So they're now on the same level as ProAcryl and AK Interactive 3rd gen. in pigmentation and coverage department? Wow, really - wow. That means they ARE better than Citadel and Vallejo. I have chosen AK as my main paint range, but now I may grab some of their Fanatic line. Thank you for the review, Vince. I highly value your opinion.
Vallejo is still one of the top paints and they costs 1/3rd of the price, they also have the best metal colors still acording to Vince. Pro Acryl is also one of the best and easy to collect. Army Painter Fanatics are great but are so much more expensive their basic sets cost hundreds of dollars.

I always thought some of the army painter hate was overblown as ive only had issues with a handful of colors and others have been staples for me since day 1, but i have definitely moved on to higher quality paints since then. im excited to give them another shot. my only issue is that by improving their paint line, which was admittedly maybe one of the worse out there quality wise, they also increased the pricing. While Vallejo and AK did several improvements to their lines while maintaining their already good prices.
@joek600 just a 3x increase in pigments is going to increase the price. Not idea what medium they were using and what they are using now but I thinks its a safe guess to say its more expensive. Like anything, you pay for quality.

@@wardy940 I agree that artists paints are not necessary for painting miniatures, but when compared they are actually ALOT cheaper. A tube of W&N artists colors starts from 6 euros and it’s 60ml of thick paste, meaning that once diluted it’s even more than the standard 17ml of hobby colors. Army Painter Fanatics according to what I heard are going to be priced around 4 euros. AK cost about 2.80 and Vallejo 3 euros. Kimera colors in my local shop cost 7 euros per bottle of 30ml. The claim of AP that we pay for quality becomes void when they didn’t develop anything that isn’t already around.
I've got a pretty large stock of Reaper paints that I've been looking to phase out because of availability alone. I'm really stoked to see Army Painter, which is literally in every store I walk into, stepping up their game. That level of availability is going to go a long way towards what I use on the regular.
Availability is such a huge thing for me. Every store around has AP but I can't say the same for the other brands. I just want a reliable tool I can easily refresh when I run out. Eg, I don't think Scale 75 or Reaper are even sold in my country. I've never seen them anywhere. I've also only seen ONE store with two thin coats and it was like a 90 minute drive away.
Right? Half the reason I have as many Reaper paints as I did was because I lived REALLY close to where they're made. When I moved out of that area, I stopped seeing them. My local options were exclusively Citadel and AP, neither of which I've wanted to grab. At least until the Fanatic line came out. @@Weaver_Games

I bet The Army Painter was watching Vince's videos and thought his paint collection looked a little light and wanted to help out. Thanks for all the videos vince. You've consistently given so much to the community and deserve a lot of praise.
I'm always used GW paints. I'm looking to do a switch and take the plunge. I have just had parkinsons surgery and it has helped my shakes. I feel like I'm good about supporting my community and I'm always helping fellow gamers improve. Through painting or simply painting models/terrain for them. There is nothing quite like helping someone get excited about playing a game and painting when I can say look at me and what I van do with parkinsons.
I'm glad to see these paints are getting some positive reviews, especially from the likes of Vince and Sam. I'm not an Army Painter fan boy (far from it), but was hoping for the best with this product as their availability in the UK is only matched by that of GW.
Just remember that Vince is an amazingly talented painter. Do not be discouraged that he can paint this in a few minutes at a level we can barely understand. Thanks for the quality review and legit demonstration!
I’m not gonna lie: when Vince said “there’s only one miniature we can use for this” and then brought out a terminator, I was deeply worried. I’m glad Larry the Ogre got to participate in his true calling later in the video!
This is really good to hear; I always winced when I heard someone had gotten an AP set when starting out. If these become the standard for newbies then said newbies are gonna have a far easier time :)
AP has been my go to for years. I'm glad to be on the ride with them, improving myself as they improve as well. Excellent review, thanks for sharing your professional opinion!
Vince, uncle A and sam lenz backing them tells you all youll ever need to know about the paints. If theyre good enough for these bosses theyre good enough for me👌👍👌
Great review Vince! Seeing you, Sam and Adam talking about AP paints really makes me interested in these. I’m excited to get some and trying them out, AP also seems to really enjoy the community and supporting it.
