Good to learn something new here. generally, a quick smoothie for me is something like this: half a Banana, fresh black berries, an ice cube to cool, fat free milk, and honey to satisfy my sweet tooth (I've cut out candy bars, ice creams, bad sweets..) and for a quick protein shake: whole Banana, dark cacao powder, a scoop of chocolate muscle powder, shot of honey, spoon of Peanut Butter, and fat free milk, or water). I've not done an kale, strawberry, apple, type smoothies in a while, but may try that again soon.
I always hear that oats are not good because it's too starchy but oats are the only thing that makes me feel full for a very long time like from morning to evening
Same here - oates when not mixed with extra sugar (add cinnamon!) actually keep me full longer! Reason: Oats are a good source of soluble dietary fiber rich in β-glucan, which is considered as a bioactive component in reducing postprandial glucose and insulin responses, improving insulin sensitivity, maintaining glycemic control and regulating blood lipids. I do a All organic berries, strawberry, blue 🫐 and black berry with half a banana 🍌 with organic A2 whole milk. Once in awhile I'll add half a Mango 🥭.
Peanuts, like most all plant proteins are missing essential amino acids. In the peanut, that's methionine. Lysine is low also. There is a reason the peanut butter sandwich is a staple dish. The wheat has the missing amino acids. But plant protein is must less digested, so I stick with animal sources.
It's more of a good source of healthy fats (debatable) and less a source of protein as well. There are 12 essential amino acids that our body needs to get from food sources because we don't make them. In order to be a complete protein it must contain all 12
@@llce2000 I get my fat from tallow, lard, and schmaltz. I use peanut flour, which is defatted, because the fat in nuts and legumes are far less healthy, and my body doesn't like them. I also enjoy the taste and texture of peanut flour. The only oil I ever use is olive oil. If I'm having peanut oil, it's from whole peanut. Although during the summer I eat little meat, I make sure I get a full serving of animal foods. Then I don't need to worry about all the amino acids. I'm getting them.

Love you channel always so to the point and very knowledgeable. So I make my own smoothie and I usually use frozen berries and unsweetened almond milk and just some water is that ok?
Here’s a smoothie that I take in the morning coconut unsweetened milk half a cup of blueberries half a banana spinach scoop of protein a scoop of turmeric a little bit of cinnamon and that’s it
@Autumn Bates, great video, thank you for all the great insights and practical nutritional info!! This time, though, I respectfully disagree in regards to avoiding kombucha. I would not place kombucha in this group to be avoided at all because the sugar added to kombucha is meant for the bacteria culture in it to consume, to feed on - not us! Hence it should ferment out through the brewing process. The kombucha brewing process must include sugar for this reason, and whether it is in the form of cane sugar, honey, or fruit juice is up to the brewer. Regardless of the sugar source, in its most basic recipe, kombucha is made from a combination of tea, usually black tea, and sugar fermented with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). As the SCOBY consumes the sugar, the tea ferments and creates a most flavorful functional probiotic beverage.
True, good description of kombucha making, but I think the sugar listed on the kombucha bottle is what remains after the fermentation process and for your consumption, not what was added for fermenting in the production of the kombucha initially.
My smoothies generally have water, a handful or two of spinach, some avo, full fat plain Greek yogurt, strawberries and/or a few blueberries. I usually add a tbspoon or two of mixed seeds (chia, sunflower, flaxseed) and about 10 almonds. I’m trying to reverse my insulin resistance, so I rarely have half of a small banana as a treat instead of the berries. But generally, the above is what I have to break my fast at midday
@@AutumnBates what if I add a sausage link and a few strips of bacon. Seriously I enjoy you videos and they are helping. Got to tighten my belt one more hole today and my dog now gets 3 walks a day.
Joke using Greek yogurt in my smoothies, it's easy in order to get my protein...but I'd like to alternate with a protein powder, do u have a tutorial on how to choose a good one?
It depends on the amount/type of fruit used. Some fruits are very high in sugar. There's also the concern of fruit JUICE vs. whole fruits. I did a video on this on Tuesday that you can check out here: th-cam.com/video/RLEfKuFSS3Q/w-d-xo.html
Ready made smoothies and isolate whey protein powders, especially the US brand ones and a few of the European ones, really frustrate me. Just by reading the label you can figure out what's wrong. In isolate whey protein powders I won't go nuts on the sweeteners, I mean that's something that is always there. I'm going nuts even on isolate ones because it's not really isolate. I'd rather go for a 86-90% isolate powder with a less trendy flavor like vanilla or strawberry or banana than some cereal or cake or bulshit flavor. If I wish to have cake, I'd have cake and not drink it in a protein shake. Apologies for the outburst. As for smoothies, I can't say I'm a big fan yet if I crave one I prefer making it on my own by far.
Do you mean where does it go? That's a great question - the fats are broken down by the body into usable energy and heat. But that would be a great video to dive into more detail on in the future.
@@AutumnBates you cant destroy matter, ya can't create matter. You can only change matter. So I know fat gets used as energy. But that energy then come out of your body as what. Hey, I am wondering what should I do, I lost some weight from ~85kg to now 75kg(3 months), I don't have visible six-pack which is my goal. I think I have some like 19-18.5% body fat. Should I cut until I see abs? Or should I stop calorie deficit and start clean-bulk and building muscle coz I don't want lower weight then 72-73kg my hight is 182cm I am on 1750 calorie per day
