Just finished watching the other pro acryl signature series reviews, and decided to pick up all of them as a birthday present to myself. Thank you sir, you are the goat!
At first I didn’t think I’d want Flameon’s set, because it didn’t seem to offer a ton of options imo. Then I realized that there seems to be a lack of browns in the base sets and expansions and realized I needed it. Then, to add to that, I saw Larry get that beautiful skin tone and realized I needed this set. So I’ll definitely be getting it now, thanks to your testing here.
Monument: releases signature sets. Vince: Let me show you how these are great for skin tones. I’m still waiting for Vince’s demo of using the fluorescent set to paint skin tones.
Larry is lookin better than ever! I've been playing with both of these sets as well, solid solid stuff! :-) "squig red" - excellent point. I've been using flameon neutrals for teeth too 🙂
Hearing you talking about coverage when painting the pants makes me want a retrospective video on the Hobby Cheating series itself. We’ve come along way since the earliest videos where we teased people obsessed with coverage haha.
I really hope that you tackle the Olive skin tones etc. As someone who is Mediterranean I find it hard to properly replicate the skin tone on a miniature
If you used a new Larry every time you could have had an army! Love seeing the returning character. Might pick up the Louise paint and figure out how to use it to make a Lumineth army I’m starting up really pop
I was exciting for these sets (as I am with all Pro Acryl paints), but hearing you praise the green makes me even more excited for them! Thanks for the video
Eyeing the Hot Dark Pink as the initial colour on some Hot Rod Pink Flame Space Marines. Hoping it covers well enough the lighter layers apply well over it 👍
As someone who tends to favor more neutral and desaturated colors Louise’s set had me a little skeptical. But, the way that you showcased them with on the squig has me re-evaluating my drab preferences 😅 Always more to learn in this hobby!
I wasn't interested in the Flameon set as I don't care for golds, but I hadn't considered the set as a skin set. I'll pick it up on my next reorder. Louise's set is an instant buy. I need.the saturation in my life.
Congratulations on the 444th episode!! This was really interesting, I see I’ve got the same perception of colors, it’s nice to have a mix of really saturated high chroma paints, with black and white you can then desaturated but also while mixing complementarys. And a Gold Paint Palette wouldn’t be to bad if one struggles with it I guess, I already consider buying one, so far I own all sets and I’m really happy about it. But also I recognized that some paints from the first series seemed somewhat different - which I like when not all paints behave exactly the same but rather like pure pigments. Your royal purple and Jon’s dark magenta seem rather satin - could it be? Also I struggle with smooth application of satin paints, when I paint with matte colors I never have any problems, but with satin I smt get nasty textures on my minis. Sorry for bombarding you with words, have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for everything you put out and sharing your knowledge and insight! It’s really priceless for me since I can’t afford buying books for hundreds month after month. A “quick” Vince tutorial always helps! Maybe make a video about mixing pigments into mediums ? I can’t seem to find the right ratio for powder and thinner / matte medium / flow improver etc. Thanks so much again
The purple and magenta are a little more satin, not crazy, but we couldn't matte them compeltely because of the pigment mix, those colors are just naturally more satin.
🎉 as always a treat to see the man work! Glad someone said some different potential use for flameon paints. You got another whole paint set from MH to review Vince! On their site I submitted a review for your purple with a picture of a model I mostly painted You’ll have to forgive the bad English on the review though. Keep on inspiring!
I like the signature series, but I really wish they would transition some of the signature paints over to like mainstay, some of the stores in my area I have a hard time actually getting anything that's not just a base paint level, and yeah I can order it online but you know if they sell well enough they should get promoted
Thanks Vince! Love to see your thoughts on these paints. I’m hoping you can do a review of the Atom paints from big child (and especially how they compare to Golden SoFlat / liquitex acrylic gouache “quiche” paints)
My daughter asked me why I have so many colors of paint, and the only answer I could come up with was, “Because I am not a good enough painter to only have a few colors.”
Thanks for reviewing these sets, Vince. I will look for them eventually I'm sure, though I have so many paints right now that I most likely won't even use up before I die, I probably should just learn to mix my own. 😄
A fun snappy ride through the two paint sets and definitely piqued my interest. I've some Japanese to paint and am looking forward to the NMM non-caucasian skin tone HC episode.
if the cops ever find him, who knows what they'd say, but ya know if old' lar was still with us today, He'd have to agree with me, it was a pretty good gag.
Have you tried Golden Open acrylics paints? They're an acrylic paint that can ve mixed with water or other acrylics, but have the long working time of an oil paint. They've really helped me paint fabric and skin tones quickly and easily, and being able to mix them with the other paints I have to make blends or color match is a huge plus
Hey Vince. I love your videos and this one is no exception. I think because you've had a commercial relationship with proacryl there should be a proper disclosure. I trust your judgement. Thanks!
I couldn mention it, I should say, I have no commercial stake in these. I picked them up and I don't get any money or anything (other than if you use the affiliate link). I have lots of relationships with lots of companies, but I only make those relationships with companies that know I am always going to be independent and say how I feel about them. :)
That NMM gold set would be great for an idea I’ve got in the wings. One of the last Christmas gifts my mom got me (she died January 5th of this year quite suddenly) was the Reaper Metal miniatures Nativity Set and I promised her I’d have them painted for next Christmas. I’ve done a deep dive into the history of the nativity, and discovered that the Three Wise Men were intended from their earliest symbology in church history, to represent Europe, Africa, and Asia (The Americas having not been discovered yet). They are also highly associated with Mardi Gras (I’m a Louisiana native), so my intention was to paint one of them as a black man, one white, and one Asian, integrating those Mardi Gras colors as well. This NMM gold set would be perfect for the Asian skin I’ve been looking for (as I’ve had little to no luck finding any I’m happy with).
Hi Vince, really appreciate this and your other videos! Question: about the ultramarine blue in the Rogue Hobbies set, how does it compare to the ultramarine blue in almost every other paint lineup? It's a staple in many 'basic' sets and it stood out as a choice that would be redundant for quite a few people. Secondary question (unrelated), in the rack behind you there's some Golden brand paint -- which products of theirs do you use and for what? Thanks!
It's a nice solid ultramarine pigment blue, high saturation, I like it, more punch than some others out there. I use Golden HBA for some work, especially the lighter colors, I also like Golden So Flat and I LOVE the Golden hi-flow fluorescents.
You mention ProAcryl is one of the three brands you consider, what are the other two ? I recently moved and all my paint swill be unavailable for a few years so I have to start from scratch ^^
louises set is on top 1 place on my buy list, but we have to wait very long for monument products to drop in germany. newsh and the neons had only a small batch until now in april 24. The skin tone set is not of interest for me, because i have enough of this tones. but expect the vibrancy of my favourite color, bold pyrrole red, from louises set
Hey Vince, I was curious what your other 2 of the “3” paint brands you consider using are besides pro-acryl like you were talking about at the 2 minute mark. Love your vids, and these two new sets weren’t even on my radar until watching this video. Thanks for all your hobby cheats and great reviews 🙂 Oh, and for that great signature series of yours I’ve used on my SWL clone troopers 😄
I came here to see if someone had asked this question. I wonder what AP fanatic is... I have been recently adding AK 3rd gen to my own workflow more. What I love most about AK interactive is all of their military colors... I don't know what to call that but I really had problems coming up with a paint color for one of my characters because I was trying to go Military-Esque.
@@VinceVenturella where do you put the old Vallejo and new vallejo in comparison to those brands? I'm mostly VMC right now, but looking at getting new paints in my range this year. I didn't like my reaper or old Army Painter war colors I tried. With AK, ProAcryl, new Vallejo, new AP, and Two Thin Coats it's overwhelming especially when high shipping makes it hard to sample a bunch of brands.

