    What I love above all else about your channel, you're basically never sponsored. You never take dodgy sponsorships.
    So when something like this comes out, I know it's a product you truly believe in.

    Monument replied to a comment on their “what’s in the box” post that the petroleum brown was “almost an effects paint” examples they gave were shading metallics and oil stained cloth.

    Love the deep dive on the new sets! When I originally saw the new sets I wasn't enthused, for much of the same reasons you talked about (gloss/satin finish, metallic, etc.). But seeing the posts from Ben and Matt about what they intend the uses to be, and now seeing you actually put them on a model, I think I've been convinced to pick them up.

      I'm right there with you. Even outside of what Ben and Matt said and Vince demonstrated, they gave me other ideas for them.
      Like using the Dark Sea Ben or Dark Burgundy for the base of metallics after I matte varnish the rest of the model, not going back and adding some small shadows, etc.

    Vince, these paints deserve a deep dive to really show how they look like and what they are capable of. Like your colour videos but here it would all the warm grey/ivory range/white range from Pro Acryl to show that they are not the same and how they look when dry.
    A lot of work I know but your video about mettalics was and is still a game changer and doing it for this range of paints would really do them a great honour

    just bought both these sets. Stil getting consistent mileage out of yours and Ninjon's sets - I don't have a painting session without using at least one or two of y'alls paints. I have far, far too many paints and stopped buying more a long time ago.. unless there's a new monument hobbies release. Proacryl is the only brand of paint I've spent money on in over two years. If you wonder why he got those strange skull horn on his belly, it is actually part of lore. This guy want to die in battle, pierced his own dragon skull belt. He want to be resurected by Dragon Necromaners, but he must die in suicide-battle ritual in order for spell to work: ) Haha without that piece of lore his belt is kinda weird.@@VinceVenturella

I was skeptical at first also but now prefer all their metallics to any others I have. I just realized yesterday that Dark Bronze is perfect base for a 7 inch tall figure ( Thunderforge Titan ). I have some wild ideas about incorporating some OSL from below using gloss. Never seen it tried and I will use a test model first but I just love Monument. Thanks again for all you do!!!

    Excellent review Vince. I don't know if it's my lights, but I noticed the Royal Purple that you helped formulate is a bit on the satin side.
    Was that intended or could I have a bum bottle? I think the tone you guys achieved is incredible, but I do generally like working with matte paints.

    • @VinceVenturella

    @carlmayne3519 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Vince!, been watching your videos a good six or seven years now and really love your ease and style of explaining techniques and methods! ... I have a request, which is on 'not your usual' models, but I'm hoping you can come up with a fairly simple and easy / fast way of figuring out a technique ... I'm painting a few squads of bolt action commando's and I'm trying to make it look like they're on a night-time manoeuvres - stealthy and such - Now, Other than painting them dark or maybe adding a little OSL I'm at a loss to what i should / could be doing that wont take an eon per model! .. I'm an ok painter but need something that's going to be fairly easy and quick to do for batch painting ... Keep up the awesome videos :D

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So this is one of the 5 painting requests I get quite often that my primary answer is - just don't do it. It's actually a very complicated technique, the reason is simple. Nighttime lighting conditions are very specific, the moon is very blue light but also dim, it saps the saturation from colors, moves things toward grey and creates warm red-infused shadows. BUt there is a deeper problem here. You are not looking at your model under moonlight, you are looking at it under the normal likely warm light of your room or the world at that moment. So what youa re seeing with your eyes will always be different than what you are attempting to paint.
      Now, if you want the video on how to paint sort of moonlight colors, it's here - th-cam.com/video/pMFN3uNLwNs/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
      But sadly, the short answer to your question is there is no shortcut to completely changing the way we perceive the light on a miniature into something cold and blue, but it can be done.

    • @carlmayne3519
      @carlmayne3519 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VinceVenturella I was kind of expecting that answer - "no easy way". But thanks for the reply and thanks for explaining it as only you can do :D - Appreciate it!

    I really like the Dark Crimson as just a paint. Definitely needs a matte varnish afterwards though. I'm not really a fan of the gloss, but I make it work. The Petroleum Brown was a bummer for me. I'm really struggling with it. I don't remember if it was Ben or Matt, but they said it's mostly just for oil slicks and stains. As mostly a fantasy painter, it's not going to see a lot of use

    • @thatgenericdixienormouspicguy
      @thatgenericdixienormouspicguy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could use it as a quick “wet mud” effect or damp grime in a dungeon/stone environment on your bases if you wanted to. Or you could just add some matte medium to it I’m sure there is something else you could use it for.

      @MattCexwish ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @timothythorne9182 Ah, indeed, both the Petroleum Brown and Cexwish Crimson are best used as Effect paint to top off painted elements, but there are also some other applications that we will demonstrate in our Video Tutorials. The Petroleum is a fantastic paint to add some quick + grimey wet streaks to Walls, Floors, Sewers, onto Wood, etc., but mostly where it´s dark and damp. You can always add some drops of Matt Varnish to take the Gloss out too!

    I find that restricting one's self to various paints because they don't have a matt finish to be very limiting, and extra challenging because satin paints have a lot of advantages, especially when you should (99% of the time) be varnishing your model when you're done with the non-metallics/non-SFX painting stage. Either way, I wish it was in my budget to get all these paints! I love pro acryl.

    Thank you for another great video! I am using Scale75's "Petroleum Grey" as the base for my S2D army (which is slowly progressing into the highlight phase). I am curious as to what colors you would use to highlight petroleum grey. Also, since you enjoy painting big "beefy" warriors, have you seen the "Minotaur Haspists & Thyreans" from Conquest TLAoK? Highlighting the short fur on them has been challenging to say the least. Thanks again from Youngstown.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haven't seen those, the Conquest figs never really grabbed me. Now to the first question, any sort of lighter off white mixed in would be fine, like an ivory or something like that. A simple universal highlight tone like that lightly mixed in will generally do you well.

    I use Vallejo Model & Game Air as my benchmark for comparing other paints. So, from my perspective, is Pro Acryle superior to the Vallejo Model or Game Air? Unfortunately not, as I too had high hopes for this paint having heard only good things about it. The bottles are horrible, they don't mix well with my Vallejo Model or Game air paints & they struggle to go through my airbrush. I mostly paint scale models & thought they could be good for painting Earth tones on bases as they have a nice bright colour pallet & the bottles are 22ml vs Vallejo Model or Game Air 17ml, but I struggled so much that I just ended up using my more expensive Vallejo Model or Game Air paints in the end.
