  • Not all Ferrari's are built the same, and neither are their owners. This all original 1971 Daytona Spyder comes out from hiding in the garage, but the owner decides he doesn't want to be on camera. For more old LMC programming, check out: • Found money for a FAMI...
In this throwback episode of the Legendary Motorcar show, Peter and Gary drive down to a customer's house after hunting down an incredible White Ferrari Daytona Spyder, only 1 of 5 in existence. The car is as good as he said it would be, however the man no longer wants to filmed for television.. This makes for an interesting episode as Peter has to strike a deal in private, leaving Gary up to his own devices and getting up to no good.
Once they get the car back to Legendary HQ, Gary takes the car for a proper drive before doing a gentle cleanup. The goal: take it down to Cavallino in Palm Beach Florida for the Preservation Cup. Watch until the end to see if Peter and LMC can win and take home the trophy!

That was a great video. As a kid growing up , all I knew were race tracks and car dealerships in the 60's , 70' 80's. My Dad was looking at a Ferrari in Daytona Spyder 1974, there was also a 246 Dino beside the car. It was a baker motors in Atlanta. The Dino was a spine busting $18,900 brand new, and the used 1973 Daytona was off the charts at $21,000. But my father was a race driver, having started out in 1957 on the beach of Daytona with Bill France in a 1956 Jaguar. He wanted a car that handled the curves of rural Appalachia. I remember he said the the Daytona drove like a dump truck a slow speeds, but he fell in love with the "Non Ferrari" Dino 246. Back then it was not considered a true ferrari as it said Dino on the hood, and a V6 what could be worse. So he bought the dino. Funny thing was back then, you did not buy thinking they would go up in value, you just wanted to get the newest thing ferrari had built. Plus on the older cars from the 60's were impossible to get parts for. We had friends in Atlanta that waited over a year or more for parts. I remember we brought the car home to a population of 678 people. Nobody knew what it was. One day a guy and his wife drove into town in there Ferrari Lusso. They saw the 246 at the local coffee shop. They stoped in to inquire who had the Dino. My dad took him out to see the car. I remember the man telling his wife, "Now this is the newest thing from Ferrari, and if you have the money this is what to get". Funny how things work out. But back in 1974 his Lusso was worth about $12,000..... I know..... but looking back on the over 300 cars we had , I don't miss any of them. The fact is if we had bought the Spyder ...... we would have sold it as soon as it hit $45,000 because it was always about the newest technology. Not collecting, but pure driving. Our friend Preston Henn bought a 275 Ferrari factory race car for $19,000 in 1969. It is #06885 and is estimated to be worth over $100 Million. His family still owns the car. He had the money to keep. and store the cars he bought. We did not. But we got to experience some really great things over the decades.

Dino 1st Ferrari I saw, gorgeous, so Coke bottle. V12 Daytona much different beast (& needs plexiglass so it doesn't look like Italian Corvette).

6 webber cabs, no place to tune it or get parts, and the only contacts you have, you have to fly across the world to find and talk to just to fix your car
and when you do, you find the price is 6X what it should be, if you can even speak the language AND find the parts

@@kavinskysmith4094 You have to know people. I have been into all types of cars from classics to hot rods to euro to drag racing to track racing for over 50 years and I know that the carbs and tuning are a non issue. I have contacts in many places so parts etc. are obtainable for me or can be made. All in all if you are into it you can get it done. A non issue for me. Thanks for your reply

Dry ice blasting. Cleans and is more delicate than soap and water.

They deliberately chose NOT to use such methods as dry ice cleaning so as to keep its preservation/survivor class credentials intact.
