everywhere I go.
I skipped on the MM+ worrying about the size being too small so I went with the 35xx instead. When I got it I was thankful I went with my gut but even then the 35xx feels a tad unconfortable, can't imagine the regular miyoo mini size tbh.
I love the form factor of the v4. So far it looks really good to me. Onion 4.3 beta , GBA and PSX looks amazing (have to check other console) Button‘s work easy. My best small form factor device. Love it. In my collection is RG351v, DS lite, Pocket Go v2, Switch lite and GBA Advanced. PS: Would I buy it again? Without thinking.
Good review! I was planning on gifting a retro gamer friend of mine a simple retro handheld. This one does look a bit too small to comfortably play for awhile. I will definitely have to check out your video regarding the comparison between the Miyoo Mini Plus and RG35XX as I'm really torn between those two. They both seem like good options.
2.8” screens are very cute but for actual use a 5” screen is waaay more comfortable. I know we’re all trying to recreate our childhoods in a way and “back in the day” these devices had dogshit screens but, be an adult, buy a big beautiful screen, you’ll enjoy it more.
@@Mister_Phafanapolis It has nothing to do with being a adult, people have different tastes, some people love the portability of small screens and some not, be an adult? Really? Is common sense for different people, you have your own tastes, you don't force your tastes on everyone, is how companies sell products, according to different tastes, so that's why the build different things to sell even more for those who like different ways of playing, etc.
@@mattb6522 I highly recommend to buy both, and see what you see fit and like the most, than if you don't like the other, you can sell it a bit more the price, and you get your money back, is a win win, you don't lose anything, and in the end, you are happy.
Its a bummer i also recieved the V4 but its my to go to handheld over the plus. I always took my MM+ on my commute in tokyo and loved the size and pocketability and now its even smaller, so small that I'm able to play simple games one handed on the train! Love it, maybe i can find one of those black berry screens some people in the comments have said and do a replacement myself. Would love to get that sharp original look out of my games.
I remember my first smartphone, it was a 2.4" LG Vue that I bought secondhand from some 3rd party cellphone recycler at a kiosk in the mall. It was all I could afford at the time. I remember taking it to another kiosk to buy a case for it and being blown away when the guy running that kiosk showed me his iPhone 3G with its massive screen at the time lol. Nowadays, I consider 3.5" to be the absolute bare minimum screen size on my electronics, and that goes especially for these retro handhelds. Anything smaller is just too much of a strain on the eyes and hands IMO. Also, I am loving my MM Plus (which I bought because of your previous video), seriously I find myself reaching for it more than my actual Nintendo Switch lol. Keep up the great content Rudy! (feels weird to call you that when it's my name too lol)
Haha! From one Rudy to another, I appreciate it. I've been loving my experience gaming on that thing. Though I have been reaching for my Switch for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. That game is all sorts of good times.
I think the mini has an amazing screen and colours. Im a giant too and the small size hasnt shockingly not bothered me. For you I think its becase you got used to the Plus.
Does ANYONE know where I can get a replacement shell in a different color!? I've been using my Miyoo Mini v4 and Mini+ and like the Mini v4 but I would love to find a replacement shell in the same purple color that my Mini+ came in! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It's a China product what do you expect? Sure the V2 might have a better screen but you're going to have to pay scalper fee for an old version of this. New ones might or might not ever get that kind of screen again. I have a newer 2.8 miyoo mini and am very happy with it but I haven't gone to the lengths of comparing colors to another system to make sure that I don't like it LOL
I'd expect a company to improve with each iteration of the device that they release, regardless of where it's from. I didn't really start thinking about comparing the screens until my comparison of the Miyoo Mini Plus and the RG35XX. Now I can't help it. Lol
You dont have to make your title like that man. It is so cute and beautiful. At this point people should already have goten all the other devices. But hey, you gota accept how cute it is. Come on man its only 58 dolla. 😊😊
I started with a Mini Plus with RTC chip. Ended up downsizing to the v4 because I wanted better pocketability. Only downside to the mini, for me, is that it doesn't have wifi or the RTC chip, but other than that, I prefer it over my mini plus.
