You know, I have very mixed feelings about this story. I usually feel sorry for the victims of these stories, even the people who may have doormat tendencies and tend to turn my anger and frustration towards the abusers and toxic people. And while I certainly don't like the ex-wife and I'm certainly glad she got what she deserved, I can't help but feel like OP should've just left the wife as soon as she checked out. Don't get me wrong, I'm so glad he finally left her and got his life back on track, but it just took so long to get there. What's worse is that he ignored advice and his wife badmouthing. I don't know. I feel conflicted here. On the one hand, I'm glad he's in a better place, but on the other hand, I feel like this took way too long to get there and as much as I hate to say it, I feel like OP initially acted like a simp/doormat, desperate to save a doomed marriage when it wasn't even his failing to begin with. I can only hope that OP is in therapy right now because it's clear that he needs it.

I was friends with a guy like OP many years ago. Our friends and I got together and introduced him to a woman we were aquatinted with who was very nice but very open sexually. They talked for a few months as he was still married and she was willing to be a shoulder for him, which she was ok with. The day his divorce was finalized, she picked him up and took him back to her place. For the entire weekend. We still don't know ALL of the details to this day but he was happier than we had ever seen him and they have remained just friends to this day.

I feel she was already planning to leave, but asked to continue the relationship so in court she can say he forgave her about her cheating and asked for the open marriage to say she never cheated again. She basically played him.

So like, based on my own personal history with this kind of thing, I am definitely not a fan of the ex-wife. But I don't like OP, either. OP goes to Reddit looking for opinions/advice, ignores advice, goes back for revenge for a situation he let go of because he wouldn't take advice, then finishes off with "Keep your opinions to yourself, you weren't there?" Look, opening a relationship after there’s already been cheating is… well, I haven’t personally ever seen it been done. I’ve even had several successful, long-term open relationships (don’t judge, different time & place). Had several disastrous failures too; it’s not for everyone.
