Tia, Tia, Tia you need to watch the EXTENDED versions of the Lord of the Rings, all the way through without falling asleep to announce that you have watched the trilogy. It's a marathon but sooooooo much fun.
Yeah, if it wasn't all ten hours of extended editions, you haven't seen LotR. There's also _The Hobbit_ movies to check out, which it's trendy to hate on and yes it probably didn't need to be a trilogy, but they're great fun if you don't hold them to the standard of LotR and just take them as an extended adaptation of a kid's bedtime story, which people forget is what _The Hobbit_ is supposed to be. It was never some vaunted LotR prequel like many people erroneously expect it to be.
I will happily and openly announce that I loved The Hobbit trilogy though I do agree that it isn't exactly true to the source material unless you include the timeline history of that time period that is in one of the appendices in the back of the three volume set of TLoR,
Fantastic coverage of your travels guys! I always enjoy watching and have subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great work! Hope to see you doing more in our wonderful country (Australia) Am very interested to know, what cameras do you guys use for the footage? One looks like a Canon DSLR?
No no no no no no no
We shoot on a Sony A7SIII 🙂@@jimlad74
NZ can be brutal with wind, car is a good choice 👍
A car kettle and hot water bottles are a really good idea, having warm toes makes for happy campers.
I second the hot water bottle idea. I car camp and I loooove hot water bottles
Your map shows Queenstown and then south. Please don't miss Milford sound... even if you cant afford a cruise there the drive in is spectacular and well worth it. Southern point of nz is not that importanr or as amazing
Yes,in my opinion Milford Sound is the Gem of all Gems in this incredibly beautiful Country
I was talking to a man from NZ once. He reassured me that it only rains twice a week there - the first time it lasts for three days, second time lasts for four days.
If you have the time , consider not following State Highway One all the way . East Cape , Hawke Bay and the Wairarapa is a nice alternative route to Wellington. Or take the Napier - Taihape road back to S.H.1 from Hawke Bay (even better)
If you guys decide to come via the Wairarapa give me a holler. I'll introduce you to some big beasties.
Keep up to date with the weather you 2!!! Ex tropical cyclone Lola is heading towards NZ!! Gale force winds huge seas over the next 2 days, stock up on supplies & stay safe 🙌🏽🌀🌀🌀💨💨🌬️🌬️
go to Rotorua if you can
City in the North Island, New Zealand
I was always going to visit New Zealand since it’s just a two hour flight from Australia I thought I would wait until I was sick of traveling to faraway places. Well, now I’m too sick to travel any more and I missed out on going there. I have a cousin who lives there so I rely on her traveling here instead. It’s great to see it through your eyes. 😊
I still hope & pray that one day your dream of coming to NZ will come true, or that you get to experience it some how 🩵 much love friend xx
The story behind 90 mile beach being 50 miles, is the colonists measured the distance by days of travel but didn't account for horses covering less distance per day on soft sand
Math is just like that sometimes.
Hi guys im from Aus but I've been to NZ a couple of times. It is stunning but what you must understand is ..... The reason it is sooo stunningly beautiful is because it rains All the time 😂. On one of my trips to NZ it rained everyday of my 17 day trip. I didn't mind though we still did everything regardless, i mean that is why its so beautiful ❤ after all.
This ozzie agrees nz has awesome fish and chips. Also try hokey pokey ice cream
You can actually drive to Russell. The road starts at Whakapara 15km north of Whangarei and is quite scenic. And then you can take the car ferry to Opua near Paihia. The car ferry is $17 for a car no charge for the occupants.
Mangonui Fish Shop won Best Fish and Chips in New Zealand
I’m in Invercargill….just a few minutes away from Bluff at the very bottom of the South Island. Looking forward to following your trip. I’m kinda hoping I get a chance to see the two of you goofing around when you eventually make it down here lol.