Yup. Those two downsides are why I lean towards the Plus over the V4. The V4 has gotten some updates since its release and it fixed some of the issues I mentioned in the video.
If all you want is a small handheld that plays gameboy and snes fairly well, then the Anbernic 280v is a good option and easy to get. The Miyoo Mini + is great for something that lives in your pocket, imo.
@@baldlyrudyI definitely have concerns about the form factor, i bought an RG280V awhile back and I feel like it'll be similar to that in terms of comfortability, but as soon as I saw that yellow colorway it was only a matter of time before I pulled the trigger on this. I still think the RG35XX+ is the best of the 4 devices available in terms of comfort, build quality, but the custom FW situation is such a mess I started looking into other handhelds available. The Miyoo MIni+'s FW options are definitely better at this point but I think RG35XX+ will catch up. I just hope Miyoo doesn't release a V5 in a month and all of these shortcomings go away (wifi, screen resolution, speaker, etc.), I feel like as soon as I get one of these handhelds they release the next iteration.
@daniel-nguyen yeah. I also hope that Miyoo will launch a model that has a better overall performance to play more powerful games. Mainly because I really, really like Onion OS. It's my favorite custom FW.
@@baldlyrudy Onion OS is great, I played around with it on the Miyoo Mini+, and coming from an RG350M with Adam image it's leaps and bounds better, being able to scrape game art directly on the device blew my mind and the ability to easily add community generated custom themes was great. It seems like all of these devices max out at about PS1/N64 with limited PSP capabilities. I think if you want something more powerful you need to be willing to pay a $150+ for devices that can reliably handle more powerful consoles, but at this form factor, would you really want to play more powerful games? I feel like the screen sizes are just too small to show that amount of information on screen for say a PS2 or Gamecube game.
My only problem it's the form factor, I just want something "mini" but horizontal, like the old pocket go or the rg280m, Linux based focused on gaming not Android with a launcher
Everyone said that you could use a case meant for a deck of cards as a case for the Mini. I picked up a deck of cards and held it like I was playing a game. Uh uh. Way too small. I do have a V90 but that's different somehow. I still wouldn't want to play that for a long time.
Not sure if you realize, but you actually ended up picking up the worst version of the Miyoo mini. The original and the V2 had absolutely phenomenal screens. Better than the mini plus even. Beautiful colors, 480p native. The reason the screen is what it is is because they ran out of the past screens. Some say the original and V2 screens were those that were used on blackberries, which tended to have small but wonderful screens. Simply speaking, it's not the same product that it used to be. It's a significant downgrade from the v1 and V2. Honestly, I feel bad for people picking this up thinking this was the original experience. If you're on the market for this device you're much better off just picking up the Mini+ or 35XX. In terms of build quality, yes. It will break if it drops. The original Miyoo mini is notorious for screen shattering with as little as a two-foot drop onto a carpeted floor.
Nah man. It should be titled Buy this! If it’s for you. I love my v4 and plus for different reasons and don’t regret purchasing it. It may not be for you but I do see people preferring this system to others that are “more comfortable”
Miyoo handhelds are impractically small imo. They look great and are cute and super pockitable, but i think most of us want a device that isn't overly uncomfortable to use, even if we don't know it. i don't have the Miyoo mini, but i don't find myself wanting to use uncomfortable devices, handhelds or otherwise. These super compact handhelds really are just novelty.
The Miyoo Mini Plus is a little tiny bit smaller than a Gameboy Pocket. It's great for me, because I missed a lot of games growing up. Now, that RG405V is a whole other conversation. That thing is chonky.
Mini Plus is not a novelty, it's actually a great handheld where you can play all you'r retro games. It's a little bit smaller than a Gameboy Pocket, so unless you are a twat that was born in 2005, I don't see how it can be uncomfortable for you
i understand what you mean but consider in the 80's and 90's we dit not have these many games on one system for this prise so i am not complaning it is small oke but you can take it anywhere and when you have some time to kill bro i am not complaning. but for that i would never by it from a scalper
My thoughts exactly bro. The Miyoo Mini Plus is easily available though, and plays the same.games with better battery life. Not to mention that there's WiFi for easy updates.
