Once I discovered this beauty, it became my permanent carry. First shot on the range, I nailed bullseye at 50 yards. It's eaten everything from tula to federal with zero failures.

After owning a Sig 226 for many years, the Sig 2022 is just as viable a choice for self protection - regardless of price, polymer frame and popularity - as the Sig 226, and after all is said and done, IT'S STILL A SIG, MAN!

First let me say after looking at my sights again I see the front is a #8 and the rear is a #10. The numbers I gave previously are the stock sizes that come on the 40 cal.
I purchased a Sig Sauer factory original sight kit that came with like 7 different sights of various sizes but I don't recall the place I ordered the kit from.
I know you can call Sig Sauer and order them that way but I also found another place that sells them individually.
      www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sauer-sights/
It's nice to have the kit though so you can experiment with the sizes until you come up with a combo that works best.

Don’t let the price fool you, but the sp 2022 is a really fine gun. I have the 40 sw and nothing has broke on it. It’s not sexy like the 226, but it’s really a work horse! It has fewer parts than the 226. It has some resemblance to the cz75 in reference for it’s take down. This is undeniably a reliable firearm.as far as accuracy, it’s all about the shooter’s proficiency level. Btw, I have the p226 also, and I wish the mags were inter-changeable.

The one time I tried perfecta I had random short stroking with my sp2009, I could definitely feel inconsistency with the recoil from round to round. Figured its not cheap enough to give it a second chance, and its the only 9mm to ever give me problems.

Snakesht172 I have it chambered in 40 SW the only time I had a failure to feed was with perfecta ammo. every magazine I fired, 2-3 of 10 failed to fully seat. I kept those that didn't fully seat. upon closer inspection, the casing on the bullets seemed really grimy and looked as if the casings were sanded with fine grit sand paper. I think it caused resistance on the feed ramp. never had any issues with cheap white box Winchester or tulammo. I use the slide stop to reload. if that makes any difference. never bought Perfecta again... :( going to try it in my shield in 9mm though.

Brandon Davis I've had issues with Remington hollow points. same failure to feed. just less times one to three bullets a box. they came in 250 pack. from all the FTFs I had, my feed ramp got all scratched up, I had to polish it. took the magazines apart and cleaned them up and coated them with light oil. (haven't cleaned them in over 2000 rounds) I'll give them another try.

I bought a used Sig Sauer SP2022 .40 S&W and tried it out at the store where I bought it. It fits my hand perfectly; it's a little thick but I prefer my guns that way. Always wanted a Sig but didn't want to 'sell the farm' to get one. I ran two mags through it and discovered that you have to aim a little high because it is designed for combat type targets, not dead on sight shooting. Once I figured that out I started being much more accurate. Sometimes referred to as a 'Poor Man's Sig' or the 'Forgotten Sig' but more than gets the job done; I'm very happy with it!!!

In every video about a pistol in this channel and others, people talk about Glock and insult it, it really says a lot about how good and successful a product is when people try constantly to talk badly about it when mentioning other products that are similar that they try to promote, to reassure their own choice of pistols. Glock is the standard of polymer pistols, it’s the boss

I have the TACPac version of the SP2022. Came with the light/laser, Holster, Reloader, Night Sights, etc... for $510 from Buds (they raised the price to $570 right after I bought mine).
Perfect home-defense setup at a great price.
Typical SIG high bore axis which takes some getting used to.
Only ONE Mag included. WTF SIG.
I've also had an issue with the light turning on by itself when firing at the range. I will call SIG about that.
Other than the 1 Mag thing, great value!
Oh, one other thing. I have yet to get more than 14 rounds into the "15" round Magazine. I counted and you only got 14 into each Mag as well.
GRIP: The medium grip is installed by default. There is a larger grip in the box, and a smaller grip is available from SIG.

I too hope to own a P226 someday. :) Personally, I couldn't care less about having a high bore axis, or a low bore axis. It's all about how it feels in my hand. To me, Sig's just feel significantly better and much more refined.

I have just ordered one of these in CA. I am not nearly as experienced as you, but I like the feeling of a "real" gun. I wanted to buy a Glock G3 17 (the most updated we can buy in CA). I tried one out at the range I belong to, and it was a cheap-feeling "rattle trap" in my opinion. Admittedly, it was a range- owned gun, but Glock has a reputation of being trouble free, even after going through thousands of rounds. The Glock 17 jammed at least once or twice on every one of the 5 mags (of 10 rds) I went through. Someone told me I could have been limp-wristing it, but I don't have that problem with either one of my 2 CZs. I guess a plastic gun may need to be gripped differently. I'll admit that the Glock was quite accurate when it didn't jam... I will also be picking up my new Sig P226 before I get through the upcoming 30-day waiting period for the SP2022 I just paid for. I have fired a P226 and liked it. I like the feeling of the SP2022, probably because it is heavier than a Glock 19. Looking forward to adding the 2 Sigs to my quiver, with my 2 CZs (a PCR and a 75 BD) - which I love. Each to his own. Thanks for the review.