Thank you for this detailed and honest review Vince. I am a colourblind painter and I have been so interested in these paints because of the detailed colour descriptions and shade guides on them. I was nervous to replace my current paints until I knew how these paints actually performed. So again thank you for this.
I will admit that in the roughly 20 years I've been occasionally doing this hobby I have never considered what it must be like for someone colorblind. That's really interesting, which army schemes do you work on?
@@Fortunes.Fool. anything that I like the look of tbh. But it’s a lot of trial and error. I rely heavily on my wife and kids to tell me when colour schemes work and when they don’t. My 2 main factions are Custodes (as shadow keepers) and Spacewolfs in a darker blue-greytone scheme
Wow if they made an impression on you then i will definitely look into these!! 😮😊 Still amazing to watch you base coat and layer up!! Its like watching a magician at times!! 😊 great to see an honest review!!
I'm glad to hear these are good paints. Being at this quality is impressive given they are also priced super competitively and available at almost any hobby shop compared to other high-end paint brands. My two small local shops only carried GW and AP, so excited to get my hands on these one bottle at a time without being killed on shipping costs. Thanks for the review!
Army painters war paint box set was my first step into the hobby. I really had to fight with it. It wasn’t until I finally got some other brands of paint that I realized my struggles with glazing and getting a good finish were from the paints I was using. I’m glad that army painter is improving. Hopefully I’ll be able to give these a try someday.
Thanks Vince! I love my pro acryl, but it's not real easy to restock or replace them. I had been eyeing these, and you being the one top teir painter I trust to give advise to a noob painter like me, gives me more confidence that I was right. Having a full set will be great for my hobby group.
@AVspectre got a bunch of buddies who and cousins who love the hobby, but bot the space / money for it. I try to keep large stocks of hobby supplies, and give away a bunch of models they just happen to want. So when we hang. I duffle bag it up and bring the hobby wherever we go!
Thanks for the review Vince. I was hoping that Army Painter would send you a set. Your review is the one that means the more to me. I know that you gave your honest opinion and your skills are the best. I already pre-ordered the big set but now my mind is at ease. Also, thank you for using Larry as a model 😊
Thanks for the video! For those interested the tainted gold metallic is actually pretty close to metal colors gold so it mixes nicely with bright gold and probably copper… at least for my tastes in gold 😊
Looking at the price of the Fanatic bundles, they're a very good deal also, lower price than similar paint sets from Vallejo, at least in the UK. Also, if they thin down super well, you'll be getting a lot of value for your money. Great review, cheers Vince. Great to see AP stepping up, the more competition, and range of paints available, is nothing but a good thing for us hobbyists.
Pro Acryl is similar value IMO and I think they might be a better set of sets to collect. None of their paints in subsequent sets are repeated, so you know as you buy the expansions you won't get any repeats.
what I find interesting is I tried to find some sets of the vallejo and could not find now it looks like they have some small sets like blues, purples, skin tones AP has sets. Makes it easy to get into
Pretty great to see the reviews coming in on this line. It seems that AP has created a competent paint line, and I can't wait to try it out. I managed to get the complete set on pre-order at a fairly steep discount, and I can say all of the reviews I'm seeing from both big and small channels are making me feel good about that purchase.
Thank you for a quick but thorough review…always appreciate your insights and recommendations, and it sounds like Army Painter has come a long way. Thanks again!
Vince, thanks for the great review. As a retailer who already has the full AP Fanatic rack on preorder I’ve been watching a lot of reviews of the Fanatic paints. When I saw yours come up I was very nervous because (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) I’ve always found you to be a bit of a pretentious snob about these sorts of things. To use an analogy if it was food being reviewed most of the other reviews I’ve seen come from amateur foodies, or a restaurant reviewer for a newspaper. But you, you are more like the guy that hands out the Michelin stars. So to see you give these such a positive review (after all you rated them on par with a premium paint line that has a series of signature colors with your name on them) really puts my mind at ease and makes me look forward to sharing these paints with my customers. Again thank you so much for the great information and about as honest and tough a review I think anyone could ask for.
