    Adam my dude I want to thank you for fixing my game, I was in a rut for the last 4 years with my game hitting weak fades and expending to much energy hitting crappy shots. I came across your videos and noticed your back swing, your chest is facing opposite of the target at the finish of your backswing. So I went to the course last weekend with the thought of your backswing in my mind , dude I'm absolutely striping the ball now man it's what I've been looking for for years. Shot a 5 over par dropped 7 strokes and consitant ball striking! Thanx Adam your a genius!

    I typically only play 9 holes when I get out. Last week I shot a 41 at my local course, that beat my previous best by 5 strokes. I used course management that I have learned from Adam and would always set myself up for a nice 2-putt. Just on that day I made most of the 2-putts in one try!

I was only playing 1 or 2 really poor 9 hole rounds a year for a while, but I've played over 10 rounds this year and have really found my swing and my love for golf again (I'm still a high 20s handicap so not where I want to be yet, but I'm improving with every round and having more fun golfing than I ever have. I played a 6 hole par 3 course (4 times around so 24 holes) and shot well over par (some good shots and some bad shots averaging bogey on most holes but I got a couple pars and 1 pitch in birdie. Keep the videos coming! I love the short length and the format!

    Great to see you out on the "home" course, Adam. (the wasps were bad this summer, sorry)
    Talking Rock gives little quarter for a track that appears as open as it does, and really forces you to come to terms with your approach game from mid range (150-190). A "humble" mindset for course management will always benefit here.
    The par 3s here I find to be the real defense of Talking Rock - and specifically the green complexes with their many contours and an onslaught of steeply faced bunkers. I've probably played 100 rounds here now, and can count on one hand how many times I've played them even or better.
    80 is rarely bad here (77 is my best here, so I run away giggling anywhere within 5 strokes of that) - Maybe not what you were looking for, but this place catches a lot of people by surprise.

    Hey Adam, I've watched all your videos, and I've got an observation you may be interested in. I'm no pro, and this is not meant to be swing advice, it's just something I have picked up on throughout your videos. Anyway, here goes...
    Rounds like this one here, your left wrist generally hinges towards your thumb. You did not suffer from the dreaded snap hook this round. The rounds where you DO run into some ducks on the course, and you find yourself OB left more often than you'd like, you seem to bow your left wrist more during your backswing.
    Again, I'm no pro, and I'm not trying to offer swing advice to someone who's a much better golfer than I am. That said, in the rounds you have shared with us, you frequently get a case of duck hooks when the left wrist bows towards your fingertips during your backswing. In the rounds where your wrist hinges towards your thumb, you top the ball a little more often, but you don't go hard left as often, and you seem to get a little more distance off the tee with a little more control.
    Dustin Johnson bows his left wrist on the backswing, and he seems to be pretty good, so again, this isn't a swing tip. Just an observation of your videos that I hope helps you in some way.

    Love the video but just one thing. what you call a bad shot is not what 40 hcp calls a bad shot. some of the shots you said were bad I would take any day of the week being just beginner. our bad shots are shanks into woods, lost ball then chunk iron not even hitting the ball, then 15 meters chunk on second attempt and doing 9 on par 4 :D

    @lindsaynewell6319 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You said something so important at 3:04 (hole #4) "I expect a bogey on stroke hole 1". I've tried to focus a lot more this year on teeing off each hole with the handicap par in mind, not the scorecard par. It seems to help me avoid attempting hero shots if I miss a fairway or being disappointed if I have to lay up on 400+ yard par 4s where 'par' for me is actually 5 most of the time. The mindset of trying to play to my handicap instead of some arbitrary number like 'break 80' or 'scorecard par' reduces the negative impact of hitting a bad shot for me. PIC has done some great videos on this (e.g. the idea of 'net zero').
    I'll count my 'bad shots' when I play tomorrow. I'm guessing at least 10 but as you say, it's subjective and you seem very harsh on yourself. e.g. 'bad shot' on #2 PW from 108 that misses the green by a yard and SW on #3 (because you could still putt - I'd consider the first putt a worse shot than the SW, but that's just me). On #5 3h from 195 that leaves a simple pitch and putt for par is smart, single digit golf to me (i.e. classic NASG golf).
    Keep up the great content please Adam.

