@MegaTroubleII Good luck. It's a difficult game, but once you have an effective build and immerse yourself in the quests and world, it's a brilliant experience. Not many like it
OG fallout 1/2 gamer here. Got them in ‘97-98. Nowadays, I recommend using Fallout 1in2 mod to play FO1. It’s a Mod that uses Fallout 2’s Engine and quality of life fixes (i.e. you can push your party members out of doors so you don’t get stuck). Plus a “Take All” button. It also gives the option of cut content. Definitely worth revisiting 25 years later!
I've been looking everywhere for some help with this. I tried installing the Fallout 1in2 mod, but my framerate with it is absolutely horrendous. Would you know anything about this? (playing through Xbox Game Pass)
Im disapointed you havent said the MOST important part for new players, in barter window when you trade with other people, to not spend ages trying to buy something worth more then 100 but less then 999, you can just, use your keyboard number buttons to just type in the correct value like 420. I was so MAD when I learned it because first time playing I didnt know it so I had to constantly waste time just pressing and waiting for that number count to slowly reach 420.
It’s worth noting that the GOG/Steam versions of this are allegedly censored. Children were rendered invisible, addiction and drug-resistant images were removed, and all references to drug/s were substituted with the word chems. Fallout Fixt can restore it all. It’s not game-changing or anything but you might as well play it the way it was released.
You can easy change that using Fallout 1 in 2 or using mods. Yea this is not vanilla version so if you want play original probably you have to looking CD version.

Thank you. I bought this game and Fallout 2 because it was on sale. I started with fallout 3, and played new vegas, and 4. I skipped 76 thankfully. But I have put about 8 hours into this game and was still struggling with the beginning and kept being stubborn about my play style. The beginning stats makes so much sense. I pretty much nuked my character before starting without even realizing. I should've realized that different stats matter since you can’t just make up for lack of aim because this isn't a FPS. Halfway through the video and just wanted to mention this and help boost the algorithm. Thanks again homie.
If you struggle with fallout graphics, you have massive problems. This for 1997 is beautiful, even watching it now I can’t believe how well it’s held up.
Graphics aren’t really problem because of the isometric view. If this game was in FPS or third-person I might understand it, but the graphics here don’t really affect the game at all.
The 1st games in the Diablo and Baldur’s Gate series came out around the same time and eclipse Fallout in graphics. But Fallout mogged them in story paths and player choice consequences.
Some 12 years ago this was considered abandonware and was free for download everywhere. However, I'd recommend having a guide handy since these games can be pretty unforgiving if you make mistakes on your playthrough. To be fair, this is just how games were back in the 90's.
Still the best fallout, always will be imo, Bethesda just could never nail the "hopeless nuclear devastation" feel that the original 2 had but 1 just cant be outdone, for anyone new to playing it speech, science and lockpick are your friends.
I am the 13th like. Does that make me the Vault Dweller? Also, my guy... the aimed shot thing is not "basically VATS", _it literally _*_is_*_ VATS._ This was the game that introduced it. "Never pick gambling" says someone who never banked 150k caps at level 1 in the first casino with meager 80% gambling (and a ten minutes of smashing 4 & 1)
Just going through my first play through as a early gen z and honestly the game is so good I was neglecting a 10 page research paper of which I have no experience on research papers due the following day, it's that good of a game, especially with how i managed to quickly figure out the laughably coded ai enemy tracking by just having the raiders in the raider base aggro to me while letting ian getting potshots at those fools as im around a cornee and those fools basically loading me up with deagles and leather armor really early and then eventually metal armor, oh man it was so good im now fucking rich and laughing at some youtuber loser who made a fallout 1 experience video who just used the gambling system and a key logger method to auto farm caps lmaooo im tweaking rn in the middle of my research paper, anyways this game is godly.
Charisma does NOT suck, especially in F2. You wanna crits - go for luck. Small guns - only for first playthrough. Big guns - fun. Energy weapons - cool. Unarmed/mele - pro. And since when is isometric “weird”? Haven’t seen Diablo or Dota going FPS…

2:03 Eh idk Unarmed is good if you get power fist or heck even other unarmed weapons. Throwing is definitely bad even if you have experience, first aid and doc is actually alr skills if you dont care about super mutant timer althought they're definitely not tag worthy(Im referring to the fact that if you play the game for too long after finishing water chip objective, slowly some towns are gonna get overrun by super mutants, I dont think any town except necropolis actually showcases it gameplay vise but in ending cutscenes you gonna get more bad endinds, the ones that work atleast F1 has tons of bugged endings that only mod fixes xd), steal is bad its one of only skills Im glad got merged into existing skill aka sneak, traps is bad especially if u dont mind save scumming, barter is trash, outdoorsman is worst one since apperently it only improves random encounters and only very few ones about water and gambling is not tag worthy but has a niche for brainless money making As for essential skills I agree although F1 surprisingly doesnt have that much lockpicking so you wouldnt miss thaaaat much but at the same time there arent many skills to tag anyway so might as well xD
Fun to see a semi-walkthrough review. Played fallout so many times. Still return to it once a year or so (sometimes longer). Only disagreement is the small guns. I go repair I think. Shoot guess it’s time to play again. Just started another NV run through but already a bit bored. Fallout it is. Cheers and thx for the upload!