Really glad to hear that these are actually good! Not cause I had a preorder for these or anything, but more so because the low amount of available previews, which ominously excluded all of the bigger names in the youtube painting space. What AP had put on display had me cautiously optimistic, but you never know. Never preorder is still a code to live by, but it's good to see that those who did PO this won't be getting a product that has any glaring issues that were kept obfuscated till release.
Thanks for the review. I preordered the complete set after Sam and Adam joined their team and I'm really happy to get a good review from you for these. Have a great year :)
"There is only one model we can possibly test our new paint set with..." Another job for Larry the Ogre I see. "... a space marine." Oh. Enjoy the day off Larry, you've earnt it. Spoke too soon.
Well, seeing as they're tied in your book with the best out there is heartening. A "decent" rating for the metallics is perhaps even more shocking! Good stuff. Well done, Army Painter.
The initial most attractive thing about these paints is that you can get them in a box with enough paints to cover almost any scenario and have tones for shadows and highlights, at a fairly reasonable price considering the quantity you get. I've only got back into the hobby recently and buying tons of individual paints from other brands is daunting and inaccessible, this makes things much easier. So I'm really glad to know the quality is decent, so I'm definitely going to be picking this set up. Thank you for the thorough review, lots of useful info!
looking forward to a video focused on the flesh colors in this range. I have some Sudanese tribesmen waiting to be assembled and painted. love your hobby cheating videos
Great review Vince. I'm happy to see Army Painter continuing to improve. They've always had such brand recognition, especially for new paibters (when we first started a couple.of years ago it was them and GW that we knew about), so it's great that they now have so many products that shine like this.
i feel like this is good for hobbying in general because it removes a noob trap from the space. its so easy to get the old army painter paints and then u have bad paint that hinders you. most people dont have 100s and 100s of paints and a budget to just rebuy 15 colours they only bought last week. a lot of people just get whats easy to get and then stick with what they have and what they know which made army painter existing in the state it was in a negative for the hobby. ive ordered some of these looking forward to trying them out.
Vince, I've been excited waiting for this video to drop because I knew you would put them through the paces 100%! Thanks for the airbrush info and your metallic take. I don't really trust others people's opinions on metallics tbh, I've become kind of a metallic paint snob since I started using VMC and GSW metal pigments, lol. Thanks for the info and opinion. I'm excited to have a range like this that I know stores by me are going to keep in stock!
Thank you for demonstrating the usage of the new paint line on a real model, Vince. I would love to see a video on wet blending with the new fanatics line since that was previously my favorite painting technique until i discovered glazing only recently.
Nice level headed review. Unlike the other review videos I watched on Fanatic , that left the impression these are some ground breaking innovation in the paint world, that'll replace ones current paints, you're only claiming they are up to the level of the current leadings paints and not a jump in a new higher tier of paints. AP was pushing hard that these paints are the first with that much pigment with their new stabilizer innovation.
So glad to see this! Have not fully trusted some of the earlier previews either because reviewers seemed a little too tight with AP or they were mostly tabletop level painters and weren't necessarily familiar with brands other than AP and GW. AK are my favorite paints, but the colors are a bit more muted. Sounds like these paints will be a great compliment!
I paint a lot of WW2 and Dark ages figures and I think these new AP paints are perfect for that look. One thing to note is that the new washes they have are the very best now.
It’s nice there has been a shake up in the miniature painting industry, let’s see how, or if, the others respond or accept the new status quo. I don’t know if I’ll be buying the full set, but with certainly be getting some to try out and add to my (almost exclusive) Vallejo range of paints.
I always felt a bit of “guilt” where I could not recommend Army Painter paints before despite their competitive pricing: as pointed out they did not lay down well in my opinion. Good to see things have changed with the new paints. I will pick up a set to use and can then say from my own experience how they do. Collecting paints is a bit of a “problem” but it is insane the variety there is. Something to be said for “limited pallets” to focus on technique and blends than particular paints. Thanks!
I'd be interested to see an update in a month or so, which of these become the go to staples over your old paints, and which ones you stayed using other brands and why
Happy to hear that you consider these to be close to or at equal footing with the best hobby paints available. Always liked Army Painter as a brand (really happy with their customer service for example), but their main line of paints where at the bottom quality wise. That has changed. I wonder how long it will take for people's impressions of the brand to catch up to the quality of their current lines.
