      Same! I have always loved Ferrari, and something about the 512 BB design spoke to me. But this car sitting for *39 years* is a total waste. It will probably never be a good running car, unless they do a complete restoration - and even then it's a big gamble.

    Are the camshafts belt driven? I wouldn't describe it as a "service" when the engine needs taking out and having main seals and timing belts replaced as well as all fluids and filters. You can't store a car completely untouched for that long and have it just run after some new fuel and oil.

It had obviously been cleaned nside and out, to within an inch of its life before you set eyes on it. A first start up and what you had to do to achieve that goal are the meat and bones of a blog with the title you gave it. • @58raceguy
      @58raceguy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @schamitz your comment sent me digging. I always thought these to be a true boxer design but you are correct, they are not. Even the Ferrari engineer who designed the engine confirmed it. Technically is a flat 12 with the heads at a 180 degree angle. The Ferrari website even refers to it as a 180 degree V12 which is confusing.
      This is from a technical article I found:
      “While the "Berlinetta Boxer" name has been used by both Ferrari and the press to describe BB-series cars, this engine was not a true boxer engine. In the Tipo F102 A and its derivatives, each pair of opposing pistons share the same crank pin and move in the same direction during operation. In a boxer engine, pairs of opposing pistons move in opposite directions. On this point, Ferrari engine designer Mauro Forghieri stated "Please, don't call it boxer. Technically, it is correct to say that this engine is a flat-12, or has 12 cylinders with the heads at a vee angle of 180°”

    That's not worth $400k. It's been federalized which means it's been modified which is not good. It'll also need a major service which is probably $50k. Hopefully it will not need a major rebuild. The seller is being greedy and Peter is taking all the risk.

    Gee how did I know that he used that line about the $15,000 Ferrari service as nothing more than a BS negotiating tactic. That car was running within 20 minutes of getting to the shop. Check the oil, a tablespoon of marvel mystery oil down each cylinder, drain the gas tank if there was any, new battery and go! At best he drained the float bowls and didn't even clean the carburetors. Then pay somebody 10 bucks an hour to detail top to bottom. He made close to $60,000 on that barter, give or take. There's no such thing as an honest car salesman. Didn't even replace the tires. I'm not even sure if Ferrari would service it considering you have 12 individual carburetors there to deal with and have to sync after cleaning. They got her fired up and that's it. Sold as is with no warranty.

    how outstanding but I've got to know did something happen to make it sit parked and cared for like you were going to drive it tomorrow. I stopped watching so it might say but the owner is to me very aware and as you can tell he certainly knows his stuff. I'm begging my brother to sell his car that I curate and got it 1st place in its class the handful of times we entered it. now this is still driven but less and less. I was told that letting the car sit was the worst thing for it. its a newer but still a ey high performance car. its not a '81 boxer but its a '97 18k 993 turbo in guards red. its specced he's the second owner and its always been garage kept I'm the only person who has touched the cosmetic side of it. he also had the foresight to buy a bunch of O.E. parts that are no longer available. its a clean condition 2 way toward the high end. its optioned well and he is hesitent to sell now. I follow the market of it but I'm a car guy that knows about way more than he being a Porsche guy. I've seen them with more miles worse condition without all the extras. it does have a couple mods but has the O.E. parts in addition to all the other things he bought over the 15-20 or so years he's had it. I've seen where cars have sold like his but not as nice where he'd make 300k. is that a car that driving less is actually lowering its value. turbochargered ars need to be heat cycled and and have all fluids circulated as well as everything else from suspension to tires to the cooling system all need to be pressurized I believe more than he drives it. what is long between drives for something like that,. I fully understand this 512 is a different story(and the black just kills its) I've been a 512 and 400i guy since the early 80's and still think they are real ferraris. ones Enzo graced maybe even touched. what an outstanding buy. I grew up watching you on speedvision with my Dad (R.I.P.) and I think your content is better than ever!! let me know if you get a moment about the 993 question. always great to see any or all the Klutt family doing what they do best , dealing with Legendary CARS!! cheers

      Maybe your brother should call up Peter Klutt at LMC, if he wants to make a QUICK AND CLEAN, EASY CASH DEAL.
      IF he wants to take his chances for MAX RETURN, he COULD put his Porsche into a high-end AUCTION. He MIGHT do BETTER, but he might do WORSE, especially if he lists it at auction with NO RESERVE.