I would say that the Miyoo Mini is vastly overrated today. I have a V2 myself which I got hold of for 50$... and even though I still love the device to death, It seems like the emulation handheld space has moved on. What makes the "the Mini" SO great is its genuinely small form factor, and also the beautiful 480p display, offering insane value by having cheap price point, high quality while being purposefully designed for 2D specifically (+ Playstation with d-pad focus). This is literally what was SO great about it! Today however, I think for a lot of people would appreciate the Miyoo Mini Plus more, with bigger screen, better grip, better shoulder buttons etc. What the Miyoo Mini still has is a legacy of greatness. Which forced the whole market to step up their game. However, it seems like the V4 has a 540p screen with imperfect upscaling and washed out colors. 480 upscaled unevenly to 540p, making for worse scaling than the V1-V3. So although I am happy it's here, I still think the "Plus" model is a better overall purchase to most people.
The only reason I want one is to play Gen 3 Pokemon and other sRPGS with one hand on the subway and I don't want to risk dropping my preferred device, which is far too risky to use in that way.
Hot damn, sounds like Mini is on the menu after all. Thanks! I think I might wait to see if the next revision can reclaim some of that V2/V3 glory, though.
@@baldlyrudy And?... A PC is an overall better experience than any of these handhelds. What if I want the smaller console to better carry around with me?
It is utterly utterly utterly stupid for people in the comments to complain this device is too small. Thats like complaining MicroSD cards are to small! my gosh people just ......don't...get it. If you dont like MicroSD cards guess what? It is not really meant to compete with the mini plus or 35xx, it is to have a small handheld you can chuck in your pocket and not even notice and for that it is absolutely perfect. The screen to me is not noticeable at all that it isn't Pixel Perfect, only hard-core retro gaming elitists will even be able to notice tbh the screen looks fantastic imo. There is no better handheld to keep on you 100% of the time than this one.
Please update the review, the problems have been fixed
Each has their strength. The mini+ is better gaming experience, comfortable, but it takes too much space in my pocket for me to carry it everywhere I go.
I honestly think the V4 is the best! Screen has a better viewing angle and is sharper. Also you can charge it from a regular fast charger.
I skipped on the MM+ worrying about the size being too small so I went with the 35xx instead. When I got it I was thankful I went with my gut but even then the 35xx feels a tad unconfortable, can't imagine the regular miyoo mini size tbh.
Yeah. The RG35XX and the MM+ are perfect in terms of size and form factor. Playing the games on the go is nice.
Thank you! Much appreciated. I hope the comparison video helps you make a decision.
rg35xx or miyoo mini plus, much more size comfortable
That would be a nice project. 🤔
Got the V4 and my screen went dodgy after about 1.5 months. Contacted Miyoo but no reply. Shame as I liked this yellow colour.
Lol
You do realize that 80% of the stuff you buy is manufactured in China right buddy?
As a small woman with small hands, it feels great to play. I imagine if you have larger hands, probably not so much.
I'm an average man. 5'11". My hands are too big for this device. Take it as you will.
V4 is dope now. Screen Res and colour has been fixed for a while. If you want a mini hand held it's still the Donnie
Didn’t know they restocked the mini till today just ordered it lol
the miyoo mini v4 is great, u should buy it
I'm personally not a fan. It felt like a downgrade when compared to the Miyoo Mini Plus. I'd recommend that easily over the V4.
If all you want is a small handheld that plays gameboy and snes fairly well, then the Anbernic 280v is a good option and easy to get. The Miyoo Mini + is great for something that lives in your pocket, imo.
I love the Miyoo Mini Plus. It's so well done!
I’m color blind so the screen issues don’t bother me as much, I have an RG35XX+, Miyoo Mini+ and soon to be a V4 owner, looking forward to it!
Legit! Enjoy. Though I will say that I enjoy the features on the MM+ much more than I do the size and form of the V4.
RG35xxh?
@@SIQmai close, but not quite yet, I've got high hopes for the miyoo mini horizontal
@@Sr.D me too 🤞🏻
RG28XX is mini and horizontal too and much better chipset than the Miyoo A30
@@Cauzmiklor and yet it's lacking the analog sticks having the space for them
Everyone said that you could use a case meant for a deck of cards as a case for the Mini. I picked up a deck of cards and held it like I was playing a game. Uh uh. Way too small. I do have a V90 but that's different somehow. I still wouldn't want to play that for a long time.
