I don't get how this device shouldn't be relevant even 10 years from today. Maybe if we're talking about hoarding tons of handhelds and numerous youtube channels feeding off uncontrollable production of these devices then yes, miyoo mini is old news and can be disposed because there are better toys out there to review.
I like the novelty of the og miyoo mini, and i think that's the smallest i could get my hands on these retro devices. Smaller than this would be super crampy 🤧
I sold my Miyoo Mini plus and got the v4. I don't know why but something about the v4 is just so charming, I think I will keep the v4 forever even in reality I do not play it much at all.
The mix of the screen, the size and OnionOS keeps the Mini kinda still relevant. When Miyoo released the Miyoo A30, there was hope that they would basically make an horizontal Mini. They just borked it, they used a different SOC (killing the potential compatibility from OnionOS out of the gate), the analog stick that they used clicks, but the wire is not connected to the motherboard (why the heck include a stick like this), it overheats even playing stuff like GB/GBA. The Mini is still kind of the golden standard for smaller vertical (and even horizontal) handhelds. The biggest drawback for me is the frailty (when it was released, the direct competition was the RG280V, which compared to the Mini is a tank, compared to the Mini). If they released a handheld with the Mini v4 insides (and screen), on a body like the Powkiddy v10 (scalled down of course), it would be a killer!
Hmmm... I have the A30 and it never got hot enough to bother me, even when playing PS1 games... I know people are complaining about it... It might have something to do with the stock OS or Spruce, as I am running MinUI on mine. I just ordered the Mini and plan to keep it as part of my EDC.
Hey, you got a haircut.. Looks really good! I love my V2 Miyoo Mini, amazing little device hard to go wrong with it, agree completely with your review. The d-pad and buttons are top notch. I use a phone ring stuck on the back, not dropped it yet and it is more comfortable to hold. I don't play Pokemon but apparently it is easy to play one handed with this. Keep wanting to buy the plus version too, but honestly I don't need it. I think its a 9.5/10..not perfect, but damn good.
Yes! Thank you, a drastic haircut but I'm getting used to it now. The plus version really is good, better than the Mini in many ways but that tiny form factor just makes the Mini so portable!
I have the OG mini and the Plus... I love them both! I tend to have the OG just for games up to GameBoy, Spectrum, C64, etc. The Plust has all the arcade games (minus the stree fighter like games because I like those on my RG Arc, so anything that benefits from the 6 button layout), and other stuff up until PS1... And either of them is great to carry when I go out bushcrafting and want some mild gaming before going to sleep... Love it.
Some units may have screen ghosting. Mine had and I had to get another screen, which developed same issue later. Some screens are better. The resolution is very good for integer scale gba with minimal black bars, that's a plus
I had one of the V4s after owning a V1/V2 for a long time, because I wanted the transparent blue. The unit I got was... subpar. The color balance was so off that adjusting it in settings didn't even start to fix the problem. I ended up selling it because it was so disappointing in comparison to my old Miyoo Mini. Edit: It doesn't seem like mine was an isolated issue either, I remember looking this up online and found a few others who reported a similar drop in screen quality between the V1/V2 and V4.
I like the SP, particularly now I've modded the buttons, installed the latest MuOS and got all my emulators, artwork and descriptions all set up. But it took a lot of work to get it to that point. Onion OS and TinyBestSet Go just made it really easy to get the Miyoo running great with ease and the buttons didn't need any changes for me. They are both great handhelds, but very different beasts. And I love the quick swap option on the Miyoo.
@@JoeBleeps if miyoo releases their flip maybe i would get one. On my opinion the MM+ or MM doesn't give justice in terms of price over value because there are lots of devices right now like Anbernic massive releases especially RG405V. Screen, custom firmware, analog and power or just even RG35XX H. I can't go back to Onion or stock OS because it doesn't give me the experience and feel i needed when i play it.
The shoulder buttons are definitely the weak point. I'm glad they don't stick out like on some consoles. I will mostly be using this for Game Boy and NGPC so the shoulder buttons aren't too much of a deal breaker but the ones on the Miyoo Mini Plus were a big improvement.
I wasn't sure about this as I hadn't used one but I installed it on Onion OS, I think it's called Fuse. Haven't tried any roms on it yet, I downloaded the wrong format by mistake

These are great little machines. I bought one for my son to use on his commute, but after "testing it", i wanted to keep it for myself.

I think the Mini Plus definitely addresses the fragility, it feels a lot more solid. Shame about the A30.

The volume dial is actually a bad thing as you lose out on 2 combination keys in onionOS, like being able to adjust the brightness quickly.

Just wondering, does the type C support OTG? If so, you can theoretically connect a wifi dongle or even an ethernet cable.