Citadel screamer pink is my all time favourite paint colour, but I have struggled to find a darker shade and highlight shade to complement it. Do you think the Pro acryl magenta, Nikon dark magenta and rogue dark hot pink might work as a triplet? Or can you give any other recommendations about how to highlight screamer pink in particular?
Hi Vince, You mentioned you tested them through the airbrush. Can I ask whether you thin your Pro Acryl when airbrushing and if so with what and what dilution. Thanks Pete
Hi Vince! Im struggling with deciding what paint set/brand to buy into. I've got like 35 vallejo game color, some model color, some AK 3rd, 2 two thin coat, 5 pro acryl and 8 fanatics. I'm wondering if I just should get the Pro Acryl range, and then buy into another range for the colors thats missing, perhaps from Fanatics or game color. What is your recommended range for now, if one is to primarily buy from one range with the occasional fill from other ranges? Thanks!
AK 3rd Gen, Pro Acryl and AP Fanatics are all 3 my favorites and I use all 3 interchangably. My honest answer would be to mix and match between the rnages with the colors you like. I love Pro Acryl, and they are my main one, so your method is also completely sensible, just don't ever feel you have to buy into one thing completely.
@VinceVenturella thank you! I've been thinking about if I should get kimera as my next purchase instead. How do you find them these days compared to PA, AK an fanatic?
Seems like a bit of an odd question, but which signature series would you say is the most beginner friendly and which do you think provides more of a challenge to essentially master or utilize the most of out when it comes to various paint techniques?

