  • This is a 2-hour bullet chess tournament, Lichess Titled Arena July 2019, I provided commentary on while specifically observing World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen compete. I livestreamed this event at twitch.tv/ChessNetwork. Lichess Titled Arena July 2019 is held for titled chess players only, namely Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters etc... Magnus Carlsen played under the account "DrNykterstein" for this event. Its $1,000 prize pool goes to the top 5 players, with 1st - $500, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125, 4th - $75, and 5th - $50. This tournament was played on July 13th, 2019.
I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. At 1:29:15, when you are talking about the windmill picking up pawns and opponent resigned. It is mate in 2 from what I can see (Nxd4+, Kh2 and then knight hits Nf2# with a big royal forking mate (fork queen and mate same time). It is a really cool mate forced from the bishop move (Be5+), so I just wanted to point that out for others to see as well.
Of course he could play out your "windmill" before the mate, for some extra style points..
Excellent video as always! True entertainment, both hilarious and instructive at the same time. Keep it up, Jerry! :)

Firouzja will probably be in the hunt for the world championship sometime in the next 10 years. A 16-year-old beating Carlsen, even if Carlsen was a bit off, is a huge result for him. The kid had to be going nuts after he won. Good for him.

@Acs1 he's only 16, people usually reach their peaks around 25-30 years old, I think it was a bit premature for Hikaru to just think that this is Firouzja's peak

    Spoiler alert!
After finishing my work I sat relaxed with my phone and found this, I watched for half hour and slept due to tiredness. Near then end approx 15 mins I woke up listening Jerry screaming about alireza and saw he his close to Carlsen. Then the win of alireza over Carlsen got me to stand and I got completely out of sleep and lazyness. And then the finale was awesome. This completely refreshed, what an amazing event.
Because of complete dominance of Carlsen, he sometimes seem unbeatable. For once in a while it is treat to watch the new talents showing up and causing upsets tells us that nothing is impossible.
Congrates to penguin(earlier) and alireza(now) for ur achievement and thanks for giving us this moment.

I am a below 400 at the moment and one thing that confuses and aggravates me is no masters have iterated why pinning knights at the opening is anyhow a good idea. However in my ranking rage(300-500), they always respond to that by chasing the bishop away with their pawns. What advantage does one gain by pinning the knight?

@Chessnetwork Dude, we would very much appreciate more videos on Analysis of classic games or maybe games that are played in recent tournaments. I really enjoy your streams but they aren't as informative as your analytical videos. Cheers!!