Do you think this would be better for 1 handed use? Like for rpgs and or slower games?
Most definitely.
love my v2, i rarely play games on it with 2 hands, i mainly use it for jrpg srpg anything turn base with 1 hand, cant beat the portablility
Oh yes. I'm very well aware and have been wanting a V2. I just can't justify the markup. Currently, my go to is the MM+. I'm having a blast with it.
It's a little bit smaller than a Gameboy Pocket, so unless you are a twat that was born in 2005, I don't see how it can be uncomfortable for you
You know what is the biggest waste of money? The Analogue Pocket
Can't wait for mine to come in the mail. 🤣
Wich Miyoo + is the best overall?
I would say the Miyoo Mini Plus is the best one.

How did you installed Mario64 ?? 😢
It came preinstalled in the "apps" sections. 08:09
I’ve Mini V2 with Onion 4.2.3 but there isn’t any M64 in apps, can you help me? Thank a lot@@baldlyrudy
The v2 is the version that had a superior screen saddly luckily I got a miyoo mini v2
i understand what you mean but consider in the 80's and 90's we dit not have these many games on one system for this prise so i am not complaning it is small oke but you can take it anywhere and when you have some time to kill bro i am not complaning. but for that i would never by it from a scalper
My thoughts exactly bro. The Miyoo Mini Plus is easily available though, and plays the same.games with better battery life. Not to mention that there's WiFi for easy updates.
Let me know when we can charge with a standard USB-C to USB-C cable with a standard USB-C PD charger.
Unlike the older versions, the v4 has always worked with a usb-c cable using a PD charger.
Im with miyoo mini plus's on onien os 4 ,2 i tealy love it with my swich i never have im bord nothing to play naw its what do i realy want to do
I just bought the v4 to play pokemon one handed
I have Mint Mobile and I love it!
Agreed! It's funny because I saw the V4 and got really excited, but it seems like a downgrade in every way. The Miyoo Mini Plus is the way to go.
So it… leaves a lot to be desired?
It does leave a lot to be desired.
The only reason I want one is to play Gen 3 Pokemon and other sRPGS with one hand on the subway and I don't want to risk dropping my preferred device, which is far too risky to use in that way.
Then it's well worth it for you. I'm using the Miyoo Mini Plus for playing games that I missed out on in my childhood.
Hot damn, sounds like Mini is on the menu after all. Thanks! I think I might wait to see if the next revision can reclaim some of that V2/V3 glory, though.
I am also a Rudy and approve this message.
From one Rudy to another, cheers. 🍻
If you like gba, the miyoo mini v4 is the best!!
RG Nano with FunKeyOS is much better in every way
Really? I felt like the RG Nano was much smaller and felt uncomfortable for me by comparison.
Reviewers complaining about mini consoles being small is like complaining about a tow truck being slow...
Miyoo Mini Plus is still a better overall experience. 🤷♂️
@@baldlyrudy And?... A PC is an overall better experience than any of these handhelds. What if I want the smaller console to better carry around with me?
@RenigadeWarrior1 then get the smaller one. Lol
based title
So didn't compare it at all to a v2 tf...click bait ass title.
Where in the title did I say I was going to compare the V4 to the V2?
It is utterly utterly utterly stupid for people in the comments to complain this device is too small. Thats like complaining MicroSD cards are to small! my gosh people just ......don't...get it. If you dont like MicroSD cards guess what? FULL size SD cards exist and if you dont like tiny almost invisible USB flash drives that dont hang out and possibly crack your usb port if you hit it by accident...they sell bigger ones that will just do that exact thing for you. Sheesh people are pathetic.
Why would someone complain about the size of the microSD card? What?
@@baldlyrudy Many have...saying its too easy too lose or those Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB Flash drives (that I absolutely love). If they have big hands let them buy the plenty of BIG flashdrives availabe. As for me I love that I can conceal these tiny flash drives.
@eijentwun5509 whatever floats your boat. 👍