Seems like a great improvement. Ive thrown the few original war paints I had in the trash and was shocked that those were the pack in samples they CHOSE to put in my bundles of washes and speed paints to advertise the brand. Doesnt seem like these do anything to take me away from my current mix of paints but having this version of army painter paints in basically every game store ever is a big win for new painters and the people that primarily shop through their LGS And Reboot was great. The dark gritty... uh... reboot? Was very cool.
Glad to hear they improved so much! The few AP paints I previously had were ones I gave away - they were just so lame. But AP is relatively common in game/hobby shops. I don't *need* new paint.... but a bottle or two picked up at random "support the local shop" drop ins is good! And ProAcryl leans towards flowy - nice to have options, if these are thicker.
If they keep their pricing at the same level as their existing paints, these are probably going to be the best value paints on the market, along with wide international distribution and availability.
The "Hexad" system, even though I'm not a beginner painter, has been absolutely invaluable to me since despite choosing painting as a hobby, I'm colorblind. So it does have some niche added benefit on top of just being beginner-friendly.
Always a fan of Army Painter from afar. My local shop carries them, and says they're great to work with. Their paints are also very affordable. That said, I've only ever kept their washes in my rotation. Especially after the GW reformulation. AP and GW are the only two paints available to me locally, so it'll be nice to know I can finally pick them up when I see a color I may like, and it not be a mystery whether itll be a good paint or not.
Yeah availablility is huge. I don't have good access to pro acryl or such either and APs paints are basically everywhere in large quantities. Them now(well when stuff rolls out) being up there with the best of them is gonna be fantastic.
Hey Vince, thanks for sharing your honest opinions with good examples and results. Your videos from WW to hobby cheating have been of great value to me since getting back in the hobby in 2019. So I’m saying I appreciate you, and I’m proud of you for the hard work you’ve put into your channel and it’s amazing to watch it grow!

These fanatic paints have really caught my attention since they were announced and ive been following them closely, ive heard great things about them but i can definitely say after watching your review im genuinely sold. I’ve been eyeballing the full Fanatic set as I love the idea of having such a wide spectrum that make it easy to see how they relate to one another. I’ve been wanting to hear more reviews on them though - especially from painters completely outside of the research and testing. I’m glad that some creators were invited to contribute their input and enjoy all the creators involved. It’s just good to hear the thoughts of a wider group. So far - sounding pretty good!
Great, honest review Vince. Love that you didn't rave about them but instead tried to be objective. It is a good enough review for me to try a few out and see what I think. Which I think is all a review should do.
Glad to have your insights on these. I've been very interested in this new range from what I have seen elsewhere, and this is a good and comprehensive test. Thank you for emphasizing that these will want to be thinned for best performance, as that will be a very good thing to know when I finally have the opportunity to play with some of these.
Nice to see these aren't garbage, I may pick up a couple to try. I absolutely hate their old paint line. Which makes me sad cause I liked Army Painter as a company. That said gonna stick with vallejo and citadel.
Sounds like these are good buy, glad my LGS ditched GW and switched to Army Painter, been a huge fan of them when i was able to pick up a dam good deal off ebay around 100+ paints for $30 + S&H. Talking about a good early buy when i was first getting into mini painting. Glad these are a improvement.

Nice to hear they perform well. Hopefully AP succeed with these - it's always nice to have more options!
@@vancetaylor9054 Yeah it's nice to see! I could order more variety of paints online but since I'm in Canada I'm always afraid of paints in the winter sitting outside or in a mailbox and freezing. It's -23C today (--9.4F) so unless I just stockpile in the summer or something it's really great to just have something closeby I can pickup a bottle or two of when needed
Reboot was a great cartoon indeed! Love your review of the paints.
And they plan on rebooting reboot
To mend and defend
Yeah, I might have watched one of your games right before I recorded this and saw the "Reboot reference" opening, which makes me laugh every time, so it might have been in my head from you directly. It is a legit cartoon though. Right up there with the 90s TMNT.
@@VinceVenturellaTomer really surprised me when he did that. I was so happy haha!
I bet The Army Painter was watching Vince's videos and thought his paint collection looked a little light and wanted to help out.