If you can, make a detour to the Coromandel and visit Pokohino beach, still my all time favorite beach, and Wangamata (with a kayak trip to donut island!!), Hot water beach is fun for a dig your own spa in the sand, and Cathedral Coves. It's a very beautiful part of NZ!
And don't miss Thames in November, when the Steampunk Festival occurs.
It’s hard to be cool and classy when it’s windy. Beautiful place.
I think you would have enjoyed the drive to Russell, you catch a car ferry from Opua (where you went through) to OKiato and then drive to Russell. Very picturesque and historic as you said.
This wind we are having right now is crazy and unusual. It's because the cyclone at Noumea and Vanuatu is causing a huge ridgeline that stretches from Australia to New Zealand and you are right at the very end of it at the worst possible time. I'm at the Australian end of it and it is crazy here too.
Should visit Oreti Beach near Invercargill for a comparison. Wind straight of Antarctica, and constant enough that the trees along the coast are sculpted by it.
Bay of Islands is a stunning part of the country, but it’s one of those places that really isn’t so great without awesome weather. Russell also has New Zealand’s oldest surviving church and I think you can still see the bullet holes in the exterior of the building from the battle between British and Māori back in 1845.
A lot of travelers come here and are amazed how long the Northern part is.
I really hope the weather improves as we've really thrown the worst at you. That "mood" lighting was genius
Haha this reminds me of a famous quote: ‘Sometimes it does us a power of good to remind ourselves that we live … where two tectonic plates meet, in a somewhat lonely stretch of windswept ocean just above the roaring forties. If you want drama - you’ve come to the right place.’ - Sir Geoffrey Palmer, a former prime minister of New Zealand
Don't be shy to ask for help, directions, sandwiches. Most kiwis like to help if they can. Enjoy yr stay team. Hope the weather improves 👍🏾🍻
Camping trick from when I had a house truck to stop your car wobbling at night due to the wind.
Your Beamer probably comes with a wind-up, concertina jack. (For changing a flat tyre). Buy yourselves a second on. Then…..
At night, use one each side of the car to just support it. No wind rock, no squeaking suspension. 👍
This NZ series is already so SO good!!! happy travels, excited for what's to come!
That parcel shelf in your car is the perfect spot to put the laptop for "movie night", seems like Tia needs to watch the EXTENDED versions of the Lord of the Rings 🤣
Okay Maori 101 and I ain't no linguist a, e, i, o, u - pronounced r ,air, eee, or, ooo. Wh is Fff, tani and tane is tar knee. Ng is said in the nose so hold you tongue in the top of your mouth while saying ng. So somewhere like Whakatane would be Fucka Tar Knee (you may think Kiwis swear a lot at first ;-)) Hope you are having a great trip and the luge in Rotorua if you missed the sand-dune rides in Northland. Enjoy your trip reminds me of younger days when the wife and I planned our holidays in NZ out of the back of a Suzuki Jeep based on which light-house we would go to. On suggestion - go to a camping store and get a little cooker and kettle, worth the spend for warming up on cold mornings.
Really missed you guys. Well I had seen you every day for weeks, as I had
binged watch your whole trip. Have fun & it will get colder Tia, rug up.
The most positive couple ever. Such a joy to see you guys enjoy everything. Whished there were more like you.
I love NZ. I hope you enjoy your trip! It looks cold and windy!
Good windy experience for your Wellington & bottom of the South Island destinations. Such a beautiful country to explore. The cold wind is just a part of the adventure. Enjoy the journey. 🤗🌈🙌
Kiwis are very honourable, and tend to pay for those things on the honour system - you may see all of the honesty boxes in the South for fruit and vegetables. Personally, I’d pay online or when I went to leave!
Thoroughly enjoyed see you both begin your NZ travels with your smiles and senses of humour. Take care and stay safe. Looking forward to your next vlog
Enjoying your ramble through North Island. PS as an Aussie, the BEST fish n chips in this country I have found was on Constitution Dock in Hobart, Tasmania. Eating blue grenadier on the dock, watching the Antarctic Division ship under maintenance was just special: you both MUST travel through Tassie next time you visit. Oh, and looking forward to your take on Taupo and Huka Falls.