I can’t lie , I bought my Sig SP2022 without knowing a single thing about it. That being said I’ve got Walthers , Glocks , S&W’s and various other pistols. I try to switch up my daily carry guns pretty often but for some strange reason I always find myself going back to my Sig SP2022 for my daily carry piece. It’s definitely not the greatest gun I own but there is just something about it that I love. Not to mention I can put all 16 rounds in a 1 1/2 inch circle at 7 yards consistently. Now that’s not rapid fire of course but still. I just love the damn thing. Now the negatives. Try and find any accessories for it , I dare ya. It’s not very supported by the aftermarket unfortunately. But I trust my life with the little thing. I’ve put it through every dirt , sand and mud test that every gun tuber has had videos on and full of sand , mud or whatever it’s always fired and I think I had one small failure to go fully into battery when it was full of sand but I was able to slap it home and it continued to fire and lock open on an empty mag. And no I’m not trying to get anything free from Sig for this advertisement for them. LOL

There have been a few revisions of this. The newer ones do not have that chambered round indicator and the trigger is better. One thing not mentioned was that this was designed for use with or without gloves on hince the large trigger guard. Shooting other guns with thick gloves on isnt near as comfortable as with the SP2022. Good review but I wish you'd had the newer version and one in .40 S&W. IMO it shines in the .40 version.

Hey Hickok! Thanks for this review! I've recently purchased a sig sp2022 in 9x19...for carry. Personally,I like the high bore access and the DA/SA option...I'm a fan of a hammer vs. striker fire firearm... Personal choice. Also, I'm big like you and DO use the large grip...the problem for me is that the G19 causes rail burn. Like you, I'd never knock a Glock. The are as reliable as they come and deserve their place at the top. At the time of my purchase, the vendor had the G19 & the SP2022 ... FOR ME the sig was perfect. Paid just over 500 because I purchased extra magazines. Anyway, TYVM for all you do for the shooting sports. This comment is nothing more than my experience and $.02. Keep up the awesome work. -Ben E.

I own both the Glock 19 and this SP2022. Bought them both brand new and I've run thousands of rounds through them both. I've never had a single failure from either of them. Of the two, I open carry the Sign while the Glock sits at home. It just fits better in my hand, is more comfortable to shoot, I'm slightly more consistent with it, and I just like it more overall. By far the best value for dollar in a gun I've ever had.

Less than another year later, I own another that I love (p938), and 2 that I’m looking to sell. Nothing wrong w getting something because it’s cheap. You get to have a gun instead of not having one. You learn what you like and don’t like. And they maintain value well.

  • @Sherman62
    @Sherman62 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Got one of these yesterday and so far I'm impressed. Groups well right out of the box, excellent ergonomics and nary a bobble with factory FMJ or HP reloads. I had heard SIGs are sighted in low but mine hits well above my 6 o'clock hold, maybe a bit higher than I'd like. It's almost exactly the same size as my M&P 9 although it looks bigger at first glance.
The slide release looks like something you could change truck tires with but it works much better than a lot of tinier designs. Takedown looks tricky but as Hickok demonstrates it's not bad at all.
There were some good deals on striker pistols but I was specifically looking for a hammer fired SA/DA pistol. $469 without night sights, I am pleased. My first SIG as well.
I was a bit concerned that MidwayUSA has so little in holsters and parts for this pistol but they are out there. Just have to look a little harder.

I used to carry a P229 and a Glock 22. I've been carrying this for almost six months now. It did take some getting used to. It's not like my P229. Would I rather carry a G19 gen 4? Absolutely, but there's a certain trust built with the 2022 that it's hard to let go. It's very accurate, I know the gun goes bang, and it really handles a weapon light well. I've had problems with my Glock 22.
Reliability is what I can attest to the 2022. It's definitely one of the best out there. It's not the most comfortable CCW weapon, but if I needed to defend my life. The 2022 I would go to without question.
Don't pass up the opportunity to get one of these. I know the craze now is the P320. But the P320 doesn't have the charm that the SP2022 has.