Thanks for all the videos vince. You've consistently given so much to the community and deserve a lot of praise.
We are enablers.
Love this!
I'm glad to see these paints are getting some positive reviews, especially from the likes of Vince and Sam. I'm not an Army Painter fan boy (far from it), but was hoping for the best with this product as their availability in the UK is only matched by that of GW.
Now THIS is the practical review and test I have been waiting for.
I’m glad Larry the Ogre got to participate in his true calling later in the video!
the coverage on that gold looks crazy good compared to retributor armour
Nice to see AP stepping up their paint game
Even while staying affordable
This is really good to hear; I always winced when I heard someone had gotten an AP set when starting out. If these become the standard for newbies then said newbies are gonna have a far easier time :)
AP has been my go to for years.
I'm glad to be on the ride with them, improving myself as they improve as well.
Excellent review, thanks for sharing your professional opinion!
Right on
Vince, uncle A and sam lenz backing them tells you all youll ever need to know about the paints. If theyre good enough for these bosses theyre good enough for me👌👍👌
Great review Vince! Seeing you, Sam and Adam talking about AP paints really makes me interested in these. I’m excited to get some and trying them out, AP also seems to really enjoy the community and supporting it.
You should!
Still amazing to watch you base coat and layer up!!
Glad to help!
That’s such a wholesome idea - a well-stocked hobby den to share :)
@AVspectre got a bunch of buddies who and cousins who love the hobby, but bot the space / money for it. I try to keep large stocks of hobby supplies, and give away a bunch of models they just happen to want. So when we hang. I duffle bag it up and bring the hobby wherever we go!
@@kaz9357 That’s awesome. MVP 😊
Thanks for the review Vince. I was hoping that Army Painter would send you a set. Your review is the one that means the more to me. I know that you gave your honest opinion and your skills are the best. I already pre-ordered the big set but now my mind is at ease. Also, thank you for using Larry as a model 😊
Great in depth review based purely on field testing as always- thanks, Vince!
My pleasure!
So many options. As someone who started in 2nd gen 40K, what a time to be alive! 🥳
I know, so much choice!
A Reboot reference? Already my favorite youtube painter now maybe my favorite person?
The one TH-camr I know it's not going to be bias .. loved the review!
I bought into the hype and preordered the Mega Set. I am glad you are giving a good review from them! Really excited to update from the OG warpaints
Thanks for the video! For those interested the tainted gold metallic is actually pretty close to metal colors gold so it mixes nicely with bright gold and probably copper… at least for my tastes in gold 😊
Cool, thanks!
None of their paints in subsequent sets are repeated, so you know as you buy the expansions you won't get any repeats.
what I find interesting is I tried to find some sets of the vallejo and could not find now it looks like they have some small sets like blues, purples, skin tones
AP has sets. Makes it easy to get into
@@steveisaak4320 Monument Hobbies has sets too.
Couldn't agree more!
A review at Vince V quality, like the paints, that's everything you need
Thank you for a quick but thorough review…always appreciate your insights and recommendations, and it sounds like Army Painter has come a long way. Thanks again!
Great, honest review, these paints are going to be a lot of fun!!! 🎨
We really think that your customers are going to love it! If you’re attending GAMA please come say hi!
Oh, I take no offense, I am a total paint snob, I will own that. So I was happy to see these were up to my standards. :)
As a partially colorblind painters, the 6 color scale is amazing as I can now make sure all the colors actually work together.
"There is only one model we can possibly test our new paint set with..." Another job for Larry the Ogre I see. "... a space marine." Oh. Enjoy the day off Larry, you've earnt it.
Spoke too soon.
The hardest working ogre in wargaming. Turns out, he was working this weekend.
I was going to write something along these lines as well, then I kept watching the the old dog made an appearance!
You just sold a set on release. Thanks for a great review.
Great review, I really enjoyed seeing them used for different applications on models. 👍🏻👍🏻
looking forward to a video focused on the flesh colors in this range.
Thanks for the thorough authentic review Vince!
Thanks Darcy! Hope you're doing well.
i feel like this is good for hobbying in general because it removes a noob trap from the space. its so easy to get the old army painter paints and then u have bad paint that hinders you. most people dont have 100s and 100s of paints and a budget to just rebuy 15 colours they only bought last week. a lot of people just get whats easy to get and then stick with what they have and what they know which made army painter existing in the state it was in a negative for the hobby. ive ordered some of these looking forward to trying them out.
