    The 9mm SP2022 is reputed to be one of the most accurate production 9mm's available from any manufacturer, whether polymer or metal.

    Worthy of the title, 'SigPro'

    I carry a Sig sp2022 in 40S&W on duty, we carry concealed. Before the SP2022 I carried a Sig P220R of course a HUGE difference in weight and better ego's. For its intended use, it doesn't give up anything to its alloy framed brethren.

    I bought my LIKE NEW SP2022 pistol pack last fall with (2) mags, Sig Lite night sights, and OEM holster for $400. It is my 'truck gun', and is intended to supplement my AR and my GHB. I found (3) factory 15rd mags and (1) MecGar 17rd mag at my LGS for $20/each. I bought an SM grip module from SIG for $20 and a SIG short reach trigger from CDNN for $22. I prefer my SP2022 over my SIG P320X.

      Not likely as thanks to the French, it may well be the largest government contract pistol since WW2. The civilian market just came out at the end of 2019 with the grey ghost finish. I'm pretty sure Sig will keep this in production for some time as it is a budget entry option into the Sig line up. Like a "gateway drug" Sig!

      I doubt they will ever discontinue it. I just got one brand new, and they’re still selling like hot cakes. Got the 9mm with night sights for $450 out the door...in California!

    • @jamesmikhael1230
      @jamesmikhael1230 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The French Police contact expires in 2022. Thats the whole reason why they renamed it from the SP2009 to the SP2022.
      If there's demand for it then Sig will keep it on their product line for awhile, but when they start seeing sales drop then it may get the axe like the P227 did.

    I think you’re add on you model number time line. IIRC, The original 2009/2340 came out first, the 2009 in 9mm and the 2340 in 40/357. They didn’t have a 1913 rail, they had some odd ball cut that required an adapter. Then the 2022 was released with the 1913 rail and I believe they used the same model number for all the calibers at that point.

    Great rundown.
    The 2022/9mm was my first pistol, acquired through an avid collector and former military LEO.
    As someone ‘late to the party’ I feel extremely lucky and grateful to own this firearm. So many newbies now don’t have the luxury of multiple range days per week, let alone per month. Confidence in a firearm matters so much more than before.
    Is it a sophisticated target pistol? No. But it’s super-ergonomic, goes bang every time, supports enough accessories that matter, and will outlive my grandkids. For home defense (and dry fire practice) in this era, I don’t see how you can do much better.

    Love the deep-dive History lesson Small Arms Solutions! Very insightful. Thanks for your hard work & review. Purchased my SP2022 three months ago. Very accurate right out of the box. ($602 out the door) I did want the .40 but, that's just not available brand new in my area so, got the 9mm. Came with 2 magazines, Sig night sights & the small size hand grip plate. I immediately ordered the medium size which made it perfect for my hands. Got tired of that stock excessive SA trigger pre travel so, had the "Galloway, HANNIBAL" adjustable trigger installed. Now I can't get enough of this gun!

    I have an original German Sig P229 40 S&W like the one you have in your video. It just doesn't fit my small hands so I have gone through many other pistols trying to fit me. Although I have found other pistols that fit my hand better and, some more expensive (like the H&K P30, CZ75 P01, Glock22, Browning High Power, Colt gold cup and others) when I go back to the Sig P229 (that doesn't fit my hand) I always get much better groups. It just amazes me how it always shoots where I aim. Maybe I just have a good one.

    Another great review of a very underrated SIG pistol. Another SIG you may want to review if you can get your hands on one is the SIG P239. They are discontinued now, but they are amazingly accurate in a nice compact single stack package. A personal favorite of mine.

    • @zarkovecerkovic4825
      @zarkovecerkovic4825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Halter yes it really does fill that niche nicely. You can find them in the standard DA/SA configuration or they are also available in the DAK which some prefer. Even though it is currently discontinued it will take the same magazines from the P225 A1 that basically replaced it in SIGs line up.

    The SIG Pro was designed in the US? Or just the slightly redesigned SP2022? My early SP2009 was made at SIG Neuhausen (And because of that, it's not if marked SIG Sauer, just SIG), I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't designed there.

  • @danielwatters1203
    @danielwatters1203 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    FWIW: The original SP2009 and SP2340 had proprietary accessory rails. The M1913 rails didn't appear until the SP2022.
    Can we really prove that it was designed solely in the US? The German patents first filed in 1997 (DE19711730, DE19732656, and DE19755679) would seem to point to the European parent company. The designers listed in the patents were Theobald Förster (Swiss), Rudolf Fuchs (German), Joachim Schmidt (German), Sebastian Rost (Swiss), and Marcel Rutz (Swiss.) The US patent applications followed a year later.
    They certainly were not always completely manufactured in the US as that is part of the reason the German government has been pursuing legal actions against the German firm in recent years. Many of the SP2022 sold to Colombia were first exported to the US, and then shipped to the Colombians via a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) contract administered by the US Army (W52H09-09-D-0158.)
    The Iraqi contract wasn't particularly prestigious. If you look at the original solicitation from December 2004 (W52H09-05-R-0067), the US Army wanted quick delivery of 10,000 9x19mm double-action pistols with a pair of 15rd magazines each. The US Army was willing to buy them all from one contractor if possible but would be willing to divide the order among as many sources as necessary to get the required 10,000. Companies could offer bids for as few as 100 pistols. Before the end of the month, the US Army awarded two contracts: one for 5,000 SIG-Sauer SP2022 (W52H09-05-C-0059) and another for 5,000 Ruger P95 (W52H09-05-C-0058.) It turns out that the rush order was meant to arm Iraqi security forces ahead of the country’s first post-Saddam parliamentary elections in January 2005. Confirmation can be found in the government report “Iraqi Security Forces: Weapons Provided by the U.S. Department of Defense Using the Iraq Relief and Reconstruction Fund."

      My SP2009 that I bought in 2004 is marked on the frame "made in switzerland", with the slide marked usa. the pistol was branded Sig Arms. It's my understanding that 1 of the 3 generations of the SP2022's were either made or partially made in germany, with the others made here. Also you kinda jumbled up the models and there release order. the 2340 came out first in 1998 in both 40 and 357 sig, a year later the 2009 came out in 9mm. the mid 2000's both were replaced by the 2022 available in all 3 calibers.

    Too expensive for the police market?? My department surely is the cheapest bunch of bastards in the U.S. They jumped on the 226 when it came out. They're still issuing them and they refuse to consider gluuck or the 320. I got 25 years out of my 226 and then it was issued to someone else after me. More expensive...wrong. Gluuck notifies departments that their soap bars only have a 5 year service life before Gluuck advises replacement. Now that is expensive.

      Henry, I've have 15 years' service out of a Glock 22. No failures and it is a .40. Our agency has DOZENS of them on the street. No failures, and I would know, I'm the armorer. I have a Gen 2 G17 that I bought 26 years ago and I've only replaced the recoil spring; not because I had to, but because I chose to. After 30 years in the field, the Glock is a proven system. Sig also has very particular parts and weapons systems replacement recommendations, just so you know. I also have a P226 sitting beside me right now. Both brands are exceptional. Can't we just be unbiased, rational, and move on?
