Fun fact: the guy who composed this was also the guy who composed the ost for the Rurouni Kenshin anime series. No wonder the sound styles are alike. :)
I don't know how to express my feelings about this game...there was nothing in my childhood when I was a kid, there was only Tenchu. loved this series. best stealth. the bosses were difficult to fight and darker. I love how every song fits in. especially Onigake. also there are great characters. I remember every mission gaves me the creeps. Tenchu is just too much for a game. Tenchu should never be forgotten.
I often tell myself that rather than bemoan the direction the world has taken, take solace and satisfaction that we lived and witnessed a cultural golden age, because we were lucky to do so.
I remember when I was in 6th grade I was desperately trying to learn this on guitar and took the time to learn it by ear. Eventually did and playing along was the one of the greatest experience ever. This game's soundtrack had a huge impact on my childhood. I'm so grateful for this game.
So cool you learned it by ear! I’m self taught and learned by ear when I first started playing guitar.. when there’s no tabs out there you just have to do it yourself
Tenchu far better than any AC lol But it never gained equal popularity. First of all, because its a japanese game, thus half of titles were lost to the rest of the world.
Another stellar theme from this game, and its only "training mission". This soundtrack was so unique and had so many different sound atmospheres. Just amazing.
@@andres24x I haven't yet, but I will next year. I promised myself I wouldn't make the outfit until I could realistically be in shape enough to do Rikimaru justice.
I still play Tenchu on my epsxe. Such an amazing soundtrack and playing this game everytime, always brings back my childhood memories. I wish someday can make another game and the remake of this one.
this is such a calming and relaxing tune to me. I remember loving the graphics of the original Tenchu, and I must admit in spite of modern gaming's push for photorealism in games I still enjoy old blocky PS1 graphics. It warms my heart in a way no other game can. There's just something about the lighting in this game too. Maybe because at the time I got into it I was spending a lot of time out at night going into the city and I'd frequently go to hotels and wander the halls, pretending i was staying there. And when I was sneaking the dimly lit halls of a holiday inn I'd be listening to this song. Now when I hear it it takes me back to times of wandering hotel halls, looking out the windows at the city and enjoying the view. Dim lights. Loneliness. Quiet places and the thrill of being someplace you know you're not supposed to be.
Yep!! Jonathon Brown!! I'm still jamming to this in 2014!! I first heard these song when I copped this game back in 98' when I was 10 yrs. old!! As a pre-teen I loving these grooves!! 25 years old now and I'm still lovin it! Best game PS1 soundtrack from 98' hands down!!
Same here. I grew up playing this game and I still love it now. I wish they would make a new game with a great story, soundtrack and a co-op mode. There is at least one online petition trying to make this happen but it's been going for a while now so it seems the game companies are ignoring it unfortunately. Just have to hope I guess.
2:01 this solo is so damn good. The little nuances in it like the transitional melodies between the main parts, the dynamic shift between yanking the strings vs playing them softly, and just the sound of the damn SLIDES sound like perfection. Even the one note that gets overly palm muted by accident (or so it sounds to me) sounds like all part of its charm.
yeah that would be cool. but I haven't even played tenchu z. another idea I have for a new tenchu game is that it should be a free roaming game to explore different areas like gta.
This is the tutorial music.....THE TUTORIAL GOD DAMMIT!!!!! Games are just something so different these days and I'm not completely sad about it......but the 90's magic is just never coming back......
Man I love this theme. It's so calm and atmospheric. A new tenchu game in this generation would be super dope but till then I'm fine with playing the orginal games.
Think this is when I started stepping over into mature gaming … remember playing this mission , think it was 1998-1999 was 8th grader going into 9th grade , just remember my buddies around me watching … all I could think was this games soundtrack is so gooood
1998, Tenchu released and Lego Samurai kits released, along with Metal Gear Solid and Thief, the dark project. All of these combined to make this one of the best years I have ever experienced.
Low key soft-core porn music when that farty bass groove and sensual guitar kicks in... and the intro definitely has an elite "eyes wide shut" masked orgy sound too. Still, one of the best video game soundtracks ever. Wish video games these days had the passion of Tenchu.
From like 2:37 onwards, does anyone else get the Cowboy Bebop vibe from those last notes? You'll know what song from the anime I'm referring to if you do.
My best was in the village, against the pirates... Two of them back to back, I dropped a smoke between them, stealth kill back to back..., Then outta the smoke... Felt so lethal in that game...
2019? Still the best acoustic guitar piece in a game by a long shot.
Diablo's tristram theme would like to have a word with you.
Although this is definitely right up there with it lol
2021? 🙌🏻

No, there is another very good one.

Imo, Tenchu is still one of the most authentic stealth/Shinobi games out there.
They created Sekiro instead.. but then its very good too.

Totally, and to this day I haven't managed to get a single guitar tab for Training Mission, sadly
it's also the main theme though
i got the blues bruh
Good luck looking for this track on the Tenchu OST on ITunes.

Sigh*Tenchu needs to be remastered entirely. At least the first trilogy!!!

love reading the comments and seeing so many who shared the similar feeling/experience when they played the game and heard the soundtrack.
2019 and still rocking it into the new year

I'm so ready for a new tenchu game.
would you actually buy a Tenchu-type game in FPS view with Thief mechanics?
yeah even though i prefer it to be 3rd person with a free roam feature like in the gta and assassins creed games.

What a classic piece. Wouldn't be out of place on a cool jazz station.

For the longest time i didn't realize that this was a small part to a longer song. One part the opening cgi and the second the training. Good stuff.