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Lindsay. Agreed entirely - whenever I make a bogey on stroke holes 1 to about 9, I say to myself, "that was really my target score on this hole." And if I par or birdie one, I feel pumped that I've gained 1+ stroke.

      That's awesome, Joe! Where else have you been? The weather up here in December tends to mirror Washington, so you should expect cold/wet, unfortunately. For public courses, the best course at the time of year (in terms of conditioning & drainage) is probably Morgan Creek in White Rock (th-cam.com/video/nNw-KpGyBwY/w-d-xo.html). Kings Links is ~20 minutes away in Delta (th-cam.com/video/dipCzvxblRA/w-d-xo.html), and it is also a good Winter option. Northview is a tough PGA-calibre course that might be worth checking out, too (th-cam.com/video/zCnwXREiGVk/w-d-xo.html).
      There's also Fraserview (a Vancouver muni) that is a great layout - especially the back 9 - but it can get a little mucky in the Winter (th-cam.com/video/jscZaTiugsg/w-d-xo.html). The same goes for University Golf Course (th-cam.com/video/Qo2PthG6keA/w-d-xo.html) and Burnaby Mountain (th-cam.com/video/fVMhRUGNRbE/w-d-xo.html).

      I'll only play from the tips if the yardages allow me to still reach greens in regulation. In theory, the handicap system accounts for this - your differential after each round is calculated based on the rating from the tees you play. Your differentials (the top 8 of your last 20) are averaged to produce a handicap index. A course handicap is determined for each teebox you play by factoring your index against the rating of the tees you're playing.

    A lot of high handicappers don't go for the low hanging fruit first. They want to hit the ball farther. They really should start with the chipping and putting (and bunker shots if your course has them.)

    I hit at least 1 bad shot per hole. Not unusual to dink it up to the green for a double. Adam, how many times a week do you practice? I know your “tidy under 100” method works, and I’ll work on that this offseason.

      Thanks, John! It might sound crazy but I don't practice. It's a weird mental block - I hate practice almost as much as I love playing. I will putt on a mat from time to time at home, and I'll hit a few balls before teeing off, but for me, playing is my practice.

    I'm going to keep track of bad shots now to see where I'm going wrong. Pretty surprised to see 15+ bad shots and still play to 6.7.

    Adam- good round- i would estimate your hybrid cost you 5-8 shots this round,,,#1 club to practice on

    I think it's honestly a bit unfair to call your PW on 2 a bad shot. According to statistics, that really isn't terrible proximity, and you were just off the green, which you were able to get up and down. From that yardage, you will most often take 3 or more shots and you barely missed the green. All in all, not a bad shot at all!
    Also, really enjoy your videos, thanks!

      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Indeed, calling that one a bad shot might have been a stretch.

    Love your vids my man but I think for some of these you're a bit harsh on yourself, the PGA average for hitting the green from 175-200 yards is 55% (I know the greens are a lot hard to hold but still). So was your approach on the 5th really a "bad," shot, or was it about average? The important bit is not missing in the wrong place and you gave yourself a great chance at getting up and down which you converted.

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair, and admittedly the "bad shot" estimation is a bit subjective. I wouldn't consider any missed green from 175-200 to be "bad" necessarily, but leaving it ~40 short isn't ideal.

    I'm scratch and I hit like 10 bad shots a round plenty of times. The good shots make up for it I guess. But the bad shots are always there for me. My best rounds like 68s 69s I still hit like 3-5 bad shots every round at least

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good stuff. Yeah, breaking par with a handful of bad shots is an interesting stat that I think is helpful for high cappers to see.

    Short game is really good, most "bad" shots for high handicappers end up with penalty strokes which you have hardly any.

  • @TheDjcarter1966

    I think the other big thing is how FAR off the bad shots are...only ONE that was in water or OB or behind a tree or basically unplayable. All your misses are still playable take your medicine and take your boggy type bad shots...I think most double digit handicaps have a few more unplayable type shots and then also add another 5-10 chips/putts. So many times when you are just off the green for us it would be chip, miss putt then made putt.

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good observation, David. Indeed my misses tend to be playable, or at least playable-ish...though not every day :p
