The one thing that Jeff is really really good at better than other metal guitarists is that Jeff understands way better than anyone else the principles of pacing and what he should play where. Some is fast. Some is slow. Nothing is out of place, awkward or too much though. Front to back its an interesting and pleasing experience no matter what you listen to of his. And he works really hard to play the parts that need to be where they are to create the best melodic and pleasurable musical experience and I really appreciate that Jeff doesn't have to go out of his way to be weird when he plays. Even his awkward ideas are incorporated in a way that makes them sound awesome such as the clean tones in cashmere shiv. Jeff is a virtuoso who above all cares about doing it right. Playing the best thing to play because that's what the song needs and not because he's trying to be different or something out of place. He plays the right thing in the right place and it's rare to find someone who palpable prioritizes making good music rather than amalgamated crap or uninspired generic pop cliches.

@@mehmd1913 The nut and the string headstock bridge/bar thingie SHOULD be enough to mute any vibrations behind the nut/headstock area. If not then you can use a fret wrap, or a DIY hair-scruntchy thingy. As far as the actual treble strings dangling over the fretboard, it all comes down to what I like to call good ELECTRIC guitar left hand technique. LH in acoustic and classical guitar is where you press the very tips of your fingers against the strings with the fingers upright. You do NOT want to do that if you play electric with distortion. You want to have a *walrus-flipper* for a left hand where your index finger (maybe others) are always touching the treble strings. If you start a melody on the D-string you had better have your LH fingers in tactile contact with the G, b, and e strings above the note your are fretting (obviously not enough to hold down a barre, but a barre should be a simple press down at all times).
I often disengage the *walrus flipper* automatically if I'm going to bend and shake a note (maybe a bad habit of mine). So I often have my RH lay the fingertips down on the g, b, and e strings as if I am planting for hybrid picking. This helps a great deal for me -- your mileage may vary.
I will also say that muting ALL strings you are not playing (bass and treble) are key. You can get overtones from the bass strings as well, which is why your picking hand's palm/wrist should be resting against the bridge of the guitar on the strings you are not playing.
Obviously, this doesn't apply with more traditional guitar styles/techniques (clean playing / fingerstyle /acoustic strumming, etc.)