Mad props to the Hexadecimal shoutout around minute 4, she Rocked . I was always going to like the video, but this is where it happened.
Thank you Vince, now I can feel confident that if I buy a set of these paints, it won't be the paints holding my progress back :D
I'm impressed Larry still has detail left.
These definitely seem like they're stacking up to their hype!
Also, Vince...my mans...the airbrushes. Hurts my spirit every time you bring one out 😂
So glad to see this!
I would like that as well…
Happy to hear that you consider these to be close to or at equal footing with the best hobby paints available.
Doesnt seem like these do anything to take me away from my current mix of paints but having this version of army painter paints in basically every game store ever is a big win for new painters and the people that primarily shop through their LGS
And Reboot was great.
In miniature painting, just as in my spiritual stuff, I have developed the perspective that choosing one teacher, maybe two and sticking with them is best and I have chosen Vince as my go to miniature 'guru'.
He is certainly an excellent “spirit animal” to be your guide. 😂
His library is a one-stop essential starting and advanced learning to start off right without bad habits.
These fanatic paints have really caught my attention since they were announced and ive been following them closely, ive heard great things about them but i can definitely say after watching your review im genuinely sold. I dont put a lot of stock in what people online say most of the time, but you've always been so knowledgeable about paints in general, and all the different companies you can buy paints to paint your models, with your review for this range being so positive i will definitely pick them up. Always appreciate the honesty, it means a lot, thank you and all the best...oh and say hi to the dogs for me 😂
Man this is an excellent review. I have some to pull out and write something up about but this later this month. Great stuff thank you for doing this.
Totally agree!
Thanks for reviewing these Vince. Always informative and honest.
Thank you for the quick compare on the AK Gen3 range. I love the Gen3 range.
Great, honest review Vince. Love that you didn't rave about them but instead tried to be objective.
It is a good enough review for me to try a few out and see what I think. Which I think is all a review should do.
Vince is looking up into the eyes of the lord to deliver you today's message!
Just praying to the paint gods.
Glad to have your insights on these. I've been very interested in this new range from what I have seen elsewhere, and this is a good and comprehensive test. Thank you for emphasizing that these will want to be thinned for best performance, as that will be a very good thing to know when I finally have the opportunity to play with some of these.
What a glorious and blessed Saturday! I didn't expect your review to come out so soon. But it's definitely welcomed!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Nice to see these aren't garbage, I may pick up a couple to try. I absolutely hate their old paint line. Which makes me sad cause I liked Army Painter as a company.
That said gonna stick with vallejo and citadel.
They are far superior to both Citadel and Vallejo Game Color and slightly better than Vallejo Model Color.
The review we've all been waiting for!
I'm happy to see AP coming out with an excellent product. I can see you have made alot of progression lately as a painter too! Thanks for the video!
Thank you very much!
My local gaming store is getting these and I appreciate the thorough review.
I am just getting started with mini painting for D&D. I got this set to start.
Another great honest review
Sounds like these are good buy, glad my LGS ditched GW and switched to Army Painter, been a huge fan of them when i was able to pick up a dam good deal off ebay around 100+ paints for $30 + S&H. Talking about a good early buy when i was first getting into mini painting. Glad these are a improvement.
Army painter leaving the meme status is awesome to see. For whatever reason, a lot of people are in a situation where their local game store only stocks AP and Citadel paints.
Mine are all like this; one just recently started stocking ProAcryl.
Great and fair review. Im sold, moving away from Citadel to Pro acryl and Fanatic, I am over the terrible paint pots.
Great review. No nonsense and honest. This is why we support Vincey V!
I was hoping you'd review this. Clicked on the notification as fast as I possibly could
Great review Vince!
I just picked up the smaller starter set of these paints for my son who is just getting into the hobby and he was delighted with them!
Thank you for your review. As a new painter this box sounds great for me.
Absolutely!
Thx for the review.
It looks like a improvement, over their previous range.
I was almost shocked not to see our old friend Larry...until he came in. What a relief .
