    Dude not last week but the weekend before that I played in a tournament (Netto strokeplay 14 handicapper) so I started off with 2 triple bogeys, after 2 holes I basically gave up already. Then I played 16 holes extremely solid without making more than bogey, shot my lowest back nine ever 39, and ended up winning the tournament. Golf is actually insane sometimes

      I can relate man. Played the club championship 2 weeks ago with a course handicap 24. Started with a triple, lost myself and was +8 after 5 holes. Somehow flipped the switch and stayed in the present, played 1 over par on holes 6-18 and my best ever round (81) to win the tournament.

    Man, those first 3 tee shots!! I feel this so hard :( I've been practicing soooo much, felt so dailed at the range sessions and finally had confidence to go shoot a low round. Been trying to break 80 forever. Played the Falls in Chilliwack and COULD NOT hit the ball whatsoever. Snap hooks, tops all day, blocks. Lost 14 balls and shot a 104 (I'm a 14 handicap -.-) It completely destroyed my confidence that I can even hit a golf ball. How did you get your confidence back while playing? I feel like once it snowballs for me it's over. Any tips greatly appreciated

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, Nick! I think I've just played enough rounds to know that I'm going to lose a lot of strokes at some point during the day. Sometimes they're frontloaded, sometimes they're backloaded, and sometimes they're evenly spread. So I just try to refocus over every shot and always think, "the next shot could be my best of the day" and it's almost never too late for a turnaround. With that said, there are definitely times that my round starts poorly and only gets worse. I feature as many of those rounds on the channel as I can. I don't want to give the impression that I always turn it on :p
      Also, what was the course conditioning at The Falls? I played it once a few years ago and it was an embarrassment. I hope it's improved!

    • @nickholden1921
      @nickholden1921 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NotAScratchGolfer Thx for the reply. I need to keep that mindset in my head when it goes poorly.
      I know the course went bankrupt a few years ago and then the Aquilini group bought it and it was in rough shape due to being closed for a year. The conditions last week were a 7/10 I'd say. Tee boxes were a bit beat up and the greens were decent, but full of ball marks and scars.
      I would say though that the greens were almost impossible with the setup they had. The pins were borderline illegal clown pins, and if I had to guess, they were running at a 12. The combo of undulation, pin placement, and speed made it impossible. I prefer fast greens but it was a joke. That being said, my ball striking was so poor, I was gonna be high 90's regardless of where I played that day :P

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, glad to hear you're making the trip North!
      BC is pretty damn big. Vancouver Island + the city of Vancouver have year round golf. The rest of the province has a much shorter season. I've highlighted some favorites below:
      My favorite public course in BC is probably Sagebrush in Merritt (I've featured it twice on the channel).
      Tobiano (in this video) is about an hour away from Sagebrush and would be worth visiting if you go to Sagebrush.
      The Kelowna/Vernon area also has a ton of great golf, highlighted by Predator Ridge (36 holes) & Tower Ranch; their season also ends soon.
      An hour or so south of Kelowna is Fairview Mountain. It's a great course that not too many people seem to visit for some reason.
      Not too far away in Salmon Arm you'll find Talking Rock that I like as much as any of the courses in Kelowna. Salmon Arm Champions Course is also great.
      On Vancouver Island, Bear Mountain is another fantastic 36-hole resort facility. There are a ton of other great tracks on the island, but I haven't played them.
      In Vancouver, the best conditioned public course is Morgan Creek.
      Right at the Peace Arch border crossing there's a course called The Hills at Portal (formerly called Peace Portal) that's a cool old layout.
      Close to Vancouver (in Surrey) is a 36-hole facility called Northview - the Ridge Course is great and used to host a PGA event.
      In North Vancouver, there is a beautiful private course called Seymour that is open to the public on Mondays.
      Vancouver also has some great public courses/munis, most notably Fraserview & UBC.
      About 30 minutes south of Vancouver (in Richmond) there is a great semi-private course called Mayfair Lakes that's always in good shape.
      Kings Links (not far away, in Delta) is the closest you'll find to true seaside links golf in BC.
      Finally, the two municipal courses in Burnaby (Burnaby Mountain and Riverway) are nice little tracks that are maintained pretty well year round.
      In Whistler, Nicklaus North is a great layout. I haven't played Chateau Whistler, but it's supposed to be pretty albeit a bit gimmicky/target golf.
      En route to Whistler (in Squamish) there's a course called Squamish Valley that's a great, tight, parkland layout.
      Further up the road from Whistler (in Pemberton) is a course called Big Sky that is fantastic.
      If you make it all the way over to the Invermere area, Greywolf is a must-play. Eagle Ranch and Copper Point are also great.

    @AB-nv7bz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its so funny watching someone with same handicap as me, but a completely different game. Your bad and your good rounds seem to be within 5 or so shots, mine are all over the place.
    After seeing how you can play 6500 yard courses with 220 drives, makes me realize how badly i need to work on my putting. I'm just too streaky. I'll make at least one 15-20' a round, but i'll butcher some leading to 3 putts. Also i'll miss easy 5 footers for par (push or pull like i forgot how to putt).
    How much time do you spend practicing putting?

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No real routine these days. When I get to course, I drop a ball ~15 ft. from the edge of the practice green and try to stop a ball as close as possible to where the green meets the fringe. This helps me get my speed down. I focus a lot on green reading (see: th-cam.com/video/3zWXJ4sR3pA/w-d-xo.html). I don't do much work on my stroke and I should. I tend to pull a lot of putts.
