You've done Florence a fine service with this remembrance. I grew up in Detroit and loved the Supremes when they were a real trio. It's a real testimony to their influence that we still remember them. But Flo and Mary can harmonize in Heaven now, bless them.

Interesting that The Supremes are still being thought of all these years later. I would definitely be interested to see if this would lead to a film being made about the rise and fall of this iconic vocal group.

It hasn't happened yet because Berry and Diana won't let it happen due to their dirt they did then. How they treated Florence and others. They don't want to be outed. KARMA is going to get them
They didn’t DO anything to anybody. Gordy put more love and attention into The Supremes and others were jealous about it. It’s just that simple. Flo couldn’t handle the pressures of the growing business, and it was definitely BIG BUSINESS. Flo also didn’t like a lot of the show tune music. And wasn’t always good at the dance steps, Mary said that’s where Flo would struggle a lot of the time. So Flo just had a lot of insecurities. All of the girls did.. but they pushed through best they could. Diana is 80 now and I’m going to see her. She’s a smart woman and opened a lot of doors for black people, her Flo and Mary. Focus on that… Flo also had a terrible husband, no one seems to blame him for anything. Flo had from 1967 to 1975 to make better choices. And chose to stay with a scum like her husband, who stole the money Diana Ross left for her children.

Florence Ballard was a God gifted talent vocal powerhouse. Her talents were grossly overlooked and tremendously ignored. Berry Gordy knew he had a vocal powerhouse on his hands but due to his involvement with Diana Ross, Florence's talents were sidelined and pushed aside. Shame on Berry Gordy for his behaviour toward her.

Are you nuts? Diana felt her karma already. Her brother was found murdered in a basement with his wife, pitbulls were unleaded on them and they were tied and gagged. Her husband died in a ski accident, her reunion with the silt was a flop, she did tiny bit of time in jail for a dui, was drinking and probably on an anxiety type of pill. She did some time in a rehab and was motherly to everyone there. The Supremes were at the top of their game at 20,21,22,23. Very young! Coming from out the hood? Yeah… they didn’t know that much better. Also, Flo was just as responsible for her own life. Mary did well, with some struggle.. but she stayed doing what she loved no matter what. Flo got in her own way, above anything else.

FLO caught the attention of legendary Actress and Comedian, Lucille Ball who was interested in taking her under her tutelage.
The last myth was that a Broadway producer saw Flo and wanted to star her in a show. You guys make things up. I'm 73 and have followed them since 1964. If that were true I would know it.
I wish that had come to pass. I love hearing Flo's wisecracks on live performances.

My aunt took me to see them in 1965 at the Venetian Room at the Fairmont Hotel in San Fr ancisco. When we left she told me Flo looked like she was 3 months pregnant. I remember her stomach sticking out though being a fan of the group I didn't like what my aunt said but it was true.

Not only that, but Gordy stopped inviting the girls to recording sessions and had those awful Andantes doing the backup vocals under the name Diana Ross and the Supremes.

what happened to flo is of course really awful (i find it rather lousy, to say the least, that motown who claimed to be 'like a family' didnt help her with some cahs when she fell into genuine poverty. however- one way or another diana was always gonna be a superstar, thats the truth.
That darn Diana Ross stole the Supremes from the late great beautiful Florence Ballard just like that darn Mick Jagger stole the Rolling Stones from the late great handsome Brian Jones and both were always my favorite from each group(band).

Flo made the supremes, I like more the no hits that did not make the charts , Flo on lead is amazing, Mary as well especially with the early song The Tears..and other songs as a trio ,Yes Diane s voice is some what great on earlier songs such as Come on boy.. Abreathtaking guy I idolize you. Why didn't barry make flo lead on some real blusey sound recording with diane and mary on background and let diane and mary join in on a few other songs for instance with that real motown sound to mary wells hits or some fast songs like the marvelous Marvelettes,...This is my opinion period

There There, Flo had her faults and played the a role in getting fired which she would admit later on. Berry played a role himself fully in insulted her on her weight and values as a star. He pressured her in to retiring from the group. Mary would admit it herself on and off for decades til the day she died. Berry played Flo, Mary and Diana. Just like he played half of everyone at Motown especially Gladys Knight and The Pips..
