After they start living on earth and the robot overlord AI was overthrown there isn’t much else to work with. Unless you introduce plot devices so different from the first movie the second film would no longer feel like sequel. I’m sure it could be done but the message of global warming and healthy food was enough.
I don't think they will stoop to the level of "Megamind 2". Even if it isn't as good as Wall-e, it is hard to beat "Megamind 2" in terms of general badness. It has a 9% critic rating and 6% audience rating.

i'd love to see a movie based in the same timeline as wall-e, maybe a sequel that's a few decades (centuries maybe?? idk) in the future where people are still kinda fat, but thriving nonetheless. maybe have auto return as a now faulty robot, and he could be the villain in some way and talk about how everything that's happening is "wrong" and against protocol whilst being defective himself so there's some fun hypocrisy