About to start playing this and I'm a 24 year old which means that I wasn't born yet when this game came out. I don't have experience with RPG games from this era so wish me luck, I guess 😅
Unarmed is useless? It is the most op combat category. You can go mad with the low ap costs and punch everything to death. Just aim for weakpoints and buy knuckles and later on the power fist.
One of the best rpg ever. I rather play this game than Fallout 76. Who need graphics when you have incredible story and game type! We need remake ASAP!!!! And for GOD sake can you make it play on tablet!?!?!?!? It’s like 500mb all game !
i got fallout 1 and 2 a month or 2 ago, and i absolutely love them, way better than bethesdas games, i grew up on fallout 4, but it does have its flawsa
I could never understand complaints about classic Fallout (and Resident Evil) games' graphics or gameplay. Don't they still look and play... awesome? I mean, most 3D games actually do age very poorly (unless the art-style accommodates for it, e.g. XIII, Portal, Team Fortress 2). In my opinion Fallout 3/NV already looked just terrible a couple years after the initial release: low polygon count, low texture resolutions, bad-looking LOD crutches in place of actual optimisation, dated and blurry visual effects, etc. with no visible stylization to cover those flaws. Now, games like Fallout 1/2/Tactics with crisp sprites and pre-rendered environments and animations are almost timepless, nowadays percieved like a fine pixel-art. This type of graphics looks and feels just the same as 25 years ago: every pixel has the same color and position, every animation has the same sequence of frames, you just integer-scale the whole thing to whatever modern resolution you use and effectively percieve the very same image to get the same great experience as you would back then. Without smoothing the blocky picture. We used to call it photo-realistic, now we call it pixel-art, but the core idea is still there: to let our brain interpret those pixels and fill the blanks with our own imagination for extra details. Unlike those poorly-aged 3D games that clearly show us an easily-percieved lack of said details when being run in modern resolutions. And, dare I say, classic Fallout games are just more pleasant and fun to play than any kind of FPS/TPS games: you hold a cup of tea in one hand and click your mouse with the other, exactly as intended, with a rare click or two on a keyboard to use some skill or save the game if you feel like it. It's hard not to enjoy the process of inspecting the areas and turning enemies into a bloody/crispy mess in this glorious trimetric view (which is just perfect for calculated strategical planning) with all those beautifully gruesome death animations (pixel-perfectly detailed and pretty diverse). Yes, I'm saying that pre-rendered animations look and feel a lot better then those generic ones applied to all 3D-models. What trimetric Fallout games may seem to lack in first-person immersion compared to the new ones, they gain in joy of tactical turn-based combat and the feeling of mystery when you explore well-hidden corners of the map. So... don't be scared of the "dated" graphics or "archaic" gameplay. Good old Fallout has aged quite well except minor quality-of-life stuff that can be... FIXT.
I started playing yesterday for the first time and I am already doing Necropolis killed,my first deathclaw and gotten better equipment, it's not that brutal even though I died a lot from the Decker fight, once you reach junktown and the hub the game just becomes manageable cause of gambling its so easy making money.
Just go over to GOG and buy Fallout there, it has almost everything you need to run it on modern PC. Heck, even the 3rd is better patched than Steam version, and, unlike the Steam version, _it supports cloud saves._ BTW Fallout 1 et tu is a really great mod, and if you want the pure F1 experience, I think you only need to change two parameters in its settings file that introduce F2 weapons and critters into the game.
I want to die with Fallout 1, I'm not used to role-playing games so these types of mechanics are a bit complicated for me, at least videos like these help me a lot, thank you very much
Charisma is EVEN MORE shit than in other non-bethesda games (Bethesda makes CHA more important than INT, very on brand Todd). I think gambling is the only skill that is completely useless- who even gambles at Gizmo's? Outside of establishing your base speech/barter, it has no bearing other than follower limit. Set it to 1 and tag speech and you won't really notice a difference. That way you can easily have enough SPECIAL to minmax with high/max INT and have enough AP with high/max AGL
@@johanneskrantz2827 I'll add this and working vending machines to my list of "things I didn't learn about fallout until 16 years later" To be fair I think you need

However, I'd recommend having a guide handy since these games can be pretty unforgiving if you make mistakes on your playthrough. To be fair, this is just how games were back in the 90's.
Still the best fallout, always will be imo, Bethesda just could never nail the "hopeless nuclear devastation" feel that the original 2 had but 1 just cant be outdone, for anyone new to playing it speech, science and lockpick are your friends.
you know what i wish - the Ask About would be expanded to like insane levels
I started on fallout 4 and worked my way down. Fallout 1 is so far my favorite
Please make a vid for 2 as well! Picked this one up based on digging this video and I’m enjoying my playthrough so far.