So, I walked into my local shop today, confident in choosing the G19 as my first handgun, knowing without a doubt that my "research" had yielded a winning choice. Lo and behold, I was wrong, according to everyone behind the counter, as well as multiple other patrons within earshot ( most prior Feds and PSD) and by the time i left, I had the receipt for a 2022 in hand.
IMO, after handling the Glock i feel like i'd accidentally shoot myself, I've only trained on the M9 with the Army and that G's featherweight trigger is unnerving... maybe that's just me.

Well, the Sig 2022 should serve you fine, but in the future I'd try to block out all the Gun Shop Commando advice. It's a bit like going into an auto parts store and asking what the best oil is. You'll have lots of strong opinions and maybe even various haters. Then of course, you also have the fact that the profit margin on some firearms is higher for the shop. The profit margin on Glocks is not that much; I know that for a fact, so very few shops are going to push them. You're fine, though; the Sig is a good gun, and if you are uncomfortable with a particular trigger, or are not ready for it yet, it's best to avoid it. Congratulations on your first handgun! Enjoy!

hickok45 Hey, thank you, seriously... It makes sense, I am quite happy with my Sig and probably will get a G19 for my third, after i get a .357 SW which actually started as my first choice. I'm just wondering why there was so much disapproval from the peanut gallery when it's another polymer, but a lot that drew me to the G was that I've found continuous positive reviews and really know one that could prove flaws. I just kinda figured that if the dealer's trying to get me to spend less for the Sig, unless there's some accounting trick that I'm unaware of, it seemed legit....

Infinite Forms Glocks been #1 for so long. Like everything else in the world. Everybody wants to be were they are, and they will do what they will have too to get there. Glock only sets up in two shows a year (Shot and NRA annual show). With 80%+ police carrying glocks and just recently the marines they don't need to push there products. I know for a fact that. Most manufactures requirer the store to order so many to be a authorized dealer. And they have target numbers to hit for more incentives. Glock doesn't play that game.
I like them both. I like to think the Glock as a workhorse and the sig workhorse/show horse.

Now they will keep it for how ever long the want to. My friend lost his colt for 6 years, when he got it back it was all scratched up and looked like they used the hell out of it. I would rather loose one of these plastic wonders then one of my good ones.

Own both a P226 and an SP2022, to go along with a variety of other handguns, and I like the SP2022 alot. It's a shooter and goes to the range often, the P226 comes out occasionally along with the 92F, but they are older and I want to keep the round counts low.
As to Glock vs. Sig vs. Beretta: It's all about how a gun feels in my hand. The Glocks are fine guns, but never liked how they felt. It's a personal thing. Like they say, "The best gun for you is the one you shoot best."

I was comparing these exact same two handguns. I liked the sig due to the extended buttons as well as the mags being spring assisted to pop out. The high bore doesn't pinch my hands too.

You do indeed have the small grip. There are two grips. The SP 2009 is the same gun as the 2022. the 2009 has no rail for a light. There was also the option of a short or long trigger,

With respect to the Sig 226, I’ve owned a 2022 for years and it's lighter, more comfortable, and the de-cocker is smoother. The bore axis is a non-issue. I consider the “heavy” double action trigger a safety feature when carrying one in the pipe. The single action trigger is smooth and consistent. The 2022 is a far better gun than many others in its’ price segment. Mine has a stainless slide and looks expensive, always gets attention at the range.

I also have the stainless slide, and it came with a factory laser, for 419 out the door back in 2014. Not one FTE, FTL, stove pipe, thousands of rounds of every brand of 9 mm.

About the time I bought one of these my buddy bought a glock19, we tookem out and shot both. I was more accurate with the glock! I blame bore axis for that. But the sig looks a lot cooler..lol

Sp2022 doesn’t even come close to the quality and performance of the 226.
One is a reliable work horse and a actual work of art.
The other is just a really good DA/SA polymer framed gun.
      Both sigs. Both quality.
One is just on a whole different level.

  • @capn233

Hard to tell, but this one might have had the "Short Reach Trigger," which became a lot more common on SP2022's made over the last several years. Mine came with that one, but I replaced it with the "Standard" trigger, which moves it forward. It is all in the shape of the actual trigger, as the Short Reach for the SP line is not the "Short Reset" trigger from the classic line.
Mine has around 5000 rounds of 9mm through it and has been flawless. This model is pretty popular on the sig forums.

One thing about the 2022, the undercut on the sig trigger gaurd doesnt give you knucle rash on your bird( flipping people off) finger like the Glock does..I love my glock 17 gen 5, a little better trigger than my 2022, but c'mon guys, how many of us that watch these reviews are ever gonna be in a gun fight, or have a break in where we have to actually fire on someone, most of us, even trained and ready, unless your a dirty Harry type, are not gonna freeze and at that point, Grip, trigger pull, ergonomics doesnt matter..