Enjoy all your video's Tia and Cheveyo. Look fwd to seeing you both next Sunday. 💕💕ps Your bloopers are always a laugh.😂😂
Thank for the memories. I was stationed in Singapore and we went on exercise to NZ in 1975. Great memories of North Island, 90 mile beach and the lighthouse.
Aww, this brings back memories, I lived in Russell as a kid. We used to run up Flagstaff hill for PE lol. Unfortunate about the weather, but unfortunately you probably chose the worst season - spring is notoriously windy and rainy, and Northland always gets the wild weather from hurricanes in the Pacific. I hope you make it to Coromandel, Auckland's black sand beaches on the west coast (highly recommend Bethells and the hike to the lake from the beach) and Waiheke Island - those would be my top suggestions for the North Island. Bay of Plenty is great too. I would suggest driving down the west coast to Auckland and then switching over to the east coast. There isn't much to see in the central north island until you get to the central plateau.
The quality of your vlogs is just fantastic. The scene where you were playing cards in the car had such a great vibe. Great stuff!
South Island omg so beautiful , hope it hasn’t changed to much went youth hosteling and driving from north to south but it was in the 70s we had mini cars. Little blue and big red , fun times
You'll have to come down to the Catlins for some real wind 😉
@18:30 you can see, how cold it is and Tia turns slow in a ⛄. Why you both wearing still flipflops?
Photography is amazing & love your choice of music. ❤
Saw your roadmap travel route going south…. You’re missing the drive through lake tekapo and mount cook . Walk the hooker valley walk at mount cook. Don’t miss this area.
That’s not the actual route 😅
Phew! We love you guys
Three great rainy day movie options 1-Boy and 2 -hunt for the wilder people 3-Whale rider ,good to see you found the homegrown cold pressed juice. Amazing vlog under the feice spring whether 😅😎😎
The Wilder People is a great movie, we watched it years ago. Way funnier than the premise would suggest.
@@OnePackWanderers most of Taika Wiatiti's films have those loveable quirky characters. ... sorry about the whether guys I have been preying for sun for yas . 🌺🌺 Aroha from ruawai 👋
The weather genuinely doesn’t bother us. We actually like seeing some places in less than ideal conditions, it feels more real for some reason.
Then Goodbye Pork Pie- for when you hit Wellington, and Two Little Boys - for when you hit Southland. (I'm commenting waaaay too often, as I've not traveled my own country for 25 years 😢....so I'm gunna follow you guys)
Hey! Enjoy your trip. I called in almost the identical spot to you at Cape Reinga in June 2022. With almost identical wind. I set up my tent but choose to sleep in the car.
Best way of getting across the bay is by boat. Yep, haven't been able to master walking across it yet.😂😂
Could never accuse you pair as not fun loving. I was in Kiwi land about 10 yrs ago for a fishing trip about the same time, off the south island and we had brilliant weather up until the last day when a storm came in and grounded everytthing for two days. That was fun.
Kia Ora, remember that NZ is a very "skinny" country and the winds come in from the south it gets cold, Bl...Y cold most any month of the year..90 mile beach is an official gazetted road. The Te Araroa Trail that starts at the lighthouse and ends at Bluff in the bottom of the south island 3000kms aledgedly. a nice 120 day walk.Just wait till the winds go and the views are as good as any, anywhere.