Poor Larry the Ogre has been repainted so many times that I'm starting to suspect he is an Alpha Legionnaire. Edit: is everything okay, Vince? The end of the video there, you looked bothered by something.
Any idea when these are going to go up on the web site? I got an email flyer for preorders through Element games but not really wanting to deal with shipping from the UK to Cincinnati. On a completely unrealted subject, what playback speed do you use for the painting segments of your videos? I assume it is not real time.
Wonderful video both for the review of the new paint sets, and for the quick demos of how the paints are and how they can be used. Always learn new things from every one of your videos. I very much appreciate your time and efforts!!!
have you had much of a chance to mess around with fanatic yellow's? i recently saw a video by heresy for heretics where they used a warmish yellow by the fanatic line which covered over black in almost one coat. was wondering if youd reported similar findings?
I absolutely approve of your squiggy test subject! Glad you liked the sets (the green is also one of my favourites) 😎👍
Your set is totally awesome! It was exactly what the range needed for sure.
I assume it was asked a lot. but I just had the thought: I wish you would compete for Golden Demon again and enter Larry
Imagine Vince just repainting Larry each year, not even stripping the paint off him. And enter him into Golden Demon with the new layer
When I saw the ‘brown set’ I immediately thought of all the leather boots, straps, and bags I always try to find subtly different colors for.
I seriously should get the rest of the set, I was kinda disappointed by the caramel brown, wish those swatches were more accurate.
You painted that dude faster than it takes me to base a space marine backpack with my airbrush. I am humbly in awe of your talents.
I need a tee featuring Larry - I can't help but smile every time he appears on the painting desk ❤

Edit: is everything okay, Vince? The end of the video there, you looked bothered by something.
Yeah, just a missed edit point, I do that to gather my thoughts before a take. :)
A legionnaire? He is Alpharius... Or Omegon.
Larry the Ogre for President!
Vince says: "Flameon.'
My brain hears: "Fillet mignon" and now I'm firing up my grill for steaks.
Did you try the Adepticon set?
I have it, haven't gotten to really mess with it yet in full.
What are the other two in the top three paint ranges you love?
Pro Acryl, AK 3rd Gen and the new Army Painter fanatic.
Any idea when these are going to go up on the web site? I got an email flyer for preorders through Element games but not really wanting to deal with shipping from the UK to Cincinnati.
On a completely unrealted subject, what playback speed do you use for the painting segments of your videos? I assume it is not real time.

Intensities in ten cities
Wonderful video both for the review of the new paint sets, and for the quick demos of how the paints are and how they can be used. Always learn new things from every one of your videos. I very much appreciate your time and efforts!!!
Am I saying it wrong I’ve always saw his name as Flame on Miniatures. You know like what the human torch says from fantastic 4.
no idea
What do you think of two thin coats?
Haven't really had a chance to mess with them yet.
Big oof from monument that after the 3-4 videos on TH-cam for these paints I’ve gone to the site to buy them and they aren’t available yet
end of april, so not too long to wait!
What brush is the yellow brush?
Just a cheap synthetic brush from a pack, you can find the link in the description for that pack.

When do these new sets go on sale?
End of April
have you had much of a chance to mess around with fanatic yellow's? i recently saw a video by heresy for heretics where they used a warmish yellow by the fanatic line which covered over black in almost one coat. was wondering if youd reported similar findings?
I haven't messed with them a tremendous amount, it will happen. :)
Larry=Auto like
Didnt poor Larry lose some detail after the 40th priming?
Nope, you don't need to strip models and Larry is living plastic proof.
What are your three go to paint companies ?
Pro Acryl, AK 3rd Gen and Army Painter Fanatic, according to his review on the Fanatic paints.