I remember seeing this for sale in the computer game section of barnes and noble and wondering what it was about.
I am the 13th like. Does that make me the Vault Dweller?
Also, my guy... the aimed shot thing is not "basically VATS", _it literally _*_is_*_ VATS._ This was the game that introduced it. I played this game back when it came out... it was madness. I played for over a year straight. Of course I was like, 17 and didn't have anything else to do.
Damn I really wish I knew about this game back then. I was playing x-com on ps1 and would have LOVED this!
Nice video! Really hope this convinces more people to play the classic fallout games!
Definitely worth playing with a build you found online that makes combat easier. Don’t be a hero, go for crits!
Steal skill is super important in F1 and F2! You can steal so many cool items and you can sell them later and buy better guns and armor!
"Never pick gambling" says someone who never banked 150k caps at level 1 in the first casino with meager 80% gambling (and a ten minutes of smashing 4 & 1)
5$ for 1, 2, and Tactics right now. Snagged it. Thanks for the info.
Combat was kicking my ass last night but I'll try some of these!
I mean... there are loads of Modern "Retro" games that look on par with this. Graphics shouldn't be an issue.
By all means, share your thoughts on Fallout 2! More people need to play these games.
Tim Cain, the lead designer has a YT channel, he's really accessible on there.
Thank you for the speed up.
Wow nice video! I have a Macbook though. Is there a way to play the mod in the link from your description in MacOs?
Is that the music from "Baba is You" in the background?
Yes, says so in the description,
which is really cool since a lot of people
don't seem to be willing to credit the music anymore
What about a flashlight?
I recently started as I always had it on steam but never played it! I have to admit I was shocked how addictive it was and good. I picked the pre-made character and agility was 6 so I was lucky shady sands I picked up Ian I reccommmene early game
2:03 Eh idk Unarmed is good if you get power fist or heck even other unarmed weapons. Throwing is definitely bad even if you have experience, first aid and doc is actually alr skills if you dont care about super mutant timer althought they're definitely not tag worthy(Im referring to the fact that if you play the game for too long after finishing water chip objective, slowly some towns are gonna get overrun by super mutants, I dont think any town except necropolis actually showcases it gameplay vise but in ending cutscenes you gonna get more bad endinds, the ones that work atleast F1 has tons of bugged endings that only mod fixes xd), steal is bad its one of only skills Im glad got merged into existing skill aka sneak, traps is bad especially if u dont mind save scumming, barter is trash, outdoorsman is worst one since apperently it only improves random encounters and only very few ones about water and gambling is not tag worthy but has a niche for brainless money making
As for essential skills I agree although F1 surprisingly doesnt have that much lockpicking so you wouldnt miss thaaaat much but at the same time there arent many skills to tag anyway so might as well xD
Why did bro insult gambling, I went to the casino and held down 4 and 1 for 20 minutes and i didnt have to worry about caps for the rest of the game
If they ever port the first 2 Fallout games to consoles I will.
Yes, please. Could you do another on Fallout 2?
...by this weekend, the whole Fallout franchise bundle is 71% off!!!
About to start playing this and I'm a 24 year old which means that I wasn't born yet when this game came out. I don't have experience with RPG games from this era so wish me luck, I guess 😅
I love it with mods like sfall + buttons as fallout 2
Lemmie guess, got it for free on the EGS?
i love this game so much
very good vid
if i got the time going to replay this on my phone
First you install Fallout 1 and then Fallout Fixt over it, then you create your character, just saying...
Period AND full stop? Damn, you're serious.
nice video bro
10 luck is the best decision I've made in my fallout 1 playthrough
Go to the crater. Save scum, and get the radiation mutation that increases your special stats.
Or. Wasit that there was somethimg at the bottom of the carter? Cant remember that far back.
@@rthj6446 i think there was a 'mechanic' that if you're radiated you get some stats boost, but maybe it was a bug, that was fixed later
FIXT.
I started playing yesterday for the first time and I am already doing Necropolis killed,my first deathclaw and gotten better equipment,
it's not that brutal even though I died a lot from the Decker fight, once you reach junktown and the hub the game just becomes manageable cause of gambling its so easy making money.
Just go over to GOG and buy Fallout there, it has almost everything you need to run it on modern PC. Heck, even the 3rd is better patched than Steam version, and, unlike the Steam version, _it supports cloud saves._
BTW Fallout 1 et tu is a really great mod, and if you want the pure F1 experience, I think you only need to change two parameters in its settings file that introduce F2 weapons and critters into the game.
If you have gamble over 50 you can just press 1 and 4 for 20 min for 100k + worth of caps…
@@johanneskrantz2827 I'll add this and working vending machines to my list of "things I didn't learn about fallout until 16 years later"
To be fair I think you need