You guys really need to do New Zealand in the summer to do it justice guys. If you come back in January, you wouldn’t be able to get a spot at that campsite because it’ll be all day sun with 28 degree weather
This is one of my favorite videos of your because it’s a little sassy and it’s genuine 🫶
I hope new Zealand, have something you really don't like, if you do get Tia to say how bad it is. Like the big potato in Australia, because now Australia is getting a good looking one, so far it is a lot better than the old one. Thank you Tia for saying it looked like a big bowel motion. Just love watching you two xxxx
I love the "I ran" video tribute to flock of seagulls at 23:39 😊
The weather in this country has not been great this year. Quite literally we've had some of the worst storms in decades (or even ever - Auckland floods in Feb) all in this year. Had a few days of sun here in Hamilton. Hopefully summer will actually be sunny this year. If it is a super sunny day make sure you guys slap on sunscreen (especially you Cheveyo) cause the NZ sun is incredibly harsh. NZ & Australia have the highest rates of skin cancer for a reason (really NZ but it's generally a lot sunnier in Aus so they have higher stats). The Ozone is really weak here so you can feel all those rays hitting you.
Edit: Haha as soon as you mentioned debunking the two oceans meeting I knew it was going to be the Tom Scott video!
The one time I've been to that light house it was super foggy so I didn't get to see anything which was sad cause I was like 14 at the time. Definitely wasn't windy though!
Also 90 mile beach got it's name from how far horses could travel in a day. So when the people that named it got to the end of it (after starting at the start) I guess they estimated it to be 90 miles based on how far they know horses can travel in a day. But they didn't take into account they were traveling on sand so they didn't get nearly as far as they thought they did.
Your video made our day! 😂😂 You’re so much fun! Can’t wait for the next episode in your NZ adventure! 70K 👏😃😃
Great to see you hitting the road again guys, sad about the bad weather and wind as the Bay of Islands on a sunny day is spectacular and missing the Hole in the Rock is a shame but hey, you can't do it all. Happy Trails :)
The sand dunes were amazing. I didn't know NZ had anything like that.
NZ has just about everything you can think of in terms of nature somewhere in the country.
You'd be surprised, N.Z has a little bit of everything. There's even a desert near the middle of the north island.
Happy travelling, thank you, love you guys ❤ Safe driving!
Blue Cod is the absolute best Fish, first only to Haddock, Mangonui and Opua are 2 of the very best Fish n Chip shops. Both up North.
Well done with 70k 👏
And I thought the top of the North Island was sub tropical! 10.30. Thanks for taking us there.
I really hope you can finish your trip before the rains hit. I did a 20 day tour of both islands in November 2019, starting with the south island, and the rains came through just days after resulting in flooding in the south island. In fact I was told that in some places in the south island, the Haas River, that they measured the yearly rainfall in metres not inches.
Interesting how that beach looked exactly like 90 Mile Beach in Victoria! A straight, long line of beach in both directions as far as the eye can see. Maybe one is named after another!
And neither of them are exactly 90 miles long 😂
@@OnePackWanderers Haha yeah, so weird!!! 😂
#goals #relationshipgoals #lifegoals #tia&cheveyo
Such a pity about the weather, Bay of Islands is usually stunning, hopefully it improves for you. Those fish & chips are regarded as the best in NZ.
I remember driving across a one lane bridge in the South Island which had a railway track running down the middle of it. Before driving onto the bridge there was a large traffic sign saying "give way to trains". New Zealanders can be very droll.
Fish and chips is great in New Zealand. Yes I am Australian. 😊
Also. Maori words in place names... you get close if you pronounce every vowel individually... Not that I am any kind of expert😂
We were in Whangarei last weekend and it was pouring rain for 3 days straight.
Now we are in Napier, we drove from Lake Taupo to Napier today. The weather is beautiful. I hope you guys don't skip Napier and Lake Taupo. If you happens to go to Mt. Ruapeho it's nice drive but unfortunately the Skywalk at Mt. Ruapeho is close but still you will see plenty of ice on top of the mountain. If you travel to Napier use State Highway 49 from Tongariro National Park instead of Highway 1, it's more scenic road to use Highway 49, very challenging drive but amazing scenic road.
