  • During this trip, I was able to get my 4 wheeler dropped off, completed the foundation bracing, and framed all (4) walls. Thanks for following along with my build!

    So glad to see a four wheeler in a wagon to help out with your work. I thought that last episode sure could’ve been made easier for you.

    Glad you braced the support post. I was concerned last video. Looking good sir.

    Just a heads up! the " structural screws you have in the loft 2 x 8 are good but I would still install a additional 2 x 4 s under each loft joist on the back wall side for better loft floor support long term.

      Thanks for the advice....agreed. Just ran out of time and material last trip. :-)

      Agreed. I've watched many of these type of videos where the builder is depending on fasteners to carry the load. I'm a firm believer that mass carries load.

      Definitely need jack/queen braces for the loft beams.

    Looks like you are doing a neat job there. glad to see you doing decent foundations, so many just lay their cabin on hollow cinder blocks that are just dug into the ground a bit!

    Great video. You are a productive worker! Getting a lot done in one day. Building a 12ft x 16ft ( 3.6m x 4.8m) hut of my own right now, so lots to learn from your videos. Thanks. Mine is on a slope too, but no lake sadly.
    (On a production note; it would be good if the volume of speech and music were more equal; I turn the sound up to hear what you are saying, then I get deafened when the music starts!) Keep up the good work.

    Very nice and moving along just fine. It's good to watch different methods for building, gives food for thought that can be applied and or modified to my own future builds. Great video/editing work as well. Stay safe and God bless.

    Cool video ! Beautiful location ! Help is always nice but it’s amazing how much you can get done by yourself ! In your own little world and taking your time to make sure it’s done right ! Gonna go back and watch episode 1 and I’ll more than likely subscribe. Beautiful state and area you’re in ! I’m in Maine so not a lot different. Lol. Take care

    Enjoying the cabin build videos, very conscientious craftsmanship-it should provide years of enjoyment. Are you putting a wrap around deck on it?

    2x6 18 oc works in measurements of 3, 7.5, 15, 30, 45, 60 feet etc. a 2x6 bares many times more load than a 2x4 at 18 on center the cost is not much greater and a much stronger house.
    I am referring to the exterior wall framing not interior. 12 feet also works many common lengths work on 18 oc.

    Just curios why you did not set your floor/ceiling joists on the top plate of the wall.

    Great project. How did you like using the Helical Screw Piles? I've been thinking about using them too. Cheers from FL!

    • @echoesupnorth2367
      @echoesupnorth2367  ปีที่แล้ว

      Overall, I liked using the screw piles. If you are on a hillside, I may recommend going with a stronger pile or having the longer post anchored with a traditional footing. Thanks for watching!

    2x4 walls instead of 2x6? How tall are the walls, it looks huge! Where abouts in northern michigan? I always have loved that area.

    • @echoesupnorth2367
      @echoesupnorth2367  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I plan on insulating with mineral wool and will not be using year round, so I went with 2x4 construction. Walls are 9'....wanted the added height to make the space feel bigger. Thanks for following along.

  • @ZAMA6116
    @ZAMA6116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How big is your lot on that lake?

  • @PerryRenoman
    @PerryRenoman ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok total confused! You spend extra to build higher walls then install floor joists under using structural screws when you could have framed the floor using standard method on top of walls and that would have been stronger.

    • @echoesupnorth2367
      @echoesupnorth2367  ปีที่แล้ว

      I built it this way to maximize head height in the loft. It gives me 6" of extra head height up there plus a true 8' ceiling under the loft. Thanks for watching!
