Sig Sauer SP2022 Overview and a Tale of Two Pistols

  • This week we're reviewing the full size Sig Sauer SP2022 pistol. It uses the same DA/SA trigger as the classic Sig Sauer pistols but based on a polymer frame to reduce weight, this pistol was Sig Sauer's first polymer grip pistol. This pistol is seemingly the forgotten pistol compared to the Classic Line and P320 lineup but it is still a solid option for the price. Originally developed as a .40 S&W caliber pistol it later adopted the 9mm offering due to popularity of that caliber.

      The polymer frame is Stronger than any polymer frame out there..take the mag out, then Squeeze the frame where the mag enters, doesnt give, do that with a glock or other high dollar polymer frames, and they bend in ..

    People who say the .40 is dying due to better ammo available for the 9mm are kinda wrong.
    You are assuming that only 9mm has advanced into better ammo available. But who said that the .40 S&W has not also advanced?
    I happen to like the .40 I own a Sig SP2022 as well and it is in .40 . I also own a HK P30l LEM in .40.
    I also have 9mm's and even a .357 Sig.
    Nothing in life says you have to own 1 caliber. I also have a Glock G20 10mm. It is actually the only Glock worth having in my opinion.

    • @Northwoods.Nobodies
      @Northwoods.Nobodies  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the ammo market of 2020-2021 was pretty telling. Most places I checked for pistol ammo only had .40 or 10mm on the shelves and had plenty of it. That being said 10mm, aka spicy .40, is becoming more common use than .40 as well in my opinion. I haven't seen anything talking about .40 making advancements in ballistics.
      No where does it say you are stuck with only one caliber lol. I have pistols chambered in 22lr, .380, 9mm, .40, and 45acp. I like all the guns.

    This a great handgun. It was my first 9mm when I got it a couple years ago. I was carrying my full sized 1911 (Kimber Custom) for many years and that 1911 was my first firearm more than 20 years ago. All those years I was exclusively a .45 ACP shooter but then the "mostly peaceful" riots and the "virus of unspecified Asian origin" happened and ammo prices went crazy. For the cost of two rds of .45 ACP, I can shoot 3 rds of 9mm (or roughly thereabouts) so I got it to have something more affordable to shoot and something that was simply lighter and easier to carry than my trusty old 1911.
    Great review. Thanks.

      Eventually ammo prices have to drop you'd think. Places like Cabela's and Scheels have fully stocked shelves because the prices are too high. @@Northwoods.Nobodies To be even more budget friendly with my ammo, I just added a Ruger Mk4 to my collection today. I traded my Ruger Wrangler revolver which I struggled a bit with at shooting. The burnt bronze color and blade sight was hard to focus on as it turned out. Maybe the black one would've been better but I decided to upgrade so Mk4 it was. Thankfully, the sight profile on the Mk4 is about identical to my 1911 so hopefully the transition will be seamless. It's very accurate too (it's the 22/45 type with the bull barrel). The only reason I stopped at 500 rds is because I ran out of ammo. Needless to say, I'm quite pleased with its performance.

    Not a good beginer gun due to the DA/SA trigger, steeper learning curve and tendency to miss with the first shot. Constant action striker fired pistols are popular due the ease and speed of training to basic competency. Otherwise it is a great gun, I own one myself in my collection of Sigs. Also, the 2022 designation is due to the purchase by the French Police as a service pistol, the requirement that it must be serviceable and supported by Sig until the year 2022.

    • @Northwoods.Nobodies
      @Northwoods.Nobodies  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It all depends on training really. DA/SA can help build confidence with new shooters or new CCW carriers. You don't have to run first round DA every time, plus the SA trigger is very light(4ish lbs) and consistent. It's not my first choice in CCW but it would work fine. What's your favorite Sig in your collection?

  • @phantomf4747
    @phantomf4747 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    9mm you get less probability of a thru and thru. The object is to dispense energy in the target, not what's is behind it, or God forbid 2 walls over. 40 is a joke. I had 1 40 and sold it within 4 months. 40, regardless of what those who were silly enough to fall for the hype are finding out the hard way. I shoot 9mm for $20 a box. 40 is no less than twice that on a good day. If I want to throw fire hydrants at someone, I'll get one of my 45's. I have a SP2022 in 9mm. It's my off body back up to my P226. It shoots very reliably. 4,000 rounds thru it with 2 malfunctions. (Both probably my fault and not the weapons) If you want a financially gentle pistol for that will go bang every trigger pull, but one. You will not regret it.

    • @Northwoods.Nobodies
      @Northwoods.Nobodies  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It all depends on bullet selection but 9mm can certainly pass through plenty of things. Not complete gospel but Garand Thumb did a pretty solid video showing penetration power through walls with different calibers a couple months ago that's worth checking out. If you are finding 40 for that expensive it's time to shop somewhere else haha.
      What model of the P226 do you have? The SP2022 is a gem for sure!

      @@Northwoods.Nobodies I got my P226 in 1987. I worked in a gun store back then. My first Sig was a P220. I grew up on 1911's so the 200 seemed logical at the time. I carry Hornady critical defense as my carry ammo. I got a few boxes of critical duty and for home use was too hot with the walls being thin. Maybe I need a log cabin at Lake Tahoe with wood walls? 🤣 Here in The People's Republik of Kalifornistan, everything is expensive thanks to governor Screwsome and his merry band of thieves.

    Buy a 9mm barrel for it. It's a drop in and get 9mm mags. You'll then have a 9mm SP2022. Condolences for your dad.

      I appreciate the condolences. No real need for the barrel swap now that I've got my Dad's 9mm. I still have a decent amount of 40 cal ammo stocked up as well.

    The 40 will always be better than a 9mm . That is why you hear on the news the police didn't have to shoot him that many times maybe because they are using 9mm instead of 40. And if you look at the ballistic on 10mm and 40 it's not much different unless it some very hot rounds

    • @Northwoods.Nobodies
      @Northwoods.Nobodies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not looking to get into an internet argument...40 cal is somewhat more powerful than 9mm but the modern performance, higher capacity in magazines, and lower recoil of 9mm beats it nowadays. Most federal agencies and police departments have moved back to using 9mm for those reasons.
      There's a whole host of things that goes into the effectiveness of police shooting someone, shot placement, drugs, adrenaline, etc. The human body can take a lot of damage before shutting down.
      10mm is faster and hits harder than 40 from everything I've read. It certainly feels more powerful to shoot than a 40.