By the way the way, some parts of Hobbit Town is close, there's renovations going on to that place in the moment.
ahh the NZ weather.... now you know why we all prefer Australia
You think the wind's bad there? Wait till you get to wellington lol. Walking sideways is a skill you adapt, It's raining? Forget about using an umbrella they all break in about 5 minutes
fun fact, every single bit of land you can see in the bay of islands is part of an island.
Your videography is excellent, guys. Thanks. :D
We loved the Bay of Islands on our last visit in 2013. Looking forward to seeing your tour of the South Island as we head there in February ‘24 🙂👍
We haven't seen LOTR, either! Bill's confident he'd fall asleep (he did during Harry Potter movies, too). 😂 NZ is certainly looking windy - wow!!
So there you have it! The light really does switch off when you close the fridge door!
Thanks again for sharing. Such good energy you both bring to the world. Fun fact Australia imports most of our fish from NZ. Cheveyo you could never offend 😊
Just a suggestion if you don't mind eating tinned green beans, carrots, corn, butter beans, chickpeas, lentils etc , cold with mayo to get healthy meals where there are no cooking options. I will even make cold coffee rather than go without it.
Wondering if you've named the car yet? In Oz and NZ an older car is called a bomb..... How about cherry bomb?
Fish was probably Blue Grenadier also known as Hoki in Australia.
the weather up that way at the moment is extra bad, big storms, trees and power lines are to be down up there apparently so, be careful
I was born in New Zealand. Not there now, it’s very boring in the winter, great in summer though and great scenery.
Stewart Island is officially the Southern most part of NZ,another place that serves amazing F n C.
Great video. Looking forward to the series. You two are really developing a style. I recall your first Iphone vlogs. How far you've come. Looks like your doing some cool color grading, your editing and shot set up's are elevated. Also great story telling ect
Thanks again for a great video. Looking forward to your next vlog. BTW....The best way to see places you might not otherwise see, is on a local ferry. My husband and I get on a ferry (any ferry) whenever we are in a place that has one and just see where it takes us. Have found some beautiful places that way. Keep enjoying and hope the wind lets up.
The Mangonui fish and chip shop has won the best in the country like a dozen times. But the locals prefer the one up the hill
70K - yea !
If you want to diffuse light from your phone to look like a lantern, you can put a bottle of water on top of it, preferably in a frosted container!
God I love watching you two.
Thank you for such a delightful video , i was concerned about the cold in South Isand a bit becos when ya find a place in NZ with no Maoris like in South Island , you know it's cold but by the time you drove into South Island , it would be right smacked into SUMMER TIME😂😂😂
"it rained for the rest of the day".............That's why we migrated to Western Australia and not NZ. NZ was green and beautiful and the people were really nice, but coming from Barbados we could not hack the cold and wet.
dont let a cloudy day cloud your vibe lol❤
The best thing for staying warm especially when it really windy is to put some socks and closed shoes on, your making me cold just watching you walk around in sandles.
Amumm you need to visit the sculpture farm. It’s on the west coast of north island.
dont forget to go through Paeroa and see the big L&P bottle..Tia for scale
Hey, Cheveyo!
I really love what you do with Tia's hair.
Hey, we had been at the same places three month ago. Have a great experience there. Greetings from Germany Marc & Katrin 😊
I hope you visit as many marae’s as possible, they are normally welcoming especially for foreigners, so long as you are respectful! Immerse yourself.
very interesting episode. persevering through constant wind and doing it all smiles is not easy. seeing the NZ natural landscape fiills in knowledge gaps. 1st of all the #1 kite designer in the world is located farther south in ashburton. all that wind certainly explains how a guy could get into kites!
21:58 I thought I spotted Blueberry's sister here! 🤣🤣🤣
you guys are so wholesome! give some nz coffee a looksee
In our road trip of North Island in NZ, we descoved that a lot of the petrol station sell the best tasting and freshest sandwichs, with some of the best fillings. Can you please try and find some. Cheers from Australia
So much to see....make sure you do Lake Tekapo in the South and of course the glow worms in the north.😅