*Syndrome Terminology* - "High Bore Axis"
*Syndrome Diagnosis* - A pistol with a side assembly that rests slightly higher over the web of the hand than some differing pistol designs.
*Syndrome Explanation* - Most meaningless, overrated, overhyped design characteristic on handheld firearms. Literally a non-factor, akin to complaining about the width of the trigger.
*Syndrome Treatment* - Completely ignore the syndrome, as it is a totally meaningless characteristic. During the firing of a pistol, especially under the stress of competition or a self-defense scenario, the combination of a correct firing grip, trigger discipline and follow through will negative this imagined 'negative', as the recoil of a pistol cycling combined with proper weapon control will make any bore axis height irrelevant and a moot point.
*Alternate Syndrome Descriptors* = "I hate Sigs, let's bash them!", "I love Glocks more than my own wife!", "This gun is different from my preferred brand that I've conflated my self-image with, so I have to try to ruin its reputation!", "I don't know what I'm talking about, I just read about it in Recoil magazine so I'm repeating it to sound smart", and "Larry Vickers is my god".

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yep, it's meaningless for those who cannot discern any difference in muzzle rise and such. Inexperienced shooters who cannot see any difference should ignore all the talk about it.
From a practical standpoint, even if somebody CAN feel and see the difference in muzzle rise, sight reacquisition, etc., such as me, it's still not going to make all that much difference.

@@hickok45 A well spoken summary of my admittedly wryly sarcastic (but in no way intentionally mean-spirited) take on the issue. I've heard so many online self-appointed "experts" blather about this ad nauseum for years, I suppose just hearing it again set off my comment.... not aimed at you, but rather just at the topic itself.
After 40+ years of shooting (I myself am *no* subject matter expert), I've at least learned that the vast majority of shooting advice one sees online comes from folks who are simply regurgitating what they've heard from their favorite neck-bearded, tribal tattooed online guru or they've simply purchased their way into a pile of weapons and gear to give the illusion of experience. A few, if they have any brains at all, simply repeat what they read from Mas Ayoob. At least those I can live with.
'Misinformation' is a recent popular catchphrase that's usually a stand-in word for "group think myths", "outright lies", or "things I hate that people say but I can't shut them up so I'll just discredit them".... all depends on the point of view. As far as the firearms world, there is far more of the former than the two latter, IMHO. So much garbage gets repeated it's headache inducing. I fear 'gun folk' have become such fanatical consumers of the 'Next Big Shiny Thing!' that we fall for every new dunsel that comes down the pike, whether is has a shred of merit or not.
A few examples come to mind, such as the ridiculous FBI ballistic protocols, along with flat triggers and reflex sights. Are these really necessary? Do they REALLY change things that much? Are they ACTUALLY game changers? No. Not at all. A superbly trained combat marksman with a three inch m19 would simply grease the vast majority of modern tactical wannabes in a few seconds. But we buy the nonsense we're told, swallow it whole and accept as gospel. I've been seeing claptrap like "high bore axis" since the mid-80's from bad gun writers (remember Bradly Steiner's big "Point Shooting To Live!" crap?), but these days it's metastasized to a whole new level online.
As Charles Spurgeon famously quipped, "A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on." Nevertheless, sorry for rant. Excessive, gross overwriting is a genetic liability that comes my Irish DNA; Imy annoyance finally overpressured a bit and boiled over. Apologies.
Hope you have a blessed Sunday.

This was the first gun I used in a competition stage. It could shoot better than the human behind it. It still served me well. Of all things the white front sight against steel targets painted white in 104 F heat made it hard sometimes to see the front sight well. Of course old eyes are an issue too!

This is the first pistol I purchased after leaving the Army. It is an EXCELLENT DA/SA pistol, and holds true to SIG accuracy and reliability! The only negative I can think of is the price of the magazines. I carried an M-11 (P228) for a little while and the SP 2022 is every bit on par with it. The polymer frame actually makes this pistol much more pleasant to carry than the M-11. This is my EDC, and on a quality leather gun belt you barely notice it. We also have, in our house, a Glock 19 and a CZ 75 SP-01. I prefer carrying the SIG over both of them! That said if the CZ wasn't 3lbs it would be my EDC as it is hands down the best pistol I have ever handled! If you are on the fence about buying the 2022, jump off and buy it already, because those of us that own it are not joking when we say this is a $440 P-226!
